Abstract:A higher order Painleve system of type D^{(1)}_{2n+2} was introduced by Y. Sasano. It is an extension of the sixth Painleve equation for the affine Weyl group symmetry. It is also expressed as a Hamiltonian system of order 2n with a coupled Painleve VI Hamiltonian. In this paper, we discuss a derivation of this system from a Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy.

Abstract:In a recent work, we proposed the coupled Painlevé VI system with $A^{(1)}_{2n+1}$-symmetry, which is a higher order generalization of the sixth Painlevé equation ($P_{\rm VI}$). In this article, we present its particular solution expressed in terms of the hypergeometric function ${}_{n+1}F_n$. We also discuss a degeneration structure of the Painlevé system derived from the confluence of ${}_{n+1}F_n$.

Abstract:In literature, it is known that any solution of Painleve VI equation governs the isomonodromic deformation of a second order linear Fuchsian ODE on CP1. In this paper, we extend this isomonodromy theory on CP1 to the moduli space of elliptic curves by studying the isomonodromic deformation of the generalized Lame equation. Among other things, we prove that the isomonodromic equation is a new Hamiltonian system, which is equivalent to the elliptic form of Painleve VI equation for generic parameters. For Painleve VI equation with some special parameters, the isomonodromy theory of the generalized Lame equation greatly simplifies the computation of the monodromy group in CP1. Abstract:We will study two types of special solutions of the sixth Painleve equation, which are invariant under the symmetries obtained from the Backlund transformations. In most cases, the fixed points of the Backlund transformations are classical solution, but our solutions are not classical for generic parameters. We will calculate the linear monodromy of these solutions exactly, and we will characterize them on Fricke's cubic surface of monodromy.

Abstract:Three $q$-Painlevé type equations are derived through degenerations of the $q$-Painlevé equation with affine Weyl group symmetry of type $q$-$E_8^{(1)}$. The three $q$-Painlevé type equations are associated with different realizations of the same symmetry/surface type $q$-$E_7^{(1)}$/$q$-$A_1^{(1)}$. We give three representations of affine Weyl group actions of type $q$-$E_7^{(1)}$, and relations among them. The three $q$-$E_7^{(1)}$ equations are also derived from the three representations respectively.

Abstract:The structure of the extended affine Weyl symmetry group of higher Painlevé equations with periodicity $N$ varies depending on whether $N$ is even or odd. For even $N$, the symmetry group ${\widehat A}^{(1)}_{N-1}$ includes not only the conventional Bäcklund transformations $s_j, j=1,{\ldots},N$, and the group of automorphisms consisting of cycling permutations but also incorporates %encompasses an additional expansion of the group of automorphisms by embedding %featuring in this group the reflections on a periodic circle of $N$ points. This latter aspect is a novel feature revealed in this paper. The presence of reflection automorphisms is linked to the existence of degenerated solutions. Specifically, for $N=4$ we explicitly demonstrate how the reflection automorphisms around even points induce degeneracy in a class of rational solutions obtained on the orbit of translation operators of ${\widehat A}^{(1)}_{3}$. We provide closed-form expressions for both the solutions and their degenerated counterparts, given in terms of determinants of Kummer polynomials.

Abstract:The sixth Painlev\'e equation is a basic equation among the non-linear differential equations with three fixed singularities, corresponding to Gauss's hypergeometric differential equation among the linear differential equations. It is known that 2nd order Fuchsian differential equations with three singular points are reduced to the hypergeometric differential equations. Similarly, for nonlinear differential equations, we would like to determine the equation from the local behavior around the three singularities. In this paper, the sixth Painlev\'e equation is derived by imposing the condition that it is of type (H) at each three singular points for the homogeneous quadratic 4th-order differential equation.

Abstract:The Painlevé equations can be written as Hamiltonian systems with affine Weyl group symmetries. A canonical quantization of the Painlevé equations preserving the affine Weyl group symmetries has been studied. While, the Painlevé equations are isomonodromic equations for certain second-order linear differential equations. In this paper, we introduce a canonical quantization of Lax equations for the Painlevé equations and construct symmetries of the quantum Lax equations. We also show that our quantum Lax equations are derived from Virasoro conformal field theory.

Abstract:In 2006 Y. Sasano constructed higher order Painlevé systems which admit affine Weyl group symmetry of type $D^{(1)}_l, l=4, 5, 6, \ldots$. Every such a system is a Hamiltonian one with a coupled Hamiltonian associated to the Painlevé V equation when $l$ is an odd or to the Painlevé VI equation when $l$ is an even. In this paper we study the integrability of a four-dimensional Painlevé system which has symmetry under the extended affine Weyl group $\widetilde{W}(D^{(1)}_5)$ which we call the Sasano system of type $D^{(1)}_5$. We prove that one non-singular for the Bäcklund transformation family of the Sasano system of type $D^{(1)}_5$ is not integrable by meromorphic first integrals which are rational functions in $t$. We describe Stokes phenomena relative to a subsystem of the second normal variational equations. This approach allows us to compute in an explicit way the corresponding differential Galois group and threfore to deduce that the connected component of its unit element is not Abelian. In conclusion the Morales-Ramis-Simó theory leads to the non-integrable result.

Okamoto's symmetry on the representation space of the sixth Painlevé equation

Abstract:The sixth Painlevé equation (PVI) admits dual isomonodromy representations of type $2$-dimensional Fuchsian and $3$-dimensional Birkhoff. Taking the multiplicative middle convolution of a higher Teichmüller coordinatization for the Fuchsian monodromy group, we give Okamoto's symmetry $w_2$ of PVI a monodromic realization in the language of cluster $\mathcal{X}$-mutations. The explicit mutation formula is encoded in dual geometric terms of colored equilateral triangulations and star-shaped fat graphs. Moreover, this realization has a known additive analogue through the middle convolution for Fuchsian systems, and dual formulations for both the Birkhoff representation and its Stokes data exist. We give this quadruple of $w_2$-related maps a unified diagrammatic description in purely convolutional terms.
