Abstract:In this paper, we present two kinds of total Chern forms $c(E,G)$ and $\mathcal{C}(E,G)$ as well as a total Segre form $s(E,G)$ of a holomorphic Finsler vector bundle $\pi:(E,G)\to M$ expressed by the Finsler metric $G$, which answers a question of J. Faran (\cite{Faran}) to some extent. As some applications, we show that the signed Segre forms $(-1)^ks_k(E,G)$ are positive $(k,k)$-forms on $M$ when $G$ is of positive Kobayashi curvature; we prove, under an extra assumption, that a Finsler-Einstein vector bundle in the sense of Kobayashi is semi-stable; we introduce a new definition of a flat Finsler metric, which is weaker than Aikou's one (\cite{Aikou}) and prove that a holomorphic vector bundle is Finsler flat in our sense if and only if it is Hermitian flat.

Abstract:Let G G be a compact connected Lie group with Lie algebra g \mathfrak {g} . The DG functors associated to different connections are related by an A ∞ A_\infty -natural isomorphism. This construction provides a categorification of the Chern-Weil homomorphism, which is recovered by applying the functor C W θ \mathscr {CW}_{\theta } to the endomorphisms of the constant ∞ \infty -local system.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Bismut–Zhang, which extends the Cheeger–Müller theorem on Ray–Singer torsion and Reidemeister torsion, to the case of infinite Galois covering spaces. Our result is stated in the framework of extended cohomology, and generalizes in this case a recent result of Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai. It does not use the determinant class condition and thus also (potentially) generalizes several results on L2-torsions due to Burghelea, Friedlander, Kappeler and McDonald. We combine the framework developed by Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai on the determinant of extended cohomology with the heat kernel method developed in the original paper of Bismut–Zhang to prove our result.
Chern correspondence for higher principal bundles

Abstract:The classical Chern correspondence states that a choice of Hermitian metric on a holomorphic vector bundle determines uniquely a unitary 'Chern connection'. This basic principle in Hermitian geometry, later generalized to the theory of holomorphic principal bundles, provides one of the most fundamental ingredients in modern gauge theory, via its applications to the Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau Theorem. In this work we study a generalization of the Chern correspondence in the context of higher gauge theory, where the structure group of the bundle is categorified. For this, we define connective structures on a multiplicative gerbe and propose a natural notion of complexification for an important class of 2-groups. Using this, we put forward a new notion of higher connection which is well-suited for describing holomorphic principal 2-bundles for these 2-groups, and establish a Chern correspondence in this way. As an upshot of our construction, we unify two previous notions of higher connections in the literature, namely those of adjusted connections and of trivializations of Chern-Simons 2-gerbes with connection.

Abstract:We develop a Chern-Weil theory for compact Lie group action whose generic stabilizers are finite in the framework of equivariant cohomology. This provides a method of changing an equivariant closed form within its cohomological class to a form more suitable to yield localization results. This work is motivated by our work on reproving wall crossing formulas in Seiberg-Witten theory, where the Lie group is the circle. As applications, we derive two localization formulas of Kalkman type for G = SU(2) or SO(3)-actions on compact manifolds with boundary. One of the formulas is then used to yield a very simple proof of a localization formula due to Jeffrey-Kirwan in the case of G = SU(2) or SO(3).
On Chern classes of Lagrangian fibered hyper-Kähler manifolds

Abstract:We study the rank stratification for the differential of a Lagrangian fibration over a smooth basis. We also introduce and study the notion of Lagrangian morphism of vector bundles. As a consequence, we prove some of the vanishing, in the Chow groups of a Lagrangian fibered hyper-Kähler variety $X$, of certain polynomials in the Chern classes of $X$ and the Lagrangian divisor, predicted by the Beauville-Voisin conjecture. Under some natural assumptions on the dimensions of the rank strata, we also establish nonnegativity and positivity results for Chern classes.

Abstract:We prove a general local rigidity theorem for pull-backs of homogeneous forms on reductive symmetric spaces under representations of discrete groups. One application of the theorem is that the volume of a closed manifold locally modelled on a reductive homogeneous space $G/H$ is constant under deformation of the $G/H$-structure. The proof elaborates on an argument given by Labourie for closed anti-de Sitter $3$-manifolds. The core of the work is a reinterpretation of old results of Cartan, Chevalley and Borel, showing that the algebra of $G$-invariant forms on $G/H$ is generated by ``Chern-Weil forms'' and ``Chern-Simons forms''.

Abstract:Many integrable theories can be formulated universally in terms of Lie algebraic root systems. Well-studied are conformally invariant scalar field theories of Toda type and their massive versions, which can be expressed in terms of simple roots of finite Lie and affine Kac-Moody algebras, respectively. Also, multi-particle systems of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland type, which require the entire root system in their formulation, are extensively studied. Here, we discuss recently proposed extensions of these models to similar systems based on hyperbolic and Lorentzian Kac-Moody algebras. We explore various properties of these models, including their integrability and their invariance with respect to infinite Weyl groups of affine, hyperbolic, and Lorentzian types.

An algebraic geometric realization of the Chern character

Abstract:Using symmetrized Grassmannians we give an algebraic geometric presentation, in the level of classifying spaces, of the Chern character and its relation to Chern classes. This allows one to define, for any projective variety $X$, a Chern character map from the "holomorphic K-theory of X to its morphic cohomology (introduced by Friedlander and Lawson). The holomorphic K-theory of $X$, introduced by Lawson, Lima-Filho and Michelsohn and also by Friedlander and Walker, is defined in terms a group-completion of the space of algebraic morphisms from X into BU. It has been further studied by the authors in a companion paper. Holomorphic K-theory sits between algebraic K-theory and topological K-theory in the same way that morphic cohomology sits between motivic cohomology and ordinary cohomology. Our constructions provide a bridge between these two worlds. We also realize Chern classes in the case where X is smooth, and establish a universal relation between the Chern character and the Chern classes. We use classical constructions with algebraic cycles and infinite symmetric products of projective spaces. The latter can be seen as the classifying space for motivic cohomology, and under this perspective our constructions are essentially motivic.
Chern connections and Chern curvature of the tangent bundle of almost complex manifolds

Abstract:The $\bar{\partial}_{_{J}}$ operator over an almost complex manifold induces canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. If the almost complex structure is integrable then the previous connections induce the canonical holomorphic structures of the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. For $p=1$ we can extend the corresponding connection to all Schur powers of the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms. Moreover using the canonical $\C$-linear isomorphism betwen the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms and the complex cotangent bundle $T^*_{X,J}$ we deduce canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the Schur powers of the complex cotangent bundle $T^*_{X,J}$. If the almost complex structure is integrable then the previous $(0,1)$-connections induces the canonical holomorphic structures of those bundles. In the non integrable case those $(0,1)$-connections induces just the holomorphic canonical structures of the restrictions of the corresponding bundles to the images of smooth $J$-holomorphic curves. We introduce the notion of Chern curvature for those bundles. The geometrical meaning of this notion is a natural generalisation of the classical notion of Chern curvature for the holomophic vector bundles over a complex manifold. We have a particular interest for the case of the tangent bundle in view of applications concerning the regularisation of $J$-plurisubharmonic fonctions by means of the geodesic flow induced by a Chern connection on the tangent bundle. This method has been used by Demailly in the complex integrable case. Our specific study in the case of the tangent bundle gives an asymptotic expanson of the Chern flow which relates in a optimal way the geometric obstructions caused by the torsion of the almost complex structure, and the non symplectic nature of the metric.

About extending the Chern-Weil classification to the simplicial principal bundles

Abstract:After introducing the simplicial manifolds, such as the different ways of defining the differential forms on them, we summarized a canonical way of calculating the characteristic classes of a $G$-principal bundle by computing them on the classifying bundle $EG\longrightarrow BG$. Finally, we calculated the first Pontryagin class on the classifying bundle of the Lie matrix groups and showed that for certain of them, the computed form is equal to the symplectic form on $BG$ given by some authors up to a constant coefficient.

On the Hilbert Space of the Chern-Simons Matrix Model, Deformed Double Current Algebra Action, and the Conformal Limit

Abstract:A Chern-Simons matrix model was proposed by Dorey, Tong, and Turner to describe non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall effect. In this paper we study the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model from a geometric quantization point of view. We show that the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model can be identified with the space of sections of a line bundle on the quiver variety associated to a framed Jordan quiver. We compute the character of the Hilbert space using localization technique. Using a natural isomorphism between vortex moduli space and a Beilinson-Drinfeld Schubert variety, we prove that the ground states wave functions are flat sections of a bundle of conformal blocks associated to a WZW model. In particular they solve a Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation. We show that there exists a natural action of the deformed double current algebra (DDCA) on the Hilbert space, moreover the action is irreducible. We define and study the conformal limit of the Chern-Simons matrix model. We show that the conformal limit of the Hilbert space is an irreducible integrable module of $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ with level identified with the matrix model level. Moreover, we prove that $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ generators can be obtained from scaling limits of matrix model operators, which settles a conjecture of Dorey-Tong-Turner. The key to the proof is the construction of a Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the conformal limit of the Hilbert space, which we expect to be equivalent to the $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the integrable $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ modules constructed by Uglov. We also characterize eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the matrix model Hilbert space with respect to a maximal commutative subalgebra of Yangian.

Extended Phase Space in General Gauge Theories

Abstract:In a recent paper, it was shown that in diffeomorphism-invariant theories, Noether charges associated with a given codimension-2 surface become integrable if one introduces an extended phase space. In this paper we extend the notion of extended phase space to all gauge theories with arbitrary combinations of internal and spacetime local symmetries. We formulate this in terms of a corresponding Atiyah Lie algebroid, a geometric object derived from a principal bundle which features internal symmetries and diffeomorphisms on an equal footing. In this language, gauge transformations are understood as morphisms between Atiyah Lie algebroids that preserve the geometric structures encoded therein. The extended configuration space of a gauge theory can subsequently be understood as the space of pairs $(\varphi, \Phi)$, where $\varphi$ is a Lie algebroid morphism and $\Phi$ is a field configuration in the non-extended sense. Starting from this data, we outline a very powerful, manifestly geometric approach to the extended phase space. Using this approach, we find that the action of the group of gauge transformations and diffeomorphisms on the symplectic geometry of any covariant theory is integrable. We motivate our construction by carefully examining the need for extended phase space in Chern-Simons gauge theories and display its usefulness by re-computing the charge algebra. We also describe the implementation of the configuration algebroid in Einstein-Yang-Mills theories.

Reflection Positivity and Chern-Simons Functional Integrals

Abstract:We show that a mathematical version of the formal Chern-Simons functional integral of Witten for manifolds equipped with a reflection may be constructed in terms of a reflection positive functional, associated to the quadratic term in the Chern-Simons Lagrangian, on an algebra of functions on a Banach space ${\bf A}$ of connections on the underlying 3-manifold. This construction yields a Hilbert space associated to a surface preserved by the reflection. A version of the cubic Bosonic interaction term in the Chern-Simons Lagrangian gives a self-adjoint operator on this Hilbert space, and by exponentiation, a unitary one parameter subgroup of operators. The vacuum expectation value of this one parameter subgroup is combined with an additional term associated to the ghost fields and their interaction, and an appropriate weak limit gives a partition function for the quantum field theory. This construction is nonperturbative. The theory is finite and does not require renormalization, as may be expected from perturbation theory. It is natural to ask whether the resulting partition function is related to the manifold invariants of Witten and Reshetikhin-Turaev, or whether a more elaborate construction may be needed.

Abstract:The $4$-dimensional semi-holomorphic Chern-Simons theory of Costello and Yamazaki provides a gauge-theoretic origin for the Lax connection of $2$-dimensional integrable field theories. The purpose of this paper is to extend this framework to the setting of $3$-dimensional integrable field theories by considering a $5$-dimensional semi-holomorphic higher Chern-Simons theory for a higher connection $(A,B)$ on $\mathbb{R}^3 \times \mathbb{C}P^1$. The input data for this theory are the choice of a meromorphic $1$-form $\omega$ on $\mathbb{C}P^1$ and a strict Lie $2$-group with cyclic structure on its underlying Lie $2$-algebra. Integrable field theories on $\mathbb{R}^3$ are constructed by imposing suitable boundary conditions on the connection $(A,B)$ at the $3$-dimensional defects located at the poles of $\omega$ and choosing certain admissible meromorphic solutions of the bulk equations of motion. The latter provides a natural notion of higher Lax connection for $3$-dimensional integrable field theories, including a $2$-form component $B$ which can be integrated over Cauchy surfaces to produce conserved charges. As a first application of this approach, we show how to construct a generalization of Ward's $(2+1)$-dimensional integrable chiral model from a suitable choice of data in the $5$-dimensional theory.

Extension of Chronological Calculus for Dynamical Systems on Manifolds

Abstract:We propose an extension of the Chronological Calculus, developed by Agrachev and Gamkrelidze for the case of $C^\infty$-smooth dynamical systems on finite-dimensional $C^\infty$-smooth manifolds, to the case of $C^m$-smooth dynamical systems and infinite-dimensional $C^m$-manifolds. Due to a relaxation in the underlying structure of the calculus, this extension provides a powerful computational tool without recourse to the theory of calculus in Fréchet spaces required by the classical Chronological Calculus. In addition, this extension accounts for flows of vector fields which are merely measurable in time. To demonstrate the utility of this extension, we prove a variant of Chow-Rashevskii theorem for infinite-dimensional manifolds.

Chern Simons Theory and the volume of 3-manifolds

Abstract: We give some applications of the Chern Simons gauge theory to the study of the set ${\rm vol}(N,G)$ of volumes of all representations $\rho\co\pi_1N\to G$, where $N$ is a closed oriented three-manifold and $G$ is either ${\rm Iso}_e\t{\rm SL_2(\R)}$, the isometry group of the Seifert geometry, or ${\rm Iso}_+{\Hi}^3$, the orientation preserving isometry group of the hyperbolic 3-space. We focus on three natural questions: (1) How to find non-zero values in ${\rm vol}(N, G)$? or weakly how to find non-zero elements in ${\rm vol}(\t N, G)$ for some finite cover $\t N$ of $N$? (2) Do these volumes satisfy the covering property in the sense of Thurston? (3) What kind of topological information is enclosed in the elements of ${\rm vol}(N, G)$? We determine ${\rm vol}(N, G)$ when $N$ supports the Seifert geometry, and we find some non-zero values in ${\rm vol}(N,G)$ for certain 3-manifolds with non-trivial geometric decomposition for either $G={\rm Iso}_+{\Hi}^3$ or ${\rm Iso}_e\t{\rm SL_2(\R)}$. Moreover we will show that unlike the Gromov simplicial volume, these non-zero elements carry the gluing information between the geometric pieces of $N$. For a large class 3-manifolds $N$, including all rational homology 3-spheres, we prove that $N$ has a positive Gromov simplicial volume iff it admits a finite covering $\t N$ with ${\rm vol}(\t N,{\rm Iso}_+{\Hi}^3)\ne \{0\}$. On the other hand, among such class, there are some $N$ with positive simplicial volume but ${\rm vol}(N,{\rm Iso}_+{\Hi}^3)=\{0\}$, yielding a negative answer to question (2) for hyperbolic volume.

Abstract:We study invariants defined by count of charged, elliptic $J$-holomorphic curves in locally conformally symplectic manifolds. We use this to define $\mathbb{Q} $-valued deformation invariants of certain complete Riemann-Finlser manifolds and their isometries and this is used to find some new phenomena in Riemann-Finlser geometry. In contact geometry this Gromov-Witten theory is used to study fixed Reeb strings of strict contactomorphisms. Along the way, we state an analogue of the Weinstein conjecture in lcs geometry, directly extending the Weinstein conjecture, and discuss various partial verifications. A counterexample for a stronger, also natural form of this conjecture is given.

Abstract:We present a new class of extended affine Weyl groups $\widetilde{W}^{(k,k+1)}(A_l)$ for $1\leq k <l$ and obtain an analogue of Chevalley-type theorem for their invariants. We further show the existence of Frobenius manifold structures on the orbit spaces of $\widetilde{W}^{(k,k+1)}(A_l)$ and also construct Landau--Ginzburg superpotentials for these Frobenius manifold structures.
