Abstract:Georg Bretthauer war von 1997 bis 2015 Ordinarius für Angewandte Informatik/Automatisierungstechnik an der Universität Karlsruhe und Leiter des Institutes für Angewandte Informatik/Automatisierungstechnik (AIA) in der Fakultät für Maschinenbau der Universität Karlsruhe sowie Leiter des Institutes für Angewandte Informatik im Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (IAI) (heute KIT). Von 2002 bis 2018 war er der Herausgeber der Fachzeitschrift "Automatisierungstechnik - at". Seine wissenschaftlichen Interessen gelten der Modellbildung und Identifikation, der Automatisierungs-technik, der Mechatronik und der Künstlichen Intelligenz. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Georg Frey wurde 2009 auf den Lehrstuhl für Prozessautomatisierung an der Universität des Saarlandes (Nachfolge von Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hartmut Janocha) berufen, der zwischenzeitlich in Lehrstuhl für Automatisierungs- und Energiesysteme umgewidmet wurde. Zudem leitet er den Forschungsbereich Industrial Security am Zentrum für Mechatronik und Automatisierungstechnik (ZeMA) in Saarbrücken. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind modellbasierte Entwurfsverfahren für Automatisierungs- und Energiesysteme, Steuerungstechnik, Simulation, Safety und Security. Seit Mitte 2023 ist er zudem Chefredakteur Science der Zeitschrift atp - Magazin. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Seelecke ist seit 2011 Inhaber des Lehrstuhles für Unkonventionelle Aktorik an der Universität des Saarlandes. Der Lehrstuhl wurde 2015 in Lehrstuhl für Intelligente Materialsysteme (iMSL) umbenannt und gehört heute zu den Fachrichtungen Systems Engineering sowie Materialwissenschaften und Werkstofftechnik. Aufbauend auf zahlreichen DFG-geförderten Grundlagenforschungsprojekten steht die anwendungsorientierte Entwicklung neuer Technologien mit intelligenten Materialien, speziell elektroaktiven Polymeren und Formgedächtnislegierungen, im Fokus der Arbeitsgruppe. Diese Entwicklung beinhaltet neben Systemlösungen aus den Bereichen Sensorik und Aktorik vor allem auch Ansätze im Forschungsgebiet Elastokalorik, einer innovativen und nachhaltigen Heiz- und Kühltechnologie auf Basis von Formgedächtnislegierungen und Polymeren. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston

Abstract:Philipp Rostalski is a professor for Electrical Engineering in Medicine and founding director of the corresponding institute at the University of Lübeck. Since 2020 he is also director at the Fraunhofer IMTE, Fraunhofer Research Institution for Individualized and Cell-Based Medical Engineering in Lübeck. He received his Ph.D. degree from ETH Zurich, Switzerland and served as a Feodor Lynen Scholar at the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California Berkeley, USA. His research activities include model- and data-driven methods in signal processing and control with a particular focus on safety-critical systems. Primary application domains are biomedical and autonomous systems. Philipp Rostalski is speaker of the Technical Committee AUTOMED of the DGBMT/GMA within VDE/VDI. Thomas Schanze is a professor of biomedical engineering at THM since 2009 and head of the project area for biomedical signal processing and neuroprosthetics at TransMIT GmbH, Giessen, since 2011. He received his Ph.D. degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in physics from the Philipps University of Marburg, Germany in 1995. From 1989 to 2004 he worked at the Department of Physics at the Philipps University of Marburg. From 1992 to 1994 he worked for Uwe Thomas Recording GmbH, Marburg, as a senior electronics developer. From 2005 to 2006, he was employed at the Medical Faculty of RWTH Aachen University as a research scientist. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as a senior employee, board member, CEO and independent consultant in the fields of optics and retinal implants. His research interests include biomedical engineering, signal processing, neuro and computational physics, artificial intelligence/machine learning and optics. He holds patents in the fields of biomedical engineering and optics and has published more than 100 papers. Thomas Schanze was host of the AUTOMED Symposium 2023 at TH Mittelhessen, Gießen, Germany in March 2023. Thomas Seel is the Director of the Institute of Mechatronic Systems at Leibniz Universität Hannover. He studied Engineering Cybernetics at OVGU Magdeburg and UC Santa Barabara, and he received the PhD degree in Systems and Control Engineering from TU Berlin in 2016. He has been a full professor at the Department Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg since 2021 and has been appointed at Leibniz Universität Hannover in 2023. His research interests include sensor fusion, dynamic learning, and sensorimotor AI in robotics and biomedical applications. Abstract:Timm Faulwasser has studied Engineering Cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart, with majors in Systems and Control and Philosophy. From 2008 until 2012 he was a member of the International Max Planck Research School for Analysis, Design and Optimization in Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering Magdeburg. In 2012 he obtained his PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Engineering, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany. From 2013 to 2016 he was with the Laboratoire d'Automatique, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, while 2015–2019 he was leading the Optimization and Control Group at the Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he successfully completed his habilitation in the Department of Informatics in 2020. In November 2019 he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Dortmund University, Germany. Currently, he serves as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, the IEEE Control System Letters, as well as Mathematics of Control Systems and Signals. His main research interests are optimization-based and predictive control of nonlinear systems and networks with applications in energy, process systems engineering, mechatronics, and beyond. Dr. Faulwasser received the 2021–2023 Automatica Paper Prize. Kathrin Flaßkamp received the Diploma degree in technomathematik (applied mathematics with major in mechanical engineering) in 2008. Then, she was a member of the DFG Collaborative Research Center Self-Optimizing Concepts and Structures in Mechanical Engineering in Paderborn. In 2013 she received her Ph.D. (Dr.rer.nat.) degree in mathematics from Paderborn University, Paderborn, Germany and was recipient of the University's Dissertation award. From 2014 to 2015, she was visiting postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University, Neuroscience and Robotics Laboratory, Chicago/Evanston, IL, USA, and from 2016 to 2019, she held a postdoc position at the Center for Industrial Mathematics, University of Bremen, Germany. Since 2020, she has been Full Professor for Systems Modeling and Simulation with Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany, as part of the Institute for Systems Engineering. Her research interests lie within the field of modeling, simulation, optimization, and optimal control, focusing on the development of efficient numerical methods and on the applications to technological systems. Klaus Röbenack received the Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees in electrical engineering and the Dipl.-Math. degree and university teaching qualification (Habilitation) from Technische Universität Dresden, Dresden, Germany, in 1993, 1999, 2002, and 2005, respectively. Since 2009 he has been director of the Institute of Control Theory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the TUD Dresden University of Technology. His research interests include the design of nonlinear controllers and observers as well as scientific computing. Karl Worthmann received his Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, in 2012. 2014 he became assistant professor for "Differential Equations" at Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau), Germany. 2019 he was promoted to full professor after receiving the Heisenberg-professorship "Optimization-based Control" by the German Research Foundation (DFG). He was recipient of the Ph.D. Award from the City of Bayreuth, Germany, and stipend of the German National Academic Foundation. 2013 he has been appointed Junior Fellow of the Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM), where he served as speaker in 2014 and 2015. Abstract:The Institute of Materials and Processes, IMP, of the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe, Germany in cooperation with VDI Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e.V, AEN Automotive Engineering Network and their cooperation partners present their competences of AI-based solution approaches in the production engineering field. The online congress KI 4 Industry on November 12 and 13, 2020, showed what opportunities the use of artificial intelligence offers for medium-sized manufacturing companies, SMEs, and where potential fields of application lie. The main purpose of KI 4 Industry is to increase the transfer of knowledge, research and technology from universities to small and medium-sized enterprises, to demystify the term AI and to encourage companies to use AI-based solutions in their own value chain or in their products.

Abstract:The TriRhenaTech alliance universities and their partners presented their competences in the field of artificial intelligence and their cross-border cooperations with the industry at the tri-national conference 'Artificial Intelligence : from Research to Application' on March 13th, 2019 in Offenburg. The TriRhenaTech alliance is a network of universities in the Upper Rhine Trinational Metropolitan Region comprising of the German universities of applied sciences in Furtwangen, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, and Offenburg, the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Loerrach, the French university network Alsace Tech (comprised of 14 'grandes \'ecoles' in the fields of engineering, architecture and management) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland. The alliance's common goal is to reinforce the transfer of knowledge, research, and technology, as well as the cross-border mobility of students.

Abstract:Das Junge Forum O und U (JFOU) wurde 2023 stolze 20 Jahre alt. Was im Jahr 2003 als DGU-Arbeitsgruppe begann [1], ist durch zahlreiche Projektarbeiten zu einer großen Arbeitsgemeinschaft gewachsen mit dem Ziel, die Interessen junger Ärztinnen und Ärzte im Fach Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie in den Fachgesellschaften zu vertreten. Dieses Jubiläum konnte im Rahmen des DKOU 2023 zusammen mit vielen ehemaligen Leitungsteams aus dem JFOU gebührend gefeiert werden – in einer abwechslungsreichen Podiumsdiskussion ließen wir die 20 Jahre Revue passieren (siehe [Abb. 1]).
