Abstract:Groups with the falsification by fellow traveler property are known to have solvable word problem, but they are not known to be automatic or to have finite convergent rewriting systems. In this paper, we show that these groups admit a generalization of the two properties; namely, they are geodesically autostackable. As a key part of proving this, we show that a wider class of groups, namely groups with a weight non-increasing synchronously regular convergent prefix-rewriting system, have a bounded regular convergent prefix-rewriting system.

Abstract:We introduce a theory of "patterns" in order to study geodesics in a certain class of group presentations. Using patterns we show that there does not exist a geodesic automatic structure for certain group presentations, and that certain group presentations are almost convex.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group with an involution σ on it. Let H be an open subgroup of Gσ with a character χ on it. Associated to a “theta stable”, “σ-split” parabolic subalgebra, and using the Zuckerman functor, we construct representations of G together with χ-equivariant linear functionals on them. We apply this construction to prove a non-vanishing hypothesis of H. Grobner and A. Raghuram in the study of algebraicity of critical L-values.

Abstract:We characterise hyperbolic groups in terms of quasigeodesics in the Cayley graph forming regular languages. We also obtain a quantitative characterisation of hyperbolicity of geodesic metric spaces by the non-existence of certain local (3,0)-quasigeodesic loops. As an application we make progress towards a question of Shapiro regarding groups admitting a uniquely geodesic Cayley graph.

Abstract:We study the relation between two special classes of Riemannian Lie groups $G$ with a left-invariant metric $g$: The Einstein Lie groups, defined by the condition $\operatorname{Ric}_g=cg$, and the geodesic orbit Lie groups, defined by the property that any geodesic is the integral curve of a Killing vector field. The main results imply that extensive classes of compact simple Einstein Lie groups $(G,g)$ are not geodesic orbit manifolds, thus providing large-scale answers to a relevant question of Y. Nikonorov. Our approach involves studying and characterizing the $G\times K$-invariant geodesic orbit metrics on Lie groups $G$ for a wide class of subgroups $K$ that we call (weakly) regular. By-products of our work are structural and characterization results that are of independent interest for the classification problem of geodesic orbit manifolds.

Abstract:We consider several algorithmic problems concerning geodesics in finitely generated groups. We show that the three geodesic problems considered by Miasnikov et al [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0807.1032" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0807.1032">arXiv:0807.1032</a>] are polynomial-time reducible to each other. We study two new geodesic problems which arise in a previous paper of the authors and Fusy [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0902.0202" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0902.0202">arXiv:0902.0202</a>] .

Abstract:We propose a criterion for preserving the regularity of a formal language representation when passing from groups to subgroups. We use this criterion to show that the regularity of a positive cone language in a left-orderable group passes to its finite index subgroups, and to show that there exists no left order on a finitely generated acylindrically hyperbolic group such that the corresponding positive cone is represented by a quasi-geodesic regular language. We also answer one of Navas' questions by giving an example of an infinite family of groups which admit a positive cone that is generated by exactly $k$ generators, for every $k \geq 3$. As a special case of our construction, we obtain a finitely generated positive cone for $F_2 \times \mathbb{Z}$.

Abstract:Let $X = G/H$ be an affine homogeneous spherical variety with abelian regular centralizer and no type N roots. In this paper, we formulate a relative geometric Langlands conjecture in the Dolbeault setting for $M = T^*X$. More concretely, we conjecture a Fourier-Mukai duality between the Dolbeault period sheaf and a sheaf whose construction closely resembles the Dirac-Higgs bundle of a polarization of the dual symplectic representation of Ben-Zvi, Sakellaridis, and Venkatesh. These conjectures can be seen as a generalization of Hitchin's conjectural duality of branes for symmetric spaces. We verify these conjectures in several cases, including the Friedberg-Jacquet case $X = GL_{2n}/GL_n\times GL_n$, the Jacquet-Ichino case $X = PGL_2^3/PGL_2$, the Rankin-Selberg case $X = GL_n\times GL_{n+1}/GL_n$, and the Gross-Prasad case $X = SO_n\times SO_{n+1}/SO_n$. Our main tool is the theory of the regular quotient, which was described in the context of symmetric spaces in [HM24].

Abstract:A connected graph is called \emph{geodetic} if there is a unique geodesic between each pair of vertices. In this paper we prove that if a finitely generated group admits a Cayley graph which is geodetic, then the group must be virtually free. Before now, it was open whether finitely generated and geodetic implied hyperbolic. In fact we prove something more general: if a quasi-transitive locally finite connected undirected graph is geodetic then it is quasi-isometric to a tree. Our main tool is to define a \emph{boundary} of a graph and understand how the local behaviour influences it when the graph is geodetic. Our results unify, and represent significant progress on, research initiated by Ore, Shapiro, and Madlener and Otto.

Conjugacy geodesics and growth in dihedral Artin groups

Abstract:In this paper we describe conjugacy geodesic representatives in any dihedral Artin group $G(m)$, $m\geq 3$, which we then use to calculate asymptotics for the conjugacy growth of $G(m)$, and show that the conjugacy growth series of $G(m)$ with respect to the `free product' generating set $\{x, y\}$ is transcendental. We prove two additional properties of $G(m)$ that connect to conjugacy, namely that the permutation conjugator length function is constant, and that the falsification by fellow traveler property (FFTP) holds with respect to $\{x, y\}$. These imply that the language of all conjugacy geodesics in $G(m)$ with respect to $\{x, y\}$ is regular.

Abstract:We introduce an extension of the fellow traveler property which allows fellow travelers to be at distance bounded from above by a function $f(n)$ growing slower than any linear function. We study normal forms satisfying this extended fellow traveler property and certain geometric constraints that naturally generalize two fundamental properties of an automatic normal form - the regularity of its language and the bounded length difference property. We show examples of such normal forms and prove some non-existence theorems.

Abstract:In this work, we give a complete description of the language of geodesic words for a central extension of the fundamental group of the Klein Bottle with respect to the standard two-element generating set. Besides, we prove that there are no dead ends in the group. Finally, we give a new sufficient condition for the absence of dead ends.

We further explore the Arens regularity of when the underlying group G is discrete. In the running, we also show that is finite dimensional if and only if G is finite. Further, for amenable groups, we show that is reflexive if and only if G is finite, under the assumption that the associated Young function satisfies the MA condition.

Abstract:We define and study the regularity of distance maps on geodesically complete spaces with curvature bounded above. We prove that such a regular map is locally a Hurewicz fibration. This regularity can be regarded as a dual concept of Perelman's regularity in the geometry of Alexandrov spaces with curvature bounded below. As a corollary we obtain a sphere theorem for geodesically complete CAT(1) spaces.

Abstract:We provide an alternative definition for the familiar concept of regular singularity for meromorphic connections. Our new formulation does not use derived categories, and it also avoids the necessity of finding a special good filtration as in the formulation due to Kashiwara--Kawai. Moreover, our formulation provides an explicit algorithm to decide the regular singularity of a meromorphic connection. An important intermediary result, interesting in its own right, is that taking associated graded modules with respect to (not necessarily canonical) $V$-filtrations commutes with non-characteristic restriction. This allows us to reduce the proof of the equivalence of our formulation with the classical concept to the one-dimensional case. In that situation, we extend the well-known one-dimensional Fuchs criterion for ideals in the Weyl algebra to arbitrary holonomic modules over the Weyl algebra equipped with an arbitrary $(-1,1)$-filtration.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple linear algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\geq 0$ and let $\phi$ be a $p$-restricted irreducible representation of $G$. Let $T$ be a maximal torus of $G$ and $s\in T$. We say that $s$ is strongly regular if $\alpha(s)\ne\beta(s)$ for all distinct $T$-roots $\alpha$ and $\beta$ of $G$. Our main result states that if all but one of the eigenvalues of $\phi(s)$ are of multiplicity 1 then, with a few specified exceptions, $s$ is strongly regular. This can be viewed as an extension of our earlier result saying that under the same hypotheses, $s$ must be regular and all non-zero weights of $\phi$ are of multiplicity 1.

Abstract:We show that discrete stationary random subgroups of isometry groups of Gromov hyperbolic spaces have full limit sets as well as critical exponents bounded from below. This information is used to answer a question of Gelander and show that a rank one locally symmetric space for which the bottom of the spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami operator is the same as that of its universal cover has unbounded injectivity radius.

Abstract:We establish a geometric criterion for local microlocal holonomies to be globally regular on the moduli space of Lagrangian fillings. This local-to-global regularity result holds for arbitrary Legendrian links and it is a key input for the study of cluster structures on such moduli spaces. Specifically, we construct regular functions on derived moduli stacks of sheaves with Legendrian microsupport by studying the Hochschild homology of the associated dg-categories via relative Lagrangian skeleta. In this construction, a key geometric result is that local microlocal merodromies along positive relative cycles in Lagrangian fillings yield global Hochschild 0-cycles for these dg-categories.
