Abstract:This case highlights important patient risk factors that should increase suspicion for ACPO, a rare cause of colonic obstructive symptoms. Our patient's advanced age, recent major surgery, antimotility medications, and hypokalemia increased the risk for development of ACPO. Notably, severe infections or acute illness may also lead to ACPO in the absence of surgery.
