Abstract:We study in next-to-leading order QCD hadronic penguin B decays in the Standard and two-Higgs-doublet models. Although the gluonic penguin dominates, we find the electroweak contribution non-negligible. In the Standard Model, the branching ratio for B --> X(s)phi is predicted to be in the range (0.6-2) x 10(-4). The ranges of branching ratios for B --> Kphi, B --> K* phi, and B(s) --> phiphi are (0.4-2) x 10(-5), (0.2-1) x 10(-5), and (0.15-0.5) x 10(-5), respectively. The contribution from the charged Higgs boson in two Higgs doublet models depend on cot beta, and can be as large as 40%.

Abstract:The QCD factorization (QCDF) method usually contains infrared divergenceswhich introduce large model dependence to its predictions on charmless Bdecays. The amplitudes of charmless B decays can be decomposed into "tree" and"penguin" parts which are conventionally defined, not from the topology of thedominant diagrams, but through their associated CKM factors V_ub^* V_uq andV_tb^* V_tq, respectively, with q=d,s. We find that for B_d,s →π^+K^- decays, the "tree" amplitude can be well estimated in QCDF with smallerrors, as the endpoint singularities have been canceled to a large extent.With this as the only input from QCDF and combined with flavor symmetry, thebranching ratio of B_s →π^+ K^- are estimated to be significantly largerthan the CDF measurement. This contradiction could be solved if the form factorF^B_s K is smaller than the light cone sum rules estimation or the "tree"amplitude has been over estimated in QCDF. The latter possibility could happenif charming penguins are nonperturbative and not small, as argued in softcollinear effective theory. To differentiate between these two possibilities,we examine the similar B_s →ρ^+ K^- decay with the same technique. It isfound that a large part of the uncertainties are canceled in the ratio B(B_s→ρ^+ K^-)/B(B_s →π^+ K^-). It is predicted to be 2.5 ±0.2 in QCDFwhich is independent on the form factor. However if charming penguins areimportant, this ratio could be very different from the QCDF prediction.Therefore the ratio of these two branching ratios could be an interestingindicator of the role of charming penguins in charmless B decays.

Abstract:CP asymmetries of B -> phi K and B -> eta((1))K modes are analyzed in the QCD improved factorization framework. The phenomenological parameters are determined from the global fit for the available B PP and VP modes (without the subprocess b -> s (s) over bars). The possible deviation of sin(2 phi(1))phi K-0,eta'K-s from sin(2 phi(1))J/Psi K-s and the large branching ratio for B+/--> eta(1)K(+/-) can be simultaneously explained in the context of R-parity conserving SUGRA models and R-parity violating SUSY models.

Abstract:With the generalized factorization approximation, we calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries in B meson decays into two charmless pseudoscalar mesons. We give a new estimation of the matrix elements of (S+P)(S-P) current products with the PQCD method instead of equation of motion. We find that our results are comparatively smaller than those in the literature.

Abstract:In the framework of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry (SUSY), we show that the large negative sin(2phi(1))phiK(s) and the large branching ratio for B+/- --> eta(1)K(+/-) can be simultaneously explained. In order to calculate the relevant hadronic matrix elements, we adopt the QCD factorization approach and use the global fit for the available B --> PP and VP modes (without the quark-level subprocess b --> sss) to determine the phenomenological parameters for the calculation. We find that all the observed data can be accommodated for certain values of the RPV SUSY couplings.

Abstract: We study the $\rho\pi$ and $b_1\pi$ decay modes of the $1^{-+}$ light hybrid state within the framework of light-cone QCD sum rules. We use both the tensor current $\bar\psi\sigma_{\mu\nu}\psi$ and the derivative current $\bar{\psi}\overleftrightarrow{D}_\mu\gamma_5\psi$ as interpolating currents to calculate the partial decay width of the $b_1\pi$ decay mode. Comparing the sum rules obtained by using different currents, we obtain $\Gamma(\pi_1\to b_1\pi)$ = 8--23, 32--86 and 52--151\,MeV for $m_{1^{-+}}$ = 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0\,GeV respectively, which favour the results from the flux tube models and lattice simulations. We also use the tensor current to study the $\rho\pi$ decay mode, and although an extended stability criterion is needed, our results suggest a small partial decay width.

Abstract:The recently observed B- --> K- pi(0), (K) over bar(0)pi(-) and (B) over bar(0) --> K- pi(+) decay modes appear to have nearly equal branching ratios. This suggests that tree and electroweak penguins play an important role, and inclusion of the latter improves agreement between factorization calculation and experimental data. The value of gamma in the range of 90 degrees-130 degrees and 220 degrees-260 degrees is favored, while the (B) over bar(0) --> (K) over bar(0)pi(0) rate is suppressed. Direct CP violation for B --> K pi modes can be large if final state interaction phases are large.

Abstract:We study the pure penguin decays $B \to \phi\pi$ and $B^0 \to \phi\phi$. Using QCD factorization, we find ${\cal B}(B^\pm \to\phi\pi^{\pm} )=2.0^{+0.3}_{-0.1}\times 10^{-8}$. For the pure penguin annihilation process $B^0 \to \phi\phi$, analyzed here for the first time, ${\cal B}(B^0 \to\phi\phi)=2.1^{+1.6}_{-0.3}\times 10^{-9}$. The smallness of these decays in the Standard Model makes them sensitive probes for new physics. From the upper limit of $B\to \phi\pi$,we find constraints on R parity violating couplings, $| \lambda{''}_{i23}\lambda{''}_{i21}|<6\times10^{-5}$, $| \lambda'_{i23}\lambda'_{i21}|<4\times10^{-4}$ and $| \lambda'_{i32}\lambda'_{i12}|<4\times10^{-4}$ for $i=1,2,3$. Our new bounds on $|\lambda{''}_{i23}\lambda{''}_{i21}|$ are one order of magnitude stronger than before. Within the available upper bounds for $| \lambda{''}_{i23}\lambda{''}_{i21}|$, $|\lambda'_{i23}\lambda'_{i21}|$ and $|\lambda'_{i32}\lambda'_{i12}|$, we find that ${\cal B}(B\to\phi\phi)$ could be enhanced to $10^{-8}\sim 10^{-7}$. Experimental searches for these decays are strongly urged.

Optimised observables and new physics prospects in the penguin-mediated decays $B_{d(s)}\to K^{(*)0}ϕ$

Abstract:We study penguin-mediated $\bar{B}_{d(s)}\to\bar{K}^{*0}(K^{*0})\phi$ transitions, proposing a new optimised observable $L_{K^*\phi}$ from the ratio of the corresponding branching ratios of these decays, with limited hadronic uncertainties and enhanced New Physics sensitivity. It deviates by $1.48\sigma$ between its experimental value and SM determination within QCD factorisation. This can be accommodated together with significant deviations found in the $K^{(*)}\bar{K}^{(*)}$ modes in our earlier works if New Physics affects either the QCD penguin operator $Q_4$ or the chromomagnetic dipole operator $Q_{8g}$ for both $b\to d$ and $b\to s$ transitions. The allowed range for the Wilson coefficients $C_{4s,8gs}$ is narrower than $C_{4d,8gd}$ since the $b\to s$ transition channel $\bar{B}_d\to\bar{K}^{*0}\phi$ is in better agreement with the SM. However, if we add the measured $\bar{B}_{d}\to \bar{K}^{0}\phi$ branching ratio, simultaneous explanation of all experimental data for $K^{(*)}\bar{K}^{(*)}$ and $K^*(\bar{K}^{(*)})\phi$ channels in terms of New Physics in $C_{4d,s}$ or $C_{8gd,s}$ only, is not possible. They can be explained more easily if we assume New Physics in both $f=d,s$ sectors. The addition of the branching ratios of the charged modes $B^-\to K^{(*)-}\phi$ to the above mix of observables results in a reduction of the parameter space for the $(C_{4f},C_{6f})$ scenario, while discarding the $(C_{6f},C_{8gf})$ scenario completely. This is because of the discrepancy of more than 1 $\sigma$ between the experimental measurements of the branching ratios of the $\bar{B}_{d}(B^-)\to\bar{K}^0(K^-)\phi$ transitions. This provides a strong incentive for the LHCb/Belle II experiments to measure the branching ratios of $\bar{B}_{d}\to\bar{K}^{(*)0}\phi$, $\bar{B}_s\to K^{*0}\phi$ and particularly $B^-\to K^-\phi$ to confirm or dismiss the conclusions hinted at by present data.

SU(3) symmetry analysis in charmed baryon two body decays with penguin diagram contribution

Abstract:An increasing number of experimental measurements from the BESIII, Belle, and Belle-II collaborations encourage investigations into charmed baryon two-body decay processes. By including contributions from the penguin diagrams that are ignored in previous studies, we perform a global analysis with SU(3) flavor symmetry. Assuming all form factors are real, we achieve a remarkable minimal $\chi^{2}/d.o.f = 0.788$ and find that the contribution of the amplitude proportional to $V_{cb}^*V_{ub}$ is of the order $\sim 0.01$, comparable with the contribution of the tree-level diagram. Additionally, by using the KPW theorem to reduce the number of amplitudes from 13 to 7 in the leading contribution, it becomes possible to consider the complex form factor case for the leading IRA amplitude in the global analysis. However, the analysis of complex form factors significantly conflicts with the experimental data $Br(\Xi_c^0\to\Xi^-\pi^+)$, and by excluding this data, $\chi^2/d.o.f$ is reduced from 5.95 to 1.19. Although the analysis of complex form factors shows a significant central value of the penguin diagram contribution, the large errors from the corresponding form factors make it a challenge to precisely determine its true contribution. Consequently, the direct CP violation in decay processes is predicted to be approximately zero. With more data in future experiments, the penguin diagram contribution with the amplitude proportional to $V_{cb}^*V_{ub}$ will be precisely determined, allowing for a more accurate prediction of CP violation. Our analysis necessitates further theoretical investigations and experimental measurements in the future.

Charmless Two-Body B(B-S) -> Pp, Vp Decays in Soft-Collinear-Effective-Theory

Abstract:We provide the analysis of charmless two-body B -> VP decays under the framework of the soft collinear effective theory (SCET), where V(P) denotes a light vector (pseudoscalar) meson. Besides the leading power contributions, some power corrections (chiraly enhanced penguins) are also taken into account. Using the current available B -> PP and B -> VP experimental data on branching fractions and CP asymmetry variables, we find two kinds of solutions in chi(2) fit for the 16 nonperturbative inputs which are essential in the 87 B -> PP and B -> VP decay channels. Chiraly enhanced penguins can change several charming penguins sizably, since they share the same topology. However, most of the other nonperturbative inputs and predictions on branching ratios and CP asymmetries are not changed too much. With the two sets of inputs, we predict the branching fractions and CP asymmetries of other modes especially B-s -> VP decays. The agreements and differences with results in QCD factorization and perturbative QCD approach are analyzed. We also study the time-dependent CP asymmetries in channels with CP eigenstates in the final states and some other channels such as (B) over bar (0)/B-0 ->pi(+/-)rho(-/+) and (B) over bar (0)(s)/B-s(0)-> K-+/- K*(-/+). In the perturbative QCD approach, the (S-P)(S+P) penguins in annihilation diagrams play an important role. Although they have the same topology with charming penguins in SCET, there are many differences between the two objects in weak phases, magnitudes, strong phases, and factorization properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we perform a complete one-loop computation of the short-distance Wilson coefficients for B-s,B-d - (B) over bar (s,d) mixings and B-s,B-d -> l(+)l(-) decays in the Manohar-Wise model, which extends the Standard Model ( SM) scalar sector by a colour-octet and weak-doublet scalar. Based on these calculations, combined constraints on the model parameters are derived from the current flavour data, including the B-s,B-d - (B) over bar (s,d) mixings, B-s,B-d -> mu(+)mu(-), B -> X-s gamma, B -> K*gamma, B -> rho gamma, and Z -> b (b) over bar decays. The future sensitivity to the model is also explored in the observables achievable with 50 fb(-1) of LHCb and 50 ab(-1) of Belle-II data. We find that the Manohar-Wise model could explain the current data, especially when the couplings of the charged colour-octet scalars to quarks are complex, with the resulting chi(2)(min) being significantly smaller than that of the SM. Finally, we investigate correlations among the two isospin asymmetries Delta(K*gamma) and Delta(rho gamma), as well as the averaged time-integrated branching ratios (B) over bar (B-s,B-d -> mu(+)mu(-)); some of them are found to be quite strong and could provide, therefore, further insights into the model, once more precise experimental measurements and theoretical predictions for these observables are available in the future.
Model-independent electroweak penguins in B decays to two pseudoscalars

Abstract:We study the effects of electroweak penguin (EWP) amplitudes in $B$ meson decays into two charmless pseudoscalars in the approximation of retaining only the dominant EWP operators $Q_9$ and $Q_{10}$. Using flavor SU(3) symmetry, we derive a set of model-independent relations between EWP contributions and tree-level decay amplitudes one of which was noted recently by Neubert and Rosner. Two new applications of these relations are demonstrated in which uncertainties due to EWP corrections are eliminated in order to determine a weak phase. Whereas the weak angle $\alpha$ can be obtained from $B\to\pi\pi$ free of hadronic uncertainties, a determination of $\gamma$ from $B^{0,\pm}\to K\pi^{\pm}$ requires the knowledge of a ratio of certain tree-level hadronic matrix elements. The smallness of this ratio implies a useful constraint on $\gamma$ if rescattering can be neglected.

Abstract:We formulate the most general time-dependent distributions of B-s -> J/psi(-> l(+)l(-))phi(-> K+K-) in which the direct charge parity (CP) violation is explicitly incorporated. We investigate the B -> J/psi V decays in the perturbative QCD approach where V is a light vector meson. Apart from the leading-order factorizable contributions, we also take into account QCD vertex corrections and the hard-spectator diagrams. With the inclusion of these sizable corrections, most of our theoretical results for CP-averaged branching ratios, polarization fractions, CP-violating asymmetries, and relative phases are consistent with the available data. Based on the global agreement, we further explore the penguin contributions and point out that the phi(s) extracted from B-s -> J/psi phi can be shifted away by O(10(-3)).
