Abstract:Transitioning to renewable energy requires substantial investment and presents challenges due to high costs. Digital Financial Inclusion (DFI) and technological innovation (TI) are essential for supporting this shift. Recent advancements in financial technology have significantly transformed financial services through DFI, which holds potential for promoting renewable energy consumption (REC). Therefore, the article adds to the existing research by analyzing the effects of DFI and TI on REC across 59 countries from 2004 to 2022. Employing the Bayesian Quantile Regression method, the study addresses limitations such as small sample sizes, endogeneity, autocorrelation, and multicollinearity. The results reveal that TI positively impacts REC across all quantiles (0.05–0.95) with a probability exceeding 70%, indicating TI as a significant driver of REC improvement. Conversely, DFI has a positive effect on REC at lower (0.05–0.30) and middle (0.35–0.70) quantiles, with a probability exceeding 76%, but its impact becomes negative at higher quantiles. In the light of these outcomes, we suggest that countries invest in renewable energy research and development (R&D) to promote TI, which positively impacts REC. Additionally, integrating the development of renewable energy infrastructure with DFI policies can enhance access to capital and facilitate the adoption of REC.
