Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical structure of multiwalled carbon nanotubes/reduced graphene oxide (MWNTs/RGO) offers high flexibility, high electrical conductivity, and large surface area for storing large amounts of electrical charge. Herein, we report the nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon layer (N-GC) integrated MWNTs/RGO (N-GC@MWNTs/RGO) prepared through interfacial polymerization using polydopamine as a versatile electrode for fabric/yarn-based supercapacitors. The interfacial N-GC layers effectively integrated MWNTs and RGO, preventing their pre-aggregation and restacking of MWNTs/RGO, resulting in abundant active surface sites and enhanced electrical conductivity. Given these merits, symmetric supercapacitors composed of N-GC@MWNTs/RGO and polyvinyl alcohol/sulfuric acid gel electrolyte exhibited impressive specific capacitance (217.4 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1), high rate performance (62.5 F g−1 at 20 A g−1), and prolonged cycling with the capacitance retention of 82 % after 10,000 cycles. Furthermore, the N-GC@MWNTs/RGO-based supercapacitors showed excellent capacitance retention of 87 % after 3000 cycles under the bending radius of 3.0 mm and high mechanical stability under stretching condition of 100 %. The N-GC@MWNTs/RGO electrode demonstrated several practical applications, which play pivotal role in wearable electronics.
