Abstract:We obtain unique continuation results for Schrodinger equations with time dependent gradient vector potentials. This result with an appropriate modification also yields unique continuation properties for solutions of certain nonlinear Schrodinger equations.

Abstract:We prove unique continuation properties for solutions of the evolution Schrödinger equation with time dependent potentials. As an application of our method we also obtain results concerning the possible concentration profiles of blow up solutions and the possible profiles of the traveling waves solutions of semi-linear Schrödinger equations.

Abstract:This paper is dedicated to the unique continuation properties of the solutions to nonlinear variational problems. Our analysis covers the case of nonlinear autonomous functionals depending on the gradient, as well as more general double phase and multiphase functionals with $(2,q)$-growth in the gradient. We show that all these cases fall in a class of nonlinear functionals for which we are able to prove weak and strong unique continuation via the almost-monotonicity of Almgren's frequency formula. As a consequence, we obtain estimates on the dimension of the set of points at which both the solution and its gradient vanish.

Abstract:We establish a unique continuation property for solutions of the differential inequality $|\nabla u|\leq V|u|$, where $V$ is locally $L^n$ integrable on a domain in $\mathbb R^n$. A stronger uniqueness result is obtained if in addition the solutions are locally Lipschitz. One application is a finite order vanishing property in the $L^2$ sense for the exponential of $W^{1,n}$ functions. We further discuss related results for the Cauchy-Riemann operator $\bar\partial$ and characterize the vanishing order for smooth extension of holomorphic functions across the boundary.

Unique Continuation Properties from one time for hyperbolic Schrödinger equations

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate properties of unique continuation for hyperbolic Schrödinger equations with time-dependent complex-valued electric fields and time-independent real magnetic fields. We show that positive masses inside of a bounded region at a single time propagate outside the region and prove gaussian lower bounds for the solutions, provided a suitable average in space-time cylinders is taken.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to a study of the unique continuation property for stochastic parabolic equations. Due to the adapted nature of solutions in the stochastic situation, classical approaches to treat the the unique continuation problem for deterministic equations do not work. Our method is based on a suitable partial Holmgren coordinate transform and a stochastic version of Carleman-type estimate.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend our earlier unique continuation results \cite{PZ2} for the Schrödinger-type inequality $ |\bar\partial u| \le V|u|$ on a domain in $\mathbb C^n$ by removing the smoothness assumption on solutions $u = (u_1, \ldots, u_N)$. More specifically, we establish the unique continuation property for $W_{loc}^{1,1}$ solutions when the potential $V\in L_{loc}^p $, $ p>2n$; and for $W_{loc}^{1,2n+\epsilon}$ solutions when $V\in L_{loc}^{2n}$ with $N=1$ or $n = 2$. Although the unique continuation property fails in general if $V\in L_{loc}^{p}, p<2n$, we show that the property still holds for $W_{loc}^{1,1}$ solutions when $V $ is a small constant multiple of $ \frac{1}{|z|}$.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study the unique continuation property for a Schrödinger-type equation $ \bar\partial u = Vu$ on a domain in $\mathbb C^n$, where the solution $u$ may be a scalar function, or a vector-valued function. While simple examples show that the unique continuation property fails in general if the potential $V\in L^{p}, p<2n$, we first prove that, in the case when $u $ is a scalar function, the unique continuation property holds when $V\in L_{loc}^{2n}$ and is $\bar\partial$-closed. For vector-valued smooth solutions, we establish the unique continuation property either when $V\in L_{loc}^p $, $ p>2n$ for $n\ge 3$, or when $V\in L_{loc}^{2n}$ for $n = 2$. Finally, we discuss the unique continuation property for some special cases where $V\notin L_{loc}^{2n}$, for instance, $V $ is a constant multiple of $ \frac{1}{|z|}$.

Quantitative strong unique continuation property for the Schrödinger operator with unbounded potential

Abstract:We revisit \cite[Theorem 6.3]{JK}. Following the main ideas used to prove this theorem, we establish a quantitative version of the strong unique continuation property for the Schödinger operator with unbounded potential. We also show that a combination of this result with a global quantitative unique continuation property from an arbitrary interior data yields a global quantitative strong unique continuation.

Abstract:In this paper, we established a quantitative unique continuation results for a coupled heat equations, with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, on a bounded convex domain Ω of $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with smooth boundary ∂Ω. Our result shows that the value of the solutions can be determined uniquely by its value on an arbitrary open subset ω of Ω at any given positive time T.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the quantitative unique continuation property of solutions to \begin{equation*} \Delta^2u=Vu, \end{equation*} where $V\in W^{1,\infty}$. We show that the maximal vanishing order of the solutions is not large than \begin{equation} C\left(\|V\|^{\frac{1}{4}}_{L^{\infty}}+\|\nabla V\|_{L^{\infty}}+1\right). \end{equation} Our key argument is to lift the original equation to that with a positive potential, then decompose the resulted fourth-order equation into a special system of two second-order equations. Based on the special system, we define a variant frequency function with weights and derive its almost monotonicity to establishing some doubling inequalities with explicit dependence on the Sobolev norm of the potential function.

Abstract:We present a simple and self-contained approach to establish the unique continuation property for some classical evolution equations of second order in a cylindrical domain. We namely discuss this property for wave, parabolic and Schödinger operators with time-independent principal part. Our method is builds on two-parameter Carleman inequalities combined with unique continuation across a pseudo-convex hypersurface with respect to the space variable. The most results we demonstrate in this work are more or less classical. Some of them are not stated exactly as in their original form.

Abstract:One kind of unique continuation property for a wave equation is discussed. The authors show that, if one classical solution of the wave equation vanishes in an open set on a hyperplane, then it must vanish in a larger set on this hyperplane. The result can be viewed as a localized version of Robbiano's result([9]). The approach involves the localized Fourier-Gauss transformation and unique continuation on a line in the Laplace equation.

Abstract:In this article, we investigate the quantitative unique continuation properties of complex-valued solutions to drift equations in the plane. We consider equations of the form $\Delta u + W \cdot \nabla u = 0$ in $\mathbb{R}^2$, where $W = W_1 + i W_2$ with each $W_j$ real-valued. Under the assumptions that $W_j \in L^{q_j}$ for some $q_1 \in [2, \infty]$, $q_2 \in (2, \infty]$, and $W_2$ exhibits rapid decay at infinity, we prove new global unique continuation estimates. This improvement is accomplished by reducing our equations to vector-valued Beltrami systems. Our results rely on a novel order of vanishing estimate combined with a finite iteration scheme.

Abstract:In this work, we investigate the quantitative estimates of the unique continuation property for solutions of an elliptic equation $\Delta u = V u + W_1 \cdot \nabla u + \hbox{div} (W_2 u)$ in an open, connected subset of $\mathbb{R}^d$, where $d \geq 3$. Here, $V \in L^{q_0}$, $W_1 \in L^{q_1}$, and $W_2 \in L^{q_2}$ with $q_0 > d/2$, $q_1 > d$, and $q_2 > d$. Our aim is to provide an explicit quantification of the unique continuation property with respect to the norms of the potentials. To achieve this, we revisit the Carleman estimates established in [Dehman-Ervedoza-Thabouti-2023] and prove a refined version of them, and we combine them with an argument due to T. Wolff introduced in [Wolff-1992] for the proof of unique continuation for solutions of equations of the form $\Delta u = V u + W_1 \cdot \nabla u$.

Abstract:This paper studies the quantitative unique continuation for a semi-linear parabolic-elliptic coupled system on a bounded domain Ω. This system is a simplified version of the chemotaxis model introduced by Keller and Segel in [14]. With the aid of priori L ∞ -estimates (for solutions of the system) built up in this paper, we treat the semi-linear parabolic equation in the system as a linear parabolic equation, and then use the frequency function method and the localization technique to build up two unique continuation inequalities for the system. As a consequence of the above-mentioned two inequalities, we have the following qualitative unique continuation property: if one component of a solution vanishes in a nonempty open subset ω ⊂ Ω at some time T > 0 , then the solution is identically zero.
