Abstract:A new method for the fabrication of monodispersed Cu nanoparticles on electrode surface was explored, and a novel electrochemical sensor for the sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was constructed by assembling copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) on the precursor film poly-p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (poly-ABSA) electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The assembly process consisted of two steps: the ion-exchange and coordination of Cu2+ with the sulfonic groups contained in poly-ABSA film, and the subsequent in-situ reduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu-NPs by electrochemical method. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that Cu-NPs were highly monodispersed in whole poly-ABSA, which was strongly attached to the electrode surface. The modified electrode Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE was also characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 with high stability. Amperometry was used for the determination of H2O2 at a more positive potential of -0.2 V versus Ag/AgCl in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution, with a linear range from 0.2 mu M to 2.32 mM and a detection limit of 0.1 mu M. The Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE allowed sensitive, stable and fast amperometric sensing of H2O2, and this was promising for the development of nonenzymatic sensors. The analysis of medical disinfection solution real samples was performed using the proposed method, and the obtained results were satisfactory. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles modified Ti3C2 MXene with in-situ formed TiO2-X for detection of hydrogen peroxide

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is frequently used in various chemical reactions, the food industry, environmental protection, and the medical and biological fields. Cost-effective, simple, and quick detection technologies with great sensitivity are highly desired. The emerging two-dimensional MXene is favorable in the sensing field due to its outstanding conductivity, stability, and large surface area. Moreover, the in-situ generated TiO2-X on Ti3C2 MXene has been proven an excellent biosensor material due to its biocompatibility. Herein, we decorated Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles onto Ti3C2 MXene with in-situ generated TiO2-X nanoparticles, forming heterojunction through a simple one-step hydrothermal process. The Cu/Cu2O/TiO2-X/Ti3C2 (Cu/Cu2O/TT) exhibits good electrochemical sensing capability toward H2O2, with a linear range up to 28.328 mM, a sensitivity of 312 μA mM−1 cm−2, and a detection limit (LOD) of 0.42 μΜ. The synergistic interactions between Cu/Cu2O nanoparticles and TiO2-X/Ti3C2 heterojunction not only improved electron transfer and electrocatalytic activity, but also facilitated the mobility of targeting molecules on the catalyst due to the abundance of exposed catalytic sites. Therefore, compared to TiO2-X/Ti3C2, Cu/Cu2O/TT has a lower LOD, faster reaction, and five times the sensitivity. Additionally, the outstanding photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing performance is demonstrated of Cu/Cu2O/TT for H2O2 detection, displaying a low LOD, long-term stability, repeatability, and selectivity. This report may expand the application of MXene-based materials as electrochemical sensors.

Electrochemical sensor for detection of hydrazine based on Au@Pd core-shell nanoparticles supported on amino-functionalized TiO2 nanotubes

Abstract:In this paper, we reported a simple strategy for synthesizing well-defined TiO2NTs-Au@Pd hybrid nanostructures with prior TiO2 nanotube functionalization (F-TiO2NTs). TiO2NTs with larger surface area (BET surface area is 184.9m(2)g(-1)) were synthesized by hydrothermal method, and the NTs are anatase phase with a range of 2-3μm in length and 30-50nm in diameter after calcined at 400°C for 3h. 3-Aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane (APTMS) as a coupling agent was reacted with the surface hydroxyl groups as anchoring sites for flower-shaped bimetallic Au@Pd nanostructures, self-assembling amine functionality on the surface of TiO2NTs. Note that two faces at the interface between F-TiO2NTs with (004) plane and Au@Pd nanostructures with (111) one of cubic Au and Pd nanoparticles are compatible, benefiting to the charge transfer between two components due to their crystalline coordination. The results showed that as-prepared F-TiO2NTs-Au@Pd hybrid nanostructures modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) exhibits high electrocatalytic activity toward hydrazine (N2H4) at low potential and a linear response from 0.06 to 700μM with the detection limit for N2H4 was found to be 1.2×10(-8)M (S/N=3). Based on scan rate effect during the hydrazine oxidation, it indicates that the number of electrons transferred in the rate-limiting step is 1, and a transfer coefficient (α) is estimated as 0.73. The self-assembled F-TiO2NTs-Au@Pd hybrid nanostructures as enhanced materials present excellent electrocatalytic activity, fast response, highly sensitive and have a promising application potential in nonenzymatic sensing.

Abstract:Main observation and conclusion Cu-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are regarded as promising sensing materials, which have abundant metal sites, large surface area and simple synthesis processes. In this work, a novel three-dimensional flower-like Cu-MOF was synthesized, which was combined with ultra-thin MXene nanosheets to construct a novel electrochemical sensor for H2O2. During the electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2, the catalytic activity of Cu-MOF/MXene/GCE results in the ultra-sensitive detection of H2O2 owing to the structure properties of MOFs, the nature of Cu-contained nanomaterials as well as the high electrical conductivity of MXene. The Cu-MOF/MXene/GCE showed a wide linear range from 1 mu mol/L to 6.12 mmol/L using chronoamperometry at the detection potential of -0.35 V, and the detection limit is estimated to be 0.35 mu mol/L. The sensor also shows good anti-interference due to the lower detection potential, specific catalysis of Cu-MOF to H2O2, which promises the sensor good selectivity in complexed samples. Meanwhile, the electrochemical sensor is capable to detect H2O2 in milk and serum samples with satisfactory recoveries. The ultra-sensitivity, rapid detection, and easy operation of the proposed sensor present significant prospect for real-time analysis and monitoring of H2O2 in foods and biological samples.
Direct Electrodeposition of Bimetallic Nanostructures on Co-Based MOFs for Electrochemical Sensing of Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is the most significant reactive oxygen species in biological systems. Here, we reported an electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 on the basis of bimetallic gold-platinum nanoparticles (Au3Pt7 NPs) supported by Co-based metal organic frameworks (Co-MOFs). First, Au3Pt7 NPs, with optimal electrocatalytic activity and accessible active surface, can be deposited on the surface of the Co-MOF-modified glassy carbon electrodes (Au3Pt7/Co-MOFs/GCE) by one-step electrodeposition method. Then, the electrochemical results demonstrated that the two-dimensional (2D) Co-MOF nanosheets as the supporting material displayed better electrocatalytic properties than the 3D Co-MOF crystals for reduction of H2O2. The fabricated Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF exhibited high electrocatalytic activity, and the catalytic current was linear with H2O2 concentration from 0.1 μM to 5 mM, and 5-60 mM with a low detection limit of 0.02 μM (S/N = 3). The remarkable electroanalytical performance of Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the high dispersion of the Au3Pt7 NPs with the marvelous electrochemical properties and the 2D Co-MOF with high-specific surface areas. Furthermore, this sensor has been utilized to detect H2O2 concentrations released from the human Hela cells. This work provides a new method for improving the performance of electrochemical sensors by choosing the proper support materials from diverse crystal morphology materials.

Abstract:In the present work, ultrafine Cu 2 O nanoparticles decorated MnO 2 nanocomposite (Cu 2 O@MnO 2 ) was prepared by the in-situ growth method. The morphologies of nanomaterials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. The poor electrical conductivity of MnO 2 nanosheets and the severe aggregation of Cu 2 O nanoparticles could be sufficiently overcome through the formation of nanocomposite. The electrochemical results proved that the Cu 2 O@MnO 2 nanocomposite exhibited a better electrocatalytic effect towards the reduction of H 2 O 2 than pure MnO 2 nanosheets and Cu 2 O nanoparticles due to the synergistic effect between these materials. Under the optimal condition, H 2 O 2 could be detected in the range of 0.5–20 μM with a detection limit of 0.2 μM. The modified electrode exhibited satisfactory stability and reproducibility, and could be used to detect H 2 O 2 in real sample. The results revealed that nanocomposites containing different metal oxides owned great potential application in designing high performance non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors.

Abstract:In this work, a novel sensor for detecting hydrogen peroxide was constructed on the base of nanotubular TiO2 and platinum nanoparticles. The morphology, structural, and electrochemical properties of the Pt/TiO2 nanocomposite electrodes were characterized by SEM, XRD and electrochemical methods. With an operating potential of +0.3 V versus Ag/AgCl, the sensor produces catalytic oxidation currents at the nanocomposite electrode, which can be exploited for quantitative determinations. ne amperometric signals are linearly proportional to hydrogen peroxide concentration in the range 4 x 10(-6) to.1.25 x 10(-3) M. The regression equation is I (mu A) = 0.85 c (mM) + 0.16 with a correction coefficient of 0.997. At a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, a detection limit of 4.0 mu M H2O2 can be observed for the nanocomposite electrode. In addition, the sensor has a good stability and reproducibility. The construction process is simple and inexpensive. The results demonstrated that nanotubular TiO2 exhibits great prospect for developing a class of ideal and novel bioreactors and biosensors.

Abstract:In this study, a sensitive and stable electrochemical sensor based on CuO-CeO2/MXene is constructed for the continuous detection of H2O2. CuO-CeO2 nanomaterials are applied as a catalyst to promote the electrolysis of H2O2 on the electrode surface as well as amplify the reduction current for the aim of H2O2 detection. MXene serves as a catalyst carrier for CuO-CeO2 and enhances the electron transfer rate during the reduction process of H2O2. Furthermore, the generation of hydroxyl radical during the decomposition of H2O2 is demonstrated by UV–vis spectrum and first-principles calculation to explore the reaction mechanism. The electrolysis rate of H2O2 is obtained as 0.61 × 103 M−1 s−1 by chronoamperometry. Based on the good properties, the electrochemical sensor fabricated by CuO-CeO2/MXene exhibits high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility. A good linear relationship is ranged from 5.0 μM to 100 μM with a low detection limit of 1.67 μM for H2O2 detection. Besides, the current signal is stable and reproducible when continuously testing H2O2 content, which can calculate a reliable H2O2 concentration value for practical application. The proposed approach sheds light on the rational design and assembly of electrochemical sensors and its relevant catalytic mechanism study.

Abstract:Ni(OH)2 nanoflowers were synthesized by a simple and energy-efficient wet chemistry method. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Then Ni(OH)2 nanoflowers attached multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were proposed (MWCNTs/Ni(OH)2/GCE) to use as electrochemical sensor to detect hydrogen peroxide. The results showed that the synergistic effect was obtained on the MWCNTs/Ni(OH)2/GCE whose sensitivity was better than that of Ni(OH)2/GCE. The linear range is from 0.2 to 22 mmol/L, the detection limit is 0.066 mmol/L, and the response time is <5 s. Satisfyingly, the MWCNTs/Ni(OH)2/GCE was not only successfully employed to eliminate the interferences from uric acid (UA), acid ascorbic (AA), dopamine (DA), glucose (GO) but also NO2- during the detection. The MWCNTs/Ni(OH)2/GCE allows highly sensitive, excellently selective and fast amperometric sensing of hydrogen peroxide and thus is promising for the future development of hydrogen peroxide sensors.
A Novel MXene@MOF@Pt NPs-Based Enzyme-Free Electrochemical Sensor for highly Sensitive Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide Released from Living Cells

Abstract:Rapid and accurate detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an important reactive oxygen species (ROS) released from living cells, is of great significance for early diagnosis of tumors. Here, a high sensitive enzyme-free electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 released from living cells was constructed based on MXene@ZIF-8@Pt NPs nanocomposites. Through the characterization of physical and chemical properties, it was observed that Pt NPs with excellent catalytic activity were uniformly supported on MXene@ZIF-8, which exhibited excellent conductivity and large specific surface area. Thanks to the significantly enhanced catalytic activity derived from the successful integration of MXene, ZIF-8 and Pt NPs, under the optimal conditions, the sensing platform based on MXene@ZIF-8@Pt NPs exhibited a wide linear range from 355.4 nM to 21.75 mM, with a limit of detection as low as 120.9 nM, while showing satisfactory reproducibility and selectivity. Furthermore, the developed electrochemical sensor enables real-time monitoring of H2O2 released from living Hela cells under N-formylmethionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine stimulation. Overall, the MXene@ZIF-8@Pt NPs developed in this article will become a promising candidate in monitoring physiological processes.

A hybrid of ultrathin metal-organic framework sheet and ultrasmall copper nanoparticles for detection of hydrogen peroxide with enhanced activity

Abstract:Here, we design and synthesize a novel 2D Cu-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) metal–organic framework (MOF) sheet and ultrasmall Cu5.4O nanoparticle (Cu5.4O USNP) hybrid (Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite). The graphene-like ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF sheets offer high surface-to-volume atom ratios and many active sites, which is beneficial for loading more Cu5.4O USNPs. The Cu5.4O USNPs with ultrasmall size (<5 nm) have promising conductivity and excellent enzymatic ability for H2O2. The successfully prepared nanocomposites are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) techniques. The 2D graphene-like ultrathin Cu-TCPP MOF sheets show no H2O2-sensing signals, whereas Cu5.4O USNPs exhibit a clear reduction peak for detection of H2O2. Interestingly, the combination of two kinds of nanomaterials improved the H2O2 sensing ability due to their synergistic effect. The properties of the unmodified electrodes and the Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite-modified electrodes were systemically studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), current-time (i-t) response, and square-wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 based on the Cu-TCPP MOF/Cu5.4O nanocomposite has a lower detection limit of 0.13 μmol·L−1 and wider linear range of 0.1 × 10−6 ~ 0.59 × 10−3 mol·L−1 and 1.59 × 10−3 ~ 20.59 × 10−3 mol·L−1 when compared with the Cu5.4O USNPs-modified electrode. The electrochemical sensor can be further used to detect H2O2 produced by cells.

Abstract:In situ monitoring of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) during its production process is needed. Here, an electrochemical H2O2 sensor with a wide linear current response range (concentration: 5 x 10(-8) to 5 x 10(-2) m), a low detection limit (32.4 x 10(-9) m), and a high sensitivity (568.47 mu A mm(-1) cm(-2)) is developed. The electrocatalyst of the sensor consists of cobalt nanoparticles and atomic Co-N-x moieties anchored on nitrogen doped carbon nanotube arrays (Co-N/CNT), which is obtained through the pyrolysis of the sandwich-like urea@ZIF-67 complex. More cobalt nanoparticles and atomic Co-N-x as active sites are exposed during pyrolysis, contributing to higher electrocatalytic activity. Moreover, a portable screen-printed electrode sensor is constructed and demonstrated for rapidly detecting (cost approximate to 40 s) H2O2 produced in microbial fuel cells with only 50 mu L solution. Both the synthesis strategy and sensor design can be applied to other energy and environmental fields.
Quantum Dot/TiO2 Nanocomposite‐Based Photoelectrochemical Sensor for Enhanced H2O2 Detection Applied for Cell Monitoring and Visualization

Abstract:A titanium oxide layer on top of a quantum dot‐modified gold electrode improves the stability of photoelectrochemical measurements. This work exploits the possibility of using CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD)‐electrodes to monitor the metabolism of living cells based on photoelectrochemical (PEC) measurements. To realize that, the PEC setup is improved with respect to an enhanced photocurrent signal, better stability, and an increased signal‐to‐noise ratio, but also for a better biocompatibility of the sensor surface on which cells have been grown. To achieve this, a QD‐TiO2 heterojunction is introduced with the help of atomic layer deposition (ALD). The heterojunction reduces the charge carrier recombination inside the semiconductor nanoparticles and improves the drift behavior. The PEC performance is carefully analyzed by adjusting the TiO2 thickness and combining this strategy with multilayer immobilizations of QDs. The optimal thickness of this coating is ≈5 nm; here, photocurrent generation can be enhanced significantly (e.g., for a single QD layer electrode by more than one order of magnitude at 0 V vs Ag/AgCl). The resulting optimized electrode is used for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensing with a good sensitivity down to μmolar concentrations, reusability, stability, response rate, and repeatability. Finally, the sensing system is applied to monitor the activity of cells directly grown on top of the electrode surface.

Abstract:Cuprous oxide/silver (Cu2O/Ag) nanocomposites were prepared via a facile one-step method and used to construct an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection. In this method, AgNO3 and Cu(NO3)2 were reduced to Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites by glucose in the presence of hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) at a low temperature. The optimum condition was the molar ratio of silver nitrate and copper nitrate of 1:10, the temperature of 50 °C. Under this condition, Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites were obtained with uniformly distributed and tightly combined Cu2O and Ag nanoparticles. The size of Cu2O particles was less than 100 nm and that of Ag particles was less than 20 nm. Electrochemical experiments indicate that the Cu2O/Ag nanocomposites-based sensor possesses an excellent performance toward H2O2, showing a linear range of 0.2 to 4000 μM, a high sensitivity of 87.0 μA mM−1 cm−2, and a low detection limit of 0.2 μM. The anti-interference capability experiments indicate this sensor has good selectivity toward H2O2. Additionally, the H2O2 recovery tests of the sensor in diluted milk solution signify its potential application in routine H2O2 analysis.

Abstract:Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has shown increasing importance for the creation of functional nanomaterials. Here we demonstrate the quick preparation of MoS2 nanoflowers decorated with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) by a simple one-step hydrothermal synthesis. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques were utilized to investigate the morphology of the fabricated MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids and the uniform decoration of PtNPs on MoS2. Other techniques like X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were used to measure the structure and properties of the synthesized MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids. We expected the created MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids to show excellent performance for biosensor applications. To prove this, the synthesized MoS2-PtNP nanohybrids were utilized in the application of an electrochemical hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor by using the nanohybrids to modify the glass carbon electrode. Our sensing result indicates that the fabricated MoS2-PtNP based H2O2 sensor reveals a wide linear range (0.02 to 4.72 mM), low detection limit (0.345 mu M, S/N - 3), high selectivity, and long-term stability (at least two weeks).
Amplified Electrochemical Hydrogen Peroxide Sensing Based on Cu-Porphyrin Metal–Organic Framework Nanofilm and G-Quadruplex-Hemin DNAzyme

Abstract:A novel electrochemical hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor based on Cu-porphyrin(Cu-TCPP)/G-quadruplex-hemin nanocomposite was constructed by assembling two-dimensional Cu-TCPP metal–organic framework (MOF) nanofilm and G-quadruplex-hemin DNAzyme. The Cu-TCPP synthesized by the surfactant-assisted method has a wrinkled two-dimensional nanofilm morphology, which gives it a large surface area and accessible active sites. Cu-TCPP exhibits peroxidase activity and good stability and can catalyze the reduction of H2O2. In addition, Cu-TCPP can be used as a nanocarrier for G-quadruplex-hemin DNAzyme with strong peroxidase activity to achieve "biological barcode" amplification and improve stability. The cooperative interaction of Cu-TCPP and G-quadruplex-hemin DNAzyme effectively amplifies the electrochemical response signal. Electrochemical studies have shown that the constructed sensor exhibits good electrochemical sensing performance with three linear ranges: 0.08 μM to 0.11 mM, 0.11–0.91 mM, and 0.91–8.1 mM, with sensitivities of 2315.86, 301.00, and 65.71 μA/(mM cm2), respectively, and the detection limit was 0.03 μM. In addition, the sensor shows good selectivity. Abstract:The direct electrocatalytic reduction of hydrogen peroxide in alkaline medium at a carbon ionic liquid electrode modified with copper oxide nanoparticles was investigated. The electrode was prepared by mixing graphite particles, ionic liquid (n-octylpyridium hexafluorophosphate) and copper oxide nanoparticles. Unlike the film-modified electrode, the fabrication of this electrode is simple and highly reproducible. The combination of the good conductivity of the ionic liquid and the high catalytic activity of the nanoparticles resulted in an electrode with attractive properties for the determination of hydrogen peroxide. The concentration of NaOH and the loading of copper oxide nanoparticles were optimized. The linear range for the determination of hydrogen peroxide is from 1.0 μM to 2.5 mM, the detection limit is 0.5 μM. High stability, sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility, fast response, the ease of preparation, and surface renewal made the electrode well suitable for the determination of hydrogen peroxide in real samples.

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)‐based nanozyme sensors are gaining attention for rapid on‐site H2O2 detection, which is beneficial for disease diagnosis and environmental monitoring. However, the severe agglomeration of AgNPs on the electrodes reduced electrochemical catalytic activity significantly. In this work, we fabricated N‐doped Ti3C2 MXene (named Ag/N‐Ti3C2) deposited with 3D flower‐like AgNPs to achieve ultrasensitive H2O2 detection. N doping strategy is employed to improve the conductivity of MXene, and the corresponding catalytic activity of Ag/N‐Ti3C2 is enhanced by optimizing the growth process and morphology. The Ag/N‐Ti3C2/GCE sensor exhibited a wide H2O2 detection range (0.05‐35 mM), a low limit detection (1.53 μM), and 3.1% RSD in 50 repeated CV measurements. The results above indicate that catalytic activity of metal nanozymes could be influenced by the substrate and both materials jointly determine the sensor's performance. As a result, N‐doped MXene is an attractive candidate for biological sensing and other electrocatalytic applications.
