Abstract: We find explicit bases for naturally defined lattices over a ring of algebraic integers in the SO(3) TQFT-modules of surfaces at roots of unity of odd prime order. Some applications relating quantum invariants to classical 3-manifold topology are given.

Abstract:We prove that the representations numbers of a ternary definite integral quadratic form defined over F_q[t], where F_q is a finite field of odd characteristic, determine its integral equivalence class when q is large enough with respect to its successive minima. Equivalently, such a quadratic form is determined up to integral isometry by its theta series.

Quantum dilogarithms over local fields and invariants of 3-manifolds

Abstract:To each local field (including the real or complex numbers) we associate a quantum dilogarithm and show that it satisfies a pentagon identity and some symmetries. Using an angled version of these quantum dilogarithms, we construct three generalized TQFTs in 2+1 dimensions, one given by a face state-integral and two given by edge state-integrals. Their partition functions rise to distributional invariants of 3-manifolds with torus boundary, conjecturally related to point counting of the $A$-polynomial curve. The partition function of one of these face generalized TQFTs for the case of the real numbers can be expressed either as a multidimensional Barnes-Mellin integral or as a period on a curve which is conjecturally the $A$-polynomial curve.

Abstract:A 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory (TQFT) is a symmetric monoidal functor from the category of 3-cobordisms to the category of vector spaces. Such TQFTs provide in particular numerical invariants of closed 3-manifolds such as the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants and representations of the mapping class group of closed surfaces. In 1994, using a modular category, Turaev explains how to construct a TQFT. In this article, we describe a generalization of this construction starting from a ribbon category $\mathcal{C}$ with coend. We present a cobordism by a special kind of tangle and we associate to the latter a morphism defined between tensorial products of the coend as described by Lyubashenko in 1994. Composing with an \emph{admissible} color and using extension of Kirby calculus on 3-cobordisms, this morphism gives rise to an \emph{internal} TQFT which takes values in the symmetric monoidal subcategory of transparent objects of $\mathcal{C}$. When the category $\mathcal{C}$ is modular, this subcategory is equivalent to the category of vector spaces. When the category $\mathcal{C}$ is premodular and normalizable with invertible dimension, our TQFT is a lift of Turaev's one associated to the modularization of $\mathcal{C}$.

Abstract:The standard generators of tridiagonal algebras, recently introduced by Terwilliger, are shown to generate a new (in)finite family of mutually commuting operators which extends the Dolan-Grady construction. The involution property relies on the tridiagonal algebraic structure associated with a deformation parameter $q$. Representations are shown to be generated from a class of quadratic algebras, namely the reflection equations. The spectral problem is briefly discussed. Finally, related massive quantum integrable models are shown to be superintegrable.

3d TQFTs and 3-manifold invariants

Abstract:This is an invited contribution to the 2nd edition of the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics. We give an overview of 3-dimensional topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) and the corresponding quantum invariants of 3-manifolds. We recall the main algebraic concepts and constructions, such as modular and spherical fusion categories, the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev and Turaev-Viro theories, and the relation between these two TQFTs. We also briefly discuss generalizations of these constructions by providing a (non-exhaustive) review of some recent works on 3-dimensional extended TQFTs, defect TQFTs, homotopy QFTs, and non-semisimple TQFTs.

Functional Integral Construction of Topological Quantum Field Theory

Abstract:We introduce regular stratified piecewise linear manifolds to describe lattices and investigate the lattice model approach to topological quantum field theory in all dimensions. We introduce the unitary $n+1$ alterfold TQFT and construct it from a linear functional on an $n$-dimensional lattice model on an $n$-sphere satisfying three conditions: reflection positivity, homeomorphic invariance and complete finiteness. A unitary spherical $n$-category is mathematically defined and emerges as the local quantum symmetry of the lattice model. The alterfold construction unifies various constructions of $n+1$ TQFT from $n$-dimensional lattice models and $n$-categories. In particular, we construct a non-invertible unitary 3+1 alterfold TQFT from a linear functional and derive its local quantum symmetry as a unitary spherical 3-category of Ising type with explicit 20j-symbols, so that the scalar invariant of 2-knots in piecewise linear 4-manifolds could be computed explicitly.

Integral structures in smooth $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$-representations and zeta integrals

Abstract:For an odd prime $p$ and an unramified maximal torus $H $ of $\mathrm{GL}_{2/\mathbf{Q}_p}$, inspired by work of Loeffler-Skinner-Zerbes, we construct natural $H(\mathbf{Q}_p)$-stable lattices in spaces of functions on $\left(\mathrm{GL}_2\times H\right)(\mathbf{Q}_p)$ and positively answer a conjecture of Loeffler. These local lattices give rise to canonical Hecke operators in local spherical Hecke algebras, that enjoy certain integrality properties away from $p$, with respect to equivariant maps into any smooth $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$-representation. In the process, we also obtain integral results on $H$-invariant periods for local unramified Whittaker type representations, and global automorphic representations attached to cuspidal Hecke eigenforms.

Integral Springer Theorem for Quadratic Lattices under Base Change of Odd Degree

Abstract:A quadratic lattice $M$ over a Dedekind domain $R$ with fraction field $F$ is defined to be a finitely generated torsion-free $R$-module equipped with a non-degenerate quadratic form on the $F$-vector space $F\otimes_{R}M$. Assuming that $F\otimes_{R}M$ is isotropic of dimension $\geq 3$ and that $2$ is invertible in $R$, we prove that a quadratic lattice $N$ can be embedded into a quadratic lattice $M$ over $R$ if and only if $S\otimes_{R}N$ can be embedded into $S\otimes_{R}M$ over $S$, where $S$ is the integral closure of $R$ in a finite extension of odd degree of $F$. As a key step in the proof, we establish several versions of the norm principle for integral spinor norms, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:We introduce a coarse perspective on relations of the $SU(2)$-Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFT, the Weil-Petersson geometry of the Teichmüller space, and volumes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Using data from the asymptotic expansions of the curve operators in the skein theoretic version of the $SU(2)$-TQFT, we define the quantum intersection number between pants decompositions of a closed surface. We show that the quantum intersection number admits two sided bounds in terms of the geometric intersection number and we use it to obtain a metric on the pants graph of surfaces. Using work of Brock we show that the pants graph equipped with this metric is quasi-isometric to the Teichmüller space with the Weil-Petersson metric and that the translation length of our metric provides two sided linear bounds on the volume of hyperbolic fibered manifolds. We briefly discuss how these relations are interpeted from the view point of $SU(2)$-character varieties of 3-manifolds. We also obtain a characterization of pseudo-Anosov mapping classes in terms of asymptotics of the quantum intersection number under iteration in the mapping class group and relate these asymptotics with stretch factors. We also discuss how these results fit with a conjecture of Andersen, Masbaum and Ueno about quantum representations of mapping class groups.

Abstract:We construct a certain `cobordism category' ${\cal D}$ whose morphisms are suitably decorated cobordism classes between similarly decorated closed oriented 1-manifolds, and show that there is essentially a bijection between (1+1-dimensional) unitary topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) defined on ${\cal D}$, on the one hand, and Jones' subfactor planar algebras, on the other.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak g$ be a complex simple Lie algebra and let $U_{\zeta}({\mathfrak g})$ be the corresponding Lusztig ${\mathbb Z}[q,q^{-1}]$-form of the quantized enveloping algebra specialized to an $\ell$th root of unity. Moreover, let $\mod(U_{\zeta}({\mathfrak g}))$ be the braided monoidal category of finite-dimensional modules for $U_{\zeta}({\mathfrak g})$. In this paper we classify the thick tensor ideals of $\mod(U_{\zeta}({\mathfrak g}))$ and compute the prime spectrum of the stable module category associated to $\text{mod}(U_{\zeta}({\mathfrak g}))$ as defined by Balmer.

Abstract:We develop a $\mathtt{q}$-analogue of the theory of conjugation equivariant $\mathcal D$-modules on a complex reductive group $G$. In particular, we define quantum Hotta-Kashiwara modules and compute their endomorphism algebras. We use the Schur-Weyl functor of the second author, and develop tools from the corresponding double affine Hecke algebra to study this category in the cases $G=GL_N$ and $SL_N$. Our results also have an interpretation in skein theory (explored further in a sequel paper), namely a computation of the $GL_N$ and $SL_N$-skein algebra of the 2-torus.

Abstract:We show that many tame modules of the quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}_2$ algebra can be explicitly constructed in a purely combinatorial way using the theory of $q$-characters. The examples include families of evaluation modules obtained from analytic continuation and automorphism twists of Verma modules of the quantum affine $\mathfrak{gl}_2$ algebra. The combinatorial bases in the modules are labeled by colored plane partitions with various properties.

Quon Language: Surface Algebras and Fourier Duality

Abstract:Quon language is a 3D picture language that we can apply to simulate mathematical concepts. We introduce the surface algebras as an extension of the notion of planar algebras to higher genus surface. We prove that there is a unique one-parameter extension. The 2D defects on the surfaces are quons, and surface tangles are transformations. We use quon language to simulate graphic states that appear in quantum information, and to simulate interesting quantities in modular tensor categories. This simulation relates the pictorial Fourier duality of surface tangles and the algebraic Fourier duality induced by the S matrix of the modular tensor category. The pictorial Fourier duality also coincides with the graphic duality on the sphere. For each pair of dual graphs, we obtain an algebraic identity related to the S matrix. These identities include well-known ones, such as the Verlinde formula; partially known ones, such as the 6j-symbol self-duality; and completely new ones.

Abstract:We categorify the highest weight integrable representations and their tensor products of a symmetric quantum Kac-Moody algebra. As byproducts, we obtain a geometric realization of Lusztig's canonical bases of these representations as well as a new positivity result. The main ingredient in the underlying geometric construction is a class of micro-local perverse sheaves on quiver varieties.

Abstract:For a pb surface $\Sigma$, two positive integers $m,n$ with $m\mid n$, and two invertible elements $v,\epsilon$ in a commutative domain $R$ with $\epsilon^{2m} = 1$, we construct an $R$-linear isomorphism between the stated $SL_n$-skein algebras $S_n(\Sigma,v)$ and $S_n(\Sigma,\epsilon v)$, which restricts to an algebraic ismorphism between subalgebras of $S_n(\Sigma,v)$ and $S_n(\Sigma,\epsilon v)$. Using this linear isomorphism, we prove the splitting map $\Theta_{c}:S_n(\Sigma,v)\rightarrow S_n(\text{Cut}_c(\Sigma),v)$ for the pb surface $\Sigma$ and the ideal arc $c$ is injective when $v^{2m} = 1$ and $m\mid n$.

Binomial ideals in quantum tori and quantum affine spaces

Abstract:The article targets binomial ideals in quantum tori and quantum affine spaces. First, noncommutative analogs of known results for commutative (Laurent) polynomial rings are obtained, including the following: Under the assumption of an algebraically closed base field, it is proved that primitive ideals are binomial, as are radicals of binomial ideals and prime ideals minimal over binomial ideals. In the case of a quantum torus $\mathcal{T}_{\bf{q}}$, the results are strongest: In this situation, the binomial ideals are parametrized by characters on sublattices of the free abelian group whose group algebra is the center of $\mathcal{T}_{\bf{q}}$; the sublattice-character pairs corresponding to primitive ideals as well as to radicals and minimal primes of binomial ideals are determined. As for occurrences of binomial ideals in quantum algebras: It is shown that cocycle-twisted group algebras of finitely generated abelian groups are quotients of quantum tori modulo binomial ideals. Another appearance is as follows: Cocycle-twisted semigroup algebras of finitely generated commutative monoids, as well as quantum affine toric varieties, are quotients of quantum affine spaces modulo certain types of binomial ideals.

Abstract:We construct an action of 3-cobordisms on the finite dimensional Schrödinger representations of the Heisenberg group by Lagrangian correspondences. In addition, we review the construction of the abelian Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) associated with a $q$-deformation of $U(1)$ for any root of unity $q$. We prove that for3-cobor\-disms compatible with Lagrangian correspondences, there is a normalization of the associated Schrödinger bimodule action that reproduces the abelian TQFT. The full abelian TQFT provides a projective representation of the mapping class group $\mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma)$ on the Schrödinger representation,which is linearizable at odd root of 1. Motivated by homology of surface configurations with Schrödinger representation as local coefficients, we define another projective action of $\mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma)$ on Schrödinger representations. We show that the latter is not linearizable by identifying the associated 2-cocycle.
