Abstract:Within extended coherent states, a recent exact solution to the quantum Rabi model (QRM) [D. Braak, Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 100401 (2011)] can be recovered in an alternative simpler and more physical way, without use of any extra conditions. In the same framework, the two-photon QRM is solved exactly by treating extended squeezed states on an equal footing. Concise transcendental functions responsible for the exact solutions are derived. The isolated Juddian solutions are also analytically obtained in terms of degeneracy. Both the extended coherent states and squeezed states employed here are essentially Fock states in the space of the corresponding Bogoliubov operators, which result in free-particle number operators. The present approach can be summarized concisely in a unified way and easily extended to various spin-boson systems with multiple levels, even multiple modes.

Abstract:The exact stationary solutions of the averaged equations of stochastically and harmonically excitedndegree-of-freedom quasi-linear systems withminternal and/or external resonances are obtained as functions of bothnindependent amplitudes andmcombinations of phase angles. To make the solutions more general, the equivalent stochastic systems of the averaged equations are obtained by using the differential forms and exterior differentiation. By considering the periodic boundary conditions with respect tomcombinations of phase angles, the probability potentials of the exact stationary solutions of the equivalent stochastic systems are expanded into anm-fold harmonic series ofmcombinations of phase angles, and the exact stationary solutions are obtained for the case where the averaged equations belong to the class of stationary potential. To examples are given to illustrate the application of the proposed procedure.

Abstract:The construction of analytic solutions for quasi-exactly solvable systems is an interesting problem. We revisit a class of models for which the odd solutions were largely missed previously in the literature: the anharmonic oscillator, the singular anharmonic oscillator, the generalized quantum isotonic oscillator, non-polynomially deformed oscillator, and the Schrödinger system from the kink stability analysis of $\phi^6$-type field theory. We present a systematic and unified treatment for the odd and even sectors of these models. We find generic closed-form expressions for constraints to the allowed model parameters for quasi-exact solvability, the corresponding energies and wavefunctions. We also make progress in the analysis of solutions to the Bethe ansatz equations in the spaces of model parameters and provide insight into the curves/surfaces of the allowed parameters in the parameter spaces. Most previous analyses in this aspect were on a case-by-case basis and restricted to the first excited states. We present analysis of the solutions (i.e. roots) of the Bethe ansatz equations for higher excited states (up to levels $n$=30 or 50). The shapes of the root distributions change drastically across different regions of model parameters, illustrating phenomena analogous to phase transition in context of integrable models. Furthermore, we also obtain the $sl(2)$ algebraization for the class of models in their respective even and odd sectors in a unified way.

Abstract:The modified Jaynes-Cummings model of a single two-level atom placed in the common domain of two cavities or interacting with two quantized modes is studied by a dynamical algebraic method. With the help of an SU(2) algebraic structure, we then obtain the eigenvalues, eigenstates, time evolution operator and atomic inversion operator for the system. We proceed to investigate the modified Jaynes-Cummings model governed by the Milburn equation and present the exact solution of the Milburn equation.

Abstract:We study the soliton model in the anharmonic interaction approximation for protons in hydrogen-bonded systems, and obtain analytical solutions of kink-antikink solitons. As compared with the harmonic interaction approximation, when the anharmonic counterpart is concluded, the symmetry of kink-antikink bonding solitons is broken, whereas the ionic solitons are almost unaffected.

Abstract:Quasi-Exactly Solvable Schrödinger Equations occupy an intermediate place between exactly-solvable (e.g. the harmonic oscillator and Coulomb problems etc) and non-solvable ones. Their major property is an explicit knowledge of several eigenstates while the remaining ones are unknown. Many of these problems are of the anharmonic oscillator type with a special type of anharmonicity. The Hamiltonians of quasi-exactly-solvable problems are characterized by the existence of a hidden algebraic structure but do not have any hidden symmetry properties. In particular, all known one-dimensional (quasi)-exactly-solvable problems possess a hidden $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\bf{R})-$ Lie algebra. They are equivalent to the $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\bf{R})$ Euler-Arnold quantum top in a constant magnetic field. Quasi-Exactly Solvable problems are highly non-trivial, they shed light on delicate analytic properties of the Schrödinger Equations in coupling constant. The Lie-algebraic formalism allows us to make a link between the Schrödinger Equations and finite-difference equations on uniform and/or exponential lattices, it implies that the spectra is preserved. This link takes the form of quantum canonical transformation. The corresponding isospectral spectral problems for finite-difference operators are described. The underlying Fock space formalism giving rise to this correspondence is uncovered. For a quite general class of perturbations of unperturbed problems with the hidden Lie algebra property we can construct an algebraic perturbation theory, where the wavefunction corrections are of polynomial nature, thus, can be found by algebraic means.

Abstract:It is proved that quasi-exactly soluble potentials (QESPs) corresponding to an oscillator with harmonic, quartic and sextic terms, for which the $n+1$ lowest levels of a given parity can be determined exactly, may be approximated by WKB equivalent potentials corresponding to deformed anharmonic oscillators of SU$_q$(1,1) symmetry, which have been used for the description of vibrational spectra of diatomic molecules. This connection allows for the immediate approximate determination of all levels of the QESPs.

Abstract:The symmetrical quasi-classical (SQC) method recently proposed by Miller and Cotton allows one to simulate nonadiabatic dynamics based on an algorithm with classical-like scaling with respect to system size. This is made possible by casting the electronic degrees of freedom in terms of mapping variables that can be propagated in a classical-like manner. While SQC was shown to be rather accurate when applied to benchmark models with harmonic electronic potential energy surfaces, it was also found to become inaccurate and to suffer numerical instabilities when applied to anharmonic systems. In this paper, we propose an extended SQC (E-SQC) methodology for overcoming those discrepancies by describing the anharmonic nuclear modes, which are coupled to the electronic degrees of freedom, in terms of classical-like mapping variables. The accuracy of E-SQC relative to standard SQC is demonstrated on benchmark models with quartic and Morse potential energy surfaces.

Abstract:Model quantum Hall states including Laughlin, Moore-Read, and Read-Rezayi states are generalized into appropriate anisotropic form. The generalized states are exact zero-energy eigenstates of corresponding anisotropic two- or multibody Hamiltonians, and explicitly illustrate the existence of geometric degree of freedom in the fractional quantum Hall effect. These generalized model quantum Hall states can provide a good description of the quantum Hall system with anisotropic interactions. Some numeric results of these anisotropic quantum Hall states are also presented.

Abstract:We construct one soliton solutions for the nonlinear Schroedinger equation with variable quadratic Hamiltonians in a unified form by taking advantage of a complete (super) integrability of generalized harmonic oscillators. The soliton wave evolution in external fields with variable quadratic potentials is totally determined by the linear problem, like motion of a classical particle with acceleration, and the (self-similar) soliton shape is due to a subtle balance between the linear Hamiltonian (dispersion and potential) and nonlinearity in the Schroedinger equation by the standards of soliton theory. Most linear (hypergeometric, Bessel) and a few nonlinear (Jacobian elliptic, second Painleve transcendental) classical special functions of mathematical physics are linked together through these solutions, thus providing a variety of nonlinear integrable cases. Examples include bright and dark solitons, and Jacobi elliptic and second Painleve transcendental solutions for several variable Hamiltonians that are important for current research in nonlinear optics and Bose-Einstein condensation. The Feshbach resonance matter wave soliton management is briefly discussed from this new perspective.
Quasi-exactly solvable potentials in Wigner-Dunkl quantum mechanics

Abstract:It is shown that the Dunkl harmonic oscillator on the line can be generalized to a quasi-exactly solvable one, which is an anharmonic oscillator with $n+1$ known eigenstates for any $n\in \N$. It is also proved that the Hamiltonian of the latter can also be rewritten in a simpler way in terms of an extended Dunkl derivative. Furthermore, the Dunkl isotropic oscillator and Dunkl Coulomb potentials in the plane are generalized to quasi-exactly solvable ones. In the former case, potentials with $n+1$ known eigenstates are obtained, whereas, in the latter, sets of $n+1$ potentials associated with a given energy are derived.

Abstract:A correspondence between the sextic anharmonic oscillator and a pair of third-order ordinary differential equations is used to investigate the phenomenon of quasi-exact solvability for eigenvalue problems involving differential operators with order greater than two. In particular, links with Bender-Dunne polynomials and resonances between independent solutions are observed for certain second-order cases, and extended to the higher-order problems.

Abstract:As basic quantum mechanical models, anharmonic oscillators are recently revisited by bootstrap methods. An effective approach is to make use of the positivity constraints in Hermitian theories. There exists an alternative avenue based on the null state condition, which applies to both Hermitian and non-Hermitian theories. In this work, we carry out an analytic bootstrap study of the quartic oscillator based on the small coupling expansion. In the Hamiltonian formalism, we obtain the anharmonic generalization of Dirac's ladder operators. Furthermore, the Schrodinger equation can be interpreted as a null state condition generated by an anharmonic ladder operator. This provides an explicit example in which dynamics is incorporated into the principle of nullness. In the Lagrangian formalism, we show that the existence of null states can effectively eliminate the indeterminacy of the Dyson-Schwinger equations and systematically determine $n$-point Green's functions.

Abstract:The nonlinear Schrödinger equation with harmonic potential (NLSE) plays an important role in quantum mechanics, so the exact solutions of this equation is studied in this paper. The NLSE is transformed into the classical nonlinear Schrödinger equation by a new class of traveling wave transformation. Next, the problem of exact solutions is changed into the solutions of ordinary differential equation (ODE) by the method of undetermined function. Then, through low-order sub-ODE method and hyperbolic function method, we get two class of solutions of the ODEs. Finally, a series of new exact solutions of the NLSE are obtained. Meanwhile the related numerical simulations are presented.
Algebraic discrete quantum harmonic oscillator with dynamic resolution scaling

Abstract:We develop an algebraic formulation for the discrete quantum harmonic oscillator (DQHO) with a finite, equally-spaced energy spectrum and energy eigenfunctions defined on a discrete domain, which is known as the su(2) or Kravchuk oscillator. Unlike previous approaches, ours does not depend on the discretization of the Schrödinger equation and recurrence relations of special functions. This algebraic formulation is endowed with a natural su(2) algebra, each finite dimensional irreducible representation of which defines a distinct DQHO labeled by its resolution. In addition to energy ladder operators, the formulation allows for resolution ladder operators connecting all DQHOs with different resolutions. The resolution ladder operators thus enable the dynamic scaling of the resolution of finite degree-of-freedom quantum simulations. Using the algebraic DQHO formalism, we are able to rigorously derive the energy eigenstate wave functions of the QHO in a purely algebraic manner without using differential equations or differential operators, which is impossible in the continuous or infinite discrete setting. The coherent state of the DQHO is constructed, and its expected position is proven to oscillate as a classical harmonic oscillator. The DQHO coherent state recovers that of the quantum harmonic oscillator at large resolution. The algebraic formulation also predicts the existence of an inverse DQHO that has no known continuous counterpart.

Abstract:Knowledge of lattice anharmonicity is essential to elucidate distinctive thermal properties in crystalline solids. Yet, accurate \textit{ab initio} investigations of lattice anharmonicity encounter difficulties owing to the cumbersome computations. Here we introduce the phonon quasiparticle approach and review its application to various materials. This method efficiently and reliably addresses lattice anharmonicity by combining \textit{ab initio} molecular dynamics and lattice dynamics calculations. Thus, in principle, it accounts for full anharmonic effects and overcomes finite-size effects typical of \textit{ab initio} molecular dynamics. The validity and effectiveness of the current approach are demonstrated in the computation of thermodynamic and heat transport properties of weakly and strongly anharmonic systems.

Abstract:In this work, we describe certain pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the harmonic and isotonic oscillators, both of which are exactly-solvable models in quantum mechanics. By coupling the dynamics of a particle moving in a one-dimensional potential to an imaginary-valued gauge field, it is possible to obtain certain pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the original (Hermitian) problem. In particular, it is pointed out that the Swanson oscillator arises as such an extension of the quantum harmonic oscillator. For the pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the harmonic and isotonic oscillators, we explicitly solve for the wavefunctions in the position representation and also explore their intertwining relations.
