Abstract:This thesis focuses on algebraic shifting and its applications to f-vector theory of simplicial complexes and more general graded posets. In particular, several approaches and partial results concerning the g-conjecture for simplicial spheres are presented here.

Abstract:We study algebraic shifting of uniform hypergraphs and finite simplicial complexes in the exterior algebra with respect to matrices which are not necessarily generic. Several questions raised by Kalai (2002) are addressed. For instance, it turns out that the combinatorial shifting of Erdős$\unicode{x2013}$Ko$\unicode{x2013}$Rado (1961) arises as a special case. Moreover, we identify a sufficient condition for partial shifting to preserve the Betti numbers of a simplicial complex; examples show that this condition is sharp.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group. If f : G -> C is a nonzero function with Fourier transform f, the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle states that |supp( f)||supp((f) over cap)| >= |G|. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we present the shift bound for abelian codes with a streamlined proof. Second, we use the shifting technique to prove a generalization and a sharpening of the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle. In particular, if f : G -> F is a non-zero function from G to a field F, and if f has a Fourier transform (f) over cap, the sharpened uncertainty principle states that |supp(f)|| supp((f) over cap)| >= | G|+| supp(f)|-| H(supp(f))|, where H(supp(f)) is the stabilizer of supp(f) in G.

Abstract:Using the unfolding method given in Huang and Li (Adv. Math. 340 , 221–283 2018 ), we prove the conjectures on sign-coherence and a recurrence formula respectively of g -vectors for acyclic sign-skew-symmetric cluster algebras. As a (following) consequence, the conjecture is affirmed in the same case which states that the g -vectors of any cluster form a basis of ℤ^n . Also, the additive categorification of an acyclic sign-skew-symmetric cluster algebra 𝒜(Σ) is given, which is realized as (𝒞^Q,Γ) for a Frobenius 2-Calabi-Yau category 𝒞^Q constructed from an unfolding ( Q ,Γ) of the acyclic exchange matrix B of 𝒜(Σ) .

Abstract:Abstract We introduce a family of cluster algebras of infinite rank associated with root systems of type , , . We show that suitable completions of these cluster algebras are isomorphic to the Grothendieck rings of the categories of the corresponding shifted quantum affine algebras. The cluster variables of a class of distinguished initial seeds are certain formal power series defined by E. Frenkel and the second author, which satisfy a system of functional relations called ‐system. We conjecture that all cluster monomials are classes of simple objects of . In the final section, we show that these cluster algebras contain infinitely many cluster subalgebras isomorphic to the coordinate ring of the open double Bruhat cell of the corresponding simple simply connected algebraic group. This explains the similarity between ‐system relations and certain generalized minor identities discovered by Fomin and Zelevinsky.

$f$-vectors of balanced simplicial complexes, flag spheres, and geometric Lefschetz decompositions

Abstract:We show that there are $f$-vectors of balanced simplicial complexes giving a source of simplicial complexes exhibiting a Boolean decomposition similar to a geometric Lefschetz decomposition. The objects we are working with are $h$-vectors of flag spheres and balanced simplicial complexes whose $f$-vectors are equal to them. This builds on work of Nevo--Petersen--Tenner on a conjecture of Nevo--Petersen that the gamma vector of an odd-dimensional flag sphere is the $f$-vector of a balanced simplicial complex (which was shown for barycentric subdivisions by Nevo--Petersen--Tenner). We can connect our decomposition to positivity questions on reciprocal/palindromic polynomials associated to flag spheres and geometric questions motivating them. In addition, we note that the degrees in the Lefschetz-like decomposition are not halved unlike the usual $h$-vector setting.

Abstract:We study a particular group law on formal power series in non-commuting variables induced by their interpretation as linear forms on a suitable graded connected word Hopf algebra. This group law is left-linear and is therefore associated to a pre-Lie structure on formal power series. We study these structures and show how they can be used to recast in a group theoretic form various identities and transformations on formal power series that have been central in the context of non-commutative probability theory, in particular in Voiculescu's theory of free probability.

The linear Shafarevich conjecture for quasiprojective varieties and algebraicity of Shafarevich morphisms

Abstract:We prove that the universal cover of a normal complex algebraic variety admitting a faithful complex representation of its fundamental group is an analytic Zariski open subset of a holomorphically convex complex space. This is a non-proper version of the Shafarevich conjecture. More generally we define a class of subset of the Betti stack for which the covering space trivializing the corresponding local systems has this property. Secondly, we show that for any complex local system $V$ on a normal complex algebraic variety $X$ there is an algebraic map $f \colon X\to Y$ contracting precisely the subvarieties on which $V$ is isotrivial.

Abstract:We mainly introduce an abstract pattern to study cluster algebras. Cluster algebras, generalized cluster algebras and Laurent phenomenon algebras are unified in the language of generalized Laurent phenomenon algebras (briefly, GLP algebras) from the perspective of Laurent phenomenon. In this general framework, we firstly prove that each positive and d-vector-positive GLP algebra has the proper Laurent monomial property and thus its cluster monomials are linearly independent. Skew-symmetric cluster algebras are verified to be d-vector-positive, which gives the affirmation of Conjecture [conjd] in [FZ3] in this case. And since the positivity of skew-symmetric cluster algebras is well-known, the new proof is obtained for the linearly independence of cluster monomials of skew-symmetric cluster algebras. For a class of GLP algebras which are pointed, g-vectors of cluster monomials are defined. We verify that for any positive GLP algebra pointed at $t_0$, the g-vectors ${\bf g}_{1;t}^{t_0},\cdots, {\bf g}_{n;t}^{t_0}$ form a $\mathbb Z$-basis of $\mathbb Z^n$, and different cluster monomials have different g-vectors. As a direct application, we verify that Conjecture [conjg] in [FZ3] holds for skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras and acyclic sign-skew-symmetric cluster algebras.
Positivity and vanishing theorems in complex and algebraic geometry

Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:F-polynomials and g-vectors were defined by Fomin and Zelevinsky to give a formula which expresses cluster variables in a cluster algebra in terms of the initial cluster data. A quantum cluster algebra is a certain noncommutative deformation of a cluster algebra. In this paper, we define and prove the existence of analogous quantum F-polynomials for quantum cluster algebras. We prove some properties of quantum F-polynomials. In particular, we give a recurrence relation which can be used to compute them. Finally, we compute quantum F-polynomials and g-vectors for a certain class of cluster variables, which includes all cluster variables in type A quantum cluster algebras.

Abstract:We study tropical friezes and cluster-additive functions associated to symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrices in the framework of Fock-Goncharov duality in cluster algebras. In particular, we generalize and prove a conjecture of C. M. Ringel on cluster-additive functions associated to arbitrary Cartan matrices of finite type. For a Fock-Goncharov dual pair of positive spaces of finite type, we use tropical friezes and cluster-additive functions to explicitly express the Fock-Goncharov pairing between their tropical points and the bijections between global monomials on one and tropical points of the other.

Abstract:We show that the maximal shifts in the minimal free resolution of the quotients of a polynomial ring by a monomial ideal are subadditive as a function of the homological degree. This answers a question that has received some attention in recent years. To do so, we define and study a new model for the homology of posets, given by the so called synor complex. We also introduce an Eilenberg-Zilber type shuffle product on the simplicial chain complex of lattices.

Abstract:In this manuscript we study properties of multidimensional shifts. More precisely, we study the necessary and sufficient conditions for a shift to be sofic, i.e. the boundary between sofic shifts and effective ones. To this end, we use different versions of algorithmic complexity (a.k.a. Kolmogorov complexity). In the first part of the work we suggest new necessary conditions of soficness for multidimensional shift. These conditions are expressed in terms of Kolmogorov complexity with bounded ressources. We discuss several applications of this technique. In particular, we construct an example of a two-dimensional effective and non sofic shift that has a very low combinatorial complexity : the number of global admissible N x N patterns grows only polynomially in N. We also show that the technique developed by S.Kass and K.Madden is equivalent to a special case of our method. In the second part, we discuss properties of subshifts defined in terms of density of letters. More specifically, we study two-dimensional subshifts $S(\rho)$ in the binary alphabet (white and black cells) where a configuration is admissible if every pattern of size N x N contains at most $N^\rho$ black cells. We show that $S(^\rho)$ is sofic for every $\rho<1$. Moreover, all effectif subshifts of these shifts are also sofic. The proof of this result is principally based on the construction of a self-simulating point-fixed tile set, with several new ingredients: an ad hoc model of computation based on a non deterministic cellular automaton (which allows to implement efficiently massively parallel calculations) and some properties of flows in a specific type of planar graphs.

Gelfand-Fuks cohomology of vector fields on algebraic varieties

Abstract:For an affine algebraic variety, we introduce algebraic Gelfand-Fuks cohomology of polynomial vector fields with coefficients in differentiable $AV$-modules. Its complex is given by cochains that are differential operators in the sense of Grothendieck. Using the jets of vector fields, we compute this cohomology for varieties with uniformizing parameters. We prove that in this case, Gelfand-Fuks cohomology with coefficients in a tensor module decomposes as a tensor product of the de Rham cohomology of the variety and the cohomology of the Lie algebra of vector fields on affine space, vanishing at the origin. We explicitly compute this cohomology for affine space, the torus, and Krichever-Novikov algebras.

Inflations for representations of shifted quantum affine algebras

Abstract:Fix a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and let $\mathfrak{g}_J\subseteq\mathfrak{g}$ be a Lie subalgebra coming from a Dynkin diagram inclusion. Then, the corresponding restriction functor is not essentially surjective on finite-dimensional simple $\mathfrak{g}_J$-modules. In this article, we study Finkelberg-Tsymbaliuk's shifted quantum affine algebras $U_q^{\mu}(\mathfrak{g})$ and the associated categories $\mathcal{O}^{\mu}$ (defined by Hernandez). In particular, we introduce natural subalgebras $U_q^{\nu}(\mathfrak{g}_J)\,{\subseteq}\,U_q^{\mu}(\mathfrak{g})$ and obtain a functor $\mathcal{R}_J$ from $\mathcal{O}^{sh}\,{=}\bigoplus_{\mu}\mathcal{O}^{\mu}$ to $\bigoplus_{\nu}(U_q^{\nu}(\mathfrak{g}_J)\text{-Mod})$ using the canonical restriction functors. We then establish that $\mathcal{R}_J$ is essentially surjective on finite-dimensional simple objects by constructing notable preimages that we call inflations. We conjecture that all simple objects in $\mathcal{O}^{sh}_J$ (which is the analog of $\mathcal{O}^{sh}$ for the subalgebras $U_q^{\nu}(\mathfrak{g}_J)$) admit some inflation and prove this for $\mathfrak{g}$ of type A-B or $\mathfrak{g}_J$ a direct sum of copies of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and $\mathfrak{sl}_3$. We finally apply our results to deduce certain $R$-matrices and examples of cluster structures over Grothendieck rings.
