Abstract:We obtain the pointwise boundary differentiability of strong solutions for elliptic equations with the lower order coefficients, the boundary, and the right-hand side term satisfying a Dini type condition. Furthermore, we establish a pointwise estimate of strong solutions and show that the gradients of the strong solutions are continuous along the boundary if the drift term, the boundary, and the right-hand side term satisfy a uniform Dini type condition on the boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem for a scalar elliptic equation in a bounded Lipschitz domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb R^3$ with a singular drift of the form $b_0= b-\alpha \frac {x'}{|x'|^2}$ where $x'=(x_1,x_2,0)$, $\alpha \in \mathbb R$ is a parameter and $b$ is a divergence free vector field having essentially the same regularity as the potential part of the drift. Such drifts naturally arise in the theory of axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. For $\alpha <0$ the divergence of such drifts is positive which potentially can ruin the uniqueness of solutions. Nevertheless, for $\alpha<0$ we prove existence and Hölder continuity of a unique weak solution which vanishes on the axis $\Gamma:=\{ ~x\in \mathbb R^3:~|x'|=0~\}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the following problems u ± a(x)| ∇ u|^q = b(x)f(u), x ∈Ω, u|_∂Ω = + ∞ , where Ω is a bounded domain with a smooth boundary in ℝ^N (N ≥ 2) , q > 0, a ∈ C^α(Ω̅) is positive in Ω, and b ∈ C^α(Ω̅) is nonnegative in Ω and may be vanishing on the boundary. We assume that f is Γ-varying at ∞, whose variation at ∞ is not regular. Our analysis is based on the sub-supersolution method and Karamata regular variation theory.

Abstract:This paper concerns the regularity of a functional differential equation in the form: u˙(t)=Au(t)+B1u(t−r)+∫−r0a(s)B2u(t+s)ds, t>0, where A is the generator of an analytic semigroup on a Banach space X, and B1,B2 are (γ−A)α-bounded linear operator for 0<α<1. By spectral analysis, it is shown that the associated solution semigroup of this equation is eventually differentiable.

Abstract:This paper provides a detailed analysis of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for linear elliptic equations in divergence form with $L^p$-general drifts, where $p \in (d, \infty)$, and non-negative $L^1$-zero-order terms. Specifically, by transforming the general drifts into weak divergence-free drifts, we establish the existence and uniqueness of a bounded weak solution, showing that the zero-order term does not influence the quantity of the unique weak solution. Additionally, by imposing the $ VMO$ condition and mild differentiability on the diffusion coefficients and assuming an $L^s$-zero-order terms with $s \in (1, \infty)$, we demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution for the corresponding non-divergence type equations. An important feature of this paper is that, due to the weak divergence-free property of the drifts in the transformed equations, the constants appearing in our estimates can be explicitly calculated, which is expected to offer significant applications in error analysis.

Abstract:We prove path-by-path uniqueness of solution to hyperbolic stochastic partial differential equations when the drift coefficient is the difference of two componentwise monotone Borel measurable functions of spatial linear growth. The Yamada-Watanabe principle for SDE driven by Brownian sheet then allows to derive strong uniqueness for such equation and thus extending the results in [Bogso, Dieye and Menoukeu Pamen, Elect. J. Probab., 27:1-26, 2022] and [Nualart and Tindel, Potential Anal., 7(3):661--680, 1997]. Assuming that the drift is globally bounded, we show that the unique strong solution is Malliavin differentiable. The case of spatial linear growth drift coefficient is also studied.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of solution uniqueness for the second order elliptic boundary value problem, by looking at its finite element or finite difference approximations. We derive several equivalent conditions, which are simpler and easier than the boundedness of the entries of the inverse matrix given in Yamamoto et al., [T. Yamamoto, S. Oishi, Q. Fang, Discretization principles for linear two-point boundary value problems, II, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 29 (2008) 213-224]. The numerical experiments are provided to support the analysis made. Strictly speaking, the uniqueness of solution is equivalent to the existence of nonzero eigenvalues in the corresponding eigenvalue problem, and this condition should be checked by solving the corresponding eigenvalue problems. An application of the equivalent conditions is that we may discover the uniqueness simultaneously, while seeking the approximate solutions of elliptic boundary equations. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. On linear elliptic equations with drift terms in critical weak spaces

Abstract:We study the Dirichlet problem for a second order linear elliptic equation in a bounded smooth domain $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n \ge 3$, with the drift $\mathbf{b} $ belonging to the critical weak space $L^{n,\infty}(\Omega )$. We decompose the drift $\mathbf{b} = \mathbf{b}_1 + \mathbf{b}_2$ in which $\text{div} \mathbf{b}_1 \geq 0$ and $\mathbf{b}_2$ is small only in a small scale quasi-norm of $L^{n,\infty}(\Omega )$. Under this new smallness condition, we prove existence, uniqueness, and regularity estimates of weak solutions to the problem and its dual. H\"{o}lder regularity and derivative estimates of weak solutions to the dual problem are also established. As a result, we prove uniqueness of very weak solutions slightly below the threshold. When $\mathbf{b}_2 =0$, our results recover those by Kim and Tsai in [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 52 (2020)]. Due to the new small scale quasi-norm, our results are new even when $\mathbf{b}_1=0$.

Abstract:In this paper we prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions for the elliptic system Δu=u,Δv=vinΩ with nonlinear coupling at the smooth boundary given by ∂u∂ν=Hu,∂v∂ν=Hvon∂Ω, where Ω is a bounded domain of RN with smooth boundary, ∂/∂ν is the outer normal derivative. The proofs are done under suitable assumptions on the Hamiltonian, and based on the local linking theorem and a multiple critical points theorem of the critical point theory.

Abstract:We prove the existence of solutions for some integro-differential systems containing equations with and without the drift terms in the H^2 spaces by virtue of the fixed point technique when the elliptic equations contain second order differential operators with and without the Fredholm property, on the whole real line or on a finite interval with periodic boundary conditions. Let us emphasize that the study of the systems case is more complicated than of the scalar situation and requires to overcome more cumbersome technicalities.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem of a class of nonlinear elliptic equations which includes Monge–Ampère equation, K-Hessian equation and the usual linear elliptic equation. This problem becomes singular near the boundary of the domain. By carefully constructing sub-solutions we obtain the boundary Hölder estimate for the convex solution to the problem when the domain satisfies exterior sphere condition.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with the principal eigenvalue of some linear elliptic operators with drift in two dimensional space. We provide a refined description of the asymptotic behavior for the principal eigenvalue as the drift rate approaches infinity. Under some non-degeneracy assumptions, our results illustrate that these asymptotic behaviors are completely determined by some connected components in the omega-limit set of the system of ordinary differential equations associated with the drift term, which includes stable fixed points, stable limit cycles, hyperbolic saddles connecting homoclinic orbits, and families of closed orbits. Some discussions on degenerate cases are also included.

Abstract:We present a derivation and implementation of asymptotic boundary conditions to be imposed on "artificial" boundaries for nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems on semi-infinite "cylindrical" domains. A general theory developed by the authors in [11] is applied to establish the existence of exact boundary conditions and then to obtain useful approximations to them. The derivation is based on the Laplace transform solution of the linearized problem at infinity. We discuss the incorporation of the asymptotic boundary conditions into a finite-difference scheme and present the results of numerical experiments on the solution of the Bratu problem in a two-dimensional stepped channel. We also touch on certain problems concerning the existence of solutions of this problem on infinite domains and conjecture on the behavior of the critical parameter value with respect to changes in the domain. Some numerical evidence supporting the conjecture is given.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the semilinear elliptic problem Δu=a(x)f(u), u⩾0 in Ω, with the boundary blow-up condition u|∂Ω=+∞, where Ω is a bounded domain in RN (N⩾2), a(x)∈C(Ω) may blow up on ∂Ω and f is assumed to satisfy (f1) and (f2) below which include the sublinear case f(u)=um, m∈(0,1). For the radial case that Ω=B (the unit ball) and a(x) is radial, we show that a solution exists if and only if ∫01(1−r)a(r)dr=+∞. For Ω a general domain, we obtain an optimal nonexistence result. The existence for nonradial solutions is also studied by using sub-supersolution method.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a noncoercive nonlinear elliptic operator with a drift term in an unbounded domain. The singular first-order term grows like |E(x)||∇u|, where E(x) is a vector field belonging to a suitable Morrey-type space. Our operator arises as a stationary equation of diffusion–advection problems. We prove existence, regularity, and uniqueness theorems for a Dirichlet problem. To obtain our main results, we use the weak maximum principle and the same a priori estimates.
