Abstract:In this paper, we study Artinian and Noetherian properties in vector lattices and provide a concrete representation of these spaces. Furthermore, we describe for which Archimedean uniformly complete vector lattices every decreasing sequence of prime ideals is stationary (a property that we refer to as prime Artinian). We also completely characterize the prime ideals in vector lattices of continuous root functions and piecewise polynomials. This is a useful space for studying how having decreasing stationary sequences of prime ideals does not imply having increasing stationary sequences of prime ideals, and vice versa.

Abstract:Disjointness, bands, and band projections are a classical and essential part of the structure theory of vector lattices. If $X$ is such a lattice, those notions seem - at first glance - intimately related to the lattice operations on $X$. The last fifteen years, though, have seen an extension of all those concepts to a much larger class of ordered vector spaces. In fact if $X$ is an Archimedean ordered vector space with generating cone, or a member of the slightly larger class of pre-Riesz spaces, then the notions of disjointness, bands and band projections can be given proper meaning and give rise to a non-trivial structure theory. The purpose of this note is twofold: (i) We show that, on any pre-Riesz space, the structure of the space of all band projections is remarkably close to what we have in the case of vector lattices. In particular, this space is a Boolean algebra. (ii) We give several criteria for a pre-Riesz space to already be a vector lattice. These criteria are coined in terms of disjointness and closely related concepts, and they mark how lattice-like the order structure of pre-Riesz spaces can get before the theory collapses to the vector lattice case.

Abstract:Summand absorbing submodules are common in modules over (additively) idempotent semirings, for example, in tropical algebra. A submodule $W$ of $V$ is summand absorbing, if $x + y \in W$ implies $x \in W, \; y \in W $ for any $x, y \in V$. This paper proceeds the study of these submodules, and more generally of additive monoids, with emphasis on their archimedean classes and quotient structures.

Abstract:The property of a vector lattice of sufficiently many projections (SMP) is informed by restricting attention to archimedean $A$ with a distinguished weak order unit $u$ (the class, or category, $\bf{W}$), where the Yosida representation $A \leq D(Y(A,u))$ is available. Here, $A$ SMP is equivalent to $Y(A,u)$ having a $\pi$-base of clopen sets of a certain type called ``local". If the unit is strong, all clopen sets are local and $A$ is SMP if and only if $Y(A,u)$ has clopen $\pi$-base, a property we call $\pi$-zero-dimensional ($\pi$ZD). The paper is in two parts: the first explicates the similarities of SMP and $\pi$ZD; the second consists of examples, including $\pi$ZD but not SMP, and constructions of many SMP's which seem scarce in the literature.

Equivalence of Order and Algebraic Properties in Ordered *-Algebras

Abstract:The aim of this article is to describe a class of *-algebras that allows to treat well-behaved algebras of unbounded operators independently of a representation. To this end, Archimedean ordered *-algebras (*-algebras whose real linear subspace of Hermitian elements are an Archimedean ordered vector space with rather weak compatibilities with the algebraic structure) are examined. The order induces a translation-invariant uniform metric which comes from a C*-norm in the bounded case. It will then be shown that uniformly complete Archimedean ordered *-algebras have good order properties (like existence of infima, suprema or absolute values) if and only if they have good algebraic properties (like existence of inverses or square roots). This suggests the definition of Su*-algebras as uniformly complete Archimedean ordered *-algebras which have all these equivalent properties. All methods used are completely elementary and do not require any representation theory and not even any assumptions of boundedness, so Su*-algebras generalize some important properties of C^*-algebras to algebras of unbounded operators. Similarly, they generalize some properties of Phi-algebras (certain lattice-ordered commutative real algebras) to non-commutative ordered *-algebras. As an example, Su*-algebras of unbounded operators on a Hilbert space are constructed. They arise e.g. as *-algebras of symmetries of a self-adjoint (not necessarily bounded) Hamiltonian operator of a quantum mechanical system.

We generalize the Mazur–Ulam theorem and find necessary and sufficient conditions under which distance-preserving mappings between seminormed real vector spaces are linear.

Abstract:A variant of the Archimedean Positivstellensatz is proved which is based on Archimedean semirings or quadratic modules of generating subalgebras. It allows one to obtain representations of strictly positive polynomials on compact semi-algebraic by means of smaller sets of squares or polynomials. A large number of examples is developed in detail.

Abstract:In the category $\mathbf{V}$ of unital archimedean vector lattices, four notions of uniform completeness obtain. In all cases completeness requires the convergence of uniformly Cauchy sequences; the completions are distinguished by the manner in which the convergence is regulated. Ordinary uniform convergence is regulated by the canonical unit $1$. Inner relative uniform convergence, here termed iru-convergence, is regulated by an arbitrary positive element. Outer relative uniform convergence, here termed oru-convergence, is regulated by an arbitrary positive element of a vector lattice containing the given object as a sub-vector lattice. *-convergence is equivalent to ordinary uniform convergence on certain specified quotients of the vector lattice. In each case the complete objects form a full monoreflective subcategory of $\mathbf{V}$, denoted respectively $\mathbf{ucV}$, $\mathbf{irucV}$, $\mathbf{orucV}$, and $\mathbf{*cV}$. In this article we provide a unified development of these completions by means of a novel pointfree variant of the classical Yosida adjunction.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be an integral domain that is algebraic over [math]. It is shown that each directed maximal partial order on [math] is an Archimedean total order. Let [math] be a subfield of [math] and [math] be the complex field over [math]. As a consequence of the above result, if [math] is algebraic over [math], then [math] does not have a directed partial order making it a partially ordered ring. In particular, [math] cannot be a lattice-ordered ring. The result is proved for certain partially ordered algebras of quaternions as well.

Non-Archimedean analogue of the space of valuations on convex sets

Abstract:In the last two decades a number of structures on the classical space of translation invariant valuations on convex bodies were discovered, e.g. product, convolution, a Fourier type transform. In this paper a non-Archimedean analogue of the space of such (even) valuations with similar structures is constructed. It is shown that, like in the classical case, the new space equipped with either product or convolution satisfies Poincaré duality and hard Lefschetz theorem.

Abstract:The Archimedean property is one of the most beautiful axioms of the classical arithmetic and some of the methods of constructing the field of real numbers are based on this property. It is well-known that every Archimedean `-group is abelian and every pseudo-MV algebra is commutative. The aim of this paper is to introduce the Archimedean property for pseudo-MTL algebras and FLw-algebras. The main results consit of proving that there exist non-commutative Archimedean FLw-algebras. We also prove that any locally finite FLw-algebra is Archimedean.

Abstract:It is proved that: each collectively order continuous set of operators from an Archimedean ordered vector space to an ordered vector space is collectively order bounded; each collectively order to norm bounded set of operators from an ordered Banach space with a closed generating cone to a normed space is norm bounded; collectively r-continuous sets agree with collectively order bounded ones when the space in the range has a generating cone. Several applications to operator semigroups are given.

Archimedean Representation Theorem for modules over a commutative ring

Abstract:Pólya's Positivstellensatz and Handelman's Positivstellensatz are known to be concrete instances of the abstract Archimedean Representation Theorem for (commutative unital) rings. We generalise the Archimedean Representation Theorem to modules over rings. For example, consider the module of all symmetric matrices with entries in a polynomial ring, also known as matrix polynomials. Pólya's Positivstellensatz and Handelman's Positivstellensatz had been generalised by Scherer and Hol, and Lê and Du' respectively to matrix polynomials, using the method of effective estimates from analysis. We show that these two Positivstellensätze for matrix polynomials are concrete instances of our Archimedean Representation Theorem in the case of the module of symmetric matrix polynomials over the polynomial ring.

Abstract:Let $U_{FNA}$ be the class of all non-archimedean finite-dimensional Banach spaces. A non-archimedean Gurarii Banach space $G$ over a non-archimedean valued field $K$ is constructed, i.e. a non-archimedean Banach space $G$ of countable type which is of almost universal disposition for the class $U_{FNA}$. This means: for every isometry $g : X \to Y$ , where $Y \in U_{FNA}$ and $X$ is a subspace of $G$, and every $\varepsilon \in (0,1)$ there exists an $\varepsilon$-isometry $f : Y \to G$ such that $f(g(x)) = x$ for all $x \in X$. We show that all non-archimedean Banach spaces of almost universal disposition for the class $U_{FNA}$ are $\varepsilon$-isometric. Furthermore, all non-archimedean Banach spaces of almost universal disposition for the class $U_{FNA}$ are isometrically isomorphic if and only if $K$ is spherically complete and $\{|\lambda| : \lambda \in K \setminus \{0\} \} = (0,\infty)$.

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Normed linear spaces which are isometric to order unit spaces

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the linear direct sum of a real normed linear space with an order unit space and with a base normed space to obtain respectively a new order unit space and a new base normed space. As a consequence, we find that an $\ell_1$-space may be shown to be an order unit space. (However, not in the natural order.) Dually, an $\ell_{\infty}$-space may be shown to be a base normed space. To understand this aberration, we characterize the real normed linear spaces which are isometrically isomorphic to order unit spaces. We prove that other than the classical case of $\ell_{\infty}$, $\ell_1$ is also isometrically isomorphic to an order unit space whereas $\ell_2$ is not isometrically isomorphic to any order unit space.

Abstract:Riesz homomorphisms on vector lattices have been generalized to Riesz* homomorphisms on ordered vector spaces by van Haandel using a condition on sets of finitely many elements. Van Haandel attempted to prove that it suffices to take sets of two elements. We show that this is not true, in general. The description by two elements motivates to introduce mild Riesz* homomorphisms. We investigate their properties on order unit spaces, where the geometry of the dual cone plays a crucial role. Hereby, we mostly focus on the finite-dimensional case.

Abstract:In this paper, new purely topological approaches are furnished in order to characterize self-majorizing elements in an Archimedean vector lattice A . More precisely, it is shown that an element $0<f\in a$ is a self-majorizing element if and only if every f -maximal order ideal of A is relatively uniformly closed. In addition, it is proved that self-majorizing elements are characterized via the hull–kernel topology on both the set of all proper prime order ideals and on the set of all g -maximal order ideals of A , for all In fact, the set of all prime order ideals of A not containing f (respectively, the set of all g -maximal order ideals of A not containing f , for all is a closed with respect to the hull–kernel topology on (respectively, on if and only if f is a self-majorizing element in A .

Reworking on affine exterior algebra of Grassmann, Peano and his school

Abstract:In this paper a construction of affine exterior algebra of Grassmann, with a special attention to the revisitation of this subject operated by Peano and his School, is examined from a historical viewpoint. Even if the exterior algebra over a vector space is a well known concept, the construction of an exterior algebra over an affine space, in which points and vectors coexist, has been neglected. This paper wants to fill this lack. Some attention is given to the introduction of defining by abstraction (today called definition by quotienting or by equivalence relation), a procedure due to and used by Peano to define geometric forms, basic elements of an affine exterior algebra. This Peano's innovative way of defining, is a relevant contribution to mathematics. It is observed that in the construction of an affine exterior algebra on the Euclidean three-dimensional space, Grassmann and Peano make use of metric concepts: an accurate analysis shows that, in some cases, the metric aspects can be eliminated, putting into evidence the sufficiency of the underlying affine structure of the Euclidean space. In the final part of the paper some geometrical and mechanical applications and interpretations of the affine exterior algebra given by Grassmann and Peano are presented.
