Abstract:After a review of the existing theory of non-inertial frames and mathematical observers in Minkowski space-time we give the explicit expression of a family of such frames obtained from the inertial ones by means of point-dependent Lorentz transformations as suggested by the locality principle. These non-inertial frames have non-Euclidean 3-spaces and contain the differentially rotating ones in Euclidean 3-spaces as a subcase. Then we discuss how to replace mathematical accelerated observers with dynamical ones (their world-lines belong to interacting particles in an isolated system) and how to define Unruh–DeWitt detectors without using mathematical Rindler uniformly accelerated observers. Also some comments are done on the transition from relativistic classical mechanics to relativistic quantum mechanics in non-inertial frames.

Abstract:The description of an observer's measurement in general relativity and the standard model of particle physics is closely related to the spacetime metric. In order to understand and interpret measurements, which test the metric structure of the spacetime, like the classical Michelson-Morley, Ives-Stilwell, Kennedy-Thorndike experiments or frequency comparison experiments in general, it is necessary to describe them in theories, which go beyond the Lorentzian metric structure. However, this requires a description of an observer's measurement without relying on a metric. We provide such a description of an observer's measurement of the fundamental quantities time and length derived from a premetric perturbation of Maxwell's electrodynamics and a discussion on how these measurements influence classical relativistic observables like time dilation and length contraction. Most importantly, we find that the modification of electrodynamics influences the measurements at two instances: the propagation of light is altered as well as the observer's proper time normalization. When interpreting the results of a specific experiment, both effects cannot be disentangled, in general, and have to be taken into account.

Abstract:A challenge in teaching about special relativity is that a number of the theory's effects are at odds with the intuition of classical physics, as well as student's everyday experience. The relativity of simultaneity, time dilation and length contraction are prominent examples. This article describes two additional, less well-known counter-intuitive properties, both of which follow from the relativistic definition of relative motion, in situations with accelerated observers: (a) when two objects have a constant radar distance and are by that standard ``at relative rest,'' their relative speed is not necessarily zero, and (b) for two observers A and B, a situation is possible where A considers the two to be approaching each other, while B considers them to be moving away from each other. In general relativity, the generalisations of these two properties prove helpful for understanding static gravitational fields, and they also provide some insight into the nature of horizons.

Abstract:Aiming at the contradiction between the uncertainty principle and the law of causality, this paper proves that the evolution of all systems is a causal model rather than a probability model. The introduction of observers is equivalent to increasing the dimensionality of the system, so the observation results of the high-dimensional coupled system cannot be used to predict the original low-dimensional system. Even if some systems in the quantum world cannot make long-term predictions, they can still achieve short-term predictions through the Lyapunov index.In addition, this article explains the wave-particle duality, thinking that the particles themselves are actually in the form of energy storage gyroscopes. The high-speed spin of the particle itself produces fluctuations in the energy of the neighboring universe, and at this time the observer's observation intervention affects the observed particle and its environmental energy fluctuations. Furthermore, this article believes that the description of the uncertainty principle is a subset of the initial sensitivity of the manifold in the chaotic state. The definition of the uncertainty principle itself does not exist, and is not rigorous.

Abstract:Classical Doppler Effect of light propagation can be calculated by making any one of the two assumptions a) Light propagates at the speed c with respect to the source or b) Light propagates at the speed c with respect to the receptor. We show that the ratio of the two calculated classical Doppler Effects, with propagation speed c in the source inertial frame and receptor inertial frame respectively, remains constant equaling [1-(v^2/c^2)] : 1 , in all orientations (longitudinal, transverse and any arbitrary angle). Furthermore, we show that the Doppler Effect as predicted by special relativity, is in each and every orientation, the geometric mean of the two expected classical Doppler Effects. This leads to two contradicting conclusions: (1) by the receptor that the clock associated with the emitter runs slow, and (2) by the emitter that the clock associated with the receptor runs slow. These differences can be resolved if we theorize that light travels at speed c with respect to the emitter as it leaves the emitter and travels at speed c with respect to the receptor as it approaches the receptor. The postulation that light travels at speed c with respect to material objects in the vicinity of those material objects will resolve all paradoxes related to reciprocal time dilation.

Relativistic acceleration in noninertial frames of a line of objects

Abstract:A general solution to the problem of relativistic acceleration of point objects in the noninertial frame of any of the objects is given in one spatial dimension. The objects are initially at rest in a common inertial frame and accelerate until they are at rest in a second inertial frame. The starting time and position of each object, the acceleration rate of each object, and the number of objects are arbitrary. The solution gives the position and velocity of each object in the noninertial frame of the host object, and the proper time of each, as functions of the proper time of the host. The method is based on system states for a pair of objects, and it is found that there are nine series of states which cover all cases, including those in which objects are separated from the host by its Rindler horizon. The familiar problems of acceleration of an elastic rod and a (Born) rigid rod are treated, and a number of examples are given of spaceflight sequences for multiple craft in tandem.

Abstract:Although special relativity limits the actual velocity of a particle to $c$, the velocity of light, the observed velocity need not be the same as the actual velocity as the observer is only aware of the position of a particle at the time in the past when it emits the detected signal. We consider the apparent speed and acceleration of a particle in two cases, one when the particle is moving with a constant speed and the other when it is moving with a constant acceleration. One curious feature of our results is that in both cases, if the actual velocity of the particle approaches $c$, then the apparent velocity approaches infinity when it is moving toward the observer and $c/2$ when it is moving away from the observer.

Abstract:We show that an interferometer moving at a relativistic speed relative to a point source of light offers a sensitive probe of acceleration. Such an accelerometer contains no moving parts, and is thus more robust than conventional "mass-on-a-spring" accelerometers. In an interstellar mission to Alpha-Centauri, such an accelerometer could be used to measure the masses of planets around other stars as well as the mass distribution of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Abstract:We revisit the Unruh effect with a direct, probability-level calculation. We rederive the transition rate of a uniformly accelerating Unruh-DeWitt monopole detector coupled to a massive scalar field, from both the perspective of an inertial (Minkowski) observer and an accelerating (Rindler) observer. We show that, for a measurement at a finite time after the initial state is prepared, the two perspectives give the same transition rate. We show that an inertial detector in a thermal bath of Minkowski particles responds differently to the accelerated detector (which perceives a thermal bath of Rindler particles), except in the case of a massless field where there is agreement at all times. Finally, numerical results for the transition rate are presented and explained. We highlight the transient effects caused by forcing the field to initially be in the Minkowski vacuum state.

Abstract:We reassess the problem of symmetry restoration induced by observers' acceleration within the context of interacting quantum field theories in Minkowski spacetime. We argue that the imposition of a frame-independent renormalization condition negates any observed symmetry restoration by a Rindler observer. Technically, we compute the one-loop effective potential of a λφ 4 theory for an accelerated observer, employing a distinct methodology from prior investigations. Emphasizing the intricacies of the model's renormalization, the analysis offers novel insights into the interplay between acceleration and spontaneous symmetry breaking in quantum field theory.

Abstract:It is well known that the experience of a linearly accelerated observer with acceleration a , interacting with a massless scalar field in its vacuum state in 3+1 Minkowski spacetime, is identical to that of a static observer interacting with a massless scalar field in a thermal state of temperature a/2π in 3+1 Minkowski spacetime. We study the robustness of this duality by comparing an observer undergoing circular motion in a thermal bath with an observer that undergoes circular motion around a linearly accelerated trajectory. Seeable universe and its accelerated expansion: an observational test

Abstract:From the equivalence principle, one gets the strength of the gravitational effect of a mass $M$ on the metric at position r from it. It is proportional to the dimensionless parameter $\beta^2 = 2GM/rc^2$, which normally is $<< 1$. Here $G$ is the gravitational constant, $M$ the mass of the gravitating body, $r$ the position of the metric from the gravitating body and $c$ the speed of light. The seeable universe is the sphere, with center at the observer, having a size such that it shall contain all light emitted within it. For this to occur one can impose that the gravitational effect on the velocity of light at $r$ is zero for the radial component, and non zero for the tangential one. Light is then trapped. The condition is given by the equality $R_g = 2GM/c^2$, where $R_g$ represents the radius of the {\it seeable} universe. It is the gravitational radius of the mass $M$. The result has been presented elsewhere as the condition for the universe to be treated as a black hole. According to present observations, for the case of our universe taken as flat ($k = 0$), and the equation of state as $p = - \rho c^2$, we prove here from the Einstein's cosmological equations that the universe is expanding in an accelerated way as $t^2$, a constant acceleration as has been observed. This implies that the gravitational radius of the universe (at the event horizon) expands as $t^2$. Taking $c$ as constant, observing the galaxies deep in space this means deep in time as $ct$, linear. Then, far away galaxies from the observer that we see today will disappear in time as they get out of the distance ct that is $< R_g$. The accelerated expanding vacuum will drag them out of sight. This may be a valid test for the present ideas in cosmology. Previous calculations are here halved by our results.

Abstract:An overlooked straightforward application of velocity reciprocity to a triplet of inertial frames in collinear motion identifies the ratio of their cyclic relative velocities' sum to the negative product as a cosmic invariant, whose inverse square root corresponds to a universal limit speed. A logical indeterminacy of the ratio equation establishes the repeatedly observed unchanged speed of stellar light as one instance of this universal limit speed. This formally renders the second postulate redundant. The ratio equation furthermore enables the limit speed to be quantified, in principle, independently of a limit speed signal. Assuming negligible gravitational fields, two deep-space vehicles in non-collinear motion could measure with only a single clock the limit speed against the speed of light, without requiring these speeds to be identical. Moreover, the cosmic invariant (from dynamics, equal to the mass-to-energy ratio) emerges explicitly as a function of signal response time ratios between three collinear vehicles, multiplied by the inverse square of the velocity of whatever arbitrary signal might be used.

The Relativistic Rotation Transformation and the Observer Manifold

Abstract:We show that relativistic rotation transformations represent transfer maps between the laboratory system and a local observer on an observer manifold, rather than an event manifold, in the spirit of C-equivalence. Rotation is, therefore, not a parameterised motion on a background space or spacetime, but is determined by a particular sequence of tetrads related by specific special Lorentz transformations or boosts. Because such Lorentz boosts do not form a group, these tetrads represent distinct observers that cannot put together their local descriptions into a manifold in the usual sense. The choice of observer manifold depends on the dynamical situation under consideration, and is not solely determined by the kinematics. Three examples are given: Franklin's rotation transformation for uniform plane rotation, the Thomas precession of a vector attached to an electron, and the motion of a charged particle in an electromagnetic field. In each case, at each point of its trajectory, there is a distinguished tetrad and a special Lorentz transformation that maps Minkowski space to the spacetime of the local observer on the curve.

Abstract:A class of observers is introduced that interpolate smoothly between the Schwarzschild observer, stable at spatial infinity, and the Kerr-Schild observer, who falls into a black hole. For these observers the passing of the event and inner horizon takes a finite time, which diverges logarithmically when the interpolation parameter $\sigma$ goes to zero. In the field theoretic approach to gravitation, the behavior at the horizons becomes regular, making the mass of the metric well defined.

Abstract:The principles of behavior of the system with discrete interactions are applied to description of motion of the relativistic particle. Applying the concept of non-local behavior both to position in space and to time, the apparently covariant equation of motion of the particle (Klein-Gordon) is defined. Based on the assumption that the form of the equation has to be invariant in inertial reference frames, the principle of constancy of the speed of light can be deduced. Consequently the basic statements of special relativity can be established in relation to the principles of discrete interaction. The condition that Klein-Gordon equation was established without explicit use of the principle of correspondence gives a way to specify the area of applicability of the statement about the speed of light as the maximal speed of propagation of information. This would permit interpretation of superluminal phenomena with no contradictions to special relativity. The conventional interpretation of time as a category which specifies succession and coexistence of events leads to interpreting of the Klein-Gordon and related equations (such as Maxwell or Dirac) as equations of the fields. This would justify the procedure of second quantization, so that the states of the field are identified with the sets of particles.

Abstract:The Unruh effect is one of the first calculations of what one would see when transiting between an inertial reference frame with its quantum field vacuum state and a non-inertial (specifically, uniformly accelerating) reference frame. The inertial reference frame's vacuum state would not correspond to the vacuum state of the non-inertial frame and the observer in that frame would see radiation, with a corresponding Bose distribution and a temperature proportional to the acceleration (in natural units). In this paper, I compute the response of this non-inertial observer to a single frequency mode in the inertial frame and deduce that, indeed, the cumulative distribution (over the observer's proper time) of frequencies observed by the accelerating observer would be the Bose distribution with a temperature proportional to the acceleration. The conclusion is that the Unruh effect (and the related Hawking effect) is generic, in that it would appear with any incoming incoherent state and the Bose distribution is obtained as a consequence of the non-inertial frame's motion, rather than some special property of the quantum vacuum. As a consequence of the analysis of a coherent set of signals, I show to extract information from the spectrum that an accelerated observer would see (as well as from the radiation from a black hole).

Abstract:One of two postulates that are base for special relativity is that the laws of physics are invariant in all inertial systems, which has as a consequence that it is impossible for an observer to detect his motion through space. It will be shown that this is in a contradiction with the results of the Hafele-Keating experiment, which established that time is going faster in an airplane going westward than in that going eastward, if compared with clocks located on Earth. The result of the experiment allows not only to conclude that Earth is rotating toward east, but also to calculate the speed of Earth motion. Performing similar experiments it is also possible to measure Earth speed around the Sun, its speed in our galaxy, and actually its absolute speed. To generalize this for any inertial frame and to explain why an absolute speed can be assigned to any inertial frame we introduced the triplets paradox.
