Abstract:In this article, we provide an application of hypergeometric evaluation identities, including a strange valuation of Gosper, to prove several supercongruences related to special valuations of truncated hypergeometric series. In particular, we prove a conjecture of van Hamme.

Abstract:In a series of letters to D.Stanton, R.W.Gosper presented many strange evaluations of hypergeometric series. Recently, we rediscovered one of the strange hypergeometric identities appearing in [Go]. In this paper, we prove this identity and derive its generalization using contiguity operators. Abstract:In this paper, we mainly establish two supercongruences involving truncated hypergeometric series by using some hypergeometric transformation formulas. The first supercongruence confirms a recent conjecture of the second author. The second supercongruence confirms a conjecture of Guo, Liu and Schlosser partially, and gives a parametric extension of a supercongruence of Long and Ramakrishna.

Abstract:In terms of several summation and transformation formulas for basic hypergeometric series, two forms of the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials, the creative microscoping method introduced by Guo and Zudilin, Guo and Li's lemma, and El Bachraoui's lemma, we establish some $q$-supercongruences for multiple basic hypergeometric series modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial. In detail, we generalize Guo and Li's two $q$-supercongruences for double basic hypergeometric series, which are related to $q$-analogues of Van Hamme's (C.2) supercongruence and Long's supercongruence, respectively. In addition, we also present two conclusions for double and triple hypergeometric series associated with Van Hamme's (D.2) supercongruence.

Abstract:Recently, Chan, Cooper and Sica conjectured two congruences for coefficients of classical 2F1 hypergeometric series which also arise from power series expansions of modular forms in terms of modular functions. We prove these two congruences using combinatorial properties of the coefficients.

Abstract:By employing a quadratic summation formula due to Gasper and Rahman [Basic hypergeometric series, 2nd ed, vol. 96, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2004] and the creative microscoping method developed by Guo and Zudilin [Adv. Math. 346 (2019), pp. 329–358], we establish some new parametric q q -supercongruences, the corresponding supercongruences of which can be deemed the variants of Van Hamme's (J.2) and (L.2) supercongruences. Moreover, we obtain three families of Ramanujan-type formulas on π \pi and propose a challenging conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove two supercongruences conjectured by Z.-W. Sun via the Wilf-Zeilberger method. One of them is, for any prime $p>3$, \begin{align*} \sum_{n=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{6n+1}{(-512)^n}\binom{2n}n^3&\equiv p\left(\frac{-2}p\right)+\frac{p^3}4\left(\frac2p\right)E_{p-3}\pmod{p^4}, \end{align*} where $\left(\frac{\cdot}p\right)$ stands for the Legendre symbol, and $E_{n}$ is the $n$-th Euler number.

Abstract:Let p > 3 be a prime. A p -adic congruence is called a super congruence if it happens to hold modulo some higher power of p . The topic of super congruences is related to many fields including Gauss and Jacobi sums and hypergeometric series. We prove that ∑_k = 0^p - 1( _k^2k)/2^k ≡( - 1)^( p - 1)/ . - 2 - p^2 E_p - 3( p^3 ), ∑_k = 1^( p - 1)/ . - 2( _k^2k)/k≡( - 1)^( p + 1)/ . - 28/3pE_p - 3( p^2 ), ∑_k = 0^( p - 1)/ . - 2( _k^2k)^2 /16^k ≡( - 1)^( p - 1)/ . - 2 + p^2 E_p - 3( p^3 ), where E 0 , E 1 , E 2 , ... are Euler numbers. Our new approach is of combinatorial nature. We also formulate many conjectures concerning super congruences and relate most of them to Euler numbers or Bernoulli numbers. Motivated by our investigation of super congruences, we also raise a conjecture on 7 new series for π 2 , π −2 and the constant K: = ∑_k = 1^∞( k3)/ . -k^2 (with (−) the Jacobi symbol), two of which are ∑_k = 1^∞( 10k - 3)8^k /k^3 ( _k^2k)^2 ( _k^3k) = π ^2 /2 and ∑_k = 1^∞( 15k - 4)( - 27)^k - 1/k^3 ( _k^2k)^2 ( _k^3k) = K.

Abstract:We give some new $q$-supercongruences on truncated forms of squares of basic hypergeometric series. Most of them are modulo the cube of a cyclotomic polynomial, and two of them are modulo the fourth power of a cyclotomic polynomial. The main ingredients of our proofs are the creative microscoping method, a lemma of El Bachraoui, and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials. We also propose several related conjectures for further study.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove several supercongruences conjectured by Z.-W. Sun ten years ago via certain strange hypergeometric identities. For example, for any prime p>3, we show that∑k=0p−1(4k2k+1)(2kk)48k≡0(modp2), and∑k=0p−1(2kk)(3kk)24k≡{((2p−2)/3(p−1)/3)(modp2)ifp≡1(mod3),p/((2p+2)/3(p+1)/3)(modp2)ifp≡2(mod3). We also obtain some other results of such types.

Abstract:In 2017, He [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 145 (2017), 501--508] established two spuercongruences on truncated hypergeometric series and further proposed two related conjectures. Subsequently, Liu [Results Math. 72 (2017), 2057--2066] extended He's formulas and confirmed the second conjecture. However, the first conjecture is still open up to now. With the help of the creative microscoping method and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials, we derive several $q$-supercongruences modulo the fourth and fifth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial from Gasper and Rahman's summation formula for basic hypergeometric series. As conclusions, He's first conjecture is confirmed and a more general form of He's second conjecture is proved.

Abstract:We give a definition of generalized hypergeometric functions over finite fields using modified Gauss sums, which enables us to find clear analogy with classical hypergeometric functions over the complex numbers. We study their fundamental properties and prove summation formulas, transformation formulas and product formulas. An application to zeta functions of K3-surfaces is given. In the appendix, we give an elementary proof of the Davenport-Hasse multiplication formula for Gauss sums.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. In the paper, by using the properties of Legendre polynomials we prove some congruences for $\sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}2}\binom{2k}k^2m^{-k}\mod {p^2}$. In particular, we confirm several conjectures of Z.W. Sun. We also pose 13 conjectures on supercongruences.

Abstract:We prove two single-parameter q -supercongruences which were recently conjectured by Guo, and establish their further extensions with one more parameter. Crucial ingredients in the proof are the terminating form of the q -binomial theorem, a Karlsson‚ÄďMinton-type summation formula due to Gasper, and the method of "creative microscoping" developed by Guo and Zudilin. Incidentally, an assertion of Li, Tang and Wang is also confirmed by establishing its q -analogue.
