Abstract:Limit theorems for non-additive probabilities or non-linear expectations are challenging issues which have attracted a lot of interest recently. The purpose of this paper is to study the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm for a sequence of random variables in a sub-linear expectation space under a concept of extended independence which is much weaker and easier to verify than the independence proposed by Peng [20]. We introduce a concept of extended negative dependence which is an extension of the kind of weak independence and the extended negative independence relative to classical probability that has appeared in the recent literature. Powerful tools such as moment inequality and Kolmogorov's exponential inequality are established for these kinds of extended negatively independent random variables, and these tools improve a lot upon those of Chen, Chen and Ng [1]. The strong law of large numbers and the law of iterated logarithm are also obtained by applying these inequalities.
Zeros of generalized hypergeometric polynomials via finite free convolution. Applications to multiple orthogonality

Abstract:We address the problem of the weak asymptotic behavior of zeros of families of generalized hypergeometric polynomials as their degree tends to infinity. The main tool is the representation of such polynomials as a finite free convolution of simpler elements; this representation is preserved in the asymptotic regime, so we can formally write the limit zero distribution of these polynomials as a free convolution of explicitly computable measures. We derive a simple expression for the S-transform of the limit distribution, which turns out to be a rational function, and a representation of the Kampé de Fériet polynomials in terms of finite free convolutions. We apply these tools, as well as those from [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2309.10970" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.10970">arXiv:2309.10970</a>], to the study of some well-known families of multiple orthogonal polynomials (Jacobi-Piñeiro and multiple Laguerre of the first and second kinds), obtaining results on their zeros, such as interlacing, monotonicity, and asymptotics.

Abstract:We prove a multidimensional Poisson limit theorem in free probability, and define joint free Poisson distributions in a non-commutative probability space. We define (compound) free Poisson process explicitly, similar to the definitions of (compound) Poisson processes in classical probability. We proved that the sum of finitely many freely independent compound free Poisson processes is a compound free Poisson processes. We give a step by step procedure for constructing a (compound) free Poisson process. A Karhunen-Loeve expansion theorem for centered free Poisson processes is proved. We generalize free Poisson processes to a notion of free Poisson random measures (which is slightly different from the previously defined ones in free probability, but more like an analogue of classical Poisson random measures). Then we develop the integration theory of real-valued functions with respect to a free Poisson random measure, generalizing the classical integration theory to the free probability case. We find that the integral of a function (in certain spaces of functions) with respect to a free Poisson random measure has a compound free Poisson distribution. For centered free Poisson random measures, we can get a simpler and more beautiful integration theory.

Abstract:This manuscript includes some classical results we select apart from the new results we've found on the Analysis of Boolean Functions and Fourier-Entropy-Influence conjecture. We try to ensure the self-completeness of this work so that readers could probably read it independently. Among the new results, what is the most remarkable is that we prove that the entropy of a boolean function $f$ could be upper bounded by $O(I(f))+O(\sum\limits_{k}I_k(f)\log (1/I_k(f)))$.

Abstract:We examine the distributions of non-commutative polynomials of non-atomic, freely independent random variables. In particular, we obtain an analogue of the Strong Atiyah Conjecture for free groups thus proving that the measure of each atom of any $n \times n$ matricial polynomial of non-atomic, freely independent random variables is an integer multiple of $n^{-1}$. In addition, we show that the Cauchy transform of the distribution of any matricial polynomial of freely independent semicircular variables is algebraic and thus the polynomial has a distribution that is real-analytic except at a finite number of points.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for universality limits

Abstract:We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for universality limits for orthogonal polynomials on the real line and related systems. One of our results is that the Christoffel-Darboux kernel has sine kernel asymptotics at a point $\xi$, with regularly varying scaling, if and only if the orthogonality measure (spectral measure) has a unique tangent measure at $\xi$ and that tangent measure is the Lebesgue measure. This includes all prior results with absolutely continuous or singular measures. Our work is not limited to bulk universality; we show that the Christoffel-Darboux kernel has a regularly varying scaling limit with a nontrivial limit kernel if and only if the orthogonality measure has a unique tangent measure at $\xi$ and that tangent measure is not a point mass. The possible limit kernels correspond to homogeneous de Branges spaces; in particular, this equivalence completely characterizes several prominent universality classes such as hard edge universality, Fisher-Hartwig singularities, and jump discontinuities in the weights. The main part of the proof is the derivation of a new homeomorphism. In order to directly apply to the Christoffel-Darboux kernel, this homeomorphism is between measures and chains of de Branges spaces, not between Weyl functions and Hamiltonians. In order to handle limits with power law weights, this homeomorphism goes beyond the more common setting of Poisson-finite measures, and allows arbitrary power bounded measures.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic properties of monic orthogonal polynomials (OPs) with respect to some Freud weights when the degree of the polynomial tends to infinity, including the asymptotics of the recurrence coefficients, the nontrivial leading coefficients of the monic OPs, the associated Hankel determinants and the squares of $L^2$-norm of the monic OPs. These results are derived from the combination of the ladder operator approach, Dyson's Coulomb fluid approach and some recent results in the literature.

Abstract:Several authors are interested in the study of limiting distributions for large symmetrical random matrices. Our approach of studying limiting distributions is different and is related to the new concept of variance functions of Cauchy–Stieltjes Kernel (CSK) families of probabilities. By means of the variance functions machinery, some novel limiting probability measures are provided involving the free multiplicative law of large numbers, using both free and Boolean (additive and multiplicative) convolutions. Several examples of these limiting probability measures are given in the context of free probability.

Abstract:Consider a tuple ( Y 1 , … , Y d ) of normal operators in a tracial operator algebra setting with prescribed sizes of the eigenspaces for each Y i . We address the question what one can say about the sizes of the eigenspaces for any non-commutative polynomial P ( Y 1 , … , Y d ) in those operators? We show that for each polynomial P there are unavoidable eigenspaces, which occur in P ( Y 1 , … , Y d ) for any ( Y 1 , … , Y d ) with the prescribed eigenspaces for the marginals. We will describe this minimal situation both in algebraic terms - where it is given by realizations via matrices over the free skew field and via rank calculations - and in analytic terms - where it is given by freely independent random variables with prescribed atoms in their distributions. This allows us to draw many new conclusions about atoms in polynomials of free variables. In particular, we give a complete description of atoms in the free commutator and the free anti-commutator. Furthermore, our results do not only apply to polynomials, but more generally also to non-commutative rational functions. Since many random matrix models become asymptotically free in the large N limit, our results allow us to calculate the location and size of atoms in the asymptotic eigenvalue distribution of polynomials and rational functions in randomly rotated matrices. Applications to the Atiyah property and to the calculation of the spectrum of universal covers of graphs are also presented.

Abstract:We further study the orthogonal polynomials with respect to the generalized Airy weight based on the work of Clarkson and Jordaan [{\em J. Phys. A: Math. Theor.} {\bf 54} ({2021}) {185202}]. We prove the ladder operator equations and associated compatibility conditions for orthogonal polynomials with respect to the Laguerre-type weight of the form $w(x)=x^\lambda w_0(x),\;\la>-1, x\in\mathbb{R}^+$. By applying them to the generalized Airy polynomials, we are able to derive a discrete system for the recurrence coefficients. Combining with the Toda evolution, we establish the relation between the recurrence coefficients, the sub-leading coefficient of the monic generalized Airy polynomials and the associated Hankel determinant. Using Dyson's Coulomb fluid approach and with the aid of the discrete system for the recurrence coefficients, we obtain the large $n$ asymptotic expansions for the recurrence coefficients and the sub-leading coefficient of the monic generalized Airy polynomials. The large $n$ asymptotics (including the constant term) of the Hankel determinant has been derived by using a recent result in the literature. The long-time asymptotics of these quantities have also been discussed explicitly.

We first review the foundations of classical probability, notably with the main limiting theorems (CLT, CCLT, PLT, CPLT), and with a look into examples coming from Lie groups and random matrices. Then we present the foundations and main results of free probability, notably with free limiting theorems, and with a look into examples coming from quantum groups and random matrices. We discuss then a number of more advanced aspects, in relation with free geometry and with subfactor theory.

Lower Bounds for Weighted Chebyshev and Orthogonal Polynomials

Abstract:We derive optimal asymptotic and non-asymptotic lower bounds on the Widom factors for weighted Chebyshev and orthogonal polynomials on compact subsets of the real line. In the Chebyshev case we extend the optimal non-asymptotic lower bound previously known only in a handful of examples to regular compact sets and a large class weights. Using the non-asymptotic lower bound, we extend Widom's asymptotic lower bound for weights bounded away from zero to a large class of weights with zeros including weights with strong zeros and infinitely many zeros. As an application of the asymptotic lower bound we extend Bernstein's 1931 asymptotics result for weighted Chebyshev polynomials on an interval to arbitrary Riemann integrable weights with finitely many zeros and to some continuous weights with infinitely many zeros. In the case of orthogonal polynomials, we derive optimal asymptotic and non-asymptotic lower bound on arbitrary regular compact sets for a large class of weights in the non-asymptotic case and for arbitrary Szegő class weights in the asymptotic case, extending previously known bounds on finite gap and Parreau--Widom sets.

Central Limit Theorem for Tensor Products of Free Variables via Bi-Free Independence

Abstract:In this paper, a connection between bi-free probability and the asymptotics of random quantum channels and tensor products of random matrices is established. Using bi-free matrix models, it is demonstrated that the spectral distribution of certain self-adjoint quantum channels and tensor products of random matrices tend to a distribution that can be obtained by an averaged sum of products of bi-freely independent pairs. Subsequently, using bi-free techniques, a Central Limit Theorem for such operator is established.

The first aim is based on Riesz--Thorin's interpolation theorem, we prove new Hausdorff--Young type inequalities for the Quadratic Fourier transforms in (Ann. Funct. Anal. 2014;5(1):10--23) and linear canonical transforms in (Mediterr. J. Math. 2018;15,13), which were introduced by Castro et al. The second aim is to investigate the boundedness of the oscillatory integral operator with polynomial phases, which is also presented in the last section of the article.

Abstract:In this article, we present a general method for deriving Stein-like identity and Chernoff-like inequality based on orthogonal polynomials. In order to illustrate our method, some applications are given with respect to normal, Gamma, Beta, Poisson, binomial, and negative binomial distribution, not only for random variables but also for random vectors, resulting corresponding Stein-like identity and Chernoff-like inequality are obtained consequently. Within our best knowledge, some of our matrix version results are new in the literature. In addition, forward difference formulae of Charlier polynomials, Krawtchouk polynomials and Meixner polynomials, Stein-like identity, and Chernoff-like inequality with respect to Beta distribution, as well as Rodrigues formula of Meixner polynomials are also prepared in the first time within our limited information. Interestingly, as far as normal, Gamma, Beta, Poisson, binomial, and negative binomial distribution are concerned, we found that their Stein-like identity and corresponding Chernoff-like inequality are related closely, by examining their Rodrigues formula.
