Abstract:Four, presumably microendemic new Leuctra species are described on the basis of morphology of the adult males and females. Each species was collected only in a single mountain range of the western Balkans: Leuctra enigma Kovács & Murányi, sp. nov. (Albania, Çermenikë), L. golija sp. nov. (Serbia, Golija), L. puskasi sp. nov. (Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kozara), L. visitor sp. nov. (Montenegro, Visitor). Their morphological affinities and ecology are discussed, phylogenetic relations will be described in the framework of ongoing molecular studies of Balkan Leuctra species. The occurrences of the new species are depicted on a map. A list of Balkan endemic Leuctra species is given. Leuctra dalmoni Vinçon & Murányi, 2007 is new for Albania and Montenegro, Nemoura uncinata Despax, 1934, N. marginata Pictet, 1836 and Isoperla buresi Raušer, 1962 are new for Albania, Nemoura sciurus Aubert, 1949 is new for Bosnia & Herzegovina, while Capnia s. l. vidua rilensis Raušer, 1962 and L. metsovonica Aubert, 1956 are new for Montenegro.

Abstract:A new subterranean leptodirine leiodid beetle, Speoplanes biocovensis bosnicus Vrbica, Vesović, Rađa & Ćurčić, ssp. n. , is described and diagnosed from a pit in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is the first discovery of the genus Speoplanes Müller, 1911 in this country and the first discovery outside Croatia. Important morphological features of the new taxon are presented, including aspects of the male and female genitalia. The subspecies is endemic to the Dinaric mountain range of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A key to the identification of taxa of the genus Speoplanes is added.

Abstract:Bibrax popeye Asenjo, Concha-Lozada, Gallego-Ropero & Gouvea, sp. nov. , of the Neotropical Pselaphinae of the tribe Metopiasini, is described from the department of Cauca in southeastern Colombia. Diagnosis is provided for the genus and new species; with illustrations of the major diagnosis features, a key to the known species, and a distribution map.

Abstract:Though recent investigations have contributed substantially to our understanding of the Alpine-Dinaric radiation of the genus Zospeum Bourguignat, 1856, its southernmost member, Zospeum troglobalcanicum Absolon, 1916, has remained a taxonomic ghost. The assumed absence of type material, the insufficient original description, and the lack of new samples from its Western Balkan type locality have stymied further clarification. The recent discovery of a single syntype shell housed at the Natural History Museum Vienna now enables the first morphological assessment via 3D X-ray and SEM imaging. Based on this image data, different characters for assessing the southernmost members of the genus are determined and a lectotype is designated. Eleven allied species from 15 Western Balkan populations are described from museum material and recent sampling efforts: Z. amplioscutum Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. biokovoense Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. constrictum Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. dubokidoense Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. intermedium Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. kolbae Jochum, Inäbnit, Kneubühler & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. neuberti Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. njegusiense Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. njunjicae Jochum, Schilthuizen & Ruthensteiner sp. nov., Z. tortuosum Jochum & Ruthensteiner sp. nov. and Z. tumidum Jochum, Schilthuizen & Ruthensteiner sp. nov. One species, Z. kolbae, is described using DNA sequence data and one species, Z. simplex Inäbnit, Jochum & Neubert, 2021 for which DNA sequence data is already available, is supported by morphological data presented in this study. The DNA sequence dataset (COI, 16S and H3) is included here and implemented in the most recent phylogenetic reconstruction of the genus. A translation of Karel Absolon’s notes from the Balkan scientific expeditions is provided.

Abstract:Three species of the genus Brueelia Kéler, 1936 are reported from South Africa for the first time: Brueelia cyclothorax (Burmeister, 1838) ex Passer domesticus (Linnaeus, 1758), Brueelia queleae Sychra & Barlev [in Sychra et al.], 2010a ex Quelea quelea lathami (Smith, 1836), and Brueelia coryliventer Gustafsson & Bush, 2015, ex Creatophora cinerea (Meuschen, 1787). In addition, two new species of Brueelia are described from South African ploceids: Brueelia oschadlei n. sp. ex Ploceus capensis (Linnaeus, 1766), and Brueelia inusta n. sp. ex Ploceus velatus tahatali Smith, 1836. Also, we discuss the “African pied Brueelia” species-group—to which the two new species belong—in particular the variation in pigmentation patterns on the subgenital plates of both sexes.

Abstract:Investigation of the darkling beetle (Tenebrionidae) specimens from the Natural History Museum Basel (Switzerland) resulted in the discovery of two new species of Afrotropical toktokkies (tribe Sepidiini). Both taxa provided novel morphological data which, in the light of previously acquired molecular evidence, challenged the taxonomic coherence of the genus Dichtha . To accommodate this information a new genus Bouchardium gen. nov. is hereby proposed. The three following species were assigned to this new genus: Bouchardium chillygonzalesi sp. nov. (type species), B. cubicum (Guérin-Méneville, 1845) comb. nov. (transferred from Dichtha ), B. mariae sp. nov . The placement of Bouchardium within the subtribe Molurina is briefly discussed. Additionally, a new species of the genus Toktokkus ( T. zofiae sp. nov. ) is described from South Africa.

Abstract:The genus Xenasterides Newton, 2017 is considered here as a junior synonym of Pseudastenus Bernhauer, 1933, both monotypic and Neotropical genera of Paederinae (Staphylinidae). A thorough description of the genus is provided. The species Pseudastenus barretoi Bernhauer, 1933 and P. plaumanni (Bierig, 1939) are redescribed and illustrated, six new species are described, and a dichotomous key is available for species. These new species are: P. amazonicus, P. ferrugineus, P. latus, P. oculatus, P, ribeirocostae, and P. schubarti.

Abstract:Collections of Heteroptera at the Natural History Museum in Belgrade include four species of genus Stygnocoris: S. cimbricus, S. fuligineus, S. rusticus and S. sabulosus. S. cimbricus is a new species in Serbian fauna. This paper combines all records of genus Stygnocoris in Serbia and presents data for 46 specimens within 22 recording sets.

Abstract:Aphaenogasterillyrica sp. nov., a member of the A.subterranea species group, is described from Dinaric Alps of Slovenia and Croatia, from Golešnica Mt. in north Macedonia, Osogovo-Belasica Massif of southwestern Bulgaria, and from Kerkini Mts. of Greek Macedonia. It is characterised by large body size, moderately sculptured head, elevated mesonotum, and long propodeal spines. Its habitat preferences are discussed. A key to the Aphaenogastergraeca complex is provided.

Abstract:A new genus Kaszubia gen. nov. (type species Kaszubia wanati sp. nov.) is described from Eocene Baltic amber (found in the vicinity of Gdańsk). It is similar to the genus Rhyncolosoma Champion, 1914 but differs in the six-segmented flagellum, rather thick straight rostrum, non-transverse 3rd antennomere, and scape not reaching the middle of the eye.

Abstract:Nineteen species of the genus Octavius Fauvel, 1873 from Maloti-Drakensberg and Golden Gate National Parks, South Africa were recognised. Abstract:Until now, the subgenus Lyrothorax Chaudoir, 1838 (genus Pterostichus Bonelli, 1810) in the Western Palaearctic included only the type species, P. caspius (Ménétriés, 1832), distributed along the southern Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan and Iran and, as an introduced species, in the Czech Republic. Studying rich material, including the types, it was found that under the name P. caspius there is a species complex comprising three closely related species, two of these are described in this paper: P. fritzei sp. n. from Iran (type locality Naharkhoran, Gorgan) and P. vagus sp. n. from Iran, which was also introduced to the Czech Republic (type locality Shaskola, Gorgan). These new species differ clearly from each other, as well as from P. caspius, mainly in the features of the median lobe of the aedeagus and its endophallus. A lectotype of P. caspius is designated to ensure the stability of the nomenclature. An identification key, images of all three species and distribution maps are provided. The occurrence of species of Lyrothorax in the Iranian province of North Khorasan and Turkmenistan is not obvious and requires confirmation.

Abstract:The cephenniine genus Pomphopsilla currently comprises twelve nominal species distributed in Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda and the Seychelles. Three new species are described, all based on specimens collected in Togo: P. spinosa sp. n., P. bifurcata sp. n. and P. klotoensis sp. n. The distribution of Pomphopsilla is summarized.

Abstract:A new fossil subgenus and species of the genus Rhysipolis Foerster, 1863 from the subfamily Rhysipolinae, Rhysipolis ( Granulopolis ) simutniki Belokobylskij , subgen. et sp. nov. , are described and illustrated from late Eocene Baltic amber. The genus Trichelyon Ortega-Blanco & Engel, 2012 is synonymised with Clinocentrus Haliday, 1833 ( syn. nov. ) and a new combination, Clinocentrus tadkeshwarense (Ortega-Blanco & Engel, 2012), comb. nov. , is suggested. The status of the previously described species in the subfamily Rhysipolinae are discussed.

Abstract:A new species of the genus Dropephylla Mulsant & Rey, 1880 is described and illustrated: D. loebli sp. nov. (northeastern Türkiye, Kars). Besides that, new faunistic data for 16 species (Omaliini) from the Western Palaearctic Region are provided. The aedeagus of D. cretica Jászay & Hlaváč, 2006 is illustrated. Several species are recorded from certain regions for the first time: D. caucasica (Kolenati, 1846) from Georgia, D. cretica from Türkiye and Lebanon, D. ioptera (Stephens, 1834) from Serbia, Phloeonomus ( Phloeonomodes ) minimus Erichson, 1839 from Ukraine, southwestern part of Russia and Türkiye, and Phyllodrepa floralis (Paykull, 1789) from Syria.

Abstract:Two new cavernicolous pselaphines, Araneibatrus curvitibialis Yin and Zhou, sp. n. and Tribasodites biyun Yin and Zhou, sp. n., are described from southern China, with diagnostic characters illustrated. Both new species can be readily distinguished from their respective congeners by the male dimorphic features on the antennae, legs, and (or) metaventrite, as well as by the configurations of the aedeagi.

Abstract:Two new species of Stenus Latreille, 1797 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Steninae) are described from Timor-Leste. Nine species of Stenus are now known to occur in Timor-Leste: S. ferreirai Puthz, 1966; S. hatobuilico Jenkins Shaw & Reid sp. nov.; S. melanarius annamita Fauvel, 1895; S. piliferus timoricola Puthz, 1966; S. ramelau Jenkins Shaw & Reid sp. nov.; S. rorellus cursorius L. Benick, 1921; S. tenebricus tenebricus Puthz, 1966; S. timorensis Puthz, 1966; S. timoricus Puthz, 1966. Appropriate species-group classification of the two new species is discussed. They are brachypterous and montane, restricted to elevations above 2000 m in the Ramelau Massif. A key is provided for identification of Timorese Stenus species and new records of the described species noted.
