Abstract:We review model calculations of exclusive vector meson production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. We highlight differences and similarities between different dipole models and leading twist shadowing calculations. Recent color glass condensate calculations are presented with focus on effects from nuclear structure and azimuthal anisotropies driven by interference effects.

Abstract:We consider the fidelity of the vector meson dominance (VMD) assumption as an instrument for relating the electromagnetic vector-meson production reaction $e + p \to e^\prime + V + p$ to the purely hadronic process $V + p \to V+p$. Analyses of the photon vacuum polarisation and the photon-quark vertex reveal that such a VMD Ansatz might be reasonable for light vector-mesons. However, when the vector-mesons are described by momentum-dependent bound-state amplitudes, VMD fails for heavy vector-mesons: it cannot be used reliably to estimate either a photon-to-vector-meson transition strength or the momentum dependence of those integrands that would arise in calculations of the different reaction amplitudes. Consequently, for processes involving heavy mesons, the veracity of both cross-section estimates and conclusions based on the VMD assumption should be reviewed, e.g., those relating to hidden-charm pentaquark production and the origin of the proton mass.

Abstract:Taking into account the exchange forces between protons of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector type the cross sections of neutral and charged scalar mesons $a_0(980)$, $a_+(980)$, $f_0(980)$, $\sigma(600)$ production are calculated. The estimation for the facilities of moderately high energies such as PANDA and NICA are presented. Similar analysis is given for processes of charged and neutral Higgs boson production at high energy proton-proton colliders such as Tevatron, RHIC and LHC. The possible signal of neutral Higgs boson decay into two oppositely charged leptons of different kinds is discussed. Numerical estimations for parameters of modern colliders are given.

Abstract:Exclusive production of light vector mesons in deep inelastic scattering is calculated at next-to-leading order in the dipole picture in the limit of high photon virtuality. The resulting expression is free of any divergences and suitable for numerical evaluations. The higher-order corrections are found to be numerically important, but they can be mostly captured by the nonperturbative fit parameters describing the initial condition for the small-$x$ evolution of the dipole scattering amplitude. The vector meson production cross section is shown to depend only weakly on the meson distribution amplitude and the factorization scale. We also present phenomenological comparisons of our result to the existing exclusive $\phi$ and $\rho$ production data from HERA and find an excellent agreement at high virtualities.

Abstract: We calculate the coupling constants between the light vector mesons and heavy mesons within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rule in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. The sum rules are very stable with the variations of the Borel parameter and the continuum threshold. The extracted couplings will be useful in the study of the possible heavy meson molecular states. They may also helpful in the interpretation of the proximity of X(3872), Y(4260) and Z(4430) to the threshold of two charmed mesons through the couple-channel mechanism.
Vector meson production using the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation including the dipole orientation

Abstract:In this proceedings a solution of the target-rapidity Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation is presented considering the complete impact-parameter dependence, including the orientation of the dipole with respect to the impact-parameter vector. The target-rapidity formulation of the BK equation introduces non-locality in rapidity. Three different prescriptions are considered to take into account the rapidities preceding the initial condition. The solutions are used to compute the structure functions of the proton and the diffractive photo- and electro-production of J/{\psi} off protons. The predictions agree well with HERA data, confirming that the target-rapidity Balitsky-Kovchegov equation with the full impact-parameter dependence is a viable tool to study the small Bjorken-x limit of perturbative QCD at current facilities like RHIC and LHC as well as in future colliders like the EIC.

Associated vector meson and bound-free electron-positron pair photoproduction in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions

Abstract:In this letter we analyze the associated production of a vector meson with the bound - free $e^+e^-$ process in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions through the double scattering mechanism for the energy of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Such process is characterized by the presence of a meson and a positron in the final state and by a forward hydrogen - like ion with a distinct electric charge. We present our predictions for the total cross sections and rapidity distributions considering the rapidity ranges covered by the ALICE and LHCb detectors, which indicate that a future experimental analysis of the $\phi + e^+$ and $J/\Psi + e^+$ final states is feasible.

Abstract:Within a light-cone QCD formalism based on the Green function technique incorporating color transparency, coherence length effects and gluon shadowing we study electroproduction of vector mesons off nuclei. We found rather large color transparency effects in the range of Q^2 < 10-20 GeV^2. They are stronger at low than at high energies and can be easily identified by HERMES or at JLab. We provide predictions for incoherent and coherent vector meson production for future measurements.

Abstract:We argued that deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small values of Q squared is an essentially nonperturbative process and can be described, partially at least, by the vector meson dominance (VMD) model. We showed by the straightforward calculation that VMD model alone can successfully explain data on structure functions of DIS in a broad interval of x (5e-2 - 1e-4) for the region Q squared < 1 GeV squared. For a description of data at larger Q squared we used the two-component (VMD + perturbative QCD) approach. We showed that these two components can be separated if VMD is used in the aligned jet version. We took into account, in calculations of VMD component of structure functions, the excited states of the rho-meson and nondiagonal transitions between different members of the rho-meson family. Amplitudes of these transitions were obtained using a formalism of the light-front Bethe-Salpeter equation and the method of diffraction-scattering eigenstates. The perturbative QCD component was calculated using a framework of the colour dipole model with the dipole cross section having a Regge-type energy dependence. We presented results of the detailed comparison of our predictions with experimental data for structure functions of the nucleon. We obtained also approximate predictions for the structure functions in the region of very small x, up to 1e-9, and showed that nonperturbative component at such values of x is still relatively large and must be taken into account if Q squared is about few GeV squared or less.

Abstract:Heavy ion collisions are rich and complex systems that involve different aspects of QCD and electromagnetic phenomena. From head-on collisions to the case in which the nuclei miss each other, many of QCD and photo-induced probes are being actively investigated. In this contribution we briefly discuss both of these different topics and some of the CMS results on top quark production and vector meson photo-production, as well as the physics motivation to study these processes are presented.

Polarized vector meson production in semi-inclusive DIS

Abstract:We make a systematic calculation for polarized vector meson production in semi-inclusive lepton-nucleon deep inelastic scattering e-N→e-VX. We consider the general case of neutral current electroweak interactions at high energies which give rise to parity-violating effects. We present a general kinematic analysis for the process and show that the cross sections are expressed by 81 structure functions. We further give a parton model calculation for the process and show the results for the structure functions in terms of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions and fragmentation functions at the leading order and leading twist of perturbative quantum chromodynamics. The results show that there are 27 nonzero structure functions at this order, among which 15 are related to the tensor polarization of the vector meson. Thirteen structure functions are generated by parity-violating effects. We also present the result and a rough numerical estimate for the spin alignment of the vector meson.

Vector-like quarks: status and new directions at the LHC

Abstract:Experimental searches for vector-like quarks have until now only considered their decays into Standard Model particles. However, various new physics scenarios predict additional scalars, so that these vector-like quarks can decay to new channels. These new channels reduce the branching ratios into Standard Model final states, significantly affecting current mass bounds. In this article, we quantitatively assess the relevance and observability of single and pair production processes of vector-like quarks, followed by decays into both standard and exotic final states. We highlight the importance of large widths and the relative interaction strengths with Standard Model particles and new scalars. Then, we review the post-Moriond 2024 status of these models in light of available LHC data and discuss potential future strategies to enhance the scope of vector-like quark searches.

A Closer Look at Dark Vector Splitting Functions in Proton Bremsstrahlung

Abstract:High luminosity colliders and fixed target facilities using proton beams are sensitive to new weakly coupled degrees of freedom across a broad mass range. Among the various production modes, bremsstrahlung is particularly important for dark sector degrees of freedom with masses between 0.5 and 2.0 GeV, due to mixing with hadronic resonances. In this paper, we revisit the calculation of dark vector production via initial state radiation in non-single diffractive scattering, using an improved treatment of the splitting functions and timelike electromagnetic form-factors. The approach is benchmarked by applying an analogous calculation to model inclusive $\rho$-meson production, indicating consistency with data from NA27 in the relevant kinematic range.

Exclusive $J/Ψ$ and $ρ^0$ vector meson production using BK evolution theory

Abstract:Exclusive diffractive processes, such as exclusive vector meson production, serve as excellent probes of hadron structure within the perturbative regime of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The exclusive process involving light and heavy vector mesons, $e p \rightarrow e V(V=J/\Psi,\rho,\phi)$, has been investigated at the HERA accelerator facility. In this study, we focus on the theoretical prediction of exclusive $J/\Psi$ and $\rho^0$ vector meson production. Employing the color dipole description of deep inelastic scattering (DIS), we calculate both the differential cross-section and total cross-section of $J/\Psi$ and $\rho^0$ vector mesons, employing an analytical solution of the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation. Furthermore, we present the ratio of the longitudinal to the transverse cross-section for $J/\Psi$ and $\rho^0$ as a function of $Q^2$. Two well-known vector meson wave function models, Boosted Gaussian (BG) and Gaus-LC, have been integrated into our analysis, showing slight sensitivity to the chosen vector meson wave functions. Our theoretical predictions agree well with the available experimental data for vector meson production. The analytical solution of the BK equation proves reliable for the theoretical prediction of exclusive vector mesons within a specific range of $Q^2$.

Abstract:The global spin alignment of vector mesons has been observed by the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). It provides a unique opportunity to probe the correlation between the polarized quark and antiquark in the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (sQGP) produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions, opening a new window to explore the properties of sQGP. In addition, spin alignments of vector mesons have also been observed in other high-energy particle collisions such as $e^+e^-$ annihilations at high energies where hadron production is dominated by quark fragmentation mechanism. The results obtained are quite different from those obtained in heavy ion collisions where quark coalescence/combination mechanism dominates suggesting strong dependence on hadronization mechanisms. So comprehensive studies in different hadronization processes are needed. In this article, we present a brief review of theoretical and experimental advances in the study of vector meson's spin alignments in a variety of high-energy particle collisions, with emphasis on hadronization mechanisms.
