Abstract:Pseudo-holomorphic curves on almost complex manifolds have been much more intensely studied than their "dual" objects, the plurisubharmonic functions. These functions are defined classically by requiring that the restriction to each pseudo-holomorphic curve is subharmonic. In this paper subharmonic functions are defined by applying the viscosity approach to a version of the complex hessian which exists intrinsically on any almost complex manifold. Three theorems are proved. The first is a restriction theorem which establishes the equivalence of our definition with the "classical" definition. In the second theorem, using our "viscosity" definitions, the Dirichlet problem is solved for the complex Monge-Ampère equation in both the homogeneous and inhomogeneous forms. These two results are based on theorems found in two recent papers of the authors. Finally, it is shown that the plurisubharmonic functions considered here agree with the plurisubharmonic distributions. In particular, this proves a conjecture of Nefton Pali.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce several various classes of $c$-almost periodic type functions and their Stepanov generalizations, where $c\in {\mathbb C}$ and $|c|=1.$ We also consider the corresponding classes of $c$-almost periodic type functions depending on two variables and prove several related composition principles. Plenty of illustrative examples and applications are presented.

Abstract:Let $S(z)$ be an absolutely convergent Dirichlet series with a bounded spectrum and only real zeros $a_n$, let $\mu$ be the sum of unit masses at points $a_n$. It is proven that the Fourier transform $\hat\mu$ in the sense of distributions is a purely point measure. Conversely, in terms of the properties of $\hat\mu$, a sufficient condition was found when $a_n$ are zeros of an absolutely convergent Dirichlet series with bounded spectrum. Also, in terms of the properties of $\hat\mu$, a criterion is established that $a_n$ are zeros of an almost periodic entire function of exponential growth. In all cases, the multiplicity of zeros is taken into account. Almost periodic sets, introduced by B.Levin and M.Krein in 1948, play important role in our investigations. In particular, we show a new simple representation of such sets.

Abstract:Given a self-map of a compact metric space $X$, we study periodic points of the map induced on the hyperspace of closed subsets of $X$. We give some necessary conditions on admissible sets of periods for these maps. Seemingly unrelated to this, we construct an almost totally minimal homeomorphism of the Cantor set. We also apply our theory to give a full description of admissible period sets for induced maps of the interval maps. The description of admissible periods is also given for maps induced on symmetric products.

Abstract:In this article we focus mainly on the class of almost periodic functions in view of the Lebesgue measure (briefly: -a.p. functions) and on some if its subclasses. We are going to deal with autonomous superposition operators acting in the space of -a.p. functions. We will indicate necessary and sufficient conditions under which the autonomous superposition operator maps the space under consideration into itself as well as conditions under which it is continuous. As a corollary from these results we indicate when the autonomous superposition operator defined on that space is a bijection. Next, we will analyse in detail the situation when the composition of -a.p. function with a continuous function or with a homeomorphism gives a Stepanov almost periodic function. As an application of our results we indicate a subclass of -a.p. functions for which linear differential equations with a non-homogeneous term belonging to this subclass may not have -a.p. solutions.

Abstract:We employ almost periodicity to establish analogues of the Hardy--Stein identity and the Littlewood--Paley formula for Hardy spaces of Dirichlet series. A construction of Saksman and Seip shows that the limits in this Littlewood--Paley formula cannot be interchanged. We apply this construction to show that the limits in the definition of the mean counting function for Dirichlet series cannot be interchanged. These are essentially statements about the two different kinds of boundary values that we associate with Dirichlet series that converge to a bounded analytic function in a half-plane. The treatment of the mean counting function also involves an investigation of the zero sets and Blaschke products of such Dirichlet series.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce an equivalence relation on the classes of almost periodic functions of a real or complex variable which is used to refine Bochner's result that characterizes these spaces of functions. In fact, with respect to the topology of uniform convergence, we prove that the limit points of the family of translates of an almost periodic function are precisely the functions which are equivalent to it, which leads us to a characterization of almost periodicity. In particular we show that any exponential sum which is equivalent to the Riemann zeta function, $\zeta(s)$, can be uniformly approximated in $\{s=\sigma+it:\sigma>1\}$ by certain vertical translates of $\zeta(s)$.

Abstract:By means of hypercyclic operator theory, we complement our previous results on hypercyclic holomorphic maps between complex Euclidean spaces having slow growth rates,by showing {\it abstract abundance} rather than {\it explicit existence}. Next, we establish that, in the space of holomorphic maps from $\mathbb{C}^n$ to any connected Oka manifold $Y$, equipped with the compact-open topology, there exists a {\em dense} subset consisting of common {\em frequently hypercyclic} elements for all nontrivial translation operators. To our knowledge, this is new even for $n=1$ and $Y=\mathbb{C}$.

Abstract:Criteria are given for a mapping to have bounded distortion in terms of an integral estimate of the multiplicity function without any a priori assumption on the differential properties of the mapping. The result is most lucid and final in a sense for complex functions f :Δ⊂ C → C of one complex variable. Generalizations to multidimensional Beltrami systems are suggested.

Abstract:Consider the nonautonomous semilinear evolution equation of type: $(\star) \; u'(t)=A(t)u(t)+f(t,u(t)), \; t \in \mathbb{R},$ where $ A(t), \ t\in \mathbb{R} $ is a family of closed linear operators in a Banach space $X$, the nonlinear term $f$, acting on some real interpolation spaces, is assumed to be almost periodic just in a weak sense (i.e. in Stepanov sense) with respect to $t$ and Lipschitzian in bounded sets with respect to the second variable. We prove the existence and uniqueness of almost periodic solutions in the strong sense (Bohr sense) for equation $ (\star) $ using the exponential dichotomy approach. Then, we establish a new composition result of Stepanov almost periodic functions by assuming just the continuity of $f$ in the second variable. Moreover, we provide an application to a nonautonomous system of reaction-diffusion equations describing a Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model with diffusion and time-dependent parameters in a generalized almost periodic environment.

Abstract:Structural stability of holomorphic functions has been the subject of much research in the last fifty years. Due to various technicalities, however, most of that work has focused on so-called finite-type functions (functions whose set of singular values has finite cardinality). Recent developments in the field go beyond this setting. In this paper we extend Eremenko and Lyubich's result on natural families of entire maps to the case where the set of singular values is not the entire complex plane, showing under this assumption that the set $M_f$ of entire functions quasiconformally equivalent to $f$ admits the structure of a complex manifold (of possibly infinite dimension). Moreover, we will consider functions with wandering domains -- another hot topic of research in complex dynamics. Given an entire function $f$ with a simply connected wandering domain $U$, we construct an analogue of the multiplier of a periodic orbit, called a distortion sequence, and show that, under some hypotheses, the distortion sequence moves analytically as $f$ moves within appropriate parameter families.

Abstract:Let $\mu$ be a positive measure on the real line with locally finite support $\Lambda$ and integer masses such that its Fourier transform in the sense of distributions is a purely point measure. An explicit form is found for an entire almost periodic function with a set of zeros $\Lambda$, taking multiplicities into account. A necessary and sufficient condition for the exponential growth of this function is also found. Our constructions are based on the properties of almost periodic sets on the line. In particular, in the article we find a simple representation of such sets.

Abstract:In this paper, we first propose two types of concepts of almost periodic functions on the quantum time scale. Secondly, we study some basic properties of almost periodic functions on the quantum time scale. Thirdly, based on these, we study the existence and uniqueness of almost periodic solutions of dynamic equations on the quantum time scale by Lyapunov method. Then, we give an equivalent definition of almost periodic functions on the quantum time scale. Finally, as an application, we propose a class of high-order Hopfield neural networks on the quantum time scale and establish the existence and global exponential stability of almost periodic solutions of this class of neural networks.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the existence and uniqueness of positive (Bohr) almost periodic solutions to a class of semilinear evolution equations of the form: u′(t)=A(t)u(t)+f(t,u(t)),t∈R . We assume that the family of closed linear operators (A(t))t∈R on a Banach lattice X satisfies the "Acquistapace–Terreni" conditions, so that the associated evolution family is positive and has an exponential dichotomy on R . The nonlinear term f , acting on certain real interpolation spaces, is assumed to be almost periodic only in a weaker sense (i.e., in Stepanov's sense) with respect to t , and Lipschitzian in bounded sets with respect to the second variable. Moreover, we prove a new composition result for Stepanov almost periodic functions by assuming only continuity of f with respect to the second variable (see the condition Lemma 1‐(ii)). Finally, we provide an application to a system of Lotka–Volterra predator–prey type model with diffusion and time–dependent parameters in a generalized almost periodic environment.

Abstract:Holomorphic almost modular forms are holomorphic functions of the complex upper half plane that can be approximated arbitrarily well (in a suitable sense) by modular forms of congruence subgroups of large index in SL(2,Z). It is proved that such functions have a rotation‐invariant limit distribution when the argument approaches the real axis. An example of a holomorphic almost modular form is the logarithm of ∏n=1∞(1−exp(2π i n2z)). The paper is motivated by the author's previous studies [Int. Math. Res. Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to consider the classes of quasi-asymptotically almost periodic functions and Stepanov quasi-asymptotically almost periodic functions in Banach spaces. These classes extend the well known classes of asymptotically almost periodic functions, Stepanov asymptotically almost periodic functions and S-asymptotically <span class="InlineEquation">$\omega $</span>-periodic functions with values in Banach spaces. We investigate the invariance of introduced properties under the action of finite and infinite convolution products, providing also an illustrative application to abstract non-autonomous semilinear differential equations of first order.

Abstract:We study asymptotic behavior of the bottom point of the spectrum of convolution type operators in environments with locally periodic microstructure. We show that its limit is described by an additive eigenvalue problem for Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the periodic case we establish a more accurate two-term asymptotic formula.
