Abstract:It is argued that while the scale dependence of the parton distributions in the fixed flavor factorization scheme is governed by three active flavors, the scale dependence of the running coupling should nevertheless be better governed by a variable number of active flavors.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the influence of simultaneously doping Sb (antimony) and Pb (lead) on the phase formation, superconducting properties and microstructure characteristics of HgBa₂Ca₂Cu₃O₈₊δ (mercury - barium - calcium - copper oxide) high - temperature superconductors. Specifically, the researchers hope to optimize the superconducting transition temperature (\(T_c\)) and the transport critical current density (\(J_{ct}\)) of the material through this doping method, and explore the relationship between these properties and the microstructure of the material. ### Main research objectives: 1. **Phase formation**: Study how the simultaneous doping of Sb and Pb affects the phase composition of HgBa₂Ca₂Cu₃O₈₊δ, especially the formation of the main phase Hg - 1223. 2. **Superconducting properties**: Evaluate the changes in the superconducting transition temperature (\(T_c\)) and the transport critical current density (\(J_{ct}\)) under different doping ratios. 3. **Microstructure**: Analyze the microstructure characteristics of the doped material, especially the spiral growth mechanism and its influence on the superconducting properties. ### Research background: - **Hg - based copper - oxide superconductors**: They have a high critical temperature of up to about 135 K, but there are weak pinning behaviors and difficulties in synthesis. - **The influence of microstructure on superconducting properties**: The critical current density of superconducting materials is very sensitive to their microstructure, especially the grain size and the grain boundary density. - **The individual effects of Sb and Pb doping**: Sb doping can increase the inter - granular critical current density, while Pb doping can promote the formation of single - phase Hg - 1223 and enhance the irreversible field. ### Research methods: - **Sample preparation**: Synthesize doped samples under normal pressure by using a two - step solid - state reaction method. - **Characterization techniques**: Characterize the samples by using techniques such as X - ray diffraction (XRD), four - probe resistance measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy - dispersive X - ray analysis (EDAX). ### Key findings: - **Phase composition**: All samples are polycrystalline, with the main phase being Hg - 1223, a small amount of the Hg - 1234 phase with a low critical temperature and a trace amount of impurity phases. - **Superconducting properties**: The optimal doping ratio is (Hg₀.₈₀Sb₀.₀₅Pb₀.₁₅)Ba₂Ca₂Cu₃O₈₊δ, its critical transition temperature is 133 K, and the transport critical current density reaches the highest value of 1.85 × 10³ A/cm² at 77 K. - **Microstructure**: The optimally doped sample shows large single - crystal - like grains (about 50 μm), and the grains are well - connected, and the surface exhibits spiral growth characteristics. ### Conclusions: - By simultaneously doping Sb and Pb, the superconducting properties of HgBa₂Ca₂Cu₃O₈₊δ can be significantly improved, especially the transport critical current density. - The spiral growth characteristics in the microstructure are related to the formation of screw dislocations, which helps to increase the critical current density of the material. In conclusion, this research provides new ideas and experimental bases for optimizing the performance of Hg - based copper - oxide superconductors.
