Abstract:We consider the holographic dark energy model with axial torsion which satisfy the cosmological principle. Subsequently, by using the torsional analogues of Friedmann equations for the new equation from Einstein-Cartan gravity theory, we obtain the equation of state for dark energy in this model. We find that the extended holographic dark energy from the particle horizon as the infrared (IR) cut-off does not give the accelerating expansion of the universe. Also, employing the future event horizon as IR cut-off still achieves the accelerating expansion of the universe. In contrast, there is a possibility that the Hubble radius as IR cut-off achieves to the accelerating expansion of the universe in superluminal region for axial torsion. More precisely, the current value of ratio for torsion to the matter density, $\gamma^{0}=0.5$ gives the equation of state of dark energy $\omega_{\Lambda}\cong-1$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the effects of torsion of space-time in the expansion of the universe as a candidate to dark energy. The analysis is done by reconstructing the torsion function along cosmic evolution by using observational data of Supernovae type Ia and Hubble parameter measurements. We have used a kinematic model for the parameterization of the comoving distance and the Hubble parameter, then the free parameters of the models are constrained by observational data. The reconstruction of the torsion function is obtained directly from the data, using the kinematic parameterizations, and the values for the Hubble parameter and the deceleration parameter are in good agreement to the standard model estimates.

Abstract:Introduction: Investigating rotation curves and the Tully-Fisher ratio within galaxies represents a central theme of extensive research and scientific interest. Despite several theoretical models, a comprehensive explanation of the observed correlation between galaxy types and their rotation curves remains elusive. This study endeavors to bridge this knowledge gap by delving into the discernible connection between the presence of dark matter and galaxy classification. Theoretical background: By meticulously examining the gravitational field's dependency on its source's point symmetry, we introduce a novel theoretical framework that offers a coherent rationale for these empirical findings. Results: Our proposed model explains the appearance of dark matter as a direct consequence of the reduction of point symmetry in gravitational systems. Neither arbitrary systems with a high mass density nor a perfectly spherically symmetric mass distribution give the observable effects of dark matter. Special attention was paid to the axial symmetry scenario as a reasonable approach for modeling the mass distribution in most galaxies. We thoroughly analyzed, showing strong agreement with experimental observations for dwarf, Sb, and Scd galaxies. Conclusion: Thus, our study provides a compelling theoretical foundation for elucidating the intricate interplay between galaxy types, rotation curves, and the presence of dark matter, shedding new light on the dynamics of the cosmos.

Abstract:The latest experimental evidence that dark matter and dark energy together account for at least 95% of the mass of the visible universe shows that their inherent gravitational interaction was the basis of all other forms of energy in it. At the same time, this sheds new light on the essence of the darkest matter as a "forerunner", from which all other forms of the baryonic matter of the Universe were formed. This implies the need to consider the reproduction of the substance of the Universe as a process of buying and losing degrees of freedom different from the original. An equally important addition to the theory of the evolution of the Universe is the derivation of the law of gravitational interaction, independent of Newtonian mechanics, from which follows the dependence of gravitational acceleration on the magnitude and sign of the density gradient of the Universe matter, the existence of “strong” and “weak” gravity, gravitational forces of "attraction" and "repulsion"; "stable" and "labile" gravitational equilibrium, etc. and the redundancy of dark energy as some kind of additional material entity responsible for its accelerated expansion. All these phenomena are considered in the article from the standpoint of energodynamics, which generalizes thermodynamics to non-thermal forms of energy. Such consideration also leads to the conclusion that there are standing and traveling gravitational waves of dark matter, that it has energy equivalent to its mass, and that it plays a role as a source of stellar energy. The data of astronomical observations of recent years are presented, which directly confirm the developed concept.

Abstract:The standard cosmological model is in the midst of a stress test, thanks to the tension between supernova-based measurements of the Hubble constant H 0 and inferences of its values from cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. Numerous explanations for the present-day cosmic acceleration require the presence of a new fundamental scalar field, as do early dark energy solutions to the Hubble tension. This raises the possibility that multiple fields cooperatively contribute to the dark energy component in bursts throughout cosmic time due to distinct initial conditions and couplings. Here, this cascading dark energy scenario is illustrated through a realization that effectively reduces to a two-field model, with two epochs in which dark energy is cosmologically significant. The model is compared to measurements of the CMB and baryon acoustic oscillations, as well as both PANTHEON and SH0ES observations of Type Ia supernovae. Neglecting the linear perturbations, it is found that this scenario ameliorates the Hubble tension, improving over purely late-time models of dark energy and the agreement between the galaxy survey measurements of baryon acoustic oscillations.

Abstract:The nature of dark energy is one of the fundamental problems in cosmology. Introduced to explain the apparent acceleration of the Universe's expansion, its origin remains to be determined. In this paper, we illustrate a result that may significantly impact understanding the relationship between dark energy and structure formation in the late-epoch Universe. Our analysis exploits a scale-dependent energy functional, initially developed for image visualization, to compare the physical and geometrical data that distinct cosmological observers register on their celestial spheres. In the presence of late-epoch gravitational structures, this functional provides a non-perturbative technique that allows the standard Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) observer to evaluate a measurable, scale-dependent difference between the idealized FLRW past light cone and the physical light cone. From the point of view of the FLRW observer, this difference manifests itself as a redshift-dependent correction $\Lambda^{(corr)}(z)$ to the FLRW cosmological constant $\Lambda^{(FLRW)}$. At the scale where cosmological expansion couples with the local virialized dynamics of gravitational structures, we get $\Lambda^{(corr)}(z)\sim 10^{-52}\,m^{-2}$, indicating that the late-epoch structures induce an effective cosmological constant that is of the same order of magnitude as the assumed value of the FLRW cosmological constant, a result that may lead to an interpretative shift in the very role of dark energy.

We show how studying modifications of general relativity can help in assessing the robustness of empirical inferences, particularly in inaccessible regimes. We also discuss challenges to sharply distinguishing apparently distinct directions in theory space.

Abstract:We study the cosmological dynamics of dark energy in a scalar-vector-torsion theory. The vector field is described by the cosmic triad and the scalar field is of the quintessence type with non-minimal coupling to gravity. The coupling to gravity is introduced through the interaction between the scalar field and torsion, where torsion is defined in the context of teleparallel gravity. We derive the full set of field equations for the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker space-time background and obtain the associated autonomous system. We obtain the critical points and their stability conditions, along with the cosmological properties of them. Thus, we show that the thermal history of the universe is successfully reproduced. Furthermore, new scaling solutions in which the scalar and vector field densities scale in the same way as the radiation and matter background fluids have been found. Finally, we also show that there exist new attractor fixed points whose nature is mainly vectorial, and which can explain the current accelerated expansion and therefore the dark energy-domination.

Dark energy based on exotic statistics

Abstract:Dark energy is an elusive concept, which has been introduced two decades ago in order to make the acceleration of the universe a comprehensible phenomenon. However, the nature of this energy is far from being understood, both from a fundamental as well as an observational way. In this work we study cosmological consequences of the existence of particles (which we called ``ewkons'' in a previous work) which are quasi distinguishable, obey unorthodox statistics, and have an equation of state similar to many existent dark energy candidates (including negative relation between pressure and energy density). We find an effective scalar field description of this ewkon fluid, and obtain cosmological solutions for the dark energy dominated epoch. This can be considered as a one-parameter class of dark energy models.

Abstract:In our recently proposed quantum theory of gravity, the universe is made of 'atoms'" of space-time-matter (STM). Planck scale foam is composed of STM atoms with Planck length as their associated Compton wave-length. The quantum dispersion and accompanying spontaneous localization of these STM atoms amounts to a cancellation of the enormous curvature on the Planck length scale. However, an effective dark energy term arises in Einstein equations, of the order required by current observations on cosmological scales. This happens if we propose an extremely light particle having a mass of about 10−33eV/cˆ2 , forty-two orders of magnitude lighter than the proton. The holographic principle suggests there are about 10122 such particles in the observed universe. Their net effect on space-time geometry is equivalent to dark energy, this being a low energy quantum gravitational phenomenon. In this sense, the observed dark energy constitutes evidence for quantum gravity. We then invoke Dirac's large number hypothesis to also propose a dark matter candidate having a mass halfway (on the logarithmic scale) between the proton and the dark energy particle, i.e. about 10−12eV/cˆ2 .

Abstract:It is known that the appearance of microscopic objects with distinct topologies and different Euler characteristics, such as instantons and wormholes, at the spacetime-foam level in Euclidean quantum gravity approaches leads to spacetime topology changes. Such changes, in principle, may affect the field equations that arise through the semiclassical variation procedure of gravitational actions. Although in the case of Einstein-Hilbert action the presence of microscopic wormholes does not lead to any nontrivial result, when the Gauss-Bonnet term is added in the gravitational action, the above effective topological variation procedure induces an effective cosmological constant that depends on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling and the wormhole density. Abstract:Dark energy is the component in the present Universe with the greatest abundance, and it is responsible for the accelerating expansion of the Universe. As a result, dark energy is likely to interact with any compact astrophysical object (Sakti and Sulaksono, 2021). In present paper, we propose a model for a dark energy star made up of dark and ordinary matter in which the density of dark energy is proportional to the density of isotropic perfect fluid matter. In the context of general relativity, the model is derived in the curved Tolman-Kuchowicz spacetime geometry (Tolman, 1939; Kuchowicz, 1968). Here, we look at how dark energy affects stellar mass, compactness, and equilibrium etc. The physical parameters of the model e.g., pressure, density, mass function, surface redshift etc. are investigated, and the stability of stellar configuration is studied in detail. The model has interesting properties because it meets all energy criteria and is free from central singularities. The maximum allowable mass has been obtained from our model with the help of M−R diagram. We analyse many physical properties of the model and checked that it meets all regularity constraints, is stable, and therefore physically realistic.

Abstract:We propose a new gravitational theory with torsion based on Riemann-Cartan geometry, in which all physical quantities are dynamical. Besides the spacetime metric, the gravitational degrees of freedom in this theory include also the torsion and two scalar fields. The energy-momentum tensor of the matter fields in this theory is also proposed. A spherically symmetric static vacuum solution of the theory is obtained. It turns out that this solution can fit the observational data of the rotation curve outside the stellar disk in the Milky Way. Therefore, the galactic dark matter may just be the gravitational effect of the theory with torsion.

Abstract:Since the geometry of our universe seems to depend very little on baryonic matter, we consider a variational principle involving only dark matter and dark energy which in addition make them depend on each other. There are no adjustable parameters or scalar fields with appropriate equations of state. No quintessence. For a pressure-less, 3-flat FRW model, the cosmological ‘constant’ is now a function of time, positive by definition and always small. Its time derivative or rather its associated parameter w is always negative and close to −1. The most interesting point is that the age of the universe and w itself are correlated. Moreover, this rather unsophisticated model provides a very limited range for both these quantities and results are in surprising agreement with observed values. The problem of vacuum energy remains what it was; the problem of coincidence is significantly less annoying.

Abstract:We discuss the possibility of a scalar field being the fundamental description of dark energy. We focus on shift-symmetric scalar-tensor theories since this symmetry potentially avoids some fine-tuning problems. We also restrict attention to theories satisfying that the propagation speed of gravitational waves is equal to the speed of light. These considerations lead us to investigate shift-symmetric Kinetic Gravity Braiding theories. Analysing the stability of scalar linear perturbations, we discuss the conditions that seems to be necessary to describe (super) accelerated cosmic expansion without introducing instabilities. However, it has been previously established that the linearised analysis does not guarantee the stability of this non-canonical scalar theory, as potentially dangerous interactions between dark energy fluctuations and tensor perturbations (essentially gravitational waves) appear at a higher order in perturbation theory. Indeed, although we shall point out that the standard proof of absence of dark energy stable braiding models due to this interaction has a possible way-out, we find general arguments suggesting that there are no dark energy stable solutions that can exploit this loophole. Thus, we discuss future research directions for finding viable fundamental descriptions of dark energy. We also provide a dictionary between the covariant version of the theory and that of the Effective Field Theory approach, explicitly computing the parameters in the latter formalism in terms of the functions appearing in the covariant version, and its derivatives. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time these expressions are explicitly obtained up-to arbitrary order in perturbation theory.

Abstract:The cosmological implications of the Covariant Canonical Gauge Theory of Gravity (CCGG) are investigated. We deduce that, in a metric compatible geometry, the requirement of covariant conservation of matter invokes torsion of space-time. In the Friedman model this leads to a scalar field built from contortion and the metric with the property of dark energy, which transforms the cosmological constant to a time-dependent function. Moreover, the quadratic, scale invariant Riemann-Cartan term in the CCGG Lagrangian endows space-time with kinetic energy, and in the field equations adds a geometrical curvature correction to Einstein gravity. Applying in the Friedman model the standard $\Lambda$CDM parameter set, those equations yield a cosmological field depending just on one additional, dimensionless ``deformation'' parameter of the theory that determines the strength of the quadratic term, viz. the deviation from the Einstein-Hilbert ansatz. Moreover, the apparent curvature of the universe differs from the actual curvature parameter of the metric. The numerical analysis in that parameter space yields three cosmology types: (I) A bounce universe starting off from a finite scale followed by a steady inflation, (II) a singular Big Bang universe undergoing a secondary inflation-deceleration phase, and (III) a solution similar to standard cosmology but with a different temporal profile. The common feature of all scenarios is the graceful exit to the current dark energy era. The value of the deformation parameter can be deduced by comparing theoretical calculations with observations, namely with the SNeIa Hubble diagram and the deceleration parameter. That comparison implies a considerable admixture of scale invariant quadratic gravity to Einstein gravity. This theory also sheds new light on the resolution of the cosmological constant problem and of the Hubble tension.

Abstract:Under the existence of a massless spinor degrees of freedom in a spacetime with internal boundaries, such as black holes, we show that a topological mechanism naturally induces terms in the Einstein-Cartan gravitational action that can be interpreted as GR with dark energy and some dark fluid. This can alleviate the problems of dark energy, and perhaps of dark matter. The dark fluid term remains to be further analysed. The topological information is carried by a harmonic 1-form associated to the first co-holomology group of the spacetime, which induces a spacetime contortion acting on the horizontal bundle.
