Abstract:Consider a compact Kähler manifold which either admits an extremal Kähler metric, or is a small deformation of such a manifold. We show that the blowup of the manifold at a point admits an extremal Kähler metric in Kähler classes making the exceptional divisor sufficiently small if and only if it is relatively K-stable, as predicted by the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture. We also give a geometric interpretation of what relative K-stability means in this case in terms of finite dimensional geometric invariant theory. This gives a complete solution to a problem introduced and solved by Arezzo, Pacard, Singer and Székelyhidi for constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics in dimension at least three.

Calabi-Yau Manifolds with Isolated Conical Singularities

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.
Weighted extremal metrics on blowups

Abstract:We show that if a compact Kähler manifold admits a weighted extremal metric for the action of a torus, so too does its blowup at a relatively stable point that is fixed by both the torus action and the extremal field. This generalises previous results on extremal metrics by Arezzo--Pacard--Singer and Székelyhidi to many other canonical metrics, including extremal Sasaki metrics, deformations of Kähler--Ricci solitons and $\mu$-cscK metrics. In a sequel to this paper, we use this result to study the weighted K-stability of weighted extremal manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of extremal metrics on toric Kähler surfaces. We show that on every toric Kähler surface, there exists a Kähler class in which the surface admits an extremal metric of Calabi. We found a toric Kähler surface of 9 TC2-fixed points which admits an unstable Kähler class and there is no extremal metric of Calabi in it. Moreover, we prove a characterization of the K-stability of toric surfaces by simple piecewise linear functions. As an application, we show that among all toric Kähler surfaces with 5 or 6 TC2-fixed points, CP2#3CP¯2 is the only one which allows vanishing Futaki invariant and admits extremal metrics of constant scalar curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, I give a new construction of a Kähler-Einstein metrics on a smooth projective variety with ample canonical bundle. This result can be generalized to the construction of a singular Kähler-Einstein metric on a smooth projective variety of general type which gives an AZD of the canonical bundle. Also the variation of Bergman kernels and Kähler-Einstein volume form have been considered.

Abstract:We exhibit families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on K3 surfaces which collapse to an interval, with Tian-Yau and Taub-NUT metrics occurring as bubbles. There is a corresponding continuous surjective map from the K3 surface to the interval, with regular fibers diffeomorphic to either 3-tori or Heisenberg nilmanifolds.

Abstract:Generalizing previous results of Arezzo-Pacard-Singer, Seyyedali-Székelyhidi and Hallam, we prove the invariance under smooth blowups of the class of weighted extremal Kähler manifolds, modulo a log-concavity assumption on the first weight. Through recent work of Di Nezza-Jubert-Lahdili and Han-Liu, this is obtained as a consequence of a general uniform coercivity estimate for the (relative, weighted) Mabuchi energy on the blowup, which applies more generally to any equivariant resolution of singularities of Fano type of a compact Kähler klt space whose Mabuchi energy is assumed to be coercive.

Warped quasi-asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau metrics

Abstract:We construct many new examples of complete Calabi-Yau metrics of maximal volume growth on certain smoothings of Cartesian products of Calabi-Yau cones with smooth cross-sections. A detailed description of the geometry at infinity of these metrics is given in terms of a compactification by a manifold with corners obtained through the notion of weighted blow-up for manifolds with corners. A key analytical step in the construction of these Calabi-Yau metrics is to derive good mapping properties of the Laplacian on some suitable weighted Hölder spaces. Our methods also produce singular Calabi-Yau metrics with an isolated conical singularity modelled on a Calabi-Yau cone distinct from the tangent cone at infinity, in particular yielding a transition behavior between different Calabi-Yau cones as conjectured by Yang Li. This is used to exhibit many examples where the tangent cone at infinity does not uniquely specify a complete Calabi-Yau metric with exact Kähler form.

Abstract:We discover a “no semistability at infinity” phenomenon for complete Calabi-Yau metrics asymptotic to cones, which is proved by eliminating the possible appearance of an intermediate K-semistable cone in the 2-step degeneration theory developed by Donaldson and the first author. It is in sharp contrast to the setting of local singularities of Kähler-Einstein metrics. A byproduct of the proof is a polynomial convergence rate to the asymptotic cone for such manifolds, which bridges the gap between the general theory of Colding-Minicozzi and the classification results of Conlon-Hein.
An iterative construction of complete Kähler--Einstein metrics

Abstract:We extend Tsuji's iterative construction of a Kähler--Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature to (non-compact) Kähler manifolds with bounded geometry, using Berndtsson's method for the compact setting. Consequently, given a holomorphic surjective map $p:X \to Y$, where $X$ is a weakly pseudoconvex Kähler manifold and $Y$ is a complex manifold, whose smooth fibers admit Kähler--Einstein metrics with negative scalar curvature and bounded geometry, we show that the fiberwise Kähler--Einstein metric induces a semi-positively curved metric on the relative canonical bundle $K_{X/Y}$ of $p$. Moreover, our approach can be applied to obtain the plurisubharmonic variation of cusp Kähler--Einstein metrics.

Abstract:Let $B$ be a Kähler-Einstein Fano manifold, and $L \to B$ be a suitable root of the canonical bundle. We give a construction of complete Calabi-Yau metrics and gradient shrinking, steady, and expanding Kähler-Ricci solitons on the total space $M$, ${\rm dim}_{\mathbb{C}} M = n$ of certain vector bundles $E \to B$, composed of direct sums of powers of $L$. We employ the theory of hamiltonian 2-forms [2, 3] as an Ansatz, thus generalizing recent work of the author and Apostolov on $\mathbb{C}^n$ [5], as well as that of Cao, Koiso, Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf, Futaki-Wang, and Chi Li [10, 26, 23, 24, 30] when $E$ has Calabi symmetry. As a result, we obtain new examples of asymptotically conical Kähler shrinkers, Calabi-Yau metrics with ALF-like volume growth, and steady solitons with volume growth $R^{\frac{4n-2}{3}}$.

Abstract:Given a polarized Kähler manifold (X,L). The space ℋ of Kähler metrics in $$ 2_\Pi {c_1}{(L)}$$ is an infinite-dimensional Riemannian symmetric space. As a metric space, it has non-positive curvature. There is associated to ℋ a sequence of finite-dimensional symmetric spaces $$ \mathcal{B}_{k}{({k}\, \epsilon \,\mathbb{N})} $$ of non-compact Type. We prove that ℋ is the limit of $$ \mathcal{B}_{k} $$ as metric spaces in certain sense. As applications, this provides more geometric proofs of certain known geometric properties of the space ℋ.

Abstract:We pursue the symplectic description of toric Kahler manifolds. There exists a general local classification of metrics on toric Kahler manifolds equipped with Hamiltonian two-forms due to Apostolov, Calderbank and Gauduchon(ACG). We derive the symplectic potential for these metrics. Using a method due to Abreu, we relate the symplectic potential to the canonical potential written by Guillemin. This enables us to recover the moment polytope associated with metrics and we thus obtain global information about the metric. We illustrate these general considerations by focusing on six-dimensional Ricci flat metrics and obtain Ricci flat metrics associated with real cones over L^{pqr} and Y^{pq} manifolds. The metrics associated with cones over Y^{pq} manifolds turn out to be partially resolved with two blowup parameters taking special (non-zero)values. For a fixed Y^{pq} manifold, we find explicit metrics for several inequivalent blow-ups parametrised by a natural number k in the range 0<k<p. We also show that all known examples of resolved metrics such as the resolved conifold and the resolution of C^3/Z_3 also fit the ACG classification.

Abstract:In the present work the local form of certain Calabi-Yau metrics possessing a local Hamiltonian Killing vector is described in terms of a single non linear equation. The main assumptions are that the complex $(3,0)$-form is of the form $e^{ik}\widetilde{\Psi}$, where $\widetilde{\Psi}$ is preserved by the Killing vector, and that the space of the orbits of the Killing vector is, for fixed value of the momentum map coordinate, a complex 4-manifold, in such a way that the complex structure of the 4-manifold is part of the complex structure of the complex 3-fold. The link with the solution generating techniques of [26]-[28] is made explicit and in particular an example with holonomy exactly SU(3) is found by use of the linearization of [26], which was found in the context of D6 branes wrapping a holomorphic 1-fold in a hyperkahler manifold. But the main improvement of the present method, unlike the ones presented in [26]-[28], does not rely in an initial hyperkahler structure. Additionally the complications when dealing with non linear operators over the curved hyperkahler space are avoided by use of this method.

A continuous cusp closing process for negative Kähler-Einstein metrics

Abstract:We give an example of a family of smooth complex algebraic surfaces of degree $6$ in $\mathbb{CP}^3$ developing an isolated elliptic singularity. We show via a gluing construction that the unique Kähler-Einstein metrics of Ricci curvature $-1$ on these sextics develop a complex hyperbolic cusp in the limit, and that near the tip of the forming cusp a Tian-Yau gravitational instanton bubbles off.

Abstract:It is known that a given smooth del Pezzo surface or Fano threefold $X$ admits a choice of log Calabi-Yau compactified mirror toric Landau-Ginzburg model (with respect to certain fixed Kähler classes and Gorenstein toric degenerations). Here we consider the problem of constructing a corresponding map $\Theta$ from a domain in the complexified Kähler cone of $X$ to a well-defined, separated moduli space $\mathfrak{M}$ of polarised manifolds endowed with a canonical metric. We prove a complete result for del Pezzos and a partial result for some special Fano threefolds. The construction uses some fundamental results in the theory of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. As a consequence $\mathfrak{M}$ parametrises $K$-stable manifolds and the domain of $\Theta$ is endowed with the pullback of a Weil-Petersson form.
