Abstract:A difficult question arising in the study of effect algebras is how to equip them with a fitting and proper topology such that the topology is compatible with the partial operations ⊕ and Θ. As we know, the Frink ideal topology is an important intrinsic topology for studying partially ordered set theory; in particular, it is the correct topology for chains and direct products of a finite number of chains. In this paper, we show that the Frink ideal topology is also a nice topology for studying effect-algebra theory since it provides the operations with some of the expected continuity properties.

Abstract:Let λ and μ be sequence spaces and have both the signed-weak gliding hump property, (λ, μ) the algebra of the infinite matrix operators which transform λ into μ. In this paper, it is proved that if λ and μ are β-spaces and λ β and μ β have also the signed-weak gliding hump property, then for any polar topology τ, ((λ, μ), τ) is always sequentially complete locally convex topological algebra.

Abstract:Through the subsequent discussion we consider a certain particular sort of (topological) algebras, which may substitute the `` structure sheaf algebras'' in many--in point of fact, in all--the situations of a geometrical character that occur, thus far, in several mathematical disciplines, as for instance, differential and/or algebraic geometry, complex (geometric) analysis etc. It is proved that at the basis of this type of algebras lies the sheaf-theoretic notion of (functional) localization, which, in the particular case of a given topological algebra, refers to the respective ``Gel'fand transform algebra'' over the spectrum of the initial algebra. As a result, one further considers the so-called ``geometric topological algebras'', having special cohomological properties, in terms of their ``Gel'fand sheaves'', being also of a particular significance for (abstract) differential-geometric applications; yet, the same class of algebras is still ``closed'', with respect to appropriate inductive limits, a fact which thus considerably broadens the sort of the topological algebras involved, hence, as we shall see, their potential applications as well.

Abstract:We show that if two tensor algebras of topological graphs are algebraically isomorphic, then the graphs are locally conjugate. Conversely, if the base space is at most one dimensional and the edge space is compact, then locally conjugate topological graphs yield completely isometrically isomorphic tensor algebras.

Abstract:In this article, we identify a suitable approach to define the character space of a commutative unital locally $C^{\ast}$-algebra via the notion of the inductive limit of topological spaces. Also, we discuss topological properties of the character space. We establish the Gelfand type representation between a commutative unital locally $C^{\ast}$-algebra and the space of all continuous functions defined on its character space. Equivalently, we prove that every commutative unital locally $C^{\ast}$-algebra is identified with the locally $C^{\ast}$-algebra of continuous functions on its character space through the coherent representation of projective limit of $C^{\ast}$-algebras. Finally, we construct a unital locally $C^{\ast}$-algebra generated by a given locally bounded normal operator and show that its character space is homeomorphic to the local spectrum. Further, we define the functional calculus and prove spectral mapping theorem in this framework.

Grothendieck topology of $C^*$-algebras

Abstract:For any topological space there is a sheaf cohomology. A Grothendieck topology is a generalization of the classical topology such that it also possesses a sheaf cohomology. On the other hand any noncommutative $C^*$-algebra is a generalization of a locally compact Hausdorff space. Here we define a Grothendieck topology arising from $C^*$-algebras which is a generalization of the topology of the spectra of commutative $C^*$-algebras. This construction yields a noncommutative generalization of the sheaf cohomology of topological spaces. The presented here theory gives a unified approach to the Gelfand duality and the duality between the commutative von Neumann algebras and measure locales. The generalization of the Dixmier-Douady theory concerning $C^*$-algebras of foliations is also discussed.

Abstract:We relate two different proposals to extend the étale topology into homotopy theory, namely via the notion of finite cover introduced by Mathew and via the notion of separable commutative algebra introduced by Balmer. We show that finite covers are precisely those separable commutative algebras with underlying dualizable module, which have a locally constant and finite degree function. We then use Galois theory to classify separable commutative algebras in numerous categories of interest. Examples include the category of modules over a connective $\mathbb{E}_\infty$-ring $R$ which is either connective or even periodic with $\pi_0(R)$ regular Noetherian in which $2$ acts invertibly, the stable module category of a finite group of $p$-rank one and the derived category of a qcqs scheme.

Abstract:Lie conformal algebras appear in the theory of vertex algebras. Their relation is similar to that of Lie algebras and their universal enveloping algebras. Associative conformal algebras play a role in conformal representation theory. We introduce the notions of conformal identity and unital associative conformal algebras and classify finitely generated simple unital associative conformal algebras of linear growth. These are precisely the complete algebras of conformal endomorphisms of finite modules.

Abstract:We introduce a set of axioms for locally topologically ordered quantum spin systems in terms of nets of local ground state projections, and we show they are satisfied by Kitaev's Toric Code and Levin-Wen type models. Then for a locally topologically ordered spin system on $\mathbb{Z}^{k}$, we define a local net of boundary algebras on $\mathbb{Z}^{k-1}$, which gives a new operator algebraic framework for studying topological spin systems. We construct a canonical quantum channel so that states on the boundary quasi-local algebra parameterize bulk-boundary states without reference to a boundary Hamiltonian. As a corollary, we obtain a new proof of a recent result of Ogata [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2212.09036" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.09036">arXiv:2212.09036</a>] that the bulk cone von Neumann algebra in the Toric Code is of type $\rm{II}$, and we show that Levin-Wen models can have cone algebras of type $\rm{III}$. Finally, we argue that the braided tensor category of DHR bimodules for the net of boundary algebras characterizes the bulk topological order in (2+1)D, and can also be used to characterize the topological order of boundary states.

Abstract:We introduce invertible subalgebras of local operator algebras on lattices. An invertible subalgebra is defined to be one such that every local operator can be locally expressed by elements of the inveritible subalgebra and those of the commutant. On a two-dimensional lattice, an invertible subalgebra hosts a chiral anyon theory by a commuting Hamiltonian, which is believed not to be possible on any full local operator algebra. We prove that the stable equivalence classes of $\mathsf d$-dimensional invertible subalgebras form an abelian group under tensor product, isomorphic to the group of all $\mathsf d + 1$ dimensional QCA modulo blending equivalence and shifts. In an appendix, we consider a metric on the group of all QCA on infinite lattices and prove that the metric completion contains the time evolution by local Hamiltonians, which is only approximately locality-preserving. Our metric topology is strictly finer than the strong topology.

Abstract:C*-algebras are widely used in mathematical physics to represent the observables of physical systems, and are sometimes taken as the starting point for rigorous formulations of quantum mechanics and classical statistical mechanics. Nevertheless, in many cases the naive choice of an algebra of observables does not admit a C*-algebra structure, and some massaging is necessary. In this paper we investigate what properties of C*-algebras carry over to more general algebras and what modifications of the Gelfand theory of normed algebras are necessary. We use category theory as a guide and, by replacing the ordinary definition of the Gelfand spectrum with a manifestly functorial definition, we succeed in generalizing the Gelfand-Naimark theorem to locally convex *-algebras. We also recall a little-known but potentially very useful generalization of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem to completely regular, Hausdorff spaces.

Abstract:We define the notions of unital/counital/biunital infinitesimal anti-symmetric bialgebras and coFrobenius bialgebras and discuss their algebraic properties. We also define the notion of a graded 2D open-closed TQFT. These structures arise in Rabinowitz Floer homology, loop space homology, quantum homology, and the homology of finite dimensional manifolds. The underlying vector spaces, which are typically infinite dimensional, belong to a class of topological vector spaces known as Tate vector spaces.

Gelfand-Tsetlin modules in the Coulomb context

Abstract:This paper gives a new perspective on the theory of principal Galois orders, as developed by Futorny, Ovsienko, Hartwig, and others. Every principal Galois order can be written as $eFe$ for any idempotent $e$ in an algebra $F$, which we call a flag Galois order; and in most important cases we can assume that these algebras are Morita equivalent. These algebras have the property that the completed algebra controlling the fiber over a maximal ideal has the same form as a subalgebra in a skew group ring, which gives a new perspective to a number of results about these algebras. We also discuss how this approach relates to the study of Coulomb branches in the sense of Braverman-Finkelberg-Nakajima, which are particularly beautiful examples of principal Galois orders. These include most of the interesting examples of principal Galois orders, such as $U(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$. In this case, all the objects discussed have a geometric interpretation, which endows the category of Gelfand-Tsetlin modules with a graded lift and allows us to interpret the classes of simple Gelfand-Tsetlin modules in terms of dual canonical bases for the Grothendieck group. In particular, we classify the Gelfand-Tsetlin modules over $U(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ and relate their characters to a generalization of Leclerc's shuffle expansion for dual canonical basis vectors. Finally, as an application, we disprove a conjecture of Mazorchuk, showing that the fiber over a maximal ideal of the Gelfand-Tsetlin subalgebra appearing in a finite-dimensional representation has an infinite-dimensional module in its fiber for $n\geq 6$.

A theory of locally convex Hopf algebras

Abstract:Using the completed inductive, projective and injective tensor products of Grothendieck for locally convex topological vector spaces, we develop a systematic theory of locally convex Hopf algebras with an emphasis on Pontryagin-type dualities. We describe how classical Hopf algebras, real and complex Lie groups, as well as compact and discrete quantum groups, can all give rise to natural examples of this theory in a variety of different ways. We also show that the space of all continuous functions on a topological group $ G $ whose topological structures are compactly generated has an $ \varepsilon $-Hopf algebra structure, and we can recover $ G $ fully as a topological group from this locally convex Hopf algebra. The latter is done via a generalization of Gelfand duality, which is of its own interest. Certain projective and inductive limits are also considered in this framework, and it is shown that how this can lead to examples seemingly outside of the framework of locally compact quantum groups in the sense of Kustermans-Vaes. As an illustration, we propose a version of the infinite quantum permutation group $ S^{+}_{\infty} $, the free orthogonal group $ O^{+}_{\infty} $, and the free unitary group $ U^{+}_{\infty} $ as certain strict inductive limits, all of which still retain a nice duality. Combined with our duality theory, this may be seen as an alternative tentative approach to the Kac program of developing a Pontryagin-type duality to a wider class, while at the same time, we include many more interesting examples of classical and quantum groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we initiate the study of the Givental group action on Cohomological Field Theories in terms of homotopical algebra. More precisely, we show that the stabilisers of Topological Field Theories in genus 0 (respectively in genera 0 and 1) are in one-to-one correspondence with commutative homotopy Batalin--Vilkovisky algebras (respectively wheeled commutative homotopy BV-algebras).

Hindman's finite sums theorem and its application to topologizations of algebras

Abstract:The first part of the paper is a brief overview of Hindman's finite sums theorem, its prehistory and a few of its further generalizations, and a modern technique used in proving these and similar results, which is based on idempotent ultrafilters in ultrafilter extensions of semigroups. The second, main part of the paper is devoted to the topologizability problem of a wide class of algebraic structures called polyrings; this class includes Abelian groups, rings, modules, algebras over a ring, differential rings, and others. We show that the Zariski topology of such an algebra is always non-discrete. Actually, a much stronger fact holds: if $K$ is an infinite polyring, $n$ a natural number, and a map $F$ of $K^n$ into $K$ is defined by a term in $n$ variables, then $F$ is a closed nowhere dense subset of the space $K^{n+1}$ with its Zariski topology. In particular, $K^n$ is a closed nowhere dense subset of $K^{n+1}$. The proof essentially uses a multidimensional version of Hindman's finite sums theorem established by Bergelson and Hindman. The third part of the paper lists several problems concerning topologization of various algebraic structures, their Zariski topologies, and related questions.

A bialgebra theory of Gel'fand-Dorfman algebras with applications to Lie conformal bialgebras

Abstract:Gel'fand-Dorfman algebras (GD algebras) give a natural construction of Lie conformal algebras and are in turn characterized by this construction. In this paper, we define the Gel'fand-Dorfman bialgebra (GD bialgebras) and enrich the above construction to a construction of Lie conformal bialgebras by GD bialgebras. As a special case, Novikov bialgebras yield Lie conformal bialgebras. We further introduce the notion of the Gel'fand-Dorfman Yang-Baxter equation (GDYBE), whose skew-symmetric solutions produce GD bialgebras. Moreover, the notions of $\mathcal{O}$-operators on GD algebras and pre-Gel'fand-Dorfman algebras (pre-GD algebras) are introduced to provide skew-symmetric solutions of the GDYBE. The relationships between these notions for GD algebras and the corresponding ones for Lie conformal algebras are given. In particular, there is a natural construction of Lie conformal bialgebras from pre-GD algebras. Finally, GD bialgebras are characterized by certain matched pairs and Manin triples of GD algebras.
