Abstract: We study the number of solutions of the asymptotic Plateau problem in H^3. By using the analytical results in our previous paper, and some topological arguments, we show that there exists an open dense subset of C^3 Jordan curves in S^2_{infty}(H^3) such that any curve in this set bounds a unique least area plane in H^3.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the uniqueness of solutions to the asymptotic Plateau problem in hyperbolic space \(H^3\). Specifically, the author studied the number of least - area planes in \(H^3\) and, through analytical and topological methods, proved that there exists an open and dense subset of the \(C^3\) Jordan curve family such that each curve uniquely bounds a least - area plane. ### Main Problem Description 1. **Asymptotic Plateau Problem**: Given a Jordan curve \(\Gamma\) in \(S^2_{\infty}(H^3)\), find the least - area plane in \(H^3\) with \(\Gamma\) as its asymptotic boundary. 2. **Uniqueness of Solutions**: For most \(C^3\) Jordan curves \(\Gamma\), can we find a unique least - area plane \(\Sigma\) such that \(\partial_{\infty}\Sigma=\Gamma\)? ### Main Contributions of the Paper - **General Uniqueness Result**: The author proved that there exists an open and dense subset \(A'\) of \(C^3\) Jordan curves in \(S^2_{\infty}(H^3)\) such that for any \(\Gamma\in A'\), there exists a unique least - area plane \(\Sigma\) satisfying \(\partial_{\infty}\Sigma = \Gamma\). ### Method Overview 1. **Boundary Restriction Mapping**: Define the mapping \(\pi\) from minimal graphs to their boundary parameterizations and prove that it is a Fredholm operator with index 0. 2. **Application of the Inverse Function Theorem**: Use the inverse function theorem to find neighborhoods of local homeomorphisms, thereby constructing a foliation consisting of least - area planes. 3. **Uniqueness Proof**: By contradiction, assume that there are multiple least - area planes. Then these planes will intersect somewhere, which contradicts the maximum principle for minimal surfaces. ### Conclusion The paper proved that for most \(C^3\) Jordan curves in \(S^2_{\infty}(H^3)\), there exists a unique least - area plane. This result provides important theoretical support for understanding the properties of minimal surfaces in hyperbolic space. ### Related Formulas - **Fredholm Operator**: Let \(D\pi(\Sigma):T_\Sigma M\rightarrow T_\Gamma A\) be a Fredholm operator with index 0: \[ \text{index}(D\pi)=\dim(\ker(D\pi))-\text{codim}(\text{Im}(D\pi)) = 0 \] - **Maximum Principle for Minimal Surfaces**: If two minimal surfaces intersect at a point and are locally on the same side, then they must completely coincide. Through these methods and conclusions, the author successfully solved the uniqueness problem of the asymptotic Plateau problem in hyperbolic space.
