Abstract:The plant hormone auxin modulates cell proliferation and cell expansion in part by changing gene expression. Among the three primary auxin response gene families, Aux/IAA, GH3 and SAUR, the function of SAUR genes remains unclear. SAUR transcripts were initially identified in epidermal and cortical cells of elongating tissues and thus were supposed to regulate cell expansion downstream of auxin transport and auxin signaling. Recent studies have proposed that SAUR proteins are able to modulate auxin transport and cell expansion by an unknown mechanism. We present our work on the SAUR41 subfamily genes of Arabidopsis (SAUR41, SAUR40, SAUR71 and SAUR72). Similar to the fusion protein between SAUR41 and EGFP, both SAUR40-EGFP and SAUR71-EGFP were identified in the cytoplasm of all types of root tip cells. This result indicated that the subcellular location pattern of SAUR proteins among the members of the same subfamily could be similar to each other, although the overall location pattern of SAUR proteins appeared to be highly diverse. SAUR41 was distinctively expressed in the quiescent center and cortex/endodermis initials of root stem cell niches and in the endodermis of hypocotyls, whereas SAUR71 and SAUR72 were expressed in the steles of young roots and hypocotyls. In addition, SAUR71 was differentially expressed during stomatal formation. The tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression patterns of the SAUR41 subfamily genes imply that SAUR transcripts or SAUR proteins might serve as signal molecules to ensure the coordination of cell proliferation and cell expansion. Finally, Arabidopsis seedlings expressing TAP (tandem affinity peptide) tagged SAUR41 displayed phenotypes, indicating that it was rational to use the TAP approach for identification of potential binding partners of SAUR41 proteins.

Abstract:Among the three primary auxin-induced gene families, Auxin/Indole-3-Acetic Acid (Aux/IAA), Gretchen Hagen3 (GH3) and SMALL AUXIN UP RNA (SAUR), the function of SAUR genes remains unclear. Arabidopsis SAUR genes have been phylogenetically classified into three clades. Recent work has suggested that SAUR19 (clade II) and SAUR63 (clade I) promote cell expansion through the modulation of auxin transport. Herein, we present our work on SAUR41, a clade III SAUR gene with a distinctive expression pattern in root meristems. SAUR41 was normally expressed in the quiescent center and cortex/endodermis initials; upon auxin stimulation, the expression was provoked in the endodermal layer. During lateral root development, SAUR41 was expressed in prospective stem cell niches of lateral root primordia and in expanding endodermal cells surrounding the primordia. SAUR41-EGFP (enhanced green fluorescent protein) fusion proteins localized to the cytoplasm. Overexpression of SAUR41 from the Cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter led to pleiotropic auxin-related phenotypes, including long hypocotyls, increased vegetative biomass and lateral root development, expanded petals and twisted inflorescence stems. Ectopic SAUR41 proteins were able to promote auxin transport in hypocotyls. Tissue-specific expression of SAUR41 from the PIN1, WOX5, PLT2 and ACR4 promoters induced the formation of new auxin accumulation/signaling peaks above the quiescent centers, whereas tissue-specific expression of SAUR41 from the PIN2 and PLT2 promoters enhanced root gravitropic growth. Cells in the root stem cell niches of these transgenic seedlings were differentially enlarged. The distinctive expression pattern of the SAUR41 gene and the explicit function of SAUR41 proteins implied that further investigations on the loss-of-function phenotypes of this gene in root development and environmental responses are of great interest.
The SAUR41 Subfamily of SMALL AUXIN UP RNA Genes is Abscisic Acid Inducible to Modulate Cell Expansion and Salt Tolerance in Arabidopsis Thaliana Seedlings.

Abstract:Background and Aims Most primary auxin response genes are classified into three families: AUX/IAA, GH3 and SAUR genes. Few studies have been conducted on Arabidopsis thaliana SAUR genes. possibly due to genetic redundancy among different subfamily members. Data mining on arabidopsis transcriptional profiles indicates that the SAUR41 subfamily members of SMALL AUXIN UP RNA genes are, strikingly, induced by an inhibitory phytohormone, abscisic acid (ABA). We aimed to reveal the physiological roles of arabidopsis SAUR41 subfamily genes containing SAUR40, SAUR41, SAUR71 and SAUR72. Methods Transcriptional responses of arabidopsis SAUR41 genes to phytohormones were determined by quantitative real-time PCR. Knock out of SAUR41 genes was carried out with the CRISPR/Cas9 (clustered regulatory interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein 9) genome editing technique. The saur41/40/71/72 quadruple mutants, SAUR41 overexpression lines and the wild type were subjected to ultrastructural observation, transcriptome analysis and physiological characterization. Key Results Transcription of arabidopsis SAUR41 subfamily genes is activated by ABA but not by gibberellic acids and brassinosteroids. Quadruple mutations in saur41/40/71/72 led to reduced cell expansion/elongation in cotyledons and hypocotyls, opposite to the overexpression of SAUR41; however, an irregular arrangement of cell size and shape was observed in both cases. The quadruple mutants had increased transcription of calcium homeostasis/signalling genes in seedling shoots, and the SAUR41 overexpression lines bad decreased transcription of iron homeostasis genes in roots and increased ABA biosynthesis in shoots. Notably, both the quadruple mutants and the SAUR41 overexpression lines were hypersensitive to salt stress during seedling establishment, whereas specific expression of SAUR41 under the ABA-responsive RD29A (Responsive to Desiccation 29A) promoter in the quadruple mutants rescued the inhibitory effect of salt stress. Conclusions The SAUR41 subfamily genes of arabidopsis arc ABA inducible to modulate cell expansion, ion homeostasis and salt tolerance. Our work may provide new candidate genes for improvement of plant abiotic stress tolerance.

Abstract:The plant hormone auxin plays a vital role in regulating many aspects of plant growth and development. Small auxin up-regulated RNAs (SAURs) are primary auxin response genes hypothesized to be involved in auxin signaling pathway, but their functions remain unclear. Here, a genome-wide search for SAUR gene homologues in Solanaceae species identified 99 and 134 members of SAUR gene family from tomato and potato, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the SAUR proteins from Arabidopsis, rice, sorghum, tomato and potato were divided into four major groups with 16 subgroups. Among them, 25 histidine-rich SAURs genes with metal-binding characteristics were found in Arabidopsis, sorghum and Solanaceae species, but not in rice. Using tomato as a model, a comprehensive overview of SAUR gene family is presented, including the gene structures, phylogeny and chromosome locations. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis indicated that 11 randomly selected SlSAUR genes in tomato could be expressed at least in one of the tomato organs/tissues tested. However, different SlSAUR genes displayed distinctive expression levels. SlSAUR16 and SlSAUR71 exhibited highly tissue-specific expression patterns. Almost all of the detected SlSAURs showed an accumulating pattern of mRNA along tomato flower and fruit development. Some of them displayed differential response to exogenous IAA treatment. The abiotic (cold, salt and drought) stresses significantly modified transcript levels of SlSAURs genes. Most of them were down-regulated in response to abiotic stresses (drought, heat and salinity), but SlSAUR58, as a histidine-rich SAUR gene, was up-regulated after salt treatment, indicating that it may play a specific role in the salt signaling transduction pathway. Our comparative analysis provides some basic genomic information for the SAUR genes in the Solanaceae species and will pave the way for deciphering their function during plant development.

Abstract:Small auxin-upregulated RNAs（SAURs） are genes regulated by auxin and environmental factors. In this study, we identified a SAUR gene in wheat, Ta SAUR75. Under salt stress,Ta SAUR75 is downregulated in wheat roots. Subcellular localization revealed that Ta SAUR75 was localized in both the cytoplasm and nucleus. Overexpression of Ta SAUR75 increased drought and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis. Transgenic lines showed higher root length and survival rate and higher expression of some stress-responsive genes than control plants under salt and drought stress. Less H 2 O 2 accumulated in transgenic lines than in control plants under drought stress. Our findings reveal a positive regulatory role of the auxin-responsive gene Ta SAUR75 in plant responses to drought and salt stress and provide a candidate gene for improvement of abiotic stress tolerance in crop breeding.

Abstract:Auxin serves as an essential regulator of the expression of many different genes in plants, thereby regulating growth and development. The specific functional roles of members of the SAUR (small auxin-up RNA) auxin early response gene family in the development of cucumber plants, however, remain to be fully clarified. Here, 62 SAUR family genes were identified, followed by their classification into 7 groups that included several functionally associated cis-regulatory elements. Phylogenetic tree and chromosomal location-based analyses revealed a high degree of homology between two cucumber gene clusters and other plants in the Cucurbitaceae family. These findings, together with the results of an RNA-seq analysis, revealed high levels of CsSAUR31 expression within the root and male flower tissues. Plants overexpressing CsSAUR31 exhibited longer roots and hypocotyls. Together, these results provide a basis for further efforts to explore the roles that SAUR genes play in cucumber plants, while also expanding the pool of available genetic resources to guide research focused on plant growth and development.

Abstract:Salvia miltiorrhiza (S. miltiorrhiza) is an important Chinese herb that is derived from the perennial plant of Lamiaceae, which has been used to treat neurasthenic insomnia and cardiovascular disease. We produced a mutant S. miltiorrhiza (MT), from breeding experiments, that possessed a large taproot, reduced lateral roots, and defective flowering. We performed transcriptome profiling of wild type (WT) and MT S. miltiorrhiza using second-generation Illumina sequencing to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that could account for these phenotypical differences. Of the DEGs identified, we investigated the role of SmGASA4, the expression of which was down-regulated in MT plants. SmGASA4 was introduced into Arobidopsis and S. militiorrhiza under the control of a CaMV35S promoter to verify its influence on abiotic stress and S. miltiorrhiza secondary metabolism biosynthesis. SmGASA4 was found to promote flower and root development in Arobidopsis. SmGASA4 was also found to be positively regulated by Gibberellin (GA) and significantly enhanced plant resistance to salt, drought, and paclobutrazol (PBZ) stress. SmGASA4 also led to the up-regulation of the genes involved in salvianolic acid biosynthesis, but inhibited the expression of the genes involved in tanshinone biosynthesis. Taken together, our results reveal SmGASA4 as a promising candidate gene to promote S. miltiorrhiza development.

Abstract:The plant SABATH gene family is a group of O-methyltransferases (O-MTs), which belongs to the S-adenosyl-l-methionine-dependent methyltransferases (SAM-MTs). The resulting reaction products of SABATH genes play an important role in various processes of plant development. In this study, a total of 30 SABATH genes were detected in Salvia miltiorrhiza, which is an important medicinal plant, widely used to treat cardiovascular disease. Multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analyses showed that SmSABATH genes could be classified into three groups. The ratios of non-synonymous (Ka) and synonymous (Ks) substitution rates of 11 pairs paralogous of SmSABATH genes revealed that the SmSABATH genes had gone through purifying selection. Positive selection analyses using site models and branch-site models indicated that SmSABATH genes had undergone selective pressure for adaptive evolution. Functional divergence analyses suggested that the SmSABATH subgroup genes were divergent in terms of functions and positive selection sites that contributed to a functional divergence among the subgroups that were detected. Tissue-specific expression showed that the SABATH gene family in S. miltiorrhiza was primarily expressed in stems and leaves.

Abstract:GH3 (Gretchen Hagen 3) is a gene family involved in the response to auxin and plays a role in regulation of plant growth, development and stress responses. The GH3 gene family has been well investigated in genome wide in various plants containing Arabidopsis, rice, maize, etc. However, the study on the GH3 family and its roles involved in JA-signal pathway in Salvia miltiorrhiza is lacking. In this study, we performed a systematic identification of the SmGH3 gene family in genome wide and detected 11 members on 8 S. miltiorrhiza scaffolds. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that SmGH3 proteins could be clustered in two major categories with groups 1 and 2 of GH3 family of Arabidopsis. Diversified cis-elements in the promoter of SmGH3 were predicted as essential players in regulating SmGH3 expression patterns by using PlantCARE database. Gene structure and motif analyses indicated that most SmGH3 genes had relatively conserved exon/intron arrangements and motif compositions. RNA-seq analysis and RT-qPCR showed that 3 SmGH3s (SmGH3.2, SmGH3.6, and SmGH3.10) were up-regulated in S. miltiorrhiza treated by MeJA. Moreover, tissue-specific expression patterns of each SmGH3 genes in different tissues suggested that the various members of GH3 genes conducted their role in the different tissues of S. miltiorrhiza. These results would provide a comprehensive understanding of the GH3 gene family in S. miltiorrhiza and lay a foundation for exploration of their functional divergence and genetic manipulation.

Abstract:The SAUR (small auxin-up RNA) family constitutes a category of genes that promptly respond to the hormone auxin and play a pivotal role in diverse biological processes encompassing plant growth and the response to abiotic stress. Santalum album L., a semi-parasitic evergreen tree, is renowned for its economically valuable essential oils, positioning it among the most prized tree species. In this study, a meticulous identification and comprehensive analysis of 43 SAUR genes was conducted within S. album. Based on phylogenetic relationships, the SaSAUR genes were systematically categorized into five groups. A collinearity analysis revealed intriguing insights, disclosing 14 segmental duplications and 9 tandem duplications within the SaSAUR genes, emphasizing the pivotal role of duplication in the expansion of this gene family. Noteworthy variations in the expression levels of SaSAUR genes were observed by delving into the SaSAUR transcriptome data from various tissues, including leaves, roots, and heartwood, as well as under salt-stress conditions. Notably, SaSAUR08 and SaSAUR13 were significantly upregulated in heartwood compared with roots and leaves, while SaSAUR18 was markedly more expressed in roots compared with heartwood and leaves. Furthermore, SaSAUR27 and SaSAUR28 were found to respond closely to salt stress, hinting at their potential involvement in the salt-stress response mechanism. This research offers a comprehensive investigation of SAUR genes in S. album and establishes a foundation for future exploration of the SAUR gene family, particularly its relation to growth and salt-stress responses.

Abstract:The wax gourd (Benincasa hispida) is an important vegetable crop whose fruits contain nutrients and metabolites. Small auxin upregulated RNA (SAUR) genes constitute the largest early auxin-responsive gene family and regulate various biological processes in plants, although this gene family has not been studied in the wax gourd. Here, we performed genome-wide identification of the SAUR gene family in wax gourds and analyzed their syntenic and phylogenetic relationships, gene structures, conserved motifs, cis-acting elements, and expression patterns. A total of 68 SAUR (BhSAUR) genes were identified, which were distributed on nine chromosomes with 41 genes in two clusters. More than half of the BhSAUR genes were derived from tandem duplication events. The BhSAUR proteins were classified into seven subfamilies. BhSAUR gene promoters contained cis-acting elements involved in plant hormone and environmental signal responses. Further expression profiles showed that BhSAUR genes displayed different expression patterns. BhSAUR60 was highly expressed in fruits, and overexpression led to longer fruits in Arabidopsis. In addition, the plants with overexpression displayed longer floral organs and wavy stems. In conclusion, our results provide a systematic analysis of the wax gourd SAUR gene family and facilitate the functional study of BhSAUR60 during wax gourd fruit development.
Genome-wide identification and characterization of small auxin-up RNA (SAUR) gene family in plants: evolution and expression profiles during normal growth and stress response

Abstract:Background: Auxin is critical to plant growth and development, as well as stress responses. Small auxin-up RNA (SAUR) is the largest family of early auxin responsive genes in higher plants. However, the function of few SAUR genes is known owing to functional redundancy among the many family members. Results: In this study, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis using protein sequences of 795 SAURs from Anthoceros angustus, Marchantia polymorpha, Physcomitrella patens, Selaginella moellendorffii, Ginkgo biloba, Gnetum montanum, Amborella trichopoda, Arabidopsis thaliana, Oryza sativa, Zea mays, Glycine max, Medicago truncatula and Setaria italica. The phylogenetic trees showed that the SAUR proteins could be divided into 10 clades and three subfamilies, and that SAUR proteins of three bryophyte species were only located in subfamily III, which suggested that they may be ancestral. From bryophyta to anthophyta, SAUR family have appeared very large expansion. The number of SAUR gene in Fabaceae species was considerably higher than that in other plants, which may be associated with independent whole genome duplication event in the Fabaceae lineages. The phylogenetic trees also showed that SAUR genes had expanded independently monocotyledons and dicotyledons in angiosperms. Conserved motif and protein structure prediction revealed that SAUR proteins were highly conserved among higher plants, and two leucine residues in motif I were observed in almost all SAUR proteins, which suggests the residues plays a critical role in the stability and function of SAUR proteins. Expression analysis of SAUR genes using publicly available RNA-seq data from rice and soybean indicated functional similarity of members in the same clade, which was also further confirmed by qRT-PCR. Summarization of SAUR functions also showed that SAUR functions were usually consistent within a subclade. Conclusions: This study provides insights into the evolution and function of the SAUR gene family from bryophyta to anthophyta, particularly in Fabaceae plants. Future investigation to understand the functions of SAUR family members should employ a clade as the study unit.

Abstract:Background Auxin performs important functions in plant growth and development processes, as well as abiotic stress. Small auxin-up RNA ( SAUR ) is the largest gene family of auxin-responsive factors. However, the knowledge of the SAUR gene family in foxtail millet is largely obscure. Results In the current study, 72 SiSAUR genes were identified and renamed according to their chromosomal distribution in the foxtail millet genome. These SiSAUR genes were unevenly distributed on nine chromosomes and were classified into three groups through phylogenetic tree analysis. Most of the SiSAUR members from the same group showed similar gene structure and motif composition characteristics. Analysis of cis -acting elements showed that many hormone and stress response elements were identified in the promoter region of SiSAURs. Gene replication analysis revealed that many SiSAUR genes were derived from gene duplication events. We also found that the expression of 10 SiSAURs was induced by abiotic stress and exogenous hormones, which indicated that SiSAUR genes may participated in complex physiological processes. Conclusions Overall, these results will be valuable for further studies on the biological role of SAUR genes in foxtail development and response to stress conditions and may shed light on the improvement of the genetic breeding of foxtail millet.

Abstract:Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins play important roles in plant defense response to drought stress. However, genome-wide identification of the LEA gene family was not revealed in Salvia miltiorrhiza. In this study, 61 SmLEA genes were identified from S. miltiorrhiza and divided into 7 subfamilies according to their conserved domains and phylogenetic relationships. SmLEA genes contained the LEA conserved motifs and few introns. SmLEA genes of the same subfamilies had similar gene structures and predicted subcellular locations. Our results indicated that the promoters of SmLEA genes contained various cis-acting elements associated with abiotic stress response. In addition, RNA-seq and real-time PCR results suggested that SmLEA genes are specifically expressed in different tissue, and most SmLEA genes can be induced by drought stress. These results provide a valuable foundation for future functional investigations of SmLEA genes and drought stress-resistant breeding of S. miltiorrhiza.
Genome-wide analysis of SAUR gene family in Solanaceae species

Abstract:The plant hormone auxin plays a vital role in regulating many aspects of plant growth and development. Small auxin up-regulated RNAs (SAURs) are primary auxin response genes hypothesized to be involved in auxin signaling pathway, but their functions remain unclear. Here, a genome-wide search for SAUR gene homologues in Solanaceae species identified 99 and 134 members of SAUR gene family from tomato and potato, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the SAUR proteins from Arabidopsis, rice, sorghum, tomato and potato were divided into four major groups with 16 subgroups. Among them, 25 histidine-rich SAURs genes with metal-binding characteristics were found in Arabidopsis, sorghum and Solanaceae species, but not in rice. Identification and expression analysis of the small auxin-up RNA (SAUR) gene family in apple by inducing of auxin

Abstract:The small auxin-up RNA (SAUR) family plays a vital role in the regulation of plant growth and development. We identified 80 MdSAUR genes in this study. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the SAUR proteins from Arabidopsis, rice, and apple were divided into six groups. Of the 80 MdSAURs, 71 were randomly distributed along the 17 chromosomes, while the remaining genes were located along unassigned scafoolds. Among them, a comprehensive overview of SAUR gene family is presented, including gene structures, chromosome locations, duplication and selection pressure analyses, synteny and promoter analyses, and protein interaction. The expression profiles based on microarray data found that 80 genes showed increased expression levels in at least one tissue including seed, seedling, root, stem, leaf, flower, fruit 100daa, and harvested fruit. MdSAUR7 possibly regulate the development of flower organs, and MdSAUR15, MdSAUR24, and MdSAUR80 promote the growth of fruits by regulating cell division. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis indicated the expression levels of 79 MdSAUR genes in leaves under exogenous IAA treatment. MdSAUR4, MdSAUR22, MdSAUR37, MdSAUR38, MdSAUR49, and MdSAUR54 were up-regulated after IAA treatment compared with the control, indicating that they may play specific roles in the IAA signaling transduction pathway. This work provided a foundation for further investigations for the functional analyses of SAURs in apple.

Abstract:The auxin/indole-3-acetic acid (Aux/IAA) gene family serves as a principal group of genes responsible for modulating plant growth and development through the auxin signaling pathway. Despite the significance of this gene family, the identification and characterization of members within the well-known Chinese medicinal herb Salvia miltiorrhiza (S. miltiorrhiza) have not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, we employed bioinformatics methods to identify 23 Aux/IAA genes within the genome of S. miltiorrhiza. These genes were classified into typical IAA and atypical IAA based on their domain structure. Our analysis of the promoter regions revealed that the expression of these genes is regulated not only by auxins, but also by other hormones and environmental factors. Furthermore, we found that the expression patterns of these genes varied across various tissues of S. miltiorrhiza. While our initial hypothesis suggested that the primary function of these genes was the interaction between SmIAA and ARF, gene co-expression network analysis revealed that they are also influenced by various other transcription factors, such as WRKY and ERF. The findings establish a sturdy basis for future investigations into the function of the Aux/IAA gene family and exhibit promising prospects for enhancing the genetics of this medicinal flora and its associated species.

Abstract:Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) is well known for its rapid shoot growth. Auxin exerts pleiotropic effects on plant growth. The small auxin-up RNA (SAUR) genes are early auxin-responsive genes involved in plant growth. In total, 38 SAUR genes were identified in P. edulis (PheSAUR). A comprehensive overview of the PheSAUR gene family is presented, including the gene structures, phylogeny, and subcellular location predictions. A transcriptome analysis indicated that 37 (except PheSAUR18) of the PheSAUR genes were expressed during shoot growth process and that the PheSAUR genes were differentially expressed. Furthermore, quantitative real-time PCR analysis indicated that all of the PheSAUR genes could be induced in different tissues of seedlings and that 37 (except PheSAUR41) of the PheSAUR genes were up-regulated after indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) treatment. These results reveal a comprehensive overview of the PheSAUR gene family and may pave the way for deciphering their functions during bamboo development.

Abstract:In plants, CBL mediated calcium signaling is widely involved in the response to plant stresses of adversity. However, to date, no comprehensive studies have been conducted on CBL family members in Salvia miltiorrhiza . Herein, we identified 8 SmCBLs in S. miltiorrhiza , and phylogenetic analysis classified SmCBLs into four groups. Analysis of cis-acting elements revealed that SmCBLs mostly have light-responsive and hormone-responsive elements. Tissue expression analysis indicated that almost all of SmCBLs were expressed in roots than in leaves and flowers. SmCBL3 responded to Abscisic Acid (ABA), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and NaCl treatments. Transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana that overexpressed SmCBL3 had higher germination rates and longer roots than the wild type (WT) when exposed to salt stress. Additionally, the transgenic lines exhibited higher levels of chlorophyll, proline, superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) activity and SOS1 , NHX1 and P5CS1 expression than WT, and lower levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, SmCBL3 interacts with SmCIPK9. In conclusion, we analyzed the protein physicochemical properties, evolutionary relationships, gene structures, and expression profiles of the SmCBL gene families in S. miltiorrhiza . Overexpression of SmCBL3 improves the salt tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis. This study demonstrated that SmCBL3 is a positive regulator of plant salt tolerance, so the use of overexpressed SmCBL3 may serve as a potential strategy to enhance plant salt tolerance.

Abstract:SMALL AUXIN UP RNAs (SAURs), the largest family of early auxin response genes, plays crucial roles in multiple processes, including cell expansion, leaf growth and senescence, auxin transport, tropic growth and so on. Although the rice SAUR gene family was identified in 2006, it is necessary to identify the rice SAUR gene due to the imperfection of its analysis methods. In this study, a total of 60 OsSAURs (including two pseudogenes) distributed on 10 chromosomes were identified in rice (Oryza sativa). Bioinformatics tools were used to systematically analyze the physicochemical properties, subcellular localization, motif compositions, chromosomal location, gene duplication, evolutionary relationships, auxin-responsive cis-elements of the OsSAURs. In addition, the expression profiles obtained from microarray data analysis showed that OsSAUR genes had different expression patterns in different tissues and responded to auxin treatment, indicating functional differences among members of OsSAUR gene family. In a word, this study provides basic information for SAUR gene family of rice and lays a foundation for further study on the role of SAUR in rice growth and development.
