Abstract:The aim of this paper is to try to establish a generic model for the problem that several multivariable number-theoretic functions represent simultaneously primes for infinitely many integral points. More concretely, we introduced briefly the research background-the history and current situation-from Euclid's second theorem to Green-Tao theorem. We analyzed some equivalent necessary conditions that irreducible univariable polynomials with integral coefficients represent infinitely many primes, found new necessary conditions which perhaps imply that there are only finitely many Fermat primes, obtained an analogy of the Chinese Remainder Theorem, generalized Euler's function, the prime-counting function and Schinzel-Sierpinski's Conjecture and so on. Nevertheless, this is only a beginning and it miles to go. We hope that number theorists consider further it.

Abstract:While the prime numbers have been subject to mathematical inquiry since the ancient Greeks, the accumulated effort of understanding these numbers has - as Marcus du Sautoy recently phrased it - 'not revealed the origins of what makes the primes tick.' Here, we suggest that a resolution to this long-standing conundrum is attainable by defining the primes prior to the natural numbers - as opposed to the standard number theoretical definition of primes where these numbers derive from the natural numbers. The result is a first-principles perspective on the primes that exposes and explains the 'origins' of their distribution and their mathematical properties and provides an intuitive as well as pedagogical approach to the primes with the potential to impact our thinking about these age-old mathematical objects. A few immediate outcomes of this perspective are another proof of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, a probabilistic model of primes sharing as well as explaining their subrandom correlation structure, and an equivalent formulation of the Riemann hypothesis.

Abstract:Zhang has shown there are infinitely many intervals of bounded length containing two primes. It appears that the current techniques cannot prove that there are infinitely many intervals of bounded length containing three primes, even if strong conjectures such as the Elliott-Halberstam conjecture are assumed. We show that there are infinitely many intervals of length at most $10^8$ which contain two primes and a number with at most 31 prime factors.

Abstract:Ferrers diagrams are used to visually represent integer partitions. We describe a way to use Ferrers diagrams to uniquely represent integers in terms of their prime factors. This leads to a lower bound on the number of primes less than a given integer, namely $\pi(x) \geq \frac{\lfloor \lg x \rfloor}{\lg (\lfloor \lg x \rfloor + 1)}$ where $\pi(x)$ is the prime counting function and $\lg(x)$ denotes the base 2 logarithm. This results in a new proof of the infinitude of primes.

On small gaps between primes and almost prime powers

Abstract:In a recent joint work with D.A. Goldston and C.Y. Yildirim we just missed by a hairbreadth a proof that bounded gaps between primes occur infinitely often. In the present work it is shown that adding to the primes a much thinner set, called almost prime powers, the union of the set of primes and almost prime powers contains already infinitely many bounded gaps. More precisely it is shown that if we add to the set of primes either almost prime squares having exactly two, nearly equal prime factors or if we add to the set of primes almost prime cubes having exactly three, nearly equal prime factors, then the resulting set contains already infinitely many bounded gaps.

Abstract:In 1876, Edouard Lucas showed that if an integer $b$ exists such that $b^{n-1} \equiv 1 (\mathrm{mod} \ n)$ and $b^{(n-1)/p} \not\equiv 1( \mathrm{mod} \ n)$ for all prime divisors $p$ of $n-1$ , then $n$ is prime, a result known as Lucas's converse of Fermat's little theorem. This result was considerably improved by Henry Pocklington in 1914 when he showed that it's not necessary to know all the prime factors of $n-1$ in order to determine if $n$ is prime. In this paper we optimize Pocklington's primality test for integers of the form $ap^{k}+1$ where $p$ is prime, $a<p$, $k\ge 1$. An extension of Lucas's converse of Fermat's little theorem is given. We also prove a new general-purpose primality test that requires that only a single odd prime divisor of $n-1$ be found for the test to be implemented. Contrary to the well-known result: There are infinitely many Fermat pseudoprimes to any base $b$; In this paper we prove the finitude of Fermat pseudoprimes in some forms of integers.

Abstract:We adopt an empirical approach to the characterization of the distribution of twin primes within the set of primes, rather than in the set of all natural numbers. The occurrences of twin primes in any finite sequence of primes are like fixed probability random events. As the sequence of primes grows, the probability decreases as the reciprocal of the count of primes to that point. The manner of the decrease is consistent with the Hardy--Littlewood Conjecture, the Prime Number Theorem, and the Twin Prime Conjecture. Furthermore, our probabilistic model, is simply parameterized. We discuss a simple test which indicates the consistency of the model extrapolated outside of the range in which it was constructed.

Abstract:Formal languages are sets of strings of symbols described by a set of rules specific to them. In this note, we discuss a certain class of formal languages, called regular languages, and put forward some elementary results. The properties of these languages are then employed to prove that there are infinitely many prime numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of functions defined recursively on the set of natural numbers in terms of the greatest common divisor algorithm of two numbers and requiring a minimality condition. These functions are permutations, products of infinitely many cycles that depend on certain breaks in the natural numbers involving the primes, and some special products of primes with a density of approximately $29.4\%$. We show that these functions split into only two equivalence classes (modulo the natural equivalence relation of eventually identical maps): one is the class of the identity map and the other is generated by a map whose discrete derivative is almost periodic with ``periods" the primorial numbers.

Abstract:Numbers (positive integers) are the most fundamental creatures of the human mind and the foundation to the scientific understanding of nature. Some mathematicians have suspected a link between prime numbers and secrets of creation. Understanding creativity may help resolve the deepest mysteries of primes. The algorithm that programs the mind and makes the mind creative must be sufficient for the mind to create primes. I found that primes are directly linked to the creation algorithm of the mind. The essence of primes is the duality of uniqueness and uniformity together with the creation algorithm of the mind. The creative process of the mind is lawfully determined but the outcome is unpredictable. The mathematical equivalent or model of this process is the creation of primes. Primes have the inherent property of unpredictability but can be generated by the creation algorithm of the mind, termed the Prime Law, via a fully deterministic lawful process. This new understanding of the essence of primes can deduce some of the best-known properties of primes, including the Riemann Hypothesis (RH). Understanding human creativity is obviously the most fundamental of all scientific enquiries. That this understanding can directly lead to a solution to the RH, widely considered the most important unsolved problem in mathematics, shows a deep connection between creativity and mathematics.

Abstract:We use Experimental Mathematics and Symbolic Computation (with Maple), to search for lots and lots of Perrin- and Lucas- style primality tests, and try to sort the wheat from the chaff. More impressively, we find quite a few such primality tests for which we can explicitly construct infinite families of pseudo-primes, rather, like in the cases of Perrin pseudo-primes and the famous Carmichael primes, only proving the mere existence of infinitely many of them.

Abstract:We study whether sufficiently large integers can be written in the form cp+T_x, where p is either zero or a prime congruent to r mod d, and T_x=x(x+1)/2 is a triangular number. We also investigate whether there are infinitely many positive integers not of the form (2^ap-r)/m+T_x with p a prime and x an integer. Besides two theorems, the paper also contains several conjectures together with related analysis and numerical data. One of our conjectures states that each natural number not equal to 216 can be written in the form p+T_x with x an integer and p a prime or zero; another conjecture asserts that any odd integer n>3 can be written in the form p+x(x+1) with p a prime and x a positive integer.

Abstract:We show the primes have level of distribution $66/107\approx 0.617$ using triply well-factorable weights. This gives the highest level of distribution for primes in any setting, improving on the prior record level $3/5=0.60$ of Maynard. We also extend this level to $5/8=0.625$, assuming Selberg's eigenvalue conjecture. As applications of the method, we obtain new upper bounds for twin primes and for Goldbach representations of even numbers $a$. For the Goldbach problem, this is the first use of a level of distribution beyond the square-root barrier, and leads to the greatest improvement on the problem since Bombieri-Davenport from 1966. Our proof optimizes the Deshouillers-Iwaniec spectral large sieve estimates, both in the exceptional spectrum and uniformity in the residue $a$, refining Drappeau-Pratt-Radziwill and Assing-Blomer-Li.
