Abstract:Directed flow $v_1$, observable introduced for description of nucleus collisions is discussed. We consider a possible origin of the flow in hadronic reactions as a result of rotation of the transient matter and trace analogy with nucleus collisions. It is argued that the presence of directed flow can serve as a signal that transient matter is in a liquid state.

Abstract:The integration of different learning and adaptation techniques to overcome individual limitations and to achieve synergetic effects through the hybridization or fusion of these techniques has, in recent years, contributed to a large number of new intelligent system designs. Computational intelligence is an innovative framework for constructing intelligent hybrid architectures involving Neural Networks (NN), Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS), Probabilistic Reasoning (PR) and derivative free optimization techniques such as Evolutionary Computation (EC). Most of these hybridization approaches, however, follow an ad hoc design methodology, justified by success in certain application domains. Due to the lack of a common framework it often remains difficult to compare the various hybrid systems conceptually and to evaluate their performance comparatively. This chapter introduces the different generic architectures for integrating intelligent systems. The designing aspects and perspectives of different hybrid archirectures like NN-FIS, EC-FIS, EC-NN, FIS-PR and NN-FIS-EC systems are presented. Some conclusions are also provided towards the end.

Directed flow in an extended multiphase transport model

Abstract:We have studied the rapidity-odd directed flow in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions in the beam energy range from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 to 39 GeV within the framework of an extended multiphase transport model with both partonic and hadronic mean-field potentials incorporated. Effects of the partonic scatterings, mean-field potentials, hadronization, and hadronic evolution on the directed flow are investigated, and it is found that the final directed flow is mostly sensitive to the partonic scatterings and the hadronization mechanism. Our study shows that a negative slope of the proton directed flow does not necessarily need the equation of state with a first-order phase transition.

Abstract:Recent data from the NA49 experiment on directed and elliptic flow for Pb+Pb reactions at CERN-SPS are compared to calculations with a hadron-string transport model, the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model. The rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the directed and elliptic flow, i.e., ${v}_{1}$ and ${v}_{2}$, are investigated. The flow results are compared to data at three different centrality bins. Generally, a reasonable agreement between the data and the calculations is found. Furthermore, the energy excitation functions of ${v}_{1}$ and ${v}_{2}$ from ${E}_{\mathrm{beam}}=90A$ MeV to ${E}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}=200A$ GeV are explored within the UrQMD framework and discussed in the context of the available data. It is found that, in the energy regime below ${E}_{\mathrm{beam}}\ensuremath{\leqslant}10A$ GeV, the inclusion of nuclear potentials is necessary to describe the data. Above $40A$ GeV beam energy, the UrQMD model starts to underestimate the elliptic flow. Around the same energy the slope of the rapidity spectra of the proton directed flow develops negative values. This effect is known as the third flow component (``antiflow'') and cannot be reproduced by the transport model. These differences can possibly be explained by assuming a phase transition from hadron gas to quark gluon plasma at about $40A$ GeV.

Abstract:The well-known treatment of asymptotically flat vacuum fields is adapted to pure radiation fields. In this approach we find a natural normalization of the radiation null vector. The energy balance at null infinity shows that the mass loss results from a linear superposition of the pure and the gravitational radiation parts. By transformation to Bondi-Sachs coordinates the Kinnersley photon rocket is found to be the only axisymmetric Robinson-Trautman pure radiation solution without gravitational radiation.

Revisit of directed flow in relativistic heavy-ion collisions from a multiphase transport model

Abstract:We have revisited several interesting questions on how the rapidity-odd directed flow is developed in relativistic $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 and 39 GeV based on a multiphase transport model. As the partonic phase evolves with time, the slope of the parton directed flow at midrapidity region changes from negative to positive as a result of the later dynamics at 200 GeV, while it remains negative at 39 GeV due to the shorter life time of the partonic phase. The directed flow splitting for various quark species due to their different initial eccentricities is observed at 39 GeV, while the splitting is very small at 200 GeV. From a dynamical coalescence algorithm with Wigner functions, we found that the directed flow of hadrons is a result of competition between the coalescence in momentum and coordinate space as well as further modifications by the hadronic rescatterings.

Flow fluctuations and kinetic freeze-out of identified hadrons at energies available at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron

Abstract:We investigate the effect of flow fluctuations, incorporated in non boost-invariant blast-wave model, on kinetic freeze-out parameters of identified hadrons in low energy relativistic heavy-ion collisions. For the purpose of this study, we use the transverse momentum spectra of the identified hadrons produced in central Pb--Pb collisions, at SPS energies ranging from $\rm E_{Lab}=20A-158A $ GeV, and analyze them within a modified non boost-invariant blast wave model. We perform simultaneous fits of the transverse momentum spectra for light hadrons ($\pi^{-}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$) and heavy strange hadrons ($\Lambda$, $\bar{\Lambda}$, $\phi$, $\Xi^{\pm}$, $\Omega^{\pm}$) seperately. We also fit the transverse momentum spectra of charmonia ($J/\Psi$, $\Psi'$) at $\rm E_{Lab}=158A $ GeV. Our findings suggest that the inclusion of flow fluctuations enhances kinetic freeze-out temperature in case of light and heavy strange hadrons and reduces the corresponding transverse flow velocities. Moreover, we find that the kinetic freeze-out parameters of the charmonia at $\rm E_{Lab}=158A $ GeV are least affected by inclusion of flow fluctuations. Based on this, we make predictions which can provide further insights on the role of flow fluctuations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Interquark potential, susceptibilities and particle density of two color QCD at finite chemical potential and temperature

Abstract:We explore the phase diagram of SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory with dynamical fermions in the temperature, mass, chemical potential space. We observe qualitative changes of the dependence of the particle density on $\mu$ and $T$, which is compatible with that expected of a gas of free massless quarks $n \propto \mu^3$ only for $T \simeq T_c$. At the onset for thermodynamics the interquark potential flattens at large separations, indicating enhanced fermion screening and the transition to a deconfined phase. Temporal and spatial Polyakov loops behave in different ways, the latter being nearly insensitive to the chemical potential. The rotation of the chiral condensate to a baryonic condensate, as inferred from the susceptibilities, might occur together with a reduction of its magnitude in the chiral limit, possibly leading to a critical temperature for diquark condensation smaller than the deconfinement temperature. We further asses the rôle of the chemical potential into the gauge dynamics by carrying out a partial quenched calculation. We speculate on the relevance, or lack thereof, of our findings to real QCD.

New measures of longitudinal decorrelation of harmonic flow

Abstract:Harmonic flow in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is observed in a broad range of rapidities, and the flow at different rapidities is correlated. However, fluctuations lead to a small decorrelation of the harmonic flow magnitudes and flow angles at different rapidities. Using a hydrodynamic model with Glauber Monte Carlo initial conditions we show that the flow angle decorrelation strongly depends on the flow magnitude in the event. We propose observables to measure this effect in experiment.

Abstract:We study the origin of the directed flow of charged particles produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Three different initial conditions, Bozėk-Wyskiel, CCNU, and Shen-Alzhrani, of energy density distributions are coupled to the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model CLVisc, and their effects on the development of the anisotropic medium geometry, pressure gradient, and radial flow are systematically compared. By comparison to experimental data at both the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider, we find that the directed flow provides a unique constraint on the tilt of the initial medium profile in the plane spanned by the impact parameter and space-time rapidity. Within midrapidity, the counterclockwise tilt is shown to be a crucial source of the positive-negative force by the pressure gradient along the impact parameter (x) direction at backward-forward rapidity, which drives a negative slope of the x component of the medium flow velocity with respect to rapidity, and in the end the same feature of the charged particle directed flow.

Abstract:We argue that the traditional event-plane method, which is still widely used to analyze anisotropic flow in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, should be abandoned because flow fluctuations introduce an uncontrolled bias in the measurement. Instead, one should use an alternative, such as the scalar-product method or cumulant method, which always measures an unambiguous property of the underlying anisotropic flow and therefore eliminates this bias, and does so without any disadvantages. It is known that this correction is important for precision comparisons of traditional vn measurements requiring better than a few-percent accuracy. However, we show that it is absolutely essential for correlations between different harmonics, such as those that have been recently measured by the ATLAS Collaboration, which can differ from the nominally measured quantity by a factor two or more. We also describe how, using the corrected analysis method, the information from different subevents can be combined in order to optimize the precision of analyses.

Abstract:The dilepton radial flow in Au+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV is investigated. The space–time evolution of the fireball is described by a 2+1 dimensional ideal hydrodynamics with a variety of equations of state. The slope parameters of the transverse momentum spectra from the partonic and hadronic phases show distinct features and are sensitive to equation of state parameters. The elliptic flow and breaking of MT scaling are also studied and have distinct features for the two phases. These features can serve as clean signals for the formation of a quark–gluon plasma in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions.
Distinguishing the sources of dielectron anisotropic flow at low beam energies

Abstract:We present calculations of dielectron anisotropic flow in heavy-ion collisions at HADES beam energies from a hadronic transport approach. The ongoing experimental analysis employs the traditional reaction plane method to evaluate the flow coefficients $v_n$ and claims to see isotropic radiation from the thermal quark-gluon plasma. We show in this work, that in the region above the pion mass, the dilepton flow measurement might suffer from cancellation effects that mask the complicated underlying dynamics. Contributions from different baryonic and mesonic resonances show collective behaviour with different signs and lead to an overall vanishing elliptic flow. To differentiate the different contributions, we propose to employ the scalar product method, which exploits the previously measured hadronic flow to create different reference planes. As a proof of concept, we calculate the $v_2$ of dielectrons for Ag+Ag collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.55$ $\mathrm{GeV}$ with both methods and investigate the contribution of each source, concluding that the scalar product method provides the proton and pion tagged flow coefficients as two distinct measurements, disentangling the various dilepton sources.

Probing initial baryon stopping and equation of state with rapidity-dependent directed flow of identified particles

Abstract:Using a (3+1)-dimensional hybrid framework with parametric initial conditions, we study the rapidity-dependent directed flow $v_1(y)$ of identified particles, including pions, kaons, protons, and lambdas in heavy-ion collisions. Cases involving Au+Au collisions are considered, performed at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ ranging from 7.7 to 200 GeV. The dynamics in the beam direction is constrained using the measured pseudo-rapidity distribution of charged particles and the net proton rapidity distribution. Within this framework, the directed flow of mesons is driven by the sideward pressure gradient from the tilted source, and that of baryons mainly due to the initial asymmetric baryon distribution with respect to the beam axis driven by the transverse expansion. Our approach successfully reproduces the rapidity- and beam energy-dependence of $v_1$ for both mesons and baryons. We find that the $v_1(y)$ of baryons has strong constraining power on the initial baryon stopping, and together with that of mesons, the directed flow probes the equation of state of the dense nuclear matter at finite chemical potentials.

Anisotropic transverse flow and the quark-hadron phase transition

Abstract:We use (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics with exact longitudinal boost-invariance to study the influence of collision centrality and initial energy density on the transverse flow pattern and the angular distributions of particles emitted near midrapidity in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We concentrate on radial flow and the elliptic flow coefficient v2 as functions of the impact parameter and of the collision energy. We demonstrate that the finally observed elliptic flow is established earlier in the collision than the observed radial flow and thus probes the equation of state at higher energy densities. We point out that a phase transition from hadronic matter to a color-deconfined quark-gluon plasma leads to non-monotonic behaviour in both beam energy and impact parameter dependences which, if observed, can be used to identify such a phase transition. Our calculations span collision energies from the Brookhaven AGS (Alternating Gradient Synchrotron) to beyond the LHC (Large Hadron Collider); the QGP phase transition signature is predicted between the lowest available SPS (CERN Super Proton Synchrotron) and the highest RHIC (Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) energies. To optimize the chances for applicability of hydrodynamics we suggest to study the excitation function of flow anisotropies in central uranium-uranium collisions in the side-on-side collision geometry.

Abstract:We present the directed flow (v1) measured in Au+Au collisions at √s_(NN) = 62.4 GeV in the midpseudorapidity region |η| < 1.3 and in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5 < |η| < 4.0. The results are obtained using the three-particle cumulant method, the event plane method with mixed harmonics, and for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, the standard method with the event plane reconstructed from spectator neutrons. Results from all three methods are in good agreement. Over the pseudorapidity range studied, charged particle directed flow is in the direction opposite to that of fragmentation neutrons.

Abstract:The recently formulated model of highly-anisotropic and strongly dissipative hydrodynamics is used in 3+1 dimensions to describe flow characteristics and strangeness production in Au+Au collisions at the highest RHIC beam energy. Our results show very weak dependence on the initial momentum anisotropy, provided the anisotropic phase lasts no longer than 1 fm/c.

Abstract:We study the transverse momentum ($p_T$) differential anisotropic flow and flow fluctuation in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=5.02 TeV at the LHC. A (3+1)-dimensional CLVisc hydrodynamics framework with fluctuating TRENTO (or AMPT) initial conditions is utilized to simulate the space-time evolution of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) medium. The effects of shear viscosity and the sub-nucleon structure on anisotropic flow and flow fluctuation are analyzed. Our result shows that shear viscosity tends to suppress both flow coefficients (${v_2\{2}\}$, ${v_2\{4\}}$, ${\langle v_2\rangle}$) and flow fluctuation (${\sigma_{v_2}}$) due to its smearing effect on local density fluctuation. The flow coefficients appear to be insensitive to the sub-nucleon structure, whereas for flow fluctuation ${\sigma_{v_2}}$, it tends to be suppressed by the sub-nucleon structure in central collisions but enhanced in peripheral collisions. After taking into account the sub-nucleon structure effect, our numerical result can quantitatively describe the relative flow fluctuations (${v_2\{4\}/v_2\{2\}}$, $F({v_2})$) measured by the ALICE Collaboration at the LHC. We further investigate the effects of shear viscosity, sub-nucleon structure and initial condition model on the flow angle and flow magnitude decorrelations (${A_2^f}$, ${M_2^f}$) using the four-particle correlation method. We find that the flow decorrelation effect is typically stronger in central collisions than in peripheral collisions. The flow angle decorrelation is found to be insensitive to the shear viscosity and sub-nucleon structure, whereas the flow magnitude decorrelation shows quite different behavior when using TRENTO or AMPT initial condition model. Our study sheds light on the anisotropic flow, transport properties and initial structure of the QGP created in high-energy nuclear collisions.

Abstract:Using a (3+1)-D hydrodynamic model CLVisc, we study the directed flow ($v_{1}$) of light hadrons produced in Au+Au, Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}=$ 200 GeV. The evolution of tilted energy density, pressure gradient and radial flow along the $x$-direction are systematically investigated. Counter-clockwise tilt of initial fireball is shown to be a vital source of the directed flow for final light hadrons. A good description of directed flow is provided for light hadrons in central and mid-central Au+Au and isobar collisions at RHIC. Our numerical results show a clear system size dependence for light hadron $v_{1}$ across different collision systems. We further study the effect of nuclear structure on the directed flow and find that the $v_{1}$ for light hadrons is insensitive to the nuclei with quadrupole deformation.

Abstract:We calculate the elliptic flow of deuterons in Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV per colliding nucleon-nucleon pair and show that it can be used to discriminate between direct statistical production and coalescence. The emission from the fireball is parametrized and tuned to reproduce transverse momentum spectra and the elliptic flow of protons and pions. Coalescence leads to higher deuteron elliptic flow than statistical production and agrees better with experimental data.
