Abstract:I report the recent advances in applying (graded) Hopf algebras with braided tensor product in two scenarios: i) paraparticles beyond bosons and fermions living in any space dimensions and transforming under the permutation group; ii) physical models of anyons living in two space-dimensions and transforming under the braid group. In the first scenario simple toy models based on the so-called $2$-bit parastatistics show that, in the multiparticle sector, certain observables can discriminate paraparticles from ordinary bosons/fermions (thus, providing a counterexample to the widespread belief of the "conventionality of parastatistics" argument). In the second scenario the notion of (braided) Majorana qubit is introduced as the simplest building block to implement the Kitaev's proposal of a topological quantum computer which protects from decoherence.

Abstract:We further develop an approach to identify the braiding statistics associated to a given fractional quantum Hall state through adiabatic transport of quasiparticles. This approach is based on the notion of adiabatic continuity between quantum Hall states on the torus and simple product states—or patterns—in the thin torus limit, together with a suitable coherent state ansatz for localized quasiholes that respects the modular invariance of the torus. We give a refined and unified account of the application of this method to the Laughlin and Moore-Read states, which may serve as a pedagogical introduction to the nuts and bolts of this technique. Our main result is that the approach is also applicable—without further assumptions—to more complicated non-Abelian states. We demonstrate this in great detail for the level k=3 Read-Rezayi state at filling factor ν=3/2. These results may serve as an independent check of other techniques, where the statistics are inferred from conformal block monodromies. Our approach has the benefit of giving rise to intuitive pictures representing the transformation of topological sectors during braiding, and allows for a self-consistent derivation of non-Abelian statistics without heavy mathematical machinery.

Non-Abelian Three-Loop Braiding Statistics for 3D Fermionic Topological Phases

Abstract:Fractional statistics is one of the most intriguing features of topological phases in 2D. In particular, the so-called non-Abelian statistics plays a crucial role towards realizing universal topological quantum computation. Recently, the study of topological phases has been extended to 3D and it has been proposed that loop-like extensive objects can also carry fractional statistics. In this work, we systematically study the so-called three-loop braiding statistics for loop-like excitations for 3D fermionic topological phases. Most surprisingly, we discovered new types of non-Abelian three-loop braiding statistics that can only be realized in fermionic systems (or equivalently bosonic systems with fermionic particles). The simplest example of such non-Abelian braiding statistics can be realized in interacting fermionic systems with a gauge group $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_8$ or $\mathbb{Z}_4 \times \mathbb{Z}_4$, and the physical origin of non-Abelian statistics can be viewed as attaching an open Majorana chain onto a pair of linked loops, which will naturally reduce to the well known Ising non-Abelian statistics via the standard dimension reduction scheme. Moreover, due to the correspondence between gauge theories with fermionic particles and classifying fermionic symmetry-protected topological (FSPT) phases with unitary symmetries, our study also give rise to an alternative way to classify FSPT phases with unitary symmetries. We further compare the classification results for FSPT phases with arbitrary Abelian total symmetry $G^f$ and find systematical agreement with previous studies using other methods. We believe that the proposed framework of understanding three-loop braiding statistics (including both Abelian and non-Abelian cases) in interacting fermion systems applies for generic fermonic topological phases in 3D.

Volichenko-type metasymmetry of braided Majorana qubits

Abstract:This paper presents different mathematical structures connected with the parastatistics of braided Majorana qubits and clarifies their role; in particular, mixed-bracket Heisenberg-Lie algebras are introduced. These algebras belong to a more general framework than the Volichenko algebras defined in 1990 by Leites-Serganova as metasymmetries which do not respect even/odd gradings and lead to mixed brackets interpolating ordinary commutators and anticommutators. In a previous paper braided $Z_2$-graded Majorana qubits were first-quantized within a graded Hopf algebra framework endowed with a braided tensor product. The resulting system admits truncations at roots of unity and realizes, for a given integer $s=2,3,4,\ldots$, an interpolation between ordinary Majorana fermions (recovered at $s=2$) and bosons (recovered in the $s\rightarrow \infty$ limit); it implements a parastatistics where at most $s-1$ indistinguishable particles are accommodated in a multi-particle sector. The structures discussed in this work are: - the quantum group interpretation of the roots of unity truncations recovered from reps of the quantum superalgebra ${\cal U}_q({osp}(1|2))$; - the reconstruction, via suitable intertwining operators, of the braided tensor products as ordinary tensor products; - the introduction of mixed brackets for the braided creation/annihilation operators which define generalized Heisenberg-Lie algebras; - the $s\rightarrow \infty$ untruncated limit of the mixed-bracket Heisenberg-Lie algebras producing parafermionic oscillators; - (meta)symmetries of ordinary differential equations given by matrix Schrödinger equations in $0+1$ dimension induced by the braided creation/annihilation operators; - in the special case of a third root of unity truncation, a nonminimal realization of the intertwining operators defines the system as a ternary algebra.

Abstract:The classical de Finetti theorem in probability theory relates symmetry under the permutation group with the independence of random variables. This result has application in quantum information. Here we study states that are invariant with respect to a natural action of the braid group, and we emphasize the pictorial formulation and interpretation of our results. We prove a new type of de Finetti theorem for the four-string, double-braid group acting on the parafermion algebra to braid qudits, a natural symmetry in the quon language for quantum information. We prove that a braid-invariant state is extremal if and only if it is a product state. Furthermore, we provide an explicit characterization of braid-invariant states on the parafermion algebra, including finding a distinction that depends on whether the order of the parafermion algebra is square free. We characterize the extremal nature of product states (an inverse de Finetti theorem).

Abstract:This paper presents the parastatistics of braided Majorana fermions obtained in the framework of a graded Hopf algebra endowed with a braided tensor product. The braiding property is encoded in a $t$-dependent $4\times 4$ braiding matrix $B_t$ related to the Alexander-Conway polynomial. The nonvanishing complex parameter t defines the braided parastatistics. At $t = 1$ ordinary fermions are recovered. The values of $t$ at roots of unity are organized into levels which specify the maximal number of braided Majorana fermions in a multiparticle sector. Generic values of $t$ and the $t =-1$ root of unity mimick the behaviour of ordinary bosons.

Deformed quantum vertex algebra modules associated with braidings

Abstract:We introduce the notion of deformed quantum vertex algebra module associated with a braiding map. We construct two families of braiding maps over the Etingof-Kazhdan quantum vertex algebras associated with the rational $R$-matrices of classical types. We investigate their properties and demonstrate the applications of the corresponding deformed modules to the (generalized) Yangians and reflection algebras.

Abstract:We present a generalized version of a quantum oscillator described by means of a ternary Heisenberg algebra. The model leads to a sixth-order Hamiltonian whose energy levels can be discretized using the Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization procedure. We note the similarity with the -extended version of Dirac's equation applied to quark color dynamics, which also leads to sixth-order field equations. The paper also contains a comprehensive guide to -graded structures, including ternary algebras, which form a mathematical basis for the proposed generalization. The symmetry properties of the model are also discussed.

Reconstructing Classical Algebras via Ternary Operations

Abstract:Although algebraic structures are frequently analyzed using unary and binary operations, they can also be effectively defined and unified through ternary operations. In this context, we introduce structures that contain two constants and a ternary operation. We demonstrate that these structures are isomorphic to various significant algebraic systems, including Boolean algebras, de Morgan algebras, MV-algebras, and (near) rings of characteristic two. Our work highlights the versatility of ternary operations in describing and connecting diverse algebraic structures.

Abstract:Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) pertinent to some emergent low energy phenomena of condensed matter lattice models in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions are explored. Many of our TQFTs are highly-interacting without free quadratic analogs. Some of our bosonic TQFTs can be regarded as the continuum field theory formulation of Dijkgraaf-Witten twisted discrete gauge theories. Other bosonic TQFTs beyond the Dijkgraaf-Witten description and all fermionic TQFTs (namely the spin TQFTs) are either higher-form gauge theories where particles must have strings attached, or fermionic discrete gauge theories obtained by gauging the fermionic Symmetry-Protected Topological states (SPTs). We analytically calculate both the Abelian and non-Abelian braiding statistics data of anyonic particle and string excitations in these theories, where the statistics data can one-to-one characterize the underlying topological orders of TQFTs. Namely, we derive path integral expectation values of links formed by line and surface operators in these TQFTs. The acquired link invariants include not only the familiar Aharonov-Bohm linking number, but also Milnor triple linking number in 3 dimensions, triple and quadruple linking numbers of surfaces, and intersection number of surfaces in 4 dimensions. We also construct new spin TQFTs with the corresponding knot/link invariants of Arf(-Brown-Kervaire), Sato-Levine and others. We propose a new relation between the fermionic SPT partition function and the Rokhlin invariant. As an example, we can use these invariants and other physical observables, including ground state degeneracy, reduced modular S-xY and T-xY matrices, and the partition function on RP3 manifold, to identify all v is an element of Z(8) classes of 2+1 dimensional gauged Z(2)-Ising-symmetric Z(2)(f)-fermionic Topological Superconductors (realized by stacking v layers of a pair of chiral and anti-chiral p-wave superconductors [p+ip and p-ip], where boundary supports non-chiral Majorana-Weyl modes) with continuum spin-TQFTs. Abstract:We establish the spin-statistics theorem for topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) in the framework of Atiyah. We incorporate spin via spin structures on bordisms, and represent statistics using super vector spaces. Unitarity is implemented using dagger categories, in a manner that is equivalent to the approach of Freed–Hopkins, who employed -equivariant functors to address reflection-positivity. A key contribution of our work is the introduction of the notion of fermionically dagger compact categories, which extends the well-established concept of dagger compact categories. We show that both the spin bordism category and the category of super Hilbert spaces are examples of fermionically dagger compact categories. The spin-statistics theorem for TQFTs emerges as a specific case of a more general result concerning symmetric monoidal dagger functors between fermionically dagger compact categories.

Abstract:We prove that the quotients of the group algebra of the braid group introduced by L. Funar in Comm. Math. Phys., 1995, collapses in characteristic distinct from 2. In characteristic 2 we define several quotients of it, which are connected to the classical Hecke and Birman-Wenzl-Murakami quotients, but which admit in addition a symmetry of order 3. We also establish conditions on the possible Markov traces factorizing through it.

Abstract:In this paper, we define and study quasi-biserial algebras, special quasi-biserial algebras and relate them to a class of algebras introduced recently by Li and Liu, the so called symmetric fractional Brauer graph algebras. These algebras naturally generalize biserial and special biserial algebras to algebras of wild representation type, in a different direction of multiserial and special multiserial algebras. We show that all special quasi-biserial algebras are quasi-biserial, all special quasi-biserial algebras are quotients of symmetric special quasi-biserial algebras and all symmetric special quasi-biserial algebras are symmetric fractional Brauer graph algebras. Moreover, we show that the symmetric fractional Brauer graph algebras of finite representation type are symmetric fractional Brauer tree algebras and the symmetric fractional Brauer graph algebras are derived equivalent under Kauer moves.

Inequivalent $Z_2^n$-graded brackets, $n$-bit parastatistics and statistical transmutations of supersymmetric quantum mechanics

Abstract:Given an associative ring of $Z_2^n$-graded operators, the number of inequivalent brackets of Lie-type which are compatible with the grading and satisfy graded Jacobi identities is $b_n= n+\lfloor n/2\rfloor+1$. This follows from the Rittenberg-Wyler and Scheunert analysis of "color" Lie (super)algebras which is revisited here in terms of Boolean logic gates. The inequivalent brackets, recovered from $Z_2^n\times Z_2^n\rightarrow Z_2$ mappings, are defined by consistent sets of commutators/anticommutators describing particles accommodated into an $n$-bit parastatistics (ordinary bosons/fermions correspond to $1$ bit). Depending on the given graded Lie (super)algebra, its graded sectors can fall into different classes of equivalence expressing different types of (para)bosons and/or (para)fermions. As a first application we construct $Z_2^2$ and $ Z_2^3$-graded quantum Hamiltonians which respectively admit $b_2=4$ and $b_3=5$ inequivalent multiparticle quantizations (the inequivalent parastatistics are discriminated by measuring the eigenvalues of certain observables in some given states). As a main physical application we prove that the $N$-extended, $1D$ supersymmetric and superconformal quantum mechanics, for $N=1,2,4,8$, are respectively described by $s_{N}=2,6,10,14 $ alternative formulations based on the inequivalent graded Lie (super)algebras. These numbers correspond to all possible "statistical transmutations" of a given set of supercharges which, for ${N}=1,2,4,8$, are accommodated into a $Z_2^n$-grading with $n=1,2,3,4$ (the identification is $N= 2^{n-1}$). In the simplest ${N}=2$ setting (the $2$-particle sector of the de DFF deformed oscillator with $sl(2|1)$ spectrum-generating superalgebra), the $Z_2^2$-graded parastatistics imply a degeneration of the energy levels which cannot be reproduced by ordinary bosons/fermions statistics.

Abstract:Let $A=\mathcal{A}(E,\sigma)$ be a $3$-dimensional quantum polynomial algebra where $E$ is $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ or a cubic divisor in $\mathbb{P}^{2}$, and $\sigma\in \mathrm{Aut}_{k}E$. Artin-Tate-Van den Bergh proved that $A$ is finite over its center if and only if the order $|\sigma|$ of $\sigma$ is finite. As a categorical analogy of their result, the author and Mori showed that the following conditions are equivalent; (1) $|\nu^{\ast}\sigma^{3}|<\infty$, where $\nu$ is the Nakayama automorphism of $A$. (2) The norm $\|\sigma\|$ of $\sigma$ is finite. (3) The quantum projective plane $\mathsf{Proj}_{\rm nc}A$ is finite over its center. In this paper, we will prove for Type S' algebra $A$ that the following conditions are equivalent; (1) $\mathsf{Proj}_{\rm nc}A$ is finite over its center. (2) The Beilinson algebra $\nabla A$ of $A$ is $2$-representation tame. (3) The isomorphism classes of simple $2$-regular modules over $\nabla A$ are parametrized by $\mathbb{P}^{2}$.

Abstract:In this paper we study associative algebras with a Poisson algebra structure on the center acting by derivations on the rest of the algebra. These structures, which we call Poisson fibred algebras, appear in the study of quantum groups at roots of 1 and related algebras, as well as in the representation theory of affine Lie algebras at the critical level. Poisson fibred algebras lead to a generalization of Poisson geometry, which we develop in the paper. We also take up the general study of noncommutative spaces which are close to enough commutative ones so that they contain enough points to have interesting commutative geometry. One of the most striking uses of our noncommutative spaces is the quantum Borel-Weil-Bott Theorem for quantum sl_q (2) at a root of unity, which comes as a calculation of the cohomology of actual sheaves on actual topological spaces.

Abstract:We prove the existence of a universal braided compact quantum group acting on a graph $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra in the category of $\mathbb{T}$-$\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras with a twisted monoidal structure, in the spirit of the seminal work of S. Wang. To achieve this, we construct a braided analogue of the free unitary quantum group and study its bosonization. As a concrete example, we compute this universal braided compact quantum group for the Cuntz algebra.
