Abstract:We develop a symmetric analog of brace algebras and discuss the relation of such algebras to $L_{\infty}$-algebras. We give an alternate proof that the category of symmetric brace algebras is isomorphic to the category of pre-Lie algebras. As an application, symmetric braces are used to describe transfers of strongly homotopy structures. We then explain how these symmetric brace algebras may be used to examine the $L_{\infty}$-algebras that result from a particular gauge theory for massless particles of high spin.

Abstract:Over a field of characteristic zero, we prove that the Freiheitssatz holds for brace algebras, the word problem for the brace algebras with a single defining relation is decidable, two generated subalgebras of free brace algebras are free, and that automorphisms of two generated free brace algebras are tame.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a brace algebra. This structure implies that $A$ is also a pre-Lie algebra. In this paper, we establish Composition-Diamond lemma for brace algebras. Using this Composition-Diamond lemma we prove that each pre-Lie algebra $L$ can be embedded into a brace algebra $A_L$, i.e., $L$ is a pre-Lie subalgebra of $A_L$ up to isomorphism. We also determine an explicit linear basis for the brace algebra $A_{L}$.

Abstract:Isabel Martin-Lyons and Paul J.Truman generalized the definition of a skew brace to give a new algebraic object, which they termed a skew bracoid. Their construction involves two groups interacting in a manner analogous to the compatibility condition found in the definition of a skew brace. They formulated tools for characterizing and classifying skew bracoids, and studied substructures and quotients of skew bracoids. In this paper we study two-sided bracoids. In \cite{WR07} Rump showed that if a left brace $(B, \star ,\cdot )$ is a two-sided brace and the operation $\ast : B \times B \longrightarrow B$ is defined by $a \ast b = a\cdot b \star \overline{a} \star \overline{b}$ for all $a, b \in B$ then $(B, \star ,\ast )$ is a Jacobson radical ring. Lau showed that if $(B, \star ,\cdot )$ is a left brace and the operation is asssociative, then $B$ is a two-sided brace. We will prove bracoid versions of this results.

Abstract:We study left braces satisfying special conditions, or identities. We are particularly interested in the impact of conditions like Raut and lri on the properties of the left brace and its associated solution of the Yang–Baxter equation (YBE). We show that the solution ( G , r G ) of the YBE associated to the structure group G = G ( X , r ) (with the natural structure of a left brace) of a nontrivial solution ( X , r ) of the YBE has multipermutation level 2 if and only if G satisfies lri. It is known that every (left) brace with lri satisfies condition Raut. We prove that for a graded Jacobson radical ring with no elements of additive order two the conditions lri and Raut are equivalent. We construct a finite two-sided brace with condition Raut which does not satisfy lri. We show that a finitely generated two-sided brace which satisfies lri has a finite multipermutation level which is bounded by the number of its generators.

Abstract:We introduce affine structures on groups and show they form a category equivalent to that of semi-braces. In particular, such a new description of semi-braces includes that presented by Rump for braces. By specific affine structures, we provide several instances of bi-skew braces, including some that are not $\lambda$-homomorphic. Finally, we give a method for determining affine structures on the Zappa product of two groups both endowed with affine structures and prove that such a construction allows for obtaining semi-braces that are not matched product of semi-braces.

Abstract:It is proven that a matched pair of actions on a Hopf algebra $H$ is equivalent to the datum of a Yetter-Drinfeld brace, which is a novel structure generalising Hopf braces. This improves a theorem by Angiono, Galindo and Vendramin, originally stated for cocommutative Hopf braces. These Yetter-Drinfeld braces produce Hopf algebras in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over $H$, through an operation that generalises Majid's transmutation. A characterisation of Yetter-Drinfeld braces via 1-cocycles, in analogy to the one for Hopf braces, is given. Every coquasitriangular Hopf algebra $H$ will be seen to yield a Yetter-Drinfeld brace, where the additional structure on $H$ is given by the transmutation. We compute explicit examples of Yetter-Drinfeld braces on the Sweedler's Hopf algebra, on the algebras $E(n)$, on $\mathrm{SL}_{q}(2)$, and an example in the class of Suzuki algebras.

Abstract:We define a bi-skew brace to be a set $G$ with two group operations $\star$ and $\circ$ so that $(G, \circ, \star)$ is a skew brace with additive group $(G, \star)$ and also with additive group $(G, \circ)$. If $G$ is a skew brace, then $G$ corresponds to a Hopf Galois structure of type $(G, \star)$ on any Galois extension of fields with Galois group isomorphic to $(G, \circ)$. If $G$ is a bi-skew brace, then $G$ also corresponds to a Hopf Galois structure of type $(G, \circ)$ on a Galois extension of fields with Galois group isomorphic to $(G, \star)$. Many non-trivial examples exist. One source is radical rings $A$ with $A^3 = 0$, where one of the groups is abelian and the other need not be. The left braces of degree $p^3$ classified by Bachiller are bi-skew braces if and only they are radical rings. A different source of bi-skew braces is semidirect products of arbitrary finite groups, which yield many examples where both groups are non-abelian, and a skew brace proof of a result of Crespo, Rio and Vela that if $G = H\rtimes J$ is a semidirect product of finite groups, then a Galois extension of fields with Galois group $G$ has a Hopf Galois structure of type $H \times J$.

Abstract:Hopf braces have been introduced as a Hopf-theoretic generalization of skew braces. Under the assumption of cocommutativity, these algebraic structures are equivalent to matched pairs of actions on Hopf algebras, that can be used to produce solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. We prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf braces is semi-abelian and strongly protomodular. In particular, this implies that the main homological lemmas known for groups, Lie algebras and other classical algebraic structures also hold for cocommutative Hopf braces. Abelian objects are commutative and cocommutative Hopf algebras, that form an abelian Birkhoff subcategory of the category of cocommutative Hopf braces. Moreover, we show that the full subcategories of "primitive Hopf braces" and of "skew braces" form an hereditary torsion theory in the category of cocommutative Hopf braces, and that "skew braces" are also a Birkhoff subcategory and a localization of the latter category. Finally, we describe central extensions and commutators for cocommutative Hopf braces.

Skew bracoids containing a skew brace

Abstract:Skew bracoids have been shown to have applications in Hopf-Galois theory. We show that a certain family of skew bracoids correspond bijectively with left cancellative semibraces. A consequence of this correspondence is that skew bracoids in this family can be used to obtain and study solutions of the set-theoretic Yang--Baxter equation; we study this process and the resulting solutions. We give numerous examples of skew bracoids satisfying our hypothesis, drawing upon a variety of constructions in the literature.

Abstract:A left brace is a triple $(\mathcal{B},+,\cdot)$, where $(\mathcal{B},+)$ is an abelian group, $(\mathcal{B},\cdot)$ is a group, and there is a left-distributivity-like axiom that relates between the two operations in $\mathcal{B}$. In analogy with a left brace, we define a left $\mathscr{M}$-brace to be a triple $(\mathcal{B},+,\cdot)$, where $(\mathcal{B},+)$ is a commutative monoid, $(\mathcal{B},\cdot)$ is a monoid, and the axiom of left distributivity holds. A lcm-monoid $M$ is a left-cancellative monoid such that $1$ is the unique invertible element in $M$, and every pair of elements in $M$ admit a lcm with respect to left-divisibility. The class of lcm-monoids contains the Gaussian, quasi-Garside and Garside monoids. We show that every lcm-monoid induces a left $\mathscr{M}$-brace. Furthermore, we show that every Gaussian group induces a partial left brace.

On Dextral Symmetric Algebra

Abstract:We define the notion of dextral symmetric algebras (not necessarily associative), motivated by the idea of symmetric rings. We derive a complete classification of dextral symmetric algebras of Leavitt path algebras, and right Leibniz algebras up to dimension $4$. We also obtain that a finite-dimensional dextral symmetric right Leibniz algebra is solvable if and only if it satisfies a weaker notion of nilpotency.

Abstract:According to Letourmy and Vendramin, a representation of a skew brace is a pair of representations on the same vector space, one for the additive group and the other for the multiplicative group, that satisfies a certain compatibility condition. Following their definition, we shall explain how some of the results from representation theory of groups, such as Maschke's theorem and Clifford's theorem, extend naturally to that of skew braces. We shall also give some concrete examples to illustrate that skew brace representations are more difficult to classify than group representations.

Abstract:This paper introduces Hopf braces, a new algebraic structure related to the Yang-Baxter equation which include Rump's braces and their non-commutative generalizations as particular cases. Several results of classical braces are still valid in our context. Furthermore, Hopf braces provide the right setting for considering left symmetric algebras as Lie-theoretical analogs of braces.

In the present paper we find all possible pairs $(\varphi,\psi)$ of matrices from ${\rm GL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$ which lead to $\lambda$-homomorphic braces with $(A,\oplus)=\mathbb{Z}^2$. The obtained result gives the full classification of $\lambda$-homomorphic braces on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ which was started by Bardakov, Neshchadim and Yadav in [J. Pure App. Algebra, V. 226, N. 6, 2022, 106961].

On Grün's lemma for perfect skew braces

Abstract:By previous work of Cedó, Smoktunowicz, and Vendramin, one already knows that the analog of Grün's lemma fails to hold for perfect skew left braces when the socle is used as an analog of the center of a group. In this paper, we use the annihilator instead of the socle. We shall show that the analog of Grün's lemma holds for perfect two-sided skew braces but not in general.

Abstract:L. Childs has defined a skew brace (G,⋅,∘) to be a bi-skew brace if (G,∘,⋅) is also a skew brace, and has given applications of this concept to the equivalent theory of Hopf-Galois structures.The goal of this paper is to deal with bi-skew braces (G,⋅,∘) from the yet equivalent point of view of regular subgroups of the holomorph of (G,⋅). In particular, we find that certain groups studied by T. Kohl, F. Dalla Volta and the author, and C. Tsang all yield examples of bi-skew braces.Building on a construction of Childs, we also give various methods for exhibiting further examples of bi-skew braces.

Abstract:Braces are generalizations of radical rings, introduced by Rump to study involutive non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). Skew braces were also recently introduced as a tool to study not necessarily involutive solutions. Roughly speaking, skew braces provide group-theoretical and ring-theoretical methods to understand solutions of the YBE. It turns out that skew braces appear in many different contexts, such as near-rings, matched pairs of groups, triply factorized groups, bijective 1-cocycles and Hopf-Galois extensions. These connections and some of their consequences are explored in this paper. We produce several new families of solutions related in many different ways with rings, near-rings and groups. We also study the solutions of the YBE that skew braces naturally produce. We prove, for example, that the order of the canonical solution associated with a finite skew brace is even: it is two times the exponent of the additive group modulo its center.
