Abstract:Let λ and μ be sequence spaces and have both the signed-weak gliding hump property, (λ, μ) the algebra of the infinite matrix operators which transform λ into μ. In this paper, it is proved that if λ and μ are β-spaces and λ β and μ β have also the signed-weak gliding hump property, then for any polar topology τ, ((λ, μ), τ) is always sequentially complete locally convex topological algebra.

Abstract:We establish conditions under which an inclusion of finitely aligned left-cancellative small categories induces inclusions of twisted C*-algebras. We also present an example of an inclusion of finitely aligned left-cancellative monoids that does not induce a homomorphism even between (untwisted) Toeplitz algebras. We prove that the twisted C*-algebras of a jointly faithful self-similar action of a countable discrete amenable groupoid on a row-finite k-graph with no sources, with respect to homotopic cocycles, have isomorphic K-theory.

Abstract:We generalize the Li-Yang notion of self-similar $k$-graph $(G,\Lambda)$ and its $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal{O}_{G,\Lambda}$ to any finitely aligned $k$-graph $\Lambda$. We then introduce an inverse semigroup model for $\mathcal{O}_{G,\Lambda}$ and analyze its tight groupoid and $C^*$-algebra via inverse semigroup methods.

Abstract:We determine the primitive ideal space and hence the ideal lattice of a large class of separable groupoid C*-algebras that includes all 2-graph C*-algebras. A key ingredient is the notion of harmonious families of bisections in etale groupoids associated to finite families of commuting local homeomorphisms. Our results unify and recover all known results on ideal structure for crossed products of commutative C*-algebras by free abelian groups, for graph C*-algebras, and for Katsura's topological graph C*-algebras.

1D self-similar fractals with centro-symmetric Jacobians: asymptotics and modular data

Abstract:We establish asymptotics of growing one dimensional self-similar fractal graphs, they are networks that allow multiple weighted edges between nodes, in terms of quantum central limit theorems for algebraic probability spaces in pure state. An additional structure is endowed with the repeating units of centro-symmetric Jacobians in the adjacency of a linear graph creating a self-similar fractal. The family of fractals induced by centro-symmetric Jacobians formulated as orthogonal polynomials that satisfy three term recurrence relations support such limits. The construction proceeds with the interacting fock spaces, T-algebras endowed with a quantum probability space, corresponding to the Jacobi coefficients of the recurrence relations and when some elements of the centro-symmetric matrix are constrained in a specific way we obtain, as the same Jacobian structure is repeated, the central limits. The generic formulation of Leonard pairs that form bases of conformal blocks and probablistic laplacians used in physics provide choice of centro-symmetric Jacobians widening the applicability of the result. We establish that the T-algebras of these 1D fractals, as they form a special class of distance-regular graphs, are thin and the induced association schemes are self-duals that lead to anyon systems with modular invariance.

Exel-Pardo algebras of self-similar $k$-graphs

Abstract:We introduce the Exel-Pardo $*$-algebra $\mathrm{EP}_R(G,\Lambda)$ associated to a self-similar $k$-graph $(G,\Lambda,\varphi)$. We prove the $\mathbb{Z}^k$-graded and Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorems for such algebras and investigate their ideal structure. In particular, we modify the graded uniqueness theorem for self-similar 1-graphs, and then apply it to present $\mathrm{EP}_R(G,\Lambda)$ as a Steinberg algebra and to study the ideal structure.

KK-duality for self-similar groupoid actions on graphs

Abstract:We extend Nekrashevych's $KK$-duality for $C^*$-algebras of regular, recurrent, contracting self-similar group actions to regular, contracting self-similar groupoid actions on a graph, removing the recurrence condition entirely and generalising from a finite alphabet to a finite graph. More precisely, given a regular and contracting self-similar groupoid $(G,E)$ acting faithfully on a finite directed graph $E$, we associate two $C^*$-algebras, $\mathcal{O}(G,E)$ and $\widehat{\mathcal{O}}(G,E)$, to it and prove that they are strongly Morita equivalent to the stable and unstable Ruelle C*-algebras of a Smale space arising from a Wieler solenoid of the self-similar limit space. That these algebras are Spanier-Whitehead dual in $KK$-theory follows from the general result for Ruelle algebras of irreducible Smale spaces proved by Kaminker, Putnam, and the last author.

Grothendieck topology of $C^*$-algebras

Abstract:For any topological space there is a sheaf cohomology. A Grothendieck topology is a generalization of the classical topology such that it also possesses a sheaf cohomology. On the other hand any noncommutative $C^*$-algebra is a generalization of a locally compact Hausdorff space. Here we define a Grothendieck topology arising from $C^*$-algebras which is a generalization of the topology of the spectra of commutative $C^*$-algebras. This construction yields a noncommutative generalization of the sheaf cohomology of topological spaces. The presented here theory gives a unified approach to the Gelfand duality and the duality between the commutative von Neumann algebras and measure locales. The generalization of the Dixmier-Douady theory concerning $C^*$-algebras of foliations is also discussed.

Abstract:Let $B$ be a finitely generated algebra over a field $k$. Then $B$ is called a Jacobson algebra if every semiprime ideal of $B$ is semiprimitive. We will discuss several conditions, all involving the commutant of simple $B$-modules, which imply that $B$ is Jacobson. In particular, we will recover the well-known result that every finitely generated almost commutative algebra is Jacobson. The same holds true for $\mathbb{N}$-filtered $k$-algebras $B$ with a locally finite filtration such that the associated graded $k$-algebra is left-noetherian.
The primitive spectrum of C*-algebras of etale groupoids with abelian isotropy

Abstract:Given a Hausdorff locally compact étale groupoid $\mathcal G$, we describe as a topological space the part of the primitive spectrum of $C^*(\mathcal G)$ obtained by inducing one-dimensional representations of amenable isotropy groups of $\mathcal G$. When $\mathcal G$ is amenable, second countable, with abelian isotropy groups, our result gives the description of $\operatorname{Prim} C^*(\mathcal G)$ conjectured by van Wyk and Williams. This, in principle, completely determines the ideal structure of a large class of separable C$^*$-algebras, including the transformation group C$^*$-algebras defined by amenable actions of discrete groups with abelian stabilizers and the C$^*$-algebras of higher rank graphs.

From the Albert algebra to Kac's ten-dimensional Jordan superalgebra via tensor categories in characteristic 5

Abstract:Kac's ten-dimensional simple Jordan superalgebra over a field of characteristic 5 is obtained from a process of semisimplification, via tensor categories, from the exceptional simple Jordan algebra (or Albert algebra), together with a suitable order 5 automorphism. This explains McCrimmon's 'bizarre result' asserting that, in characteristic 5, Kac's superalgebra is a sort of 'degree 3 Jordan superalgebra'. As an outcome, the exceptional simple Lie superalgebra el(5;5), specific of characteristic 5, is obtained from the simple Lie algebra of type $E_8$ and an order 5 automorphism. In the process, precise recipes to obtain superalgebras from algebras in the category of representations of the cyclic group $C_p$, over a field of characteristic $p>2$, are given.

Graphical models for topological groups: A case study on countable Stone spaces

Abstract:By analogy with the Cayley graph of a group with respect to a finite generating set or the Cayley-Abels graph of a totally disconnected, locally compact group, we introduce countable connected graphs associated to Polish groups that we term Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graphs. A group admitting a Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graph acts on it continuously, coarsely metrically properly and cocompactly by isometries of the path metric. By an expansion of the Milnor-Schwarz lemma, it follows that the group is generated by a coarsely bounded set and the group equipped with (a suitably compatible alteration of) a word metric with respect to a coarsely bounded generating set and the graph are quasi-isometric. In other words, groups admitting Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graphs are topological analogues of the finitely generated groups. Our goal is to introduce this topological perspective to a geometric group theorist. We apply these concepts to homeomorphism groups of countable Stone spaces. We completely characterize when these homeomorphism groups are coarsely bounded, when they are locally bounded (all of them are), and when they admit a Cayley-Abels-Rosendal graph, and if so produce a coarsely bounded generating set.

A Cuntz--Krieger Uniqueness theorem for C*-algebras of relative generalized Boolean dynamical systems

Abstract:We prove a version of the Cuntz--Krieger Uniqueness Theorem for $C^*$-algebras of arbitrary relative generalized Boolean dynamical systems. We then describe properties of a $C^*$-algebra of a relative generalized Boolean dynamical system when the underlying Boolean dynamical system satisfies Condition (K). We also define a notion of minimality of a Boolean dynamical system and give sufficient and necessary conditions for the minimality. Using these results, we characterize the generalized Boolean dynamical systems who's $C^*$-algebra is simple.

Abstract:We discuss the relative K-theory for a $C^{*}$-algebra, $A$, together with a $C^{*}$-subalgebra, $A' \subseteq A$. The relative group is denoted $K_{i}(A';A), i = 0, 1$, and is due to Karoubi. We present a situation of two pairs $A' \subseteq A$ and $B' \subseteq B$ are related so that there is a natural isomorphism between their respective relative K-theories. We also discuss applications to the case where $A$ and $B$ are $C^{*}$-algebras of a pair of locally compact, Hausdorff topological groupoids, with Haar systems.

Abstract:Tensor hierarchy algebras constitute a class of non-contragredient Lie superalgebras, whose finite-dimensional members are the "Cartan-type" Lie superalgebras in Kac's classification. They have applications in mathematical physics, especially in extended geometry and gauged supergravity. We further develop the recently proposed definition of tensor hierarchy algebras in terms of generators and relations encoded in a Dynkin diagram (which coincides with the diagram for a related Borcherds superalgebra). We apply it to cases where a grey node is added to the Dynkin diagram of a rank $r+1$ Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}^+$, which in turn is an extension of a rank $r$ finite-dimensional semisimple simply laced Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The algebras are specified by $\mathfrak{g}$ together with a dominant integral weight $\lambda$. As a by-product, a remarkable identity involving representation matrices for arbitrary integral highest weight representations of $\mathfrak{g}$ is proven. An accompanying paper describes the application of tensor hierarchy algebras to the gauge structure and dynamics in models of extended geometry.

Abstract:We unite elements of category theory, K-theory, and geometric group theory, by defining a class of groups called $k$-cube groups, which act freely and transitively on the product of $k$ trees, for arbitrary $k$. The quotient of this action on the product of trees defines a $k$-dimensional cube complex, which induces a higher-rank graph. We make deductions about the K-theory of the corresponding $k$-rank graph C*-algebras, and give explicit examples of $k$-cube groups and their K-theory. We give explicit computations of K-theory for an infinite family of $k$-rank graphs for $k\geq 3$, which is not a direct consequence of the Künneth Theorem for tensor products.

Relative topological principality and the ideal intersection property for groupoid C*-algebras

Abstract:We introduce the notion of relative topological principality for a family $\{H_\alpha\}$ of open subgroupoids of a Hausdorff étale groupoid $G$. The C*-algebras $C^*_r(H_\alpha)$ of the groupoids $H_\alpha$ embed in $ C^*_r(G)$ and we show that if $G$ is topologically principal relative to $\{H_\alpha\}$ then a representation of $C^*_r(G)$ is faithful if and only if its restriction to each of the subalgebras $C^*_r(H_\alpha)$ is faithful. This variant of the ideal intersection property potentially involves several subalgebras, and gives a new method of verifying injectivity of representations of reduced groupoid C*-algebras. As applications we prove a uniqueness theorem for Toeplitz C*-algebras of left cancellative small categories that generalizes a recent result of Laca and Sehnem for Toeplitz algebras of group-embeddable monoids, and we also discuss and compare concrete examples arising from integer arithmetic.
