Abstract:The u-invariant of a field is the maximum dimension of ansiotropic quadratic forms over the field. It is an open question whether the u-invariant of function fields of p-aidc curves is 8. In this paper, we answer this question in the affirmative for function fields of non-dyadic p-adic curves.

Abstract:This paper completes the construction of $p$-adic $L$-functions for unitary groups. More precisely, in Harris, Li and Skinner [‘$p$-adic $L$-functions for unitary Shimura varieties. I. Construction of the Eisenstein measure’, Doc. Math.Extra Vol. (2006), 393–464 (electronic)], three of the authors proposed an approach to constructing such $p$-adic $L$-functions (Part I). Building on more recent results, including the first named author’s construction of Eisenstein measures and $p$-adic differential operators [Eischen, ‘A $p$-adic Eisenstein measure for unitary groups’, J. Reine Angew. Math.699 (2015), 111–142; ‘$p$-adic differential operators on automorphic forms on unitary groups’, Ann. Inst. Fourier (Grenoble)62(1) (2012), 177–243], Part II of the present paper provides the calculations of local $\unicode[STIX]{x1D701}$-integrals occurring in the Euler product (including at $p$). Part III of the present paper develops the formalism needed to pair Eisenstein measures with Hida families in the setting of the doubling method.
Strong u-invariant and Period-Index bound for complete ultrametric fields

Abstract:Let $k$ be a complete ultrametric valued field. Let u($k$) (resp. u_s($k$)) denote the u-invariant (resp. the strong u-invariant) of $k$. We give a description of this invariant for $k$ in terms of the u-invariant (resp. the strong u-invariant) of its residue field. Let $C$ be a curve over $k$ and $F$ = $k(C)$. We prove similar results for the u-invariant of $F$. For $l$ a prime away from the characteristic of the residue field of $k$, we obtain bounds for the Brauer-$l$-dimensions of $k$ and $F$.

Abstract:We define -adic or invariants for moduli spaces of one-dimensional sheaves on del Pezzo and K3 surfaces by means of integration over a non-archimedean local field . Our definition relies on a canonical measure on the -analytic manifold associated to and the invariants are integrals of natural gerbes with respect to . Abstract:In this paper we investigate some methods on calculating the spaces of generalized semi-invariant distributions on p-adic spaces. Using homological methods, we give a criterion of automatic extension of (generalized) semi-invariant distributions. Based on the meromorphic continuations of Igusa zeta integrals, we give another criteria with purely algebraic geometric conditions, on the extension of generalized semi-invariant distributions.
Universal quadratic forms over semi-global fields

Abstract:We study anisotropic universal quadratic forms over semi-global fields; i.e., over one-variable function fields over complete discretely valued fields. In particular, given a semi-global field $F$, we compute both the $m$-invariant of $F$ and the set of dimensions of anisotropic universal quadratic forms over $F$. We also define the strong $m$-invariant of a field $k$ and show that it behaves analogously to the strong $u$-invariant of $k$, defined by Harbater, Hartmann, and Krashen. Our main tool in this study is the local-global principle for isotropy of quadratic forms over a semi-global field with respect to particular sets of overfields.

Abstract:Let be a cuspidal, cohomological automorphic representation of an inner form G of over a number field F of arbitrary signature. Further, let be a prime of F such that G is split at and the local component of at is the Steinberg representation. Assuming that the representation is noncritical at , we construct automorphic -invariants for the representation . If the number field F is totally real, we show that these automorphic -invariants agree with the Fontaine–Mazur -invariant of the associated p-adic Galois representation. This generalizes a recent result of Spieß respectively Rosso and the first named author from the case of parallel weight to arbitrary cohomological weights.

Abstract:Using the idea of Sinnott, Gillard and Schneps, we prove the μ-invariant is zero for the two-variable primitive p-adic L-function constructed by Kang (2012), which arises naturally in the study of Iwasawa theory for an elliptic curve with complex multiplication (CM).

Abstract:We give several formulas for how Iwasawa $\mu$-invariants of abelian varieties over unramified $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-extensions of function fields change under isogeny. These are analogues of Schneider's formula in the number field setting. We also prove that the validity of the Birch--Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture (including the leading coefficient formula) over function fields is invariant under isogeny, without using the result of Kato--Trihan.

Abstract:Let $F/F^+$ be a CM extension and $H_{/F^+}$ a definite unitary group in three variables that splits over $F$. We describe Hecke isotypic components of mod $p$ algebraic modular forms on $H$ at first principal congruence level at $p$ and "minimal" level away from $p$ in terms of the restrictions of the associated Galois representation to decomposition groups at $p$ when these restrictions are tame and sufficiently generic. This confirms an expectation of local-global compatibility in the mod $p$ Langlands program. To prove our result, we develop a local model theory for multitype deformation rings and new methods to work with patched modules that are not free over their scheme-theoretic support.

Abstract:Let $p\geq 3$ be a prime. In this article, we introduce two arithmetic invariants (hyper-tame index and hyper-inertia index) of the hyper-algebraic elements in the $p$-adic Mal'cev-Neumann field $\mathbb{L}_p$. For $p$-adic algebraic numbers that generate abelian extensions and tamely ramified extensions of $\mathbb{Q}_p$, we calculate their hyper-tame indexes and hyper-inertia indexes.

Abstract:We propose a p-adic version of Duke's Theorem on the equidistribution of closed geodesics on modular curves. Our approach concerns quadratic fields split at p as well as a p-adic covering of the modular curve. We also prove an equidistribution result of Heegner points in the p-adic space attached to Shimura curves.

On the Non p-Rationality and Iwasawa Invariants of Certain Real Quadratic Fields

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, and $m,r \in \mathbb{Z}^+$ with $m$ coprime to $p$. In this paper we investigate the real quadratic fields $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{m^2p^{2r} + 1})$. We first show that for $m < C$, where constant $C$ depends on $p$, the fundamental unit $\varepsilon$ of $K$ satisfies the congruence $\varepsilon^{p-1} \equiv 1 \mod{p^2}$, which implies that $K$ is a non $p$-rational field. Varying $r$ then gives an infinite family of non $p$-rational fields. When $m = 1$ and $p$ is a non-Wieferich prime, we use a criterion of Fukuda and Komatsu to show that if $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$, then the Iwasawa invariants for cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ vanish. We conjecture that there are infinitely many $r$ such that $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$.

Abstract:The main goal of this article is to expand the theory of invariants of Artin-Schreier curves by giving a complete classification in genus 3 and 4. To achieve this goal, we first establish standard forms of Artin-Schreier curves and determine all isomorphisms between curves in this form. We then compute reconstructing systems of invariants for curves in each connected component of the strata of the moduli spaces for Artin-Schreier curves of genus 3 and 4 for $p>2$.

Abstract:We prove a form of the Weierstrass Preparation Theorem for normal algebraic curves over complete discrete valuation rings. While the more traditional algebraic form of Weierstrass Preparation applies just to the projective line over a base, our version allows more general curves. This result is then used to obtain applications concerning the values of u-invariants, and on the period–index problem for division algebras, over fraction fields of complete two-dimensional rings. Our approach uses patching methods and matrix factorization results that can be viewed as analogs of Cartan’s Lemma.

Abstract:Let Fp be the prime field of order p > 0 and G be an elementary abelian p -group. For some n -dimensional cohyperplane G -representations V over Fp , we show that Fp[V⊕V*]G , the invariant ring of a vector and a covector is a complete intersection by exhibiting an explicit generating set (in fact, a SAGBI basis) and exposing all relations among the generators.

Abstract:In this article we provide the complete proof of the result announced in arXiv:1210.7717 about the construction of scale invariant non-Gaussian generalized stochastic processes over three dimensional p-adic space. The construction includes that of the associated squared field and our result shows this squared field has a dynamically generated anomalous dimension which rigorously confirms a prediction made more than forty years ago, in an essentially identical situation, by K. G. Wilson. We also prove a mild form of universality for the model under consideration. Our main innovation is that our rigourous renormalization group formalism allows for space dependent couplings. We derive the relationship between mixed correlations and the dynamical systems features of our extended renormalization group transformation at a nontrivial fixed point. The key to our control of the composite field is a partial linearization theorem which is an infinite-dimensional version of the Koenigs Theorem in holomorphic dynamics. This is akin to a nonperturbative construction of a nonlinear scaling field in the sense of F. J. Wegner infinitesimally near the critical surface. Our presentation is essentially self-contained and geared towards a wider audience. While primarily concerning the areas of probability and mathematical physics we believe this article will be of interest to researchers in dynamical systems theory, harmonic analysis and number theory. It can also be profitably read by graduate students in theoretical physics with a craving for mathematical precision while struggling to learn the renormalization group.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. Let $f_1$ and $f_2$ be weight-two Hecke eigen-cuspforms with isomorphic residual Galois representations at $p$. Greenberg--Vatsal and Emerton--Pollack--Weston showed that if $p$ is a good ordinary prime for the two forms, the Iwasawa invariants of their $p$-primary Selmer groups and $p$-adic $L$-functions over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ are closely related. The goal of this article is to generalize these results to the anticyclotomic setting. More precisely, let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field where $p$ splits. Suppose that the generalized Heegner hypothesis holds with respect to both $(f_1,K)$ and $(f_2,K)$. We study relations between the Iwasawa invariants of the BDP Selmer groups and the BDP $p$-adic $L$-functions of $f_1$ and $f_2$.

Galois invariants of finite abelian descent and Brauer sets

Abstract:For a variety over a global field, one can consider subsets of the set of adelic points of the variety cut out by finite abelian descent or Brauer-Manin obstructions. Given a Galois extension of the ground field one can consider similar sets over the extension and take Galois invariants. In this paper, we study under which circumstances the Galois invariants recover the obstruction sets over the ground field. As an application of our results, we study finite abelian descent and Brauer-Manin obstructions for isotrivial curves over function fields and extend results obtained by the first and last authors for constant curves to the isotrivial case.
