Abstract:The application of the piecewise linear chaotic map(PLCM) in the digital encryption system always requires multiple iteration,which lowers the encryption speed.A new PLCM with a segment number parameter(SNP) was advanced.The precision,SNP and the number of iterations were analyzed,and their mathematical relationship was developed.In the digital encryption system using the presented map,the larger the SNP is adopted,the smaller the number of iteration is needed,and hence the higher the encryption speed.With the incorporation of the area-time trade-off parameter,a most appropriate SNP can be achieved,through which the digital system is optimized.

Abstract:The researches of chaotic cryptography only focus on the security analysis with the difficulty in considering the circuit implementation synthetically. In allusion to the problem, a parameterized sawtooth chaotic map is proposed, and the mathematical relationship among security and parameter of sawtooth chaotic map is deduced. Furthermore, the physical characterization will be estimated at the high-level, and the mathematical relationship among circuit implementation and the parameters is also deduced, designers can choose the optimal parameters to gain the optimal results with consideration of security and the circuit implementation. Finally, an example is given to further the approaches.

Abstract:Good statistics for measuring large-scale structure in the Universe must be able to distinguish between different models of structure formation. In this paper, two and three dimensional ``counts in cell" statistics and a new ``discrete genus statistic" are applied to toy versions of several popular theories of structure formation: random phase cold dark matter model, cosmic string models, and global texture scenario. All three statistics appear quite promising in terms of differentiating between the models.

Abstract:This paper presents an improved two-dimensional logistic map. Relative to the original logistic map, the improved chaos map has better performance, e.g., larger chaotic range, higher complexity, and boosting sequence. Based on these good performances, a novel encipherment strategy is designed according to the hybrid coding of DNA and S-box algorithm. During the design of the algorithm, the primary operations include chaotic stream generation, permutation, and diffusion. The chaotic streams are constructed from the improved two-dimensional logistic map. The diffusion stage is achieved by the spatiotemporal chaos algorithm. The security test reflects that the design algorithm can effectively defend against external attacks.

Abstract:Chaos maps are widely used in image encryption systems due to their intrinsic advantages such as extreme sensitivity to initial values., ergodicity and pseudo-randomness. 1D Logistic map has attracted the attention of researchers due to its simple structure and easy implementation, but also because of this, the map is easy to be affected by finite precision, resulting in dynamic degradation, at low precision, the sequence generated by this map not only enters a period quickly, but also has a shorter period. Thus, taking 1D Logistic map as an example, we proposed a method to suppress the dynamic degradation of digital chaotic systems by using parameter variables and state variables to influence each other, and using sine function as feedback function to destroy the state space. The simulation results show that the improved logistic mapping with the proposed method has better randomness and higher complexity than the original logistic mapping. To prove the practicability and applicability of the improved chaotic map, we design a new image encryption algorithm, which is suitable for both color image and grayscale image. The numerical results indicate that the proposed algorithm has high encryption efficiency, good resistance to various attacks and certain competitiveness with other encryption algorithms.

Abstract:Chaotic maps are widely used in the designs of different security applications due to their series of attractive features, but many commonly used chaotic maps have several weaknesses such as limited chaotic range, small Lyapunov exponent and heavy computational cost. Although there have been many methods to overcome these shortcomings, most of them lack theoretical analysis and the improvement effect is quite limited. In order to better solve these problems, from the perspective of geometry, this paper constructs a novel chaotic map with complicated dynamic behavior, which is called piecewise cubic map. We mathematically derive its Lyapunov exponent and some associated theorems and corollaries, which reflects that the new map owns good chaotic performance. Meanwhile, it still retains the advantage of high iteration efficiency. These characteristics provide good theoretical guarantee for the security and efficiency of encryption applications based on it. Moreover, a novel pseudo-random number generator based on piecewise cubic map is designed to investigate its application in cryptography. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed generator can efficiently produce random sequences with high quality.

Abstract:Chaotic behavior arises from very simple non-linear dynamical equation of logistic map which makes it was used often in designing chaotic image encryption schemes. However, some properties of chaotic maps can also facilitate cryptanalysis especially when they are implemented in digital domain. Utilizing stable distribution of the chaotic states generated by iterating the logistic map, this paper presents a typical example to show insecurity of an image encryption scheme using chaotic logistic map. This work will push encryption and chaos be combined in a more effective way.

Abstract:In recent years, conventional logistic maps have been applied across various fields including modeling and security, owing to their versatility and utility. However, their reliance on a single modifiable parameter limits their adaptability. This paper aims to explore generalized logistic maps with arbitrary powers, which offer greater flexibility compared to the standard logistic map. By introducing additional parameters in the form of arbitrary powers, these maps exhibit increased degrees of freedom, thus expanding their applicability across a wider spectrum of scenarios. Consequently, the conventional logistic map emerges as a specific instance within the proposed framework. The inclusion of arbitrary powers enriches system dynamics, enabling a more nuanced exploration of system behavior in diverse contexts. Through a series of illustrations, this study investigates the influence of arbitrary powers and equation parameters on equilibrium points, their positions, stability conditions, basin of attraction, and bifurcation diagrams, including the emergence of chaotic behavior.

Abstract:This work proposes a modified logistic map based on the system previously proposed by Han in 2019. The constructed map exhibits interesting chaos related phenomena like antimonotonicity, crisis, and coexisting attractors. In addition, the Lyapunov exponent of the map can achieve higher values, so the behavior of the proposed map is overall more complex compared to the original. The map is then successfully applied to the problem of random bit generation using techniques like the comparison between maps, X O R , and bit reversal. The proposed algorithm passes all the NIST tests, shows good correlation characteristics, and has a high key space.

Abstract:Chaotic maps have been widely studied in the field of cryptography for their complex dynamics. However, chaos-based cryptosystems have not been widely used in practice. One important reason is that the following requirements of practical engineering applications are not taken into account: computational complexity and difficulty of hardware implementation. In this paper, based on the demand for information security applications, we modify the local structure of the three-dimensional Intertwining Logistic chaotic map to improve the efficiency of software calculation and reduce the cost of hardware implementation while maintaining the complex dynamic behavior of the original map. To achieve the goal by reducing the number of floating point operations, we design a mechanism that can be decomposed into two processes. One process is that the input parameters value of the original system is fixed to 2k by Scale index analysis. The other process is that the transcendental function of the original system is replaced by a nonlinear polynomial. We named the new map as "Simple intertwining logistic". The basic chaotic dynamic behavior of the new system for controlling parameter is qualitatively analyzed by bifurcation diagram and Lyapunov exponent; the non-periodicity of the sequence generated by the new system is quantitatively evaluated by using Scale index technique based on continuous wavelet change. Fuzzy entropy (FuzzyEn) is used to evaluate the randomness of the new system in different finite precision digital systems. The analysis and evaluation results show that the optimized map could achieve the designed target. Then, a novel scheme for generating pseudo-random numbers is proposed based on new map. To ensure its usability in cryptographic applications, a series of analysis are carried out. They mainly include key space analysis, recurrence plots analysis, correlation analysis, information entropy, statistical complexity measure, and performance speed. The statistical properties of the proposed pseudo random number generator (PRNG) are tested with NIST SP800-22 and DIEHARD. The obtained results of analyzing and statistical software testing shows that, the proposed PRNG passed all these tests and have good randomness. In particular, the speed of generating random numbers is extremely rapid compared with existing chaotic PRNGs. Compared to the original chaotic map (using the same scheme of random number generation), the speed is increased by 1.5 times. Thus, the proposed PRNG can be used in the information security.

Abstract:Periodicity analysis of sequences generated by a deterministic system is a long-standing challenge in both theoretical research and engineering applications. To overcome the inevitable degradation of the Logistic map on a finite-precision circuit, its numerical domain is commonly converted from a real number field to a ring or a finite field. This paper studies the period of sequences generated by iterating the Logistic map over ring $\mathbb{Z}_{3^n}$ from the perspective of its associate functional network, where every number in the ring is considered as a node, and the existing mapping relation between any two nodes is regarded as a directed edge. The complete explicit form of the period of the sequences starting from any initial value is given theoretically and verified experimentally. Moreover, conditions on the control parameter and initial value are derived, ensuring the corresponding sequences to achieve the maximum period over the ring. The results can be used as ground truth for dynamical analysis and cryptographical applications of the Logistic map over various domains.

Abstract:Several efforts have been seen claiming the lightweight block ciphers as a necessarily suitable substitute in securing the Internet of Things. Currently, it has been able to envisage as a pervasive frame of reference almost all across the privacy preserving of smart and sensor-oriented appliances. Different approaches are likely to be inefficient, bringing desired degree of security considering the easiness and surely the process of simplicity but security. Strengthening the well-known symmetric key and block dependent algorithm using either chaos motivated logistic map or elliptic curve has shown a far-reaching potential to be a discretion in secure real-time communication. The popular feature of logistic maps, such as the un-foreseeability and randomness often expected to be used in dynamic key-propagation in sync with chaos and scheduling technique towards data integrity. As a bit alternation in keys, able to come up with oversize deviation, also would have consequence to leverage data confidentiality. Henceforth it may have proximity to time consumption, which may lead to a challenge to make sure instant data exchange between participating node entities. In consideration of delay latency required to both secure encryption and decryption, the proposed approach suggests a modification on the key-origination matrix along with S-box. It has plausibly been taken us to this point that the time required proportionate to the plain-text sent while the plain-text disproportionate to the probability happening a letter on the message made. In line with that the effort so far sought how apparent chaos escalates the desired key-initiation before message transmission.

Abstract:This paper points out the issues which should be considered when a chaotic cryptosystem is designed.A block encryption algorithm based on multiple logistic maps is proposed.Owing to the multiple chaotic maps,the key space of cryptosystem is extended.With the ciphertext feed back,the subkey sequences is generated from the chaotic maps.The subkey sequences have good uniform distribution property,random statistical property and have relation to the plaintext,which enhance the security of the cryptosystem.Theoretical study and computer simulation results show that the cryptosystem has a high speed and good security.

Abstract:Logistic chaotic maps and Tent chaotic maps are widely applied in the field of the communication security . Tent chaotic maps have piecewise characteristics ;sowe can apply the piecewise features in Logistic chaotic mapsnaturally .The paperproposes a method that Logistic chaotic maps can be divided into three segments which are tangent each other(three‐segment and tangential piecewise Logistic chaotic maps ) .The method can avoid the process that Tent chaotic maps need to apply the stochastic perturbation ,and it also improves the randomness of Logistic chaotic maps ,which increases the complexity and anti‐attack capability of the chaotic system .Onbasis of the experiment ,the paper proves that three‐segment and tangential piecewise Logistic chaotic maps can enter into chaotic state earlier on the same interval ,and their trajectory are increasingly unstable when μis between 3 .57 and 4 .The Lyapunov exponent is positive and it increases gradually ,thus more complicated nonlinear equation improves the security of system .Under the same bifurcate criterion threshold ,the number of iterations is decreased dramatically when three‐segment and tangential piecewise Logistic chaotic maps enter into chaotic state .Therefore ,three‐segment and tangential piecewise Logistic chaotic sequences have better randomness and unpredictability .The experiment shows that three‐segment and tangential piecewise Logistic chaotic maps are initial‐value sensitivity ,so they will be widely applied in the field of information security .

Abstract:One of the applications of dynamical systems with chaotic behavior is data encryption. Chaos-based cryptography uses chaotic dynamical systems as the basis for creating algorithms. The present article discusses a new dynamical system called M-map with its analysis: fixed points, bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponent, and invariant density. The obtained bifurcation diagram and the plot of the Lyapunov exponent (with a minimum value of ln2 and a maximum value of ln4) suggest that the so-called robust chaos characterizes this map. Moreover, the obtained results are compared with other dynamical systems used in cryptography. Additionally, the article proposes a new image encryption algorithm. It uses, among others, cyclically shifted S-box or saving encrypted pixels on the first or last free space in the cipher-image. The conducted analysis shows that the cipher-images are characterized by an entropy value close to 8, a correlation of adjacent pixels value close to 0, or values of Number of Pixel of Change Rate (NPCR) and Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI) measures close to 100% and 33%, respectively.

Abstract:In this study, we propose a novel 2D lag-complex logistic map (LCLM). The 2D-LCLM is derived from the conventional 2D logistic map by extending its variables from real numbers to complex field. The bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, and the evolution of chaotic attractors have been exploited for evaluating the chaotic behavior. Results show that the 2D-LCLM has extensive chaotic intervals, good ergodicity, and unpredictable trajectories. For further studying its practical significance, we then construct a color image cryptosystem based on 2D-LCLM. Bit-level permutation and one-time keys are used for speeding up the computational speed and defending chosen plaintext attack. Simulation results and corresponding analysis reveal that the cryptosystem has large key-space and good key sensitivity, and its information entropy approaches to the ideal value. Hence, the cryptosystem based on 2D-LCLM can strongly resist traditional cipher attacks.

Abstract:The logistic map is a paradigmatic dynamical system originally conceived to model the discrete-time demographic growth of a population, which shockingly, shows that discrete chaos can emerge from trivial low-dimensional non-linear dynamics. In this work, we design and characterize a simple, low-cost, easy-to-handle, electronic implementation of the logistic map. In particular, our implementation allows for straightforward circuit-modifications to behave as different one-dimensional discrete-time systems. Also, we design a coupling block in order to address the behavior of two coupled maps, although, our design is unrestricted to the discrete-time system implementation and it can be generalized to handle coupling between many dynamical systems, as in a complex system. Our findings show that the isolated and coupled maps' behavior has a remarkable agreement between the experiments and the simulations, even when fine-tuning the parameters with a resolution of $\sim 10^{-3}$. We support these conclusions by comparing the Lyapunov exponents, periodicity of the orbits, and phase portraits of the numerical and experimental data for a wide range of coupling strengths and map's parameters.

Abstract:One technique, especially in chaos-based cryptographic applications, is to include the message in the evolution of the dynamical system. This paper aims to find out if and to what extent the statistical behavior of the chaotic system is affected by the message inclusion in its dynamic evolution. The study is illustrated by the dynamical system described by the logistic map in cryptographic applications based on images. The evaluation of the statistical behavior was performed on an original scheme proposed. The Monte Carlo analysis of the applied Kolmogorov–Smirnov statistical test revealed that the dynamical system in the processing scheme with message inclusion does not modify its proper statistical behavior (revealed by definition relation). This was possible due to the proposed scheme designed. Namely, this scheme contains a decision switch which, supported by an appropriate choice of the magnitude of the scaling factor, ensures that the values of the dynamical system are maintained in the definition domain. The proposed framework for analyzing the statistical properties and for preserving the dynamical system behavior is one main contribution of this research. The message inclusion scheme also provides an enhancement with cryptographic mixing functions applied internally; the statistical behavior of the dynamical system is also analyzed in this case. Thus, the paper contributes to the theoretical complex characterization of the dynamical system considering also the message inclusion case.

Abstract:The standard logistic map, $x'=ax(1-x)$, serves as a paradigmatic model to demonstrate how apparently simple non-linear equations lead to complex and chaotic dynamics. In this work we introduce and investigate its matrix analogue defined for an arbitrary matrix $X$ of a given order $N$. We show that for an arbitrary initial ensemble of hermitian random matrices with a continuous level density supported on the interval $[0,1]$, the asymptotic level density converges to the invariant measure of the logistic map. Depending on the parameter $a$ the constructed measure may be either singular, fractal or described by a continuous density. In a broader class of the map multiplication by a scalar logistic parameter $a$ is replaced by transforming $aX(\mathbb{I}-X)$ into $BX(\mathbb{I}-X)B^{\dagger}$, where $A=BB^{\dagger}$ is a fixed positive matrix of order $N$. This approach generalizes the known model of coupled logistic maps, and allows us to study the transition to chaos in complex networks and multidimensional systems. In particular, associating the matrix $B$ with a given graph we demonstrate the gradual transfer of chaos between subsystems corresponding to vertices of a graph and coupled according to its edges.

Abstract:In order to overcome the disadvantages of logistic map in designing chaos-based cipher, the piecewise logistic map (PLM) is presented. Some properties related to cryptography of the PLM, such as ergodicity, Lyapunov exponent, and bifurcation, are analyzed and compared with the logistic map. From the view of cryptography, the PLM owns better properties than the logistic map. Then, a novel pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) based on the PLM is proposed. Since the cryptographic properties of the PLM are enhanced, the presented PRNG achieves a trade-off between efficiency and security. Both performance analysis and simulation test confirm that our scheme is simple, secure, and efficient, with high potential to be adopted as a stream cipher for secure communication.
