Abstract:This note concerns a search for publications in which one can find statements that explain the concept of an operating system, reasons for introducing operating systems, a formalization of the concept of an operating system or theory about operating systems based on such a formalization. It reports on the way in which the search has been carried out and the outcome of the search. The outcome includes not only what the search was meant for, but also some added bonuses.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?

This paper aims to solve the following problems:

The author hopes to find publications through literature retrieval that can explain the concept of operating systems, the reasons for introducing operating systems, the formal representation of the operating system concept, or the operating system theory based on this formalization. Through these literature retrievals, the author hopes to understand whether there is currently a more appropriate formal model to describe operating systems and whether there is theoretical research on operating systems. The paper also reports the methods and results in the retrieval process, including some interesting facts discovered unexpectedly.
