Abstract:Bott proved a strong vanishing theorem for sheaf cohomology on projective space, namely that for , , and L ample. This holds for toric varieties, but not for most other varieties. We classify the smooth Fano threefolds that satisfy Bott vanishing. There are many more than expected.

Abstract:In this paper, we revise the Bott Vanishing on projective toric varieties by giving it an alternative proof with a condition that is compatible with the condition of Kawamata-Viehweg Vanishing. This proof can also be adapted to generalize Bott Vanishing to the setting using mixed Hodge modules. Lastly, we give a counter-example towards the relative Bott Vanishing for birational morphisms.

Abstract:We show that a projective variety with an int-amplified endomorphism of degree invertible in the base field satisfies Bott vanishing. This is a new way to analyze which varieties have nontrivial endomorphisms. In particular, we extend some classification results on varieties admitting endomorphisms (for Fano threefolds of Picard number one and several other cases) to any characteristic. The classification results in characteristic zero are due to Amerik-Rovinsky-Van de Ven, Hwang-Mok, Paranjape-Srinivas, Beauville, and Shao-Zhong. Our method also bounds the degree of morphisms into a given variety. Finally, we relate endomorphisms to global $F$-regularity.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.
Vanishing theorems for Fano threefolds in positive characteristic

Abstract:We prove that Kodaira vanishing holds for an arbitrary smooth Fano threefold in positive characteristic. To this end, we show that it is quasi-F-split when the Picard number or the Fano index is larger than one. We also establish Akizuki-Nakano vanishing for smooth Fano threefolds when the Picard number or the Fano index is larger than one, and therefore they lift to the ring of Witt vectors.

Abstract:We use the liftability of the relative Frobenius morphism of toric varieties and the strong liftability of toric varieties to prove the Bott vanishing theorem, the degeneration of the Hodge to de Rham spectral sequence and the Kawamata–Viehweg vanishing theorem for log pairs on toric varieties in positive characteristic. These results generalize those results of Danilov, Buch–Thomsen–Lauritzen–Mehta, Mustaţǎ and Fujino to the case where concerned Weil divisors are not necessarily torus invariant.

Abstract:We use adiabatic limits to study foliated manifolds. The Bott connection naturally shows up as the adiabatic limit of Levi-Civita connections. As an application, we then construct certain natural elliptic operators associated to the foliation and present a direct geometric proof of a vanshing theorem of Connes[Co], which extends the Lichnerowicz vanishing theorem [L] to foliated manifolds with spin leaves, for what we call almost Riemannian foliations. Several new vanishing theorems are also proved by using our method.

Abstract:Let X be a toric variety. We establish vanishing (and non-vanishing) results for the sheaves , where is a strong log resolution of singularities with reduced exceptional divisor E . These extend the local vanishing theorem for toric varieties in Mustaţă et al. (J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 19(3):801-819, 2020). Our consideration of these sheaves is motivated by the notion of k -rational singularities introduced by Friedman and Laza (Higher Du Bois and higher rational singularities, 2001). In particular, our results lead to criteria for toric varieties to have k -rational singularities, as defined in Shen et al. (On k-Du Bois and k-rational singularities, 2023).

Abstract:We use a Koszul-type resolution to prove a weak version of Bott's vanishing theorem for smooth hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^n$ and use this result to prove a vanishing theorem for Hodge ideals associated with an effective Cartier divisor on a hypersurface. This extends an earlier result of Mustata and Popa.

Abstract:Given a bounded constructible complex of sheaves on a complex Abelian variety, we prove an equality relating the cohomology jump loci of and its singular support. As an application, we identify two subsets of the set of holomorphic 1-forms with zeros on a complex smooth projective irregular variety X ; one from Green-Lazarsfeld's cohomology jump loci and one from the Kashiwara's estimates for singular supports. This result is related to Kotschick's conjecture about the equivalence between the existence of nowhere vanishing global holomorphic 1-forms and the existence of a fibre bundle structure over the circle. Our results give a conjecturally equivalent formulation using singular support, which is equivalent to a criterion involving cohomology jump loci proposed by Schreieder. As another application, we reprove a recent result proved by Schreieder and Yang; namely if X has simple Albanese variety and admits a fibre bundle structure over the circle, then the Albanese morphism cohomologically behaves like a smooth morphism with respect to integer coefficients. In a related direction, we address the question whether the set of 1-forms that vanish somewhere is a finite union of linear subspaces of . We show that this is indeed the case for forms admitting zero locus of codimension 1.

Torsion Vanishing for Some Shimura Varieties

Abstract:We generalize the torsion vanishing results of Caraiani-Scholze and Koshikawa. Our results apply to the cohomology of general Shimura varieties $(\mathbf{G},X)$ of PEL type $A$ or $C$, localized at a suitable maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ in the spherical Hecke algebra at primes $p$ such that $\mathbf{G}_{\mathbb{Q}_{p}}$ is a group for which we know the Fargues-Scholze local Langlands correspondence is the semi-simplification of a suitably nice local Langlands correspondence. This is accomplished by combining Koshikawa's technique, the theory of geometric Eisenstein series over the Fargues-Fontaine curve, the work of Santos describing the structure of the fibers of the minimally and toroidally compactified Hodge-Tate period morphism for general PEL type Shimura varieties of type $A$ or $C$, and ideas developed by Zhang on comparing Hecke correspondences on the moduli stack of $G$-bundles with the cohomology of Shimura varieties. In the process, we also establish a description of the generic part of the cohomology that bears resemblance to the work of Xiao-Zhu. Moreover, we also construct a filtration on the compactly supported cohomology that differs from Manotovan's filtration in the case that the Shimura variety is non-compact, allowing us to circumvent some of the circumlocutions taken by Cariani-Scholze. Our method showcases a very general strategy for proving such torsion vanishing results, and should bear even more fruit once the inputs are generalized. Motivated by this, we formulate an even more general torsion vanishing conjecture.

A Generalized vanishing theorem for Blow-ups of Quasi-smooth Stacks

Abstract:We prove a generalized vanishing theorem for certain quasi-coherent sheaves along the derived blow-ups of quasi-smooth derived Artin stacks. We give four applications of the generalized vanishing theorem: we prove a $K$-theoretic version of the generalized vanishing theorem which verified a conjecture of the author and give a new proof of the $K$-theoretic virtual localization theorem for quasi-smooth derived schemes through the intrinsic blow-up theory of Kiem-Li-Savvas; we prove a desingularization theorem for quasi-smooth derived schemes and give an approximation formula for the virtual fundamental classes; we give a resolution of the diagonal along the projection map of blow-ups of smooth varieties, which strengthens the semi-orthogonal decomposition theorem of Orlov; we illustrate the relation between the generalized vanishing theorem and weak categorifications of quantum loop and toroidal algebra actions on the derived category of Nakajima quiver varieties. We also propose several conjectures related to birational geometry and the $L_{\infty}$-algebroid of Calaque-Căldăraru-Tu.

On explicit bounds of Fano threefolds

Abstract:In this paper, we study the explicit geometry of threefolds, in particular, Fano varieties. We find an explicitly computable positive integer $N$, such that all but a bounded family of Fano threefolds have $N$-complements. This result has many applications on finding explicit bounds of algebraic invariants for threefolds. We provide explicit lower bounds for the first gap of the $\mathbb R$-complementary thresholds for threefolds, the first gap of the global lc thresholds, the smallest minimal log discrepancy of exceptional threefolds, and the volume of log threefolds with reduced boundary and ample log canonical divisor. We also provide an explicit upper bound of the anti-canonical volume of exceptional threefolds. While the bounds in this paper may not and are not expected to be optimal, they are the first explicit bounds of these invariants in dimension three.

Abstract:Consider a root system $R$ and the corresponding toric variety $V_R$ whose fan is the Weyl fan and whose lattice of characters is given by the root lattice for $R$. We prove the vanishing of the higher cohomology groups for certain line bundles on $V_R$ by proving a purely combinatorial result for root systems. These results are related to a converse to Mazur's Inequality for (simply-connected) split reductive groups.

Abstract:We study codimension one (transversally oriented) foliations $\fa$ on oriented closed manifolds $M$ having non-empty compact singular set $\sing(\fa)$ which is locally defined by Bott-Morse functions. We prove that if the transverse type of $\fa$ at each singular point is a center and $\fa$ has a compact leaf with finite fundamental group or a component of $\sing(\fa)$ has codimension $\ge 3$ and finite fundamental group, then all leaves of $\fa$ are compact and diffeomorphic, $\sing(\fa)$ consists of two connected components, and there is a Bott-Morse function $f:M \to [0,1]$ such that $f\colon M \setminus \sing(\fa) \to (0,1)$ is a fiber bundle defining $\fa$ and $\sing(\fa) = f^{-1}(\{0,1\})$. This yields to a topological description of the type of leaves that appear in these foliations, and also the type of manifolds admiting such foliations. These results unify, and generalize, well known results for cohomogeneity one isometric actions and a theorem of Reeb for foliations with Morse singularities of center type. In this case each leaf of $\fa$ is a sphere fiber bundle over each component of $\sing(\fa)$.
