Abstract:In this article we construct a family of expressions $\varepsilon(n)$. For each element E(n) from $\varepsilon(n)$, the convergence of the series $\sum_{n \ge n_E}{E(n)}$ can be determined in accordance to the theorems of this article. Some applications are also presented.

Abstract:In several widespread areas of applications, the problem of summation of a given slowly convergent series is usually addressed by first transforming the given series into another series which converges more rapidly than the original series. One of many series transformations of this kind. which are commonly applied with a view to accelerating the convergence of slowly convergent series, is the familiar Euler-Knopp transformation which was recently generalized by making use of the classical Laguerre and related polynomials, The main object of this paper is to investigate these generalizations in a unified manner.

Abstract:In this paper we study the convergence of multiple Dirichlet L-series. In particular we give an integral representation of the series in the region of convergence by using Abel's summation formula. A certain generalized result is also mentioned.

Abstract:We generalize the classical Olivier's theorem which says that for any convergent series $\sum_n a_n$ with positive nonincreasing real terms the sequence $(n a_n)$ tends to zero. Our results encompass many known generalizations of Olivier's theorem and give some new instances. The generalizations are done in two directions: we either drop the monotonicity assumption completely or we relax it to the monotonicity on a large set of indices. In both cases, the convergence of $(na_n)$ is replaced by ideal convergence. In the second part of the paper, we examine families of sequences for which the assertions of our generalizations of Olivier's theorem fail. Here, we are interested in finding large linear and algebraic substructures in these families.

Some Families of Rapidly Convergent Series Representations for the Zeta Functions

Abstract:Many interesting families of rapidly convergent series representations for the Riemann Zeta function zeta (2n + 1) (n is an element of N) were considered recently by various authors. In this survey-cum-expository paper, the author presents a systematic (and historical) investigation of these series representations. Relevant connections of the results presented here with several other known series representations for zeta (2n + 1) (n is an element of N) are also pointed out. In one of many computationally useful special cases presented here, it is observed that zeta (3) can be represented by means of a series which converges much faster than that in Euler's celebrated formula as well as the series used recently by Apery in his proof of the irrationality of zeta (3). Symbolic and numerical computations using Mathematica (Version 4.0) for Linux show, among other things, that only 50 terms of this series are capable of producing an accuracy of seven decimal places.

Abstract:For a natural number n, the author derives several families of series representations for the Riemann Zeta function zeta(2n + 1). Each of these series representing zeta(2n + 1) converges remarkably rapidly with its general term having the order estimate:O(k(-2)n(-1).m(-2k))(k-->infinity; m = 2,3,4,6).Relevant connections of the results presented here with many other known series representations for zeta(2n + 1) are also pointed out.

In the present sequel to this recent work, it is shown that much more general classes of infinite sums can be evaluated without using fractional calculus. Abstract:We first present the corrected expression for a certain widely-recorded generalized Goldbach-Euler series. The corrected forms are then shown to be connected with the problem of closed-form evaluation of series involving the Zeta functions, which happens to be an extensively-investigated subject since the time of Euler as (for example) in the classical three-century old-Goldbach theorem.

Abstract:We use contour integrals and the Cauchy residue theorem in order to derive several summation formulas, in terms of the higher-order Bernoulli polynomials and the ordinary Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, for a remarkably general family of secant sums. Numerous (known or new) special cases are shown to follow readily from the summation formulas presented in this paper.

Abstract:Solutions of nonlinear functional equations are generally not expressed as a finite number of combinations and compositions of elementary and known special functions. One of the approaches to study them is, firstly, to find formal solutions (that is, series whose terms are described and ordered in some way but which do not converge apriori) and, secondly, to study the convergence or summability of these formal solutions (the existence and uniqueness of actual solutions with the given asymptotic expansion in a certain domain). In this paper we deal only with the convergence of formal functional series having the form of an infinite sum of power functions with (complex, in general) power exponents and satisfying analytical functional equations of the following three types: a differential, $q$-difference or Mahler equation.

Abstract:The goal of this article is to study some basic algebraic and combinatorial properties of "generalized $n$-series" over a commutative ring $R$, which are functions $s: \mathbf{Z}_{\geq 0} \to R$ satisfying a mild condition. A special example of generalized $n$-series is given by the $q$-integers $\frac{q^n-1}{q-1} \in \mathbf{Z}[\![q-1]\!]$. Given a generalized $n$-series $s$, one can define $s$-analogues of factorials (via $n!_s = \prod_{i=1}^n s(n)$) and binomial coefficients. We prove that Pascal's identity, the binomial identity, Lucas' theorem, and the Vandermonde identity admit $s$-analogues; each of these specialize to their appropriate $q$-analogue in the case of the $q$-integer generalized $n$-series. We also study the growth rates of generalized $n$-series defined over the integers. Finally, we define an $s$-analogue of the ($q$-)derivative, and prove $s$-analogues of the Poincaré lemma and the Cartier isomorphism for the affine line, as well as a pullback square due to Bhatt-Lurie.

Abstract:The history of problems of evaluation of series associated with the Riemann Zeta function can be traced back to Christian Goldbach (1690–1764) and Leonhard Euler (1707–1783). Many different techniques to evaluate various series involving the Zeta and related functions have since then been developed. The authors show how elegantly certain families of series involving the Hurwitz–Lerch Zeta function can be evaluated by starting with a single known identity for the Hurwitz–Lerch Zeta function. Some of the special cases of these series identities are also shown to lead to certain known families of summation formulas involving the Hurwitz Zeta function.

Abstract:For a natural number n, we propose and develop yet another family of rapidly converging series representations for the Riemann Zeta function ζ(2n + 1). These developments lead us naturally to the problem of computation of the derivatives ζ′(1 − 2n) and ζ′(−n, a) of the Riemann and Hurwitz Zeta functions, respectively. We also briefly indicate relevant connections of the results considered here with many other known series representations for ζ(2n + 1).

Abstract:This paper catalogues a variety of examples concerning a type of function of a $p$-adic integer variable defined by a formal series expression we have dubbed "$\mathcal{F}$-series". These series exhibit a new, previously undocumented form of point-wise convergence, one where the topology in which the limit of a sequence of functions $\left\{ f_{n}\right\}_{n\geq1}$ converges depends on the point at which the sequence is evaluated. In a manner comparable to the adele ring of a number field, functions defined by $\mathcal{F}$-series require considering different metric completions of an underlying field in order to be properly understood.

Abstract:This note is concerned with series of the forms $\sum f(a^n)$ and $\sum f(n^{-a})$ where f(a) possesses a Mellin transform and $a > 1$ or $a<0$ respectively. Integral representations are derived and used to transform these series in several ways yielding a selection of interesting integral evaluations involving Riemann's function $\zeta(s)$, limits and series representations containing hyperpowers. A number of examples of such sums are provided, each of which is investigated for possible new structure. In one case, we obtain a generalization of Riemann's classic relationship among the Zeta, Gamma and Jacobi Theta functions.

Abstract:We introduce a novel arithmetic function $w(n)$, a generalization of the Liouville function $\lambda(n)$, as the coefficients of a Dirichlet series, and as a special case of a parametrized family of functions $w_m(n)$. We prove some useful special properties of these arithmetic functions and then focus on convergence of their Dirichlet series. In particular, we show that each function $w_m(n)$ injectively maps $\mathbb{N}$ into a dense subset of the unit circle in $\mathbb{C}$ and that $F_m(s) = \sum_n \frac{w_m(n)}{n^s}$ converges for all $s$ with $\Re(s)\in\left(\frac{1}{2},1\right)$. Finally, we show that the family of functions $w_m(n)$ converges to $\lambda(n)$ and that $F_m(s)$ converges uniformly in $m$ to $\sum_n \frac{\lambda(n)}{n^s}$, implying convergence of that series in the same region and thereby proving a particularly interesting property about a closely related function.

Abstract:Suppose a complex function $f$ has a Lebesgue measurable inverse Laplace transform. We show that the $n$th order forward and backward differences of $f$ at $z_0\in\mathbb{C}$ tend to zero as $n\to\infty$ whenever $z_0$ lies in the region of absolute convergence of $f$. Under the same hypothesis, we show that the Newton series of $f$ centered at $z_0$ exists and converges in the half-plane $\Re(z)>\Re(z_0)$. Assuming instead that $f$ has a Lebesgue measurable inverse Fourier transform, we show that the $n$th order forward, backward, and central differences of $f$ at any $y\in\mathbb{R}$ are $o(2^n)$. Consequently, we show that the binomial sum $\sum_{k\geq0}{n\choose k}f(k)$ is $o(2^n)$.

On a finite sum of cosecants appearing in various problems

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the finite sum of cosecants $\sum\csc\big(\varphi+a\pi l/n\big),$ where the index $l$ runs through 1 to $n-1$ and $\varphi$ and $a$ are arbitrary parameters, as well as several closely related sums, such as similar sums of a series of secants, of tangents and of cotangents. These trigonometric sums appear in various problems in mathematics, physics, and a variety of related disciplines. Their particular cases were fragmentarily considered in previous works, and it was noted that even a simple particular case $\sum\csc\big(\pi l/n\big)$ does not have a closed-form, i.e. a compact summation formula. In the paper, we derive several alternative representations for the above-mentioned sums, study their properties, relate them to many other finite and infinite sums, obtain their complete asymptotic expansions for large $n$ and provide accurate upper and lower bounds (e.g. the typical relative error for the upper bound is lesser than $2\times10^{-9}$ for $n\geqslant10$ and lesser than $7\times10^{-14}$ for $n\geqslant50$, which is much better than the bounds we could find in previous works). Our researches reveal that these sums are deeply related to several special numbers and functions, especially to the digamma function (furthermore, as a by-product, we obtain several interesting summations formulae for the digamma function). Asymptotical studies show that these sums may have qualitatively different behaviour depending on the choice of $\varphi$ and $a$; in particular, as $n$ increases some of them may become sporadically large. Finally, we also provide several historical remarks related to various sums considered in the paper. We show that some results in the field either were rediscovered several times or can easily be deduced from various known formulae, including some formulae dating back to the XVIIIth century.
