Abstract:The classical Dirichlet problem for a second-order strongly elliptic system with constant coefficients in a Jordan domain is considered. We show that the solution of the problem can be represented as a functional series in powers of the parameter, which determines the deviation of the system operator from the Laplacian. This series converges uniformly in the closure of the region under the assumption that the boundary of the region and the boundary function satisfy the sufficient regularity conditions: the trace of a conformal mapping of the domain onto a circle composed with the boundary function belongs to the Holder class with exponent greater than 1/2.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove Anderson localization for the Klein-Gordon operator on the circle 𝕋 under non-resonant perturbations. Furthermore, using the result, we show that the Sobolev norms of solutions to the corresponding Klein-Gordon equations remain bounded for all time.

Abstract:A problem by Feichtinger, Heil, and Larson asks whether a positive-definite integral operator with $M_1$ kernel admits a symmetric rank-one decomposition which is strongly square-summable with respect to the $M_1$ norm. In conjunction with a concurrent result by Bandeira-Mixon-Steinerberger, we provide a negative answer to the problem and study special cases where such factorization is possible. We also discuss an application of the results to the semidefinite relaxation of a quadratic program.

Abstract:We review applications of factorization methods to the problem of finding stationary point vortex patterns in two-dimensional fluid mechanics. Then we present a new class of patterns related to periodic analogs of Schrodinger operators from the ``even" bi-spectral family. We also show that patterns related to rational and soliton solutions of the KdV hierarchy constitute complete solution of the problem for certain classes of vortex systems.

Abstract:This work offers a new prospective on asymptotic perturbation theory for varying self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators. Employing symplectic formulation of self-adjointness we obtain a new version of Krein formula for resolvent difference which facilitates asymptotic analysis of resolvent operators via first order expansion for the family of Lagrangian planes associated with perturbed operators. Specifically, we derive a Riccati-type differential equation and the first order asymptotic expansion for resolvents of self-adjoint extensions determined by smooth one-parameter families of Lagrangian planes. This asymptotic perturbation theory yields a symplectic version of the abstract Kato selection theorem and Hadamard-Rellich-type variational formula for slopes of multiple eigenvalue curves bifurcating from an eigenvalue of the unperturbed operator. The latter, in turn, gives a general infinitesimal version of the celebrated formula equating the spectral flow of a path of self-adjoint extensions and the Maslov index of the corresponding path of Lagrangian planes. Applications are given to quantum graphs, periodic Kronig-Penney model, elliptic second order partial differential operators with Robin boundary conditions, and physically relevant heat equations with thermal conductivity.

Abstract:Assuming $T_0$ to be an m-accretive operator in the complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, we use a resolvent method due to Kato to appropriately define the additive perturbation $T = T_0 + W$ and prove stability of square root domains, that is, $$ dom\big((T_0 + W)^{1/2}\big) = dom\big(T_0^{1/2}\big). $$ Moreover, assuming in addition that $dom\big(T_0^{1/2}\big) = dom\big((T_0^*)^{1/2}\big)$, we prove stability of square root domains in the form $$dom\big((T_0 + W)^{1/2}\big) = dom\big(T_0^{1/2}\big) = dom\big((T_0^*)^{1/2}\big) = dom\big(((T_0 + W)^*)^{1/2}\big), $$ which is most suitable for PDE applications. We apply this approach to elliptic second-order partial differential operators of the form $$ - div(a\nabla \, \cdot \,) + \big(\mathbf{B}_1\cdot \nabla \cdot \big) + div \big(\mathbf{B}_2 \cdot \big) + V $$ in $L^2(\Omega)$ on certain open sets $\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$, $n \in \mathbb{N}$, with Dirichlet, Neumann, and mixed boundary conditions on $\partial \Omega$, under general hypotheses on the (typically, nonsmooth, unbounded) coefficients and on $\partial\Omega$.

Abstract:Given a right factor and a left factor of a Linear Partial Differential Operator (LPDO), under which conditions we can refine these two-factor factorizations into one three-factor factorization? This problem is solved for LPDOs of arbitrary order and number of variables. A more general result for the incomplete factorizations of LPDOs is proved as well.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a resolvent problem arising from the free boundary value problem for the compressible fluid model of Korteweg type, which is called as the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg system, with surface tension in the half-space. The Navier-Stokes-Korteweg system is known as a diffuse interface model for liquid-vapor two-phase flows. Our purpose is to show the $\mathcal R$-boundedness for the solution operator families of the resolvent problem, which gives us the maximal regularity estimates in the $L_p$-in-time and $L_q$-in-space setting by applying the Weis's operator valued Fourier multiplier theorem.

Abstract:We consider a factorization of the non-stationary Schrodinger operator based on the parabolic Dirac operator introduced by Cerejeiras/ Kahler/ Sommen. Based on the fundamental solution for the parabolic Dirac operators, we shall construct appropriated Teodorescu and Cauchy-Bitsadze operators. Afterwards we will describe how to solve the nonlinear Schrodinger equation using Banach fixed point theorem.

Abstract:We study singular Sturm-Liouville operators of the form \[ \frac{1}{r_j}\left(-\frac{\mathrm d}{\mathrm dx}p_j\frac{\mathrm d}{\mathrm dx}+q_j\right),\qquad j=0,1, \] in $L^2((a,b);r_j)$, where, in contrast to the usual assumptions, the weight functions $r_j$ have different signs near the singular endpoints $a$ and $b$. In this situation the associated maximal operators become self-adjoint with respect to indefinite inner products and their spectral properties differ essentially from the Hilbert space situation. We investigate the essential spectra and accumulation properties of nonreal and real discrete eigenvalues; we emphasize that here also perturbations of the indefinite weights $r_j$ are allowed. Special attention is paid to Kneser type results in the indefinite setting and to $L^1$ perturbations of periodic operators.

Abstract:We establish the factorization of Dirac operators on Riemannian submersions of compact spin$^c$ manifolds in unbounded KK-theory. More precisely, we show that the Dirac operator on the total space of such a submersion is unitarily equivalent to the tensor sum of a family of Dirac operators with the Dirac operator on the base space, up to an explicit bounded curvature term. Thus, the latter is an obstruction to having a factorization in unbounded KK-theory. We show that our tensor sum represents the bounded KK-product of the corresponding KK-cycles and connect to the early work of Connes and Skandalis.

On Molchanov's criterion for compactness of the resolvent for a non self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville operator

Abstract:The Molchanov's condition is a necessary condition for the compactness of the resolvent for a wide class of ordinary differential operators of arbitrary order, but for the Sturm-Liouville operator it is not sufficient, even if the real part of the potential is non-negative. Molchanov's criterion remains valid in the formulation closest to the original one for potentials that take values in a narrower sector than the half-plane, separated from the negative half-axis. This work is devoted to these questions.

Abstract:This is the final part of a series of papers where we study perturbations of divergence form second order elliptic operators by first and zero order terms, whose complex coefficients lie in critical spaces, via the method of layer potentials. In particular, we show that the well-posedness (with natural non-tangential maximal function estimates) of the Dirichlet, Neumann and regularity problems for complex Hermitian, block form, or constant-coefficient divergence form elliptic operators in the upper half-space are all stable under such perturbations. Due to the lack of the classical De Giorgi–Nash–Moser theory in our setting, our method to prove the non-tangential maximal function estimates relies on a completely new argument: We obtain a certain weak- " $N<s$ " estimate, which we eventually couple with square function bounds, weighted extrapolation theory, and a bootstrapping argument to recover the full bound. Finally, we show the existence and uniqueness of solutions in a relatively broad class. As a corollary, we claim the first results in an unbounded domain concerning the -solvability of boundary value problems for the magnetic Schrödinger operator when the magnetic potential and the electric potential V are accordingly small in the norm of a scale-invariant Lebesgue space.</s\)<>

Abstract:In this paper we develop certain aspects of perturbation theory for self-adjoint operators subject to small variations of their domains. We use the abstract theory of boundary triplets to quantify such perturbations and give the second order asymptotic analysis for resolvents, spectral projections, discrete eigenvalues of the corresponding self-adjoint operators. In particular, we derive explicit formulas for the first variation and the Hessian of the eigenvalue curves bifurcating from a discrete eigenvalue of an unperturbed operator. An application is given to a matrix valued Robin Laplacian and more general Robin-type self-adjoint extensions.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the factorization of the Sudakov form factor on the Coulomb branch of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the near mass-shell limit. We unravel all pinch singularities of this observable making use of the Method of Regions. We find their operator content in terms of matrix elements of Wilson lines on semi-infinite and finite intervals for the jet and ultrasoft functions, respectively. However, naive factorization into these incoherent momentum components is broken at two-loop order by effects subleading in the parameter of dimensional regularization. To save the day, we perform an appropriate twisting of the functions involved as well as simultaneous finite scheme transformation of the 't Hooft coupling. Infrared physics of twisted jet and ultrasoft functions is governed by the octagon anomalous dimension, while the untwisted ultrasoft function possesses infrared evolution driven by an anomalous dimension different from the ubiquitous cusp.

Abstract:A covariant, global, variational framework for perturbations in field theories is presented. Perturbations are obtained as vertical vector fields on the configuration bundle and they drag, exactly, solution into solutions. The flow of a perturbation drags solutions into solutions and the dragged perturbed solutions can be expanded in a series with respect to the flow parameter, hence it contains perturbations at any order. Mechanics is included as a special case. As a simple application, we recover the well-known discussion about stability of geodesics on a sphere $S_2$.

Intertwining operators beyond the Stark Effect

Abstract:The main mathematical manifestation of the Stark effect in quantum mechanics is the shift and the formation of clusters of eigenvalues when a spherical Hamiltonian is perturbed by lower order terms. Understanding this mechanism turned out to be fundamental in the description of the large-time asymptotics of the associated Schrödinger groups and can be responsible for the lack of dispersion in Fanelli, Felli, Fontelos and Primo [Comm. Math. Phys., 324(2013), 1033-1067; 337(2015), 1515-1533]. Recently, Miao, Su, and Zheng introduced in [Tran. Amer. Math. Soc., 376(2023), 1739--1797] a family of spectrally projected intertwining operators, reminiscent of the Kato's wave operators, in the case of constant perturbations on the sphere (inverse-square potential), and also proved their boundedness in $L^p$. Our aim is to establish a general framework in which some suitable intertwining operators can be defined also for non constant spherical perturbations in space dimensions 2 and higher. In addition, we investigate the mapping properties between $L^p$-spaces of these operators. In 2D, we prove a complete result, for the Schrödinger Hamiltonian with a (fixed) magnetic potential an electric potential, both scaling critical, allowing us to prove dispersive estimates, uniform resolvent estimates, and $L^p$-bounds of Bochner--Riesz means. In higher dimensions, apart from recovering the example of inverse-square potential, we can conjecture a complete result in presence of some symmetries (zonal potentials), and open some interesting spectral problems concerning the asymptotics of eigenfunctions.
