Abstract:Nonlinear transport is a unique functionality of noncentrosymmetric systems, which reflects profound physics, such as spin-orbit interaction, superconductivity and band geometry. However, it remains highly challenging to enhance the nonreciprocal transport for promising rectification devices. Here, we observe a light-induced giant enhancement of nonreciprocal transport at the superconducting and epitaxial CaZrO 3 /KTaO 3 (111) interfaces. The nonreciprocal transport coefficient undergoes a giant increase with three orders of magnitude up to 10 5 A −1 T −1 . Furthermore, a strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling effective field of 14.7 T is achieved with abundant high-mobility photocarriers under ultraviolet illumination, which accounts for the giant enhancement of nonreciprocal transport coefficient. Our first-principles calculations further disclose the stronger Rashba spin-orbit coupling strength and the longer relaxation time in the photocarrier excitation process, bridging the light-property quantitative relationship. Our work provides an alternative pathway to boost nonreciprocal transport in noncentrosymmetric systems and facilitates the promising applications in opto-rectification devices and spin-orbitronic devices.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve This paper aims to address the issue of significantly enhancing nonreciprocal transport through light irradiation. Specifically, the researchers observed that at the interface of superconducting and epitaxially grown CaZrO₃/KTaO₃(111), light irradiation can significantly enhance the nonreciprocal transport coefficient, increasing it by 3 orders of magnitude to 10⁵ A⁻¹T⁻¹. Additionally, light irradiation generated a strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling effective field (14.7 T) and excited a large number of high-mobility photocarriers. These findings provide new avenues for achieving efficient two-terminal rectifier devices and spin-orbit electronic devices. ### Main Content Overview 1. **Background Introduction**: - Nonlinear transport is a unique function in non-centrosymmetric systems, reflecting profound physical phenomena such as spin-orbit interaction, superconductivity, and band geometry. - However, enhancing nonreciprocal transport to achieve efficient rectifier devices remains a significant challenge. 2. **Experimental Methods**: - The researchers prepared CaZrO₃/KTaO₃(111) heterojunction thin films using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technology. - The effect of light on nonreciprocal transport was studied by applying light irradiation of different wavelengths. 3. **Experimental Results**: - Under 330 nm wavelength ultraviolet light irradiation, the nonreciprocal transport coefficient (γ) increased by 3 orders of magnitude, reaching 10⁵ A⁻¹T⁻¹. - Light irradiation also led to a strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling effective field (14.7 T) and the generation of a large number of high-mobility photocarriers. - First-principles calculations further revealed stronger Rashba spin-orbit coupling strength and longer relaxation time during the photocarrier excitation process. 4. **Theoretical Analysis**: - Through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the researchers explained the mechanism of light-induced enhancement of nonreciprocal transport. - The calculation results showed that light irradiation caused changes in the band structure, thereby enhancing the Rashba spin-orbit coupling strength and the relaxation time of photocarriers. 5. **Application Prospects**: - These findings provide new ways to enhance nonreciprocal transport in non-centrosymmetric systems, contributing to the development of the next generation of two-terminal rectifier devices and spin-orbit electronic devices. ### Conclusion Through experimental and theoretical analysis, this paper demonstrates that light irradiation can significantly enhance the nonreciprocal transport coefficient, providing new ideas and technical means for achieving efficient rectifier devices and spin-orbit electronic devices.
