Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:Let p : chi -> S be a proper Kahler fibration and epsilon -> chi a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. As motivated by the work of Berndtsson ([Bern09]), by using basic Hodge theory, we derive several general curvature formulas for the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) for general Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle epsilon in a simple way. A straightforward application is that, if the family chi -> S is infinitesimally trivial and Hermitian vector bundle epsilon is Nakano-negative along the base S, then the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) is Nakano-negative. We also use these curvature formulas to study the moduli space of projectively flat vector bundles with positive first Chern classes and obtain that, if the Chern curvature of direct image p(*)(K-X circle times E)-of a positive projectively flat family (E, h(t))(t is an element of D) -> X-vanishes, then the curvature forms of this family are connected by holomorphic automorphisms of the pair (X, E).

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.
Curvature Operators on Kähler Manifolds

Abstract:We prove that there exist Kähler manifolds that are not homotopy equivalent to a quotient of complex hyperbolic space but which admit a Riemannian metric with nonpositive curvature operator. This shows that Kähler manifolds do not satisfy the same type of rigidity with respect to the curvature operator as quaternionic hyperbolic and Cayley hyperbolic manifolds and are thus more similar to real hyperbolic manifolds in this setting. Along the way we also calculate explicit values for the eigenvalues of the curvature operator with respect to the standard complex hyperbolic metric.

Abstract:We study toroidal compactifications of finite volume complex hyperbolic manifolds. We obtain results on the existence or nonexistence of Kähler metrics satisfying certain nonpositive curvature properties on these compactifications. Starting from quotients of complex hyperbolic space by deep enough non-uniform arithmetic lattices, we also verify the Shafarevich conjecture for their compactifications, by showing that their universal covers are Stein.

Abstract:This paper investigates the curvature properties of higher direct images $ R^qf_*\Omega_{X/S}^p(E)$, where $f: X\rightarrow S$ is a family of compact Kähler manifolds equipped with a hermitian vector bundle $E \rightarrow X$. We derive a general curvature formula and explore several special cases, including those where $p + q = n$, $q = 0$, and $p = n$, with $E$ being a line bundle. Furthermore, the paper examines the curvature in the context of fiberwise hermitian flat cases, families of Hermite-Einstein vector bundles, and applications to moduli spaces and Weil-Petersson metrics, providing some insight into their geometric and analytical properties.

Abstract:We discuss problems that relate curvature and concentration properties of eigenfunctions and quasimodes on compact boundaryless Riemannian manifolds. These include new sharp $L^q$-estimates, $q\in (2,q_c]$, $q_c=2(n+1)/(n-1)$, of log-quasimodes that characterize compact connected space forms in terms of the growth rate of $L^q$-norms of such quasimode for these relatively small Lebesgue exponents $q$.

Abstract:In this article we continue the study of the two curvature notions for Kähler manifolds introduced by the first named author earlier: the so-called cross quadratic bisectional curvature (CQB) and its dual (^dCQB). We first show that compact Kähler manifolds with CQB_1>0 or ^dCQB_1>0 are Fano, while nonnegative CQB_1 or ^dCQB_1 leads to a Fano manifold as well, provided that the universal cover does not contain a flat de Rham factor. For the latter statement we employ the Kähler-Ricci flow to deform the metric. We conjecture that all Kähler C-spaces will have nonnegative CQB and positive ^dCQB. By giving irreducible such examples with arbitrarily large second Betti numbers we show that the positivity of these two curvature put no restriction on the Betti number. A strengthened conjecture is that any Kähler C-space will actually have positive CQB unless it is a ℙ^1 bundle. Finally we give an example of non-symmetric, irreducible Kähler C-space with b_2>1 and positive CQB, as well as compact non-locally symmetric Kähler manifolds with CQB<0 and ^dCQB<0.

Abstract:In the paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness results of the $C^{1,1}$ regular graphic hypersurface for Dirichlet problem of a class of degenerate Hessian quotient type curvature equations under the condition $\psi^{\frac{1}{k-l}}\in C^{1,1}(\overline{\Omega}\times\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^n)$. Specially, we also consider the second order derivative estimates for the corresponding degenerate Hessian type curvature equations under the optimal condition $\psi^{\frac{1}{k-1}}\in C^{1,1}(\overline{\Omega}\times\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^n)$.

On quaternionic bisectional curvature

Abstract:In this article we study the concept of quaternionic bisectional curvature introduced by B. Chow and D. Yang for quaternion-Kähler manifolds. We show that non-negative quaternionic bisectional curvature is only realized for the quaternionic projective space. We also show that all symmetric quaternion-Kähler manifolds different from the quaternionic projective space admit quaternionic lines of negative quaternionic bisectional curvature. In particular this implies that non-negative sectional curvature does not imply non-negative quaternionic bisectional curvature. Moreover we give a new and rather short proof of a classification result by A. Gray on compact Kähler manifolds of non-negative sectional curvature.

Abstract:The curvature estimates of quotient curvature equation do not always exist even for convex setting \cite{GRW}. Thus it is natural question to find other type of elliptic equations possessing curvature estimates. In this paper, we discuss the existence of curvature estimate for fully nonlinear elliptic equations defined by symmetric polynomials, mainlly, the linear combination of elementary symmetric polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we give an expression and some estimates of the curvature tensor of the Hodge metric over the moduli space of a polarized Calabi-Yau threefold. The symmetricity of the Yukawa coupling is also studied. In the last section of this paper, an extra restriction of the limiting Hodge structure for the degeneration of Calabi-Yau threefolds is given.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider mixed curvature $\mathcal{C}_{a,b}$, which is a convex combination of Ricci curvature and holomorphic sectional curvature introduced by Chu-Lee-Tam. We prove that if a compact complex manifold M admits a Kähler metric with quasi-positive mixed curvature and $3a+2b\geq0$, then it is projective. If $a,b\geq0$, then M is rationally connected. As a corollary, the same result holds for k-Ricci curvature. We also show that any compact Kähler manifold with quasi-positive 2-scalar curvature is projective. Lastly, we generalize the result to the Hermitian case. In particular, any compact Hermitian threefold with quasi-positive real bisectional curvature have vanishing Hodge number $h^{2,0}$. Furthermore, if it is Kählerian, it is projective.

Abstract:In this note, we study the relation between the existence of a negatively curved complete hermitian metric on a complex manifold M and the product structure of (or contained in) M. We introduce the concept of geometric ranks and give a curvature characterization of the rank one manifolds, which generalizes the previous results of P. Yang and N. Mok (see below). In the proof, we used the old techniques of Yau's Schwartz lemma and Cheng-Yau's result on the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics.

Abstract:We study the hyperbolicity of singular quotients of bounded symmetric domains. We give effective criteria for such quotients to satisfy Green-Griffiths-Lang's conjectures in both analytic and algebraic settings. As an application, we show that Hilbert modular varieties, except for a few possible exceptions, satisfy all expected conjectures.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of Ricci curvature lower bound for symmetric sub-Markovian semigroups. We use this notion to investigate functional calculus of the Hodge-Dirac operator associated to the semigroup in link with the boundedness of suitable Riesz transforms. Our paper offers a unified framework that not only encapsulates existing results in some contexts but also yields new findings in others. This is demonstrated through applications in the frameworks of Riemannian manifolds, compact (quantum) groups, noncommutative tori, Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroups and semigroups of Schur multipliers. We also provide an $\mathrm{L}^p$-Poincaré inequality that is applicable to all previously discussed contexts under assumptions of boundedness of Riesz transforms and uniform exponential stability. Finally, we prove the boundedness of some Riesz transforms in some contexts as compact Lie groups.

Uniform Bounds for Weil–Petersson Curvatures

Abstract:We find bounds for Weil–Petersson holomorphic sectional curvature, and the Weil–Petersson curvature operator in several regimes, that do not depend on the topology of the underlying surface. Among other results, we show that the minimal Weil–Petersson holomorphic sectional curvature of a sufficiently thick hyperbolic surface is comparable to −1 , independently of the genus. This provides a counterexample to some suggestions that the Weil–Petersson metric becomes asymptotically flat, as the genus g goes to infinity, in the thick loci in Teichmüller space. Adopting a different perspective on curvature, we also show that the minimal (most negative) eigenvalue of the curvature operator at any point in the Teichmüller space Teich(Sg) of a closed surface Sg of genus g is uniformly bounded away from zero. Restricting to a thick part of Teich(Sg) , we show that the minimal eigenvalue is uniformly bounded below by an explicit constant which does not depend on the topology of the surface but only on the given bound on injectivity radius.
