Abstract:A Borg-Marchenko type uniqueness theorem (in terms of the Weyl function) is obtained here for the system auxiliary to the N-wave equation. A procedure to solve inverse problem is used for this purpose. The asymptotic condition on the Weyl function, under which the inverse problem is uniquely solvable, is completed by the new and simple sufficient condition on the potential, granting the fulfillment of this asymptotic condition. The evolution of the Weyl function is discussed and the solution of an initial-boundary value problem for the N-wave equation follows. Explicit solutions of the system are obtained. System with a shifted argument is treated.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to solve the problems of inverse problems and special solutions in the auxiliary system related to the nonlinear optical equation (N - wave equation). Specifically, the main objectives of the paper include:
1. **Prove the Borg - Marchenko - type uniqueness theorem**: Through the asymptotic conditions of the Weyl function, the paper obtains the Borg - Marchenko - type uniqueness theorem for the auxiliary system of the N - wave equation. This theorem shows that under certain conditions, the Weyl function can uniquely determine the potential function of the system.
2. **Solve the inverse problem**: The paper proposes a procedure for solving the inverse problem, that is, to recover the potential function of the system from a given Weyl function. For this purpose, the author introduces the generalized Weyl function and gives sufficient conditions under specific conditions, so that the inverse problem has a unique solution.
3. **Study the system with shift parameters**: The paper also discusses the evolution of the Weyl function of the auxiliary system with shift parameters and proves that in these systems, if the Weyl function of the initial system satisfies the asymptotic conditions, then the system with shift parameters also satisfies these conditions.
4. **Solve the initial - boundary value problem**: Based on the above results, the paper further solves the initial - boundary value problem of the N - wave equation on the quarter - plane and obtains an explicit solution.
5. **Construct an explicit solution**: The paper constructs an explicit solution of the auxiliary system by using the Darboux - Bäcklund transformation (GBDT method) and shows how to obtain the specific form of the Weyl function by constructing the Darboux matrix.
### Main formulas
- **N - wave equation**:
\[
[D, u_t]-[\tilde{D}, u_x]=[[D, u], [\tilde{D}, u]]
\]
where \(D\) and \(\tilde{D}\) are diagonal matrices, and \(u(x, t)\) is an \(m\times m\) matrix function.
- **Auxiliary system**:
\[
Y_x=(izD - \zeta(x))Y, \quad x\geq0
\]
where \(\zeta(x)\) is an \(m\times m\) matrix function.
- **Definition of the Weyl function**:
\[
\phi(z)=M(0, z)
\]
where \(M(x, z)\) satisfies the equation:
\[
M_x(x, z)=iz[D, M(x, z)]-\zeta(x)M(x, z)
\]
- **Borg - Marchenko - type uniqueness theorem**:
If two Weyl functions \(\phi_1(z)\) and \(\phi_2(z)\) satisfy on a certain ray:
\[
\phi_1(z)^{-1}-\phi_2(z)^{-1}=e^{-ilzD}O(z) \quad \text{when } |z|\to\infty
\]
then their corresponding potential functions \(\zeta_1(x)\) and \(\zeta_2(x)\) are equal on the interval \((0, l)\).
Through these studies, the paper provides an important theoretical basis for the theoretical analysis and practical application of the nonlinear optical equation and its auxiliary system.
