Abstract:On a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g$, one of the questions is the existence of meromorphic functions having poles at a point $P$ on $X$. One of the theorems is the Weierstrass gap theorem that determines a sequence of $g$ numbers $1 < n_k < 2g$, $1 \leq k \leq g$ for which a meromorphic function with the order with $n_k$ fails to exist at $P$. In this note, we give proof of the Weierstrass gap theorem in cohomology terminology. We see that an interesting combinatorial problem may be formed as a byproduct from the statement of the Weierstrass gap theorem.

Abstract:Let M be an n (>= 7)-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the hyperbolic space Hn+p, whose mean curvature satisfies H-2-1 <= 0. Denote by angstrom and B-R(q) the trace free second fundamental form of M and the geodesic ball of radius R centered at q is an element of M, respectively. We prove that if lim(R ->infinity) sup integral(vertical bar angstrom vertical bar 2dM)(BR(q))/R-2 and if (integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n) dM)(2/n) + 2n(n-2)/3 root n(n-1) H(integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n/2)dM)(2/n) <= C(n), then M is congruent to an n-dimensional hyperbolic space or the Euclidean space R-n. Abstract:An n-dimensional lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 is the critical point of the weighted area functional integral(M) e(-1/4|X|2) d mu for weighted volume-preserving variations, which is also a generalization of the self-shrinking solution of the mean curvature flow. We first prove that if the L-n-norm of the second fundamental form of the lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant K(n, lambda), then M is a hyperplane. Secondly, we show that if the L-n-norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of M with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant D(n, lambda) and the mean curvature is suitably bounded, then M is a hyperplane. We also obtain similar results for lambda-surfaces in R-3 under L-4-curvature pinching conditions.

Abstract:We consider the problem of determining Weierstrass gaps and pure Weierstrass gaps at several points. Using the notion of relative maximality in generalized Weierstrass semigroups due to Delgado (Proc Am Math Soc 108(3):627–631, 1990), we present a description of these elements which generalizes the approach of Homma and Kim (J Pure Appl Algebra 162(2–3):273–290, 2001) given for pairs. Through this description, we study the gaps and pure gaps at several points on a certain family of curves with separated variables.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Bismut–Zhang, which extends the Cheeger–Müller theorem on Ray–Singer torsion and Reidemeister torsion, to the case of infinite Galois covering spaces. Our result is stated in the framework of extended cohomology, and generalizes in this case a recent result of Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai. It does not use the determinant class condition and thus also (potentially) generalizes several results on L2-torsions due to Burghelea, Friedlander, Kappeler and McDonald. We combine the framework developed by Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai on the determinant of extended cohomology with the heat kernel method developed in the original paper of Bismut–Zhang to prove our result.

Abstract:We prove the existence of spectral gaps of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators on loop spaces over a class of Riemannian manifolds which include hyperbolic spaces. This is an alternative proof and an extension of a result in Chen-Li-Wu in J. Funct. Anal. 259 (2010), 1421-1442. Further, we study the asymptotic behavior of the spectral gap.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of gap sequences for compact sets E ⊂ R , which is a generalization of the gap sequences of compact sets on the real line. We show that if the gap sequences of two fractal sets are not equivalent, then these two sets cannot be Lipschitz equivalent, where the latter fact is usually very hard to verify. Abstract:We first established a hyperplane restriction theorem for the local holomorphic mappings between projective spaces, which is inspired by an analogous theorem of M. Green for the linear systems on ℙ^n . The theorem would then be used to prove the existence of a sequence of gaps for the rational proper maps between complex unit balls, conjectured by Huang–Ji–Yin. Our proof does not distinguish the unit balls from other generalized balls and thus it simultaneously demonstrates the same phenomenon for all generalized balls.

Abstract:We prove a gap rigidity theorem for diagonal curves in irreducible compact Hermitian symmetric spaces of tube type, which is a dual analogy to a theorem obtained by Mok in noncompact case. Motivated by the proof we give a theorem on weaker gap rigidity problems for higher dimensional submanifolds.

Abstract:In this work, using maximal elements in generalized Weierstrass semigroups and its relationship with pure gaps, we extend the results in \cite{CMT2024} and provide a way to completely determine the set of pure gaps at several rational places in an arbitrary function field $F$ over a finite field and its cardinality. As an example, we determine the cardinality and a simple explicit description of the set of pure gaps at several rational places distinct to the infinity place on Kummer extensions, which is a different characterization from that presented by Hu and Yang in \cite{HY2018}. Furthermore, we present some applications in coding theory and AG codes with good parameters.

Abstract:We discuss upper and lower bounds for the size of gaps in the length spectrum of negatively curved manifolds. For manifolds with algebraic generators for the fundamental group, we establish the existence of exponential lower bounds for the gaps. On the other hand, we show that the existence of arbitrary small gaps is topologically generic: this is established both for surfaces of constant negative curvature (Theorem 3.1), and for the space of negatively curved metrics (Theorem 4.1). While arbitrary small gaps are topologically generic, it is plausible that the gaps are not too small for almost every metric. One result in this direction is presented in Section 5.

Abstract:In this short note, we provide an alternative proof of a notable theorem by Narasimhan and Ramanan. The theorem states that the moduli space of $S$-equivalence classes of semistable rank $2$ vector bundles over a curve $X$ of genus $2$ with trivial determinant is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^3$. Our proof relies on a criterion by Bauer and Szemberg, which characterizes projective spaces among smooth Fano varieties using Seshadri constants.

Abstract:We provide a probabilistic proof of the fundamental gap estimate for Schrödinger operators in convex domains on the sphere, which extends the probabilistic proof of F. Gong, H. Li, and D. Luo for the Euclidean case. Our results further generalize the results achieved for the Laplacian by S. Seto, L. Wang, and G. Wei, as well as by C. He, G. Wei, and Qi S. Zhang. The essential ingredient in our analysis is the reflection coupling method on Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:We present some computer assisted methods to prove the existence of spectral gaps for the Almost Mathieu operator at critical coupling and give rigorous numerical estimates on their size. As an example we show that the first 8 gaps predicted by the Gap Labelling theorem are open when $\omega=(\sqrt{5}-1)/2$ and 12 of them are open when $\omega=e-2$. A dynamical method based on the constructive conjugation to a hyperbolic cocycle and a spectral method based on the rigorous computation of the eigenvalues of finite-dimensional matrices are presented. We also present some experiments and conjectures on gap size for the associated peridodic problems.
