Abstract:This study explores the interaction between non-extensive entropic FLRW cosmology and the power-law inflationary model, with a focus on the overlap between the scalar spectral index `$n_s$' and the tensor-to-scalar ratio `$r$'. Based on a conjecture that non-extensive entropy alters the energy-momentum content of the cosmic fluid, the analysis examines how these overlaps shift with different model parameters and compares the findings to those from Bekenstein-Hawking (BH) entropic cosmology. The study highlights the impact of Tsallis, Rényi, and Sharma-Mittal entropies, uncovering a significant correlation between `$n_s$' and `$r$' that suggests a deeper connection in power-law inflationary dynamics. The results demonstrate that non-extensive entropies not only enable viable inflation with a graceful exit but also address limitations inherent in the standard BH entropic framework, emphasizing the importance of precise parameter estimation. Specifically, Tsallis entropy allows for power-law inflation with $n = 1$ to $n = 2$ in alignment with Planck 2018 data. Moreover, the $\alpha$ parameter in Rényi and Sharma-Mittal entropy models must be extremely small ($\alpha \leq 10^{-8}$ in Planck mass units) to achieve successful power-law inflation with an e-folding number around 55-65, suggesting a unified thermodynamic perspective in cosmological studies.

Abstract:During inflationary preheating, the energy stored in the inflaton field is rapidly converted into excitations of other entropy fields. This stage is characterized by exponential particle production due to parametric resonance and is notoriously difficult to analyze using analytic methods. We develop a detailed numerical simulation to investigate inflationary preheating when the potential of the inflaton is a power-law function with arbitrary power index. To achieve a successful graceful exit from a primordial inflationary phase to a smooth, oscillatory phase during preheating, we assume the inflaton potential reduces to a quadratic function in the infrared regime, which may be regarded as a mass term at low energy scales. With this simplification, our numerical method may be applied to unconventional chaotic inflation models. To demonstrate its validity, we numerically analyze the preheating stage of axion-monodromy inflation which is inspired by string theory. By performing perturbation analyses, our result shows that the power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbation can be dominated by fluctuations of entropy field rather than those of inflaton, which can be regarded as a particular realization of the curvaton mechanism through a preheating process.

Abstract:Massive fields in the primordial Universe function as standard clocks and imprint clock signals in the density perturbations that directly record the scale factor of the primordial Universe as a function of time, a(t). A measurement of such signals would identify the specific scenario of the primordial Universe in a model-independent fashion. In this Letter, we introduce a new mechanism through which quantum fluctuations of massive fields function as standard clocks. The clock signals appear as scale-dependent oscillatory signals in the power spectrum of alternative scenarios to inflation.

Abstract:Recent fits of cosmological parameters by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) measurement favor a primordial scalar spectrum with varying index. This result, if stands, could severely constrain inflation model buildings. Most extant slow-roll inflation models allow for only a tiny amount of scale variations in the spectrum. We propose in this paper an extra-dimensional inflation model which is natural theoretically and can generate the required variations of the spectral index as implied by the WMAP for suitable choices of parameters. Abstract:In the "natural inflation" model, the inflaton potential is periodic. We show that Planck scale physics may induce corrections to the inflaton potential, which is also periodic with a greater frequency. Such high frequency corrections produce oscillating features in the primordial fluctuation power spectrum, which are not entirely excluded by the current observations and may be detectable in high precision data of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and large scale structure (LSS) observations.

Abstract:We develop a nonperturbative method through the Hartree factorization to examine the quantum fluctuation effects on the single-field inflationary models in a spatially flat FRW cosmological space-time. Apart from the background field equation as well as the Friedmann equation with the corrections of quantum field fluctuations, the modified Mukhanov-Sasaki equations for the mode functions of the quantum scalar field are also derived by introducing the nonzero Δ B term. We consider the Universe undergoing the slow roll (SR)-ultra slow roll (USR) -slow roll (SR) inflation where in particular the presence of the USR inflation triggers the huge growth of Δ B that in turn gives the boost effects to the curvature perturbations for the modes that leave horizon in the early times of the inflation. However, the cosmic friction term in the mode equation given by the Hubble parameter presumably prohibits the boost effects. Here we propose two representative models to illustrate these two competing terms.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a model of inflationary cosmology with inflation preceded by a bounce and study its primordial curvature perturbations. Our model gives rise to a primordial power spectrum with a feature of oscillation on large scales compared with the nearly scale-invariant spectrum generated by the traditional slow-rolling inflation model. This effect changes the cosmic microwave background temperature power spectrum and the large scale structure matter power spectrum. Further, with a detailed simulation we will show that in some detailed models this signal might be detectable in forthcoming observations, such as PLANCK and LAMOST.

Abstract:The cosmological observations of cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure indicate that our universe has a nearly scaling invariant power spectrum of the primordial perturbation. However, the exact origin for this primordial spectrum is still unclear. Here, we propose the Weyl scaling invariant R2+R3 gravity that gives rise to inflation that is responsible for the primordial perturbation in the early universe. We develop both analytic and numerical treatments on inflationary observables, and find this model gives a distinctive scalar potential that can support two different patterns of inflation. The first one is similar to that occurs in the pure R2 model, but with a wide range of tensor-to-scalar ratio r from O(10−4) to O(10−2) . The other one is a new situation with not only slow-roll inflation but also a short stage of oscillation-induced accelerating expansion. Abstract:We investigate the spectrum of cosmological perturbations in a bounce cosmos modeled by a scalar field coupled to the string tachyon field (CSTB cosmos). By explicit computation of its primordial spectral index we show the power spectrum of curvature perturbations, generated during the tachyon matter dominated contraction phase, to be nearly scale invariant. We propose a unified space of parameters for a systematic study of inflationary/bouncing cosmologies. We find that CSTB cosmos is dual--in Wands's sense--to the slow-roll inflation model as can be easily seen from this unified parameter space. Guaranteed by the dynamical attractor behavior of CSTB Cosmos, this scale invariance is free of the fine-tuning problem, in contrast to the slow-roll inflation model.

Abstract:We investigate the constant-roll inflation with non-minimally kinetic coupling to the Einstein tensor. With the slow-roll parameter being a constant, we calculate the power spectra for scalar and tensor perturbations, and derive the expressions for the scalar spectral tilt , the tensor spectral tilt , and the tensor-to-scalar ratio . We find that the expressions for are different with different ordering of taking the derivative of the scalar power spectrum with respect to the scale and the horizon crossing condition in the constant-roll inflation, the consistency relation does not hold if is not small, and the duality of the tensor-to-scalar ratio between the slow-roll inflation and ultra-slow-roll inflation does not exist in inflationary models with non-minimally derivative coupling. The result offers a fresh perspective on the understanding of inflationary models with non-minimally derivative coupling and is helpful for the production of scalar induced gravitational waves in the framework of ultra-slow-roll inflation with non-minimally derivative coupling.

Constraints on polynomial inflation under power-law perturbations

Abstract:We investigate perturbations in power-law monomial potentials within inflationary models driven by a single scalar field. By introducing a second term to the original potential, we study how this perturbation influences the slow-roll parameters and analyze the consequent changes in the spectral index, $n_s$, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r$, treating the additional term as a correction to the monomial case. Comparing our numerical results with current cosmological data from the Planck satellite observations on $n_s$, $r$, and the clustering parameter, $\sigma_8$, we place significant constraints on the free parameter of our class of inflationary potentials. We found that the perturbative consistency method we analyze could be an interesting test to explore for more complex inflationary models, looking for features that better match the data that might highlight fundamental physics implications.

Cosmological Correlators Through the Looking Glass: Reality, Parity, and Factorisation

Abstract:We consider the evolution of quantum fields during inflation, and show that the total-energy singularities appearing in the perturbative expansion of the late-time Wavefunction of the Universe are purely real when the external states are massless scalars and massless gravitons. Our proof relies on the tree-level approximation, Bunch-Davies initial conditions, and exact scale invariance (IR-convergence), but without any assumptions on invariance under de Sitter boosts. We consider all $n$-point functions and allow for the exchange of additional states of any mass and integer spin. Our proof makes use of a decomposition of the inflationary bulk-bulk propagator of massive spinning fields which preserves UV-convergence and ensures that the time-ordered contributions are purely real after we rotate to Euclidean time. We use this reality property to show that the maximally-connected parts of wavefunction coefficients, from which total-energy singularities originate, are purely real. In a theory where all states are in the complementary series, this reality extends to the full wavefunction coefficient. We then use our reality theorem to show that parity-odd correlators (correlators that are mirror asymmetric) are factorised and do not diverge when the total-energy is conserved. We pay special attention to the parity-odd four-point function (trispectrum) of inflationary curvature perturbations and use our reality/factorisation theorems to show that this observable is factorised into a product of cubic diagrams thereby enabling us to derive exact shapes. We present examples of couplings between the inflaton and massive spin-1 and spin-2 fields, with the parity-violation in the trispectrum driven by Chern-Simons corrections to the spinning field two-point function, or from parity-violating cubic interactions which we build within the Effective Field Theory of Inflation.

Inflation with vector fields revisited: heavy entropy perturbations and primordial black holes

Abstract:We revisit inflation coupled with vector fields employing kinetic coupling in the comoving gauge. It is known that there is a cumulative effect $IN^2$ on the curvature power spectrum. For a large number of e-foldings $N$, this contribution is so significant that it could violate observational constraints when the ratio of kinetic energy between the vector fields and the inflaton $I$ is not extremely small. In this paper, we explore a regime where $I\gg 1$. This regime has not been extensively explored due to the limitations of perturbative methods. We found that the entropy perturbation becomes heavy in this regime and the cumulative effect decays away on super-horizon scales. Consequently, the power spectrum retains its scale invariance in the decoupling limit. By straightforwardly integrating out the heavy modes near horizon-crossing, we derive a low-energy effective field theory describing a massless adiabatic perturbation with an imaginary speed of sound $c_s^2= -1/3$. Namely, the inflation with vector fields presents a potential mechanism for generating primordial black holes.

Comparing Analytic and Numerical Studies of Tensor Perturbations in Loop Quantum Cosmology

Abstract:We investigate the implications of different quantization approaches in Loop Quantum Cosmology for the primordial power spectrum of tensor modes. Specifically, we consider the hybrid and dressed metric approaches to derive the effective mass that governs the evolution of the tensor modes. Our study comprehensively examines the two resulting effective masses and how to estimate them in order to obtain approximated analytic solutions to the tensor perturbation equations. Since Loop Quantum Cosmology incorporates preinflationary effects in the dynamics of the perturbations, we do not have at our disposal a standard choice of privileged vacuum, like the Bunch--Davies state in quasi-de Sitter inflation. We then select the vacuum state by a recently proposed criterion which removes unwanted oscillations in the power spectrum and guarantees an asymptotic diagonalization of the Hamiltonian in the ultraviolet. This vacuum is usually called the NO-AHD (from the initials of Non-Oscillating with Asymptotic Hamiltonian Diagonalization) vacuum. Consequently, we compute the power spectrum by using our analytic approximations and by introducing a suitable numerical procedure, adopting in both cases an NO-AHD vacuum. With this information, we compare the different spectra obtained from the hybrid and the dressed metric approaches, as well as from the analytic and numerical procedures. In particular, this proves the remarkable accuracy of our~approximations.

Abstract:The primordial power spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations during slow-roll inflation are usually calculated with the method of Bessel function approximation. For constant-roll or ultra slow-roll inflation, the method of Bessel function approximation may be invalid. We compare the numerical results with the analytical results derived from the Bessel function approximation, and we find that they differ significantly on super-horizon scales if the constant slow-roll parameter $\eta_H$ is not small. More accurate method is needed for calculating the primordial power spectrum for constant-roll inflation.

Study of Nonlinear Evolution of Spacetime Fluctuations in Quantum Gravity Inflation for Deriving Primordial Spectrum

Abstract:We study the evolution of quantum fluctuations of gravity around an inflationary solution in renormalizable quantum gravity, in which the initial scalar-fluctuation dominance is shown by the background-free nature expressed by a special conformal invariance. Inflation ignites at the Planck scale and continues until spacetime phase transition occurs at a dynamical scale about $10^{17}$GeV. We can show that during inflation, the initially large scale-invariant fluctuations reduce in amplitude to the appropriate magnitude suggested by tiny CMB anisotropies. The goal of this research is to derive the spectra of scalar fluctuations at the phase transition point, that is, the primordial spectra. A system of nonlinear evolution equations for the fluctuations is derived from the quantum gravity effective action. The running coupling constant is then expressed by a time-dependent average following the spirit of the mean field approximation. In this paper, we determine and examine various nonlinear terms, not treated in previous studies such as the exponential factor of the conformal mode. These contributions occur during the early stage of inflation when the amplitude is still large. Moreover, in order to verify their effects concretely, we numerically solve the evolution equation by making a simplification to extract the most contributing parts of the terms in comoving momentum space. The result indicates that they serve to maintain the initial scale invariance over a wide range beyond the comoving Planck scale. This is a challenge toward the derivation of the precise primordial spectra, and we expect in the future that it will lead to the resolution of the tensions that have arisen in cosmology.

One-loop power spectrum in ultra slow-roll inflation and implications for primordial black hole dark matter

Abstract:We apply the in-in formalism to address the question of whether the size of the one-loop spectrum of curvature fluctuations in ultra-slow-roll inflation models designed for producing a large population of primordial black holes implies a breakdown of perturbation theory. We consider a simplified piece-wise description of inflation, in which the ultra-slow-roll phase is preceded and followed by slow-roll phases linked by transitional periods. We work in the $\delta\phi$-gauge, including all relevant cubic and quartic interactions and the necessary counterterms to renormalize the ultraviolet divergences, regularized by a cutoff. The ratio of the one-loop to the tree-level contributions to the spectrum of curvature perturbations is controlled by the duration of the ultra-slow-roll phase and of the transitions. Our results indicate that perturbation theory does not necessarily break in well-known models proposed to account for all the dark matter in the form of primordial black holes.

Inflation Based on the Tsallis Entropy

Abstract:We study the inflationary scenario in the Tsallis entropy-based cosmology. The Friedmann equations in this setup can be derived by using the first law of thermodynamics. To derive the relations of the power spectra of the scalar and tensor perturbations in this setup, we reconstruct an $f(R)$ gravity model which is thermodynamically equivalent to our model in the slow-roll approximation. In this way, we find the inflationary observables, including the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio in our scenario. Then, we investigate two different potentials in our scenario, including the quadratic potential and the potential associated with the natural inflation in which the inflaton is an axion or a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson. We examine their observational viability in light of the Planck 2018 CMB data. We show that although the results of these potentials are in tension with the observations in the standard inflationary setting, their consistency with the observations can be significantly improved within the setup of the Tsallis entropy-based inflation. Moreover, we place constraints on the parameters of the considered inflationary models by using the current observational data.
