Abstract:Quarkyonic matter is a new phase of QCD at finite temperature and density which is distinct from the confined and de-confined phases. Its existence is unambiguously argued in the large number of colors limit in QCD. Hints of its existence for 3 color QCD are shown in lattice Monte-Carlo data and heavy ion experiments.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to explore the phase diagram of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at finite temperature and density, and proposes a new matter phase - Quarkyonic Matter. By analyzing the QCD behavior in the large - color limit (\(N_c \to \infty\)), the author points out that in this limit, besides the known confined phase and deconfined phase, there exists a third phase, namely Quarkyonic Matter. This phase is characterized by the fact that at very high baryon density, its pressure and energy density behave like a free - quark gas, but the matter is still confined. This indicates that the excitations near the Fermi surface must form color singlets. The main contributions of the paper are as follows: 1. **Proposing Quarkyonic Matter**: In the large - color limit, the existence of Quarkyonic Matter is clearly demonstrated. 2. **Phase Diagram Revision**: The traditional QCD phase diagram is revised by introducing Quarkyonic Matter as a new phase. 3. **Experimental Evidence**: Preliminary evidence for the existence of Quarkyonic Matter is provided through lattice Monte Carlo data and the results of heavy - ion experiments. 4. **Theoretical Basis**: The physical properties and transition mechanisms of different phases in the large - color limit are discussed in detail, especially the differences and connections between Quarkyonic Matter and the confined phase and the deconfined phase. In conclusion, this paper aims to reveal the complex phase structure of QCD at finite temperature and density through theoretical analysis and experimental data, especially the existence of Quarkyonic Matter and its physical significance.
