Abstract:We investigate the effects of an external magnetic field in the gluon dynamics of a color superconductor with three massless quark flavors. In the framework of gluon mean-field theory at asymptotic densities, we show that the long-range component $\widetilde{H}$ of the external magnetic field that penetrates the CFL phase produces an instability when its strength becomes larger than the Meissner mass of the charged gluons. As a consequence, the magnetic field causes the formation of a vortex state characterized by the condensation of charged gluons and the creation of magnetic flux tubes. Inside the flux tubes the magnetic field is stronger than the applied one. This antiscreening effect is connected to the anomalous magnetic moment of the gluon field. We suggest how this same mechanism could serve to remove the chromomagnetic instabilities existing in gapless color superconductivity.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the influence of an external magnetic field on gluon dynamics in a color superconductor. Specifically, the author studied the changes in gluon dynamics in a color superconductor with three massless quark flavors in the presence of an external magnetic field. The core issues of the paper can be summarized as follows: 1. **Influence of the external magnetic field on the CFL phase**: - What happens when the external magnetic field penetrates the Color - Flavor - Locked (CFL) phase and its strength exceeds the Meissner mass of charged gluons. - Research shows that in this case, instabilities will be generated, leading to the formation of a vortex state, characterized by the condensation of charged gluons and the generation of magnetic flux tubes. 2. **Magnetic field enhancement mechanism**: - Inside the magnetic flux tubes, the magnetic field is stronger than the applied magnetic field. This anti - shielding effect is related to the anomalous magnetic moment of the gluon field. - The author explored how this mechanism can be used to eliminate the chromomagnetic instabilities in gapless color superconductors. 3. **Astrophysical applications**: - The paper also discussed the potential impacts of these studies on the internal structure and properties of neutron stars, especially considering that extremely strong magnetic fields (about \(10^{14}-10^{16}\) Gauss) exist on the surface of neutron stars and may even be higher. ### Specific problem description By analyzing the effective action and polarization operator, the paper shows that when the strength of the external rotating magnetic field exceeds the critical value \(\tilde{H}_C\), the charged gluon modes become tachyonic, thus triggering instabilities and new phase transitions. Key formulas include: - Definitions of Debye mass and Meissner mass: \[ m_D^2=\sigma m_g^2, \quad m_M^2 = \frac{\sigma m_g^2}{3}, \quad \text{where} \quad m_g^2 = g^2\frac{\mu^2}{2\pi^2} \] where \(\sigma=\frac{21 - 8\ln 2}{18}\). - Critical magnetic field condition: \[ \tilde{e}\tilde{H}_C=m_M^2 \] - Gibbs free energy density minimization equation: \[ G_c = F-\tilde{H}\tilde{B} \] Through these analyses, the author reveals that under a strong magnetic field, the color superconductor will exhibit antiferromagnetic - like behavior, that is, the magnetic field is anti - shielded rather than shielded. This behavior is different from that of conventional superconductors, which usually shield the applied magnetic field. ### Conclusion The main conclusion of the paper is that under a sufficiently strong external magnetic field, the charged gluons in the CFL phase will condense and form a vortex state, making the magnetic field enhanced inside the magnetic flux tubes. This mechanism not only explains the magnetic field enhancement phenomenon but also provides new ideas for solving the chromomagnetic instabilities in gapless color superconductors. In addition, these results are of great significance for understanding the extreme physical conditions inside neutron stars.
