Abstract: We study various configurations in which a domain wall (or cosmic string), described by the Nambu-Goto action, is embedded in a background space-time of a black hole in $(3+1)$ and higher dimensional models. We calculate energy fluxes through the black hole horizon. In the simplest case, when a static domain wall enters the horizon of a static black hole perperdicularly, the energy flux is zero. In more complicated situations, where parameters which describe the domain wall surface are time and position dependent, the flux is non-vanishing is principle. These results are of importance in various conventional cosmological models which accommodate the existence of domain walls and strings and also in brane world scenarios.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore and verify the applicability of the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture in specific supersymmetric gauge theories. Specifically, the author examines the validity and limitations of the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture by studying the combination of Sp(N) theory and antisymmetric tensors. ### Main problems 1. **The scope of application of the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture**: - Dijkgraaf and Vafa proposed a powerful method for calculating the exact effective superpotential of a large class of N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories. However, the scope of application of this conjecture is not yet clear. The author attempts to explore this problem through specific examples. 2. **Challenges of Sp(N) theory and antisymmetric tensors**: - Sp(N) theory and antisymmetric tensors are among the theories for which the exact superpotential can be obtained by traditional techniques. The author finds that for this theory, the superpotential predicted by the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture differs from the results obtained by traditional methods in some cases. Specifically, for Sp(4), Sp(6), and Sp(8), the results of matrix model perturbation theory are consistent with the traditional method up to the N/2 order, but differences appear at higher orders. 3. **The physical origin of the geometry/gauge theory duality**: - In order to understand the physical reasons for the above differences, the author realizes these gauge theories through string theory, especially by studying geometric transitions through Calabi - Yau compactification. The author proposes a prescription for when to introduce the glueball field and shows how to resolve the differences observed in Sp(N) theory through this prescription. ### Specific content - **Chapter 2**: The author applies the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture to Sp(N) theory and antisymmetric tensors and calculates the effective glueball superpotential based on the diagrammatic method. The results show that for Sp(4), Sp(6), and Sp(8), the results of the two methods are consistent up to the N/2 order, but differences appear after that. - **Chapter 3**: The generalized Konishi anomaly method is applied to various two - index tensor and fundamental representation theories of classical gauge groups, including Sp(N) theory and antisymmetric tensors. The results show that the generalized Konishi anomaly method also finds the same differences as the matrix model method. - **Chapter 4**: U(N), SO(N), and Sp(N) gauge theories with various two - index tensor matter fields and additional tree - level superpotentials are studied through string theory realization (geometric engineering). The author proposes a prescription for when to introduce the glueball field, which explains the differences observed in Sp(N) theory. - **Chapter 5**: The above results are generalized to theories containing flavors, a prescription for when to introduce the glueball field is given, and it is shown that matrix model calculations correctly reproduce the gauge theory results. ### Conclusion Through these studies, the author not only verifies the validity of the Dijkgraaf - Vafa conjecture in specific theories but also reveals the limitations of its scope of application and provides improved methods. This provides important references and guidance for future research.
