Abstract:We establish the existence and uniqueness results for variational inequality problems on Riemannian manifolds and solve completely the open problem proposed in [S.Z. Németh, Variational inequalities on Hadamard manifolds, Nonlinear Anal. 52 (2003) 1491–1498]. Also the relationships between the constrained optimization problem and the variational inequality problems as well as the projections on Riemannian manifolds are studied.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.

Abstract:One-parameter strongly continuous semigroups of linear bounded operators on Banach spaces (also known as $C_0$-semigroups) are a fundamental operator-theoretic tool used in the study of linear and non-linear evolution PDEs arising in physics, probability, control theory and other areas of science and technology, including quantum theory, transportation problems and finance. Since 2021 the annual online conference on one-parameter semigroups of operators (OPSO) offers an opportunity for researchers worldwide to discuss the current state of the art and exchange knowledge. On every OPSO conference open problems are proposed, collected and discussed, some of them are found to be solved and hence get crossed out from the list. In this paper we provide a collection of open problems of semigroup theory that were proposed by participants of OPSO 2021--2024 conferences and have not been solved, yet. For each problem some comments on the relevance and and history of the problem are provided.

Abstract:In the present paper, we make some progress on the Sirakov's open problem (Comm Math. Phys., 2007) about the existence of nontrivial nonnegative solution to the coupled nonlinear system {-Delta u + lambda u = mu(1)u(3) + beta uv(2) in R-N -Delta v + v = mu(2)v(3) + beta u(2)v in R-N u, v > 0 in R-N <= N 3. We also study some other properties for related questions, such as the uniqueness of the ground state solution, the asymptotic behavior of the least energy solution, nonexistence of the positive solution and the multiplicity of positive solutions, etc.

Abstract:Let Ω be a C^1 open bounded domain in ℝ^N, N≥ 3, with 0∈Ω̅. We consider the following problem involving Hardy–Sobolev critical exponents: (P) {[ Δ u+λu^p/|x|^s_1+u^2^*(s_2)-1/|x|^s_2=0 in Ω ,; u(x)>0 in Ω ; u(x)=0 on ∂Ω , ]. where 0≤ s_1<2, 0≤ s_2< 2, 2^*(s_2):=2(N-s_2)/N-2, 0λ∈ℝ, 1≤ p≤ 2^*(s_1)-1 , and with choices of exponents and parameters corresponding to cases in which (P) has not been before investigated. We prove the existence of positive solutions, which, in some cases, are also shown to be ground states. We remark that we give a first partial answer to a question proposed by Li and Lin (Arch Ration Mech Anal 203(3):943–968, 2012 ).
Inversion Problem for Radon Transforms Defined on Pseudoconvex Sets

Abstract:Some questions concerning the inversion of the classical and generalized integral Radon transforms are discussed. The main issue is to determine information about the integrand if the values of some integrals are known. A feature of this work is that a function is integrated over hyperplanes in a finite-dimensional Euclidean space and the integrands depend not only on the variables of integration, but also on some of the variables characterizing the hyperplanes. The independent variables describing the known integrals are fewer than those in the unknown integrand. We consider discontinuous integrands defined on specifically introduced pseudoconvex sets. A Stefan-type problem of finding discontinuity surfaces of the integrand is posed. Formulas for solving the problem under study are derived by applying special integro-differential operators to known data.

Abstract:We solve an inverse problem for a third order differential operator under the 3-point Dirichlet conditions. The third-order operator is an $L$-operator in the Lax pair for the good Boussinesq equation. We construct the mapping from the set of the coefficients to the set of spectral data. This mapping is an analytic bijection on a neighborhood of the zero.

Abstract:We present a collection of easily stated open problems in wavelet theory and we survey the current status of answering them. This includes a problem of Larson ((2007) Unitary systems and Wavelet sets. In: Wavelet analysis and applications. Applied and Numerical Harmonic Analysis. Birkhäuser, Basel, pp 143–171) on minimally supported frequency wavelets. We show that it has an affirmative answer for MRA wavelets.

Abstract:Based on the success of a well-known method for solving higher order linear differential equations, a study of two of the most important mathematical features of that method, viz. the null spaces and commutativity of the product of unbounded linear operators on a Hilbert space is carried out. A principle is proved describing solutions for the product of such operators in terms of the solutions for each of the factors when the null spaces of those factors satisfy a certain geometric relation to one another. Another geometric principle equating commutativity of a closed densely defined operator and a projection to stability of the range of the projection under the closed operator is proved.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to study operators of the form, \[ Tf(x)= \psi(x)\int f(\gamma_t(x))K(t)\: dt, \] where $\gamma$ is a real analytic function defined on a neighborhood of the origin in $(t,x)\in \R^N\times \R^n$, satisfying $\gamma_0(x)\equiv x$, $\psi$ is a cutoff function supported near $0\in \R^n$, and $K$ is a "multi-parameter singular kernel" supported near $0\in \R^N$. A main example is when $K$ is a "product kernel." We also study maximal operators of the form, \[ \mathcal{M} f(x) = \psi(x)\sup_{0<\delta_1,..., \delta_N<<1} \int_{|t|<1} |f(\gamma_{\delta_1 t_1,...,\delta_N t_N}(x))|\: dt. \] We show that $\mathcal{M}$ is bounded on $L^p$ ($1<p\leq \infty$). We give conditions on $\gamma$ under which $T$ is bounded on $L^p$ ($1<p<\infty$); these conditions hold automatically when $K$ is a Calderón-Zygmund kernel. This is the final paper in a three part series. The first two papers consider the more general case when $\gamma$ is $C^\infty$.

We prove uniqueness theorems for this transform and for the profit function in the corresponding model of production. Our approach is based on the multidimensional Wiener's approximation theorems.

Abstract:The application of generalized inverses is usually neglected in pure mathematical research. However, it is very effective for this paper. We expand the famous matrix rank theorem due to R. Penrose to operators between Banach paces. Therefore a modern perturbation analysis of generalized inverses is built. Hereby, we find and prove a complete rank theorem in advanced calculus. So a complete answer to the rank theorem problem presented by M. S. Berger is given. Applying the co-final set and the perturbation analysis of generalized inverses we prove the Frobenius theorem in Banach space, in the proof of which the used vector field and flow theory are avoided. The co-final set is essential to the Frobenius theorem. When the co-final set is trivial, the theorem reduces to the differential equation with initial value in Banach space. Also, we discuss a non-trivial family of subspaces and give its smooth integral submanifold.

Abstract:We investigate the existence of local holomorphic solutions $Y$ of linear partial differential equations in three complex variables whose coefficients are singular along an analytic variety $\Theta$ in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$. The coefficients are written as linear combinations of powers of a solution $X$ of some first order nonlinear partial differential equation following an idea we have initiated in a previous work \cite{mast}. The solutions $Y$ are shown to develop singularities along $\Theta$ with estimates of exponential type depending on the growth's rate of $X$ near the singular variety. We construct these solutions with the help of series of functions with infinitely many variables which involve derivatives of all orders of $X$ in one variable. Convergence and bounds estimates of these series are studied using a majorant series method which leads to an auxiliary functional equation that contains differential operators in infinitely many variables. Using a fixed point argument, we show that these functional equations actually have solutions in some Banach spaces of formal power series.

Abstract:We study the existence of solutions to abstract equations of the form $0 = Au + F(u)$, $u\in K\subset E$, where A is an abstract differential operator acting in a Banach space $E$, $K$ is a closed convex set of constraints being invariant with respect to resolvents of A and perturbations are subject to different tangency condition. Such problems are closely related to the so-called Poicaré- Miranda theorem, being the multi-dimensional counterpart of the celebrated Bolzano intermediate value theorem. In fact our main results can and should be regarded as infinite-dimensional variants of Bolzano and Miranda-Poincaré theorems. Along with single-valued problems we deal with set-valued ones, yielding the existence of the so-called constrained equilibria of set-valued maps. The abstract results are applied to show existence of (strong) steady state solutions to some weakly coupled systems of drift reaction-diffusion equations or differential inclusions of this type. In particular we get the existence of strong solutions to the Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic boundary problems for elliptic partial differential inclusions under the presence of state constraints of different type. Certain aspects of the Bernstein theory for bvp for second order ODE are studied, too. No assumptions concerning structural coupling (monotonicity, cooperativity) are undertaken.
