Abstract:In this paper we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for $ R=A\propto E $ to be a valuation ring where $E$ is a non-torsion or finitely generated $A-$module. Also, we investigate the $ (n,d) $ property of the valuation ring.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be an integral domain and [math] be a nonempty (either finite or infinite) set of indeterminates over [math]. There are three types of power series rings in the set [math] over [math], denoted by [math], [math], respectively. In general, [math] and the two containments can be strict. In this paper, we show that if [math] is a rank one valuation domain with valuation [math], then [math] defined by [math] is a valuation on [math]. Moreover, [math] is a prime ideal of [math] and [math] is the valuation domain associated with [math]. We also show that, for [math], if [math] is a valuation domain, then both [math] and [math] are DVRs. Our results generalize those by Arnold and Brewer in which [math] has a single indeterminate. In proving the results, we show that for each [math], [math] is completely integrally closed if and only if [math] is completely integrally closed.

Abstract:The behavior of the Frobenius map is investigated for valuation rings of prime characteristic. We show that valuation rings are always F-pure. We introduce a generalization of the notion of strong F-regularity, which we call F-pure regularity, and show that a valuation ring is F-pure regular if and only if it is Noetherian. For valuations on function fields, we show that the Frobenius map is finite if and only if the valuation is divisorial; in this case the valuation ring is Frobenius split. For Noetherian valuation rings in function fields, we show that the valuation ring is Frobenius split if and only if Frobenius is finite, or equivalently, if and only if the valuation ring is excellent.

Abstract:Suppose $F$ is a field with valuation $v$ and valuation ring $O_{v}$, $E$ is a finite field extension and $w$ is a quasi-valuation on $E$ extending $v$. We study quasi-valuations on $E$ that extend $v$; in particular, their corresponding rings and their prime spectrums. We prove that these ring extensions satisfy INC (incomparability), LO (lying over), and GD (going down) over $O_{v}$; in particular, they have the same Krull Dimension. We also prove that every such quasi-valuation is dominated by some valuation extending $v$. Under the assumption that the value monoid of the quasi-valuation is a group we prove that these ring extensions satisfy GU (going up) over $O_{v}$, and a bound on the size of the prime spectrum is given. In addition, a 1:1 correspondence is obtained between exponential quasi-valuations and integrally closed quasi-valuation rings. Given $R$, an algebra over $O_{v}$, we construct a quasi-valuation on $R$; we also construct a quasi-valuation on $R \otimes_{O_{v}} F$ which helps us prove our main Theorem. The main Theorem states that if $R \subseteq E$ satisfies $R \cap F=O_{v}$ and $E$ is the field of fractions of $R$, then $R$ and $v$ induce a quasi-valuation $w$ on $E$ such that $R=O_{w}$ and $w$ extends $v$; thus $R$ satisfies the properties of a quasi-valuation ring.

Abstract:Let R be a valuation ring and let Q be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if Q is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of R is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if R is self-injective. Moreover, R is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a valuation ring with non-zero zero-divisors to be strongly coherent or π-coherent.A complete characterization of semihereditary commutative rings which are π-coherent is given. When R is a commutative ring with a self-FP-injective quotient ring Q, it is proved that each flat R-module is finitely projective if and only if Q is perfect.

Abstract:A finite abelian $p$-group having an automorphism $x$ such that $1+\ldots+x^{p-1}=0$, can be viewed as a module over an appropriate discrete valuation ring $\mathcal{O}$ containing $\mathbb{Z}_p$ (the ring of $p$-adic integer). This yields the natural problem of comparing the invariants of $A$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-module to its invariants as an $\mathcal{O}$-module. We solve the latter problem in a more general context, and give some applications to the structure of some $p$-groups and their automorphisms.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize ordinary derivation and Jordan derivation of a ring to the concepts of P-derivation and P-Jordan derivation of a ring respectively. Some properties, e.g. the composition of P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, are given. Moreover, it proved that if R/P(R) is 2-torsion free for a ring R and its prime radical P(R), P-Jordan derivations of R are P-derivations. More mainly, some conclusions on the commutativity of R/I and R/P(R) are obtained via P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, for a prime ideal I of R.

Abstract:The main scope of this paper is to introduce valuation semirings in general and discrete valuation semirings in particular. In order to do that, first we define valuation maps and investigate them. Then we define valuation semirings with the help of valuation maps and prove that a multiplicatively cancellative semiring is a valuation semiring if and only if its ideals are totally ordered by inclusion. We also prove that if the unique maximal ideal of a valuation semiring is subtractive, then it is integrally closed. We end this paper by introducing discrete valuation semirings and show that a semiring is a discrete valuation semiring if and only if it is a multiplicatively cancellative principal ideal semiring possessing a nonzero unique maximal ideal. We also prove that a discrete valuation semiring is a Gaussian semiring if and only if its unique maximal ideal is subtractive.

Abstract:Let (R,m) be a regular local ring of dimension at least 2. For each valuation domain birationally dominating R, there is an associated sequence {Rn} of local quadratic transforms of R. We consider the case where this sequence {Rn}n≥0 is infinite and examine properties of the integrally closed local domain S=⋃n≥0Rn in the case where S is not a valuation domain. For this sequence, there is an associated boundary valuation ring V=⋃n≥0⋂i≥nVi, where Vi is the order valuation ring of Ri. There exists a unique minimal proper Noetherian overring T of S. T is the regular Noetherian UFD obtained by localizing outside the maximal ideal of S and S=V∩T. In the present paper, we define functions w and e, where w is the asymptotic limit of the order valuations and e is the limit of the orders of transforms of principal ideals. We describe V explicitly in terms of w and e and prove that V is either rank 1 or rank 2. We define an invariant τ associated to S that is either a positive real number or +∞. If τ is finite, then S is archimedean and T is not local. In this case, the function w defines the rank 1 valuation overring W of V and W dominates S. The rational dependence of τ over w(T×) determines whether S is completely integrally closed and whether V has rank 1. We give examples where S is completely integrally closed. If τ is infinite, then S is non-archimedean and T is local. In this case, the function e defines the rank 1 valuation overring E of V. The valuation ring E is a DVR and E dominates T, and in certain cases we prove that E is the order valuation ring of T.

Abstract:Let $D\subseteq B$ be an extension of integral domains and $E$ a subset of the quotient field of $D$. We introduce the ring of \textit{$D$-valued $B$-rational functions on $E$}, denoted by $Int^R_B(E,D)$, which naturally extends the concepts of integer-valued polynomials, defined as $ Int^R_B(E,D) \:=\lbrace f \in B(X);\; f(E)\subseteq D\rbrace.$ The notion of $Int^R_B(E,D)$ boils down to the usual notion of integer-valued rational functions when the subset $E$ is infinite. In this paper, we aim to investigate various properties of these rings, such as prime ideals, localization, and the module structure. Furthermore, we study the transfer of some ring-theoretic properties from $Int^R(E,D)$ to $D$.

Upper Ramification Groups for Arbitrary Valuation Rings

Abstract:T. Saito established a ramification theory for ring extensions locally of complete intersection. We show that for a Henselian valuation ring $A$ with field of fractions $K$ and for a finite Galois extension $L$ of $K$, the integral closure $B$ of $A$ in $L$ is a filtered union of subrings of $B$ which are of complete intersection over $A$. By this, we can obtain a ramification theory of Henselian valuation rings as the limit of the ramification theory of Saito. Our theory generalizes the ramification theory of complete discrete valuation rings of Abbes-Saito. We study "defect extensions" which are not treated in these previous works.

A Universal Property of the Spectrum of a Ring and the Semiring of its Ideals

Abstract:Arithmetic valuations are intimately connected with the structure of the ideals of a commutative ring. We show how the generalized idempotent semiring valuations of Jeffrey and Noah Giansiracusa can be used to make this connection explicit. Through this generalized valuation theory sufficiently complete positive valuations give rise to Galois correspondences with the lattice of ideals of a commutative ring. Up to isomorphism the semiring of ideals of a commutative ring can be defined as a universal factoring semiring for positive valuations. We then further show that this valuation theory can formally connect Joyal's \textit{notion de zéros} and universal property of the spectrum of a ring to arithmetic valuation theory. We show that up to isomorphism as a coframe, the closed Zariski topology on a spectrum of a commutative ring can be defined as the universal factoring semiring of additively and multiplicatively idempotent valuations.

Abstract:An integral domain $D$ is a valuation ideal factorization domain (VIFD) if each nonzero principal ideal of $D$ can be written as a finite product of valuation ideals. Clearly, $\pi$-domains are VIFDs. In this paper, we study the ring-theoretic properties of VIFDs and the $*$-operation analogs of VIFDs. Among them, we show that if $D$ is treed (resp., $*$-treed), then $D$ is a VIFD (resp., $*$-VIFD) if and only if $D$ is an ${\rm h}$-local Prüfer domain (resp., a $*$-${\rm h}$-local P$*$MD) if and only if every nonzero prime ideal of $D$ contains an invertible (resp., a $*$-invertible) valuation ideal. We also study integral domains $D$ such that for each nonzero nonunit $a\in D$, there is a positive integer $n$ such that $a^n$ can be written as a finite product of valuation elements.

We define [math] to be an [math]-valuation domain if for each nonzero [math], there exists an element [math] such that [math] divides [math] or [math] divides [math]. Among other things, we show that [math] is an [math]-valuation domain if and only if [math] is a valuation domain. By using this result, we give several valuation-like properties.

Abstract:We give a characterization, in terms of the residue field, of those henselian valuation rings and those henselian valuation ideals that are diophantine. This characterization gives a common generalization of all the positive and negative results on diophantine henselian valuation rings and diophantine valuation ideals in the literature. We also treat questions of uniformity and we apply the results to show that a given field can carry at most one diophantine nontrivial equicharacteristic henselian valuation ring or valuation ideal.

We employ the theory developed to define and study differential Galois groups of $\mathcal D$-modules on a scheme over a $R$. This throws light on how differential Galois groups of families degenerate.

Abstract:We develop the notion of deformations using a valuation ring as ring of coefficients. This permits to consider in particular the classical Gerstenhaber deformations of associative or Lie algebras as infinitesimal deformations and to solve the equation of deformations in a polynomial frame. We consider also the deformations of the enveloping algebra of a rigid Lie algebra and we define valued deformations for some classes of non associative algebras.

Abstract:The main goal of this paper is to characterize the module of Kähler differentials for an extension of valuation rings. More precisely, we consider a simple algebraic valued field extension $(L/K,v)$ and the corresponding valuation rings $\VR_L$ and $\VR_K$. In the case when $e(L/K,v)=1$ we present a characterization for $\Omega_{\VR_L/\VR_K}$ in terms of a given sequence of key polynomials for the extension. Moreover, we use our main result to present a characterization for when $\Omega_{\VR_L/\VR_K}=\{0\}$.

Abstract:In the first part of the paper, we provide a fairly complete description of a 2-torsion free simple ring R with involution f such that the skew traces relative to f of all elements of R form a commutative subset. In the remaining part, the results carried out earlier are put to work to delineate the structure of a simple Artinian ring R with involution f, which is equipped with a given non central submonoid M (= multiplicatively closed subset containing 1) preserved under f and under all inner automorphisms of R, and M is such that the skew traces of all elements of M form a commutative subset.
