Abstract:A new kind of algorithm to detect edge for infrared image is proposed employing the two-dimension continuous wavelet transforms. Direct calculation of the two-dimension continuous wavelet transform (TDCWT) for an image requires great amount of time and computer resources. FFT and inverse FFT are employed to compute convolution allowed to make such calculations practically possible and to reduce its time considerably. The two-dimension continuous wavelet transform is used to detect edge for infrared image here. Isotropy Mexican hat wavelet is selected as analyzing wavelet, which is able to meet our purpose because little texture information which is sensitive to directions in the infrared image. The Mexican hat wavelet has an excellent selectivity in position. It is quite efficient for a pointwise analysis, in particular the detection of local singularities (contours, corners). A new threshold algorithm is used directly to positive or negative wavelet coefficients in every resolution level at all scales so as to determine primary edge point sets. "Voting" method is proposed to integrate all the edge information at all scales. The new algorithm needn't connect edge points after threshold. Continuous and smooth edge can be obtained. The noise in the image can be suppressed to some extent, too. Experimental results show that the new algorithm can detect the whole contours and detail information in the infrared image well. It is more excellent than a few traditional edge detection operators in performance.

Abstract:An efficient and robust method of solving Laplace inverse transform is proposed based on the wavelet theory. The inverse function is expressed as a wavelet expansion with rapid convergence. Several examples are provided to demonstrate the methodology. As an example of application, the proposed inversion method is applied to the dynamic analysis of a single-degree-of-freedom spring-mass-damper system whose damping is described by a stress-strain relation containing fractional derivatives. Abstract:On the basis of the scaling function transform of the Daubechies wavelet theory, a numerical inversion of the Laplace transform is established in this paper. By means of the qualitative and quantitative analyses on the characteristic of energy spectrum of the scaling functions, the stuitable region of this numerical method of inversion in the image by inversion is given. The results show that this region increases as the resolution level m of the scaling function transform is taken larger. Finally, some typical examples, e.g. , a flutter curve, a complex function with exponential growth, and the initial-boundary problem of vibration of one-dimension string, are performed by the numerical method. By comparing the obtained numerical inverse results and their corresponding exact functions or solutions, it is found that the numerical inversion and its exact function are almost coincident in the suitable region, which shows that the numerical method of inversion of the Laplace transform is efficient and reliable.

Abstract:Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a powerful tool for high-resolution subsurface parameter reconstruction. Due to the existence of local minimum traps, the success of the inversion process usually requires a good initial model. Our study primarily focuses on understanding the impact of source wavelets on the landscape of the corresponding optimization problem. We thus introduce a decomposition scheme that divides the inverse problem into two parts. The first step transforms the measured data into data associated with the desired source wavelet. Here, we consider inversions with known and unknown sources to mimic real scenarios. The second subproblem is the conventional FWI, which is much less dependent on an accurate initial model since the previous step improves the misfit landscape. A regularized deconvolution method and a convolutional neural network are employed to solve the source transformation problem. Numerical experiments on the benchmark models demonstrate that our approach improves the gradient's quality in the subsequent FWI and provides a better inversion performance.

Abstract:Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a useful tool for estimating the properties of subsurface media, but has the disadvantage of incurring considerable computing costs. Therefore, we propose a method for reducing the computing memory requirement in the time domain of FWI that employs a new approach with discrete cosine transform (DCT) and the Nyquist sampling theorem. The proposed method enables accurate reconstruction of a wavefield with several optimal DCT coefficients derived by considering the maximum wavenumber component of the virtual source wavefield and the maximum frequency of the source wavelet. Consequently, virtual source wavefields can be stored in a computers memory instead of on a disk. Our proposed FWI algorithm was compared to existing compression methods that use DCT and wavelet transform (WT) in a numerical example. The results of this comparison demonstrated that our algorithm provides significantly improved computational efficiency.

Abstract:This paper details the development of the weak form formulations of finite element type methods using wavelets as basis functions. Such approaches are different from most wavelets based ones that are derived from the strong form. The advantages of the proposed formulation are that there Is no need to enforce natural boundary conditions and that the lower order derivatives of the wavelet bases are involved in the connection coefficients. Various approaches to deal with essential boundary and interface conditions are investigated, and algorithms to compute the associated connection coefficients are derived. To validate the proposed method, two numerical examples are described.

Abstract:In this article, we propose an efficient numerical algorithm for the inverse Laplace transform using Legendre wavelet operational matrices and discuss its applications to fractional differential equations. Numerical examples are provided to elucidate the efficiency and the simplicity of the proposed approach. Error tables and graphical demonstration show the high precision of the proposed numerical algorithm. This approach is straight forward, rather simple and suitable for MATLAB programming.

Abstract:We suggest new closely related methods for numerical inversion of $Z$-transform and Wiener-Hopf factorization of functions on the unit circle, based on sinh-deformations of the contours of integration, corresponding changes of variables and the simplified trapezoid rule. As applications, we consider evaluation of high moments of probability distributions and construction of causal filters. Programs in Matlab running on a Mac with moderate characteristics achieves the precision E-14 in several dozen of microseconds and E-11 in several milliseconds, respectively.

Abstract:Based on an approximation to Cayley transform, we propose an approximate Cayley transform method and its inexact version for solving inverse eigenvalue problems, which has the advantage over other known methods in the sense that it avoids solving systems in obtaining the approximate eigenvectors. Under the nonsingular condition used in D. Sun and J. Sun [29], we show that the proposed methods converge at least superlinearly. Moreover, numerical experiments are given which illustrate that, comparing with the Cayley transform methods, our methods need much less inner iterations and CPU time.

Abstract:The defects of the classical wavelet transforms are analyzed systemically. In the classical continuous wavelet inverse transform, the integral variables are independent. As the integral variables are dependent,the corresponding numeral integral has high resolution. The fact that the integral variable of the inverse transform appears in the denominator of integrand reduces resolution of the numeral integral and blocks the application of them. So a new type of continuous wavelet transform is proposed. No matter what we discretize integral variables, any numeral integral has a high resolution, and the integral variable does not appear in the denominator of the integrand. In addition, the corresponding numerical method is obtained. Finally, a filter based on the new CWT is present. By dealing with the signals with white noise and outlier, the white noise and outlier in the signals could be completely wiped off and the original signals could be reconstructed without prior distribution of the noise. compared with other traditional wavelet denoising methods, the new CWT can achieve higher signal-to-noise ratio.

Abstract:In this paper, a Newton-type iterative scheme for solving nonlinear systems is designed. In the process of proving the convergence order, we use the higher derivatives of the function and show that the convergence order of this iterative method is six. In order to avoid the influence of the existence of higher derivatives on the proof of convergence, we mainly discuss the convergence of this iterative method under weak conditions. In Banach space, the local convergence of the iterative scheme is established by using the ω-continuity condition of the first-order Fréchet derivative, and the application range of the iterative method is extended. In addition, we also give the radius of a convergence sphere and the uniqueness of its solution. Finally, the superiority of the new iterative method is illustrated by drawing attractive basins and comparing them with the average iterative times of other same-order iterative methods. Additionally, we utilize this iterative method to solve both nonlinear systems and nonlinear matrix sign functions. The applicability of this study is demonstrated by solving practical chemical problems.

Abstract:A novel fast and efficient algorithm was proposed that uses the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) as a tool to compute the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Multiwavelet Transform. The Haar Wavelet Transform and the GHM system are shown to be a special case of the proposed algorithm, where the discrete linear convolution will adapt to achieve the desired approximation and detail coefficients. Assuming that no intermediate coefficients are canceled and no approximations are made, the algorithm will give the exact solution. Hence the proposed algorithm provides an efficient complexity verses accuracy tradeoff. The main advantages of the proposed algorithm is that high band and the low band coefficients can be exploited for several classes of signals resulting in very low computation.

Abstract:This paper develops the use of wavelets as a basis set for the solution of physical problems exhibiting behavior over wide-ranges in length scale. In a simple diagrammatic language, this article reviews both the mathematical underpinnings of wavelet theory and the algorithms behind the fast wavelet transform. This article underscores the fact that traditional wavelet bases are fundamentally ill-suited for physical calculations and shows how to go beyond these limitations by the introduction of the new concept of semicardinality, which leads to the profound, new result that basic physical couplings may be computed {\em without approximatation} from very sparse information, thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional wavelet bases in the treatment of physical problems. The paper then explores the convergence rate of conjugate gradient solution of the Poisson equation in both semicardinal and lifted wavelet bases and shows the first solution of the Kohn-Sham equations using a novel variational principle.

Abstract:We deduce a product formula for the Whittaker $W$ function whose kernel does not depend on the second parameter. Making use of this formula, we define the positivity-preserving convolution operator associated with the index Whittaker transform, which is seen to be a direct generalization of the Kontorovich-Lebedev convolution. The mapping properties of this convolution operator are investigated; in particular, a Banach algebra property is established and then applied to yield an analogue of the Wiener-Lévy theorem for the index Whittaker transform. We show how our results can be used to prove the existence of a unique solution for a class of convolution-type integral equations.
