Abstract:We investigate the phase structure and the equation of state (EoS) for dense two-color QCD (QC 2 D) at low temperature ( T = 40 MeV, 32 4 lattice) for the purpose of extending our previous works [1, 2] at T = 80 MeV (16 4 lattice). Indeed, a rich phase structure below the pseudo-critical temperature T c as a function of quark chemical potential μ has been revealed, but finite volume effects in a high-density regime sometimes cause a wrong understanding. Therefore, it is important to investigate the temperature dependence down to zero temperature with large-volume simulations. By performing 32 4 simulations, we obtain essentially similar results to the previous ones, but we are now allowed to get a fine understanding of the phase structure via the temperature dependence. Most importantly, we find that the hadronic-matter phase, which is composed of thermally excited hadrons, shrinks with decreasing temperature and that the diquark condensate scales as ⟨ qq ⟩ ∝ μ 2 in the BCS phase, a property missing at T = 80 MeV. From careful analyses, furthermore, we confirm a tentative conclusion that the topological susceptibility is independent of μ . We also show the temperature dependence of the pressure, internal energy, and sound velocity as a function of μ . The pressure increases around the hadronic-superfluid phase transition more rapidly at the lower temperature, while the temperature dependence of the sound velocity is invisible. Breaking of the conformal bound is also confirmed thanks to the smaller statistical error.

Abstract:Using quasiparticle models and imposing thermodynamic consistency, lattice data for the equation of state of deconfined QCD can be mapped to finite chemical potential. We consider a refinement of existing simple massive quasiparticle models using the nonlocal hard-thermal-loop propagators, and certain next-to-leading-order corrections thereof, to obtain the thermodynamic potential as a function of temperature and chemical potential. At small chemical potential we find that the results for the slope of constant pressure from our main model for two massless quark flavors is in good agreement with recent lattice data for 2+1 flavors while it deviates somewhat from lattice data for two flavors from another group. For zero temperature, we obtain an estimate for the critical chemical potential which is close to that obtained from simpler quasiparticle models.

Finite-temperature critical point of heavy-quark QCD on large lattices

Abstract:We study the finite-temperature critical point of QCD in the heavy-quark region by a scaling study of the Binder cumulant on large lattices. Extending our previous study at $N_t=4$, we perform simulations on $N_t=6$ and 8 lattices with spatial volumes up to the aspect ratio $LT=N_s/N_t=18$ and 15 ($N_s=108$ and 120), respectively, to determine the critical point in the thermodynamic limit with a high precision. To enable simulations with large spatial volumes, we adopt the hopping parameter expansion combined with a method to effectively incorporate high order terms of the expansion. The reliability of the method is confirmed by examining the effect of high order terms. Using the results of the critical point at $N_t=4$, 6, and 8, we also attempt a preliminary continuum extrapolation of the critical point in physical units.

Lattice QCD study of color correlations between static quarks with gluonic excitations

Abstract:We study the color correlation between static quark and antiquark ($q\bar q$) that is accompanied by gluonic excitations in the confined phase at $T=0$ by constructing reduced density matrices $\rho$ in color space. We perform quenched lattice QCD calculations with the Coulomb gauge adopting the standard Wilson gauge action, and the spatial volume is $L^3 = 32^3$ at $\beta = 5.8$, which corresponds to the lattice spacing $a=0.14$ fm and the system volume $L^3=4.5^3$ fm$^3$. We evaluate the color density matrix $\rho$ of static $q\bar q$ pairs in 6 channels (${\Sigma_g^+}$, ${{\Sigma_g^+}'}$, ${\Pi_u}$, ${\Pi_u'}$, ${\Delta_g}$, ${\Delta_g'}$), and investigate the interquark-distance dependence of color correlations. We find that as the interquark distance increases, the color correlation quenches because of color leak into the gluon field and finally approaches the random color configuration in the $q\bar q$ systems with and without gluonic excitations. For this color screening effect, we evaluate the "screening mass" to discuss its dependence on channels, the quantum number of the gluonic excitations.

Heavy quark potential from a deformed $AdS_5$ model

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the heavy quark potential at finite temperature in a deformed AdS background. This calculation relies on a modified renormalization procedure mentioned in a previous work of Albacete et al. It is shown that the obtained potential is negative definite for all quark-antiquark separations, going to zero at an infinite distance. This result is different from that using the usual renormalization procedure.
The Interaction of Moving $\mathbf{Q\bar{Q}}$ and QQq in the Thermal Plasma

Abstract:The strength of the force between heavy quarks is studied for heavy quarkonium ($\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$) and doubly heavy baryons ($\mathrm{QQq}$) at finite temperature and rapidity using the gauge/gravity duality in this paper. The strength of the interaction is defined as an effective running coupling $\alpha$ from lattice. By considering the $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$ and $\mathrm{QQq}$ moving through the thermal quark-gluon plasma, we find that the interaction of heavy quarks for $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$ is small and remains almost constant when $L<0.2\,\mathrm{fm}$. The strength of the interaction for $\mathrm{QQq}$ is always less than that for $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$ and approaches a constant when $L<0.4\,\mathrm{fm}$. The $\alpha$ and the maximum of effective running coupling $\tilde{\alpha}$ for both $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$ and $\mathrm{QQq}$ decrease with increasing temperature or rapidity. Through comparison, we find that $\mathrm{QQq}$ is more sensitive to changes in temperature and rapidity, and the interaction force between quarks is always less than that of $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$, indicating that $\mathrm{Q\bar{Q}}$ is more stable than $\mathrm{QQq}$ in the presence of temperature and rapidity.

In-medium static inter-quark potential on high resolution quenched lattices

Abstract:We re-investigate the interactions between static color sources in a finite temperature gluonic medium using both high resolution isotropic and anisotropic quenched lattice QCD ensembles. The underlying ill-posed inverse problem, related to the extraction of spectral functions, is attacked with a range of different methods, including Bayesian inference, Padé interpolation and model fits. Among the latter we include a tail amended Gaussian ansatz and a HTL-inspired fit ansatz. We reconfirm the presence of a dominant low-lying spectral feature that supports the existence of a potential picture for the in-medium evolution of the static charges at late real times. Using the raw unmodified lattice data, all applicable methods show clear signs of screening of the real-part of the potential. After applying a subtraction procedure featured in a previous study we find however that screening disappears from the extracted potential. Paths towards the resolution of this puzzle are discussed.

Abstract:We describe two-flavor QCD lattice data for the pressure at a nonzero temperature and vanishing chemical potential within a quasiparticle model. Relying only on thermodynamic consistency, the model is extended to nonzero chemical potential. The results agree with lattice calculations in the region of a small chemical potential.

Abstract:We analyze the color-magnetic (or " B ") field two-point function that encodes the finite-mass correction to the heavy-quark momentum-diffusion coefficient. The simulations are done on fine isotropic lattices in the quenched approximation at 1.5Tc , using a range of gradient flow times for noise suppression and operator renormalization. The continuum extrapolation is performed at fixed flow time followed by a second extrapolation to zero flow time. Perturbative calculations to next-to-leading order of this correlation function, matching gradient-flowed correlators to MS ̄ , are used to resolve nontrivial renormalization issues. We perform a spectral reconstruction based on perturbative model fits to estimate the coefficient κB of the finite-mass correction to the heavy-quark momentum-diffusion coefficient. Critical point in heavy-quark region of QCD on fine lattices

Abstract:We perform a finite-size scaling analysis of the critical point in the heavy-quark region of QCD at nonzero temperature. Our previous analysis on the Binder cumulant at $N_t=4$ is extended to finer lattices with $N_t=6$ and $8$. The aspect ratio is also extended up to $15$ to suppress the non-singular contribution. High-precision analysis of the Binder cumulant is realized by an efficient Monte-Carlo simulation with the hopping-parameter expansion (HPE). Effects of higher-order terms in the HPE are incorporated by the reweighting method.

Abstract:We study the extension of a phenomenologically successful quasiparticle model that describes lattice results of the equation of state of the deconfined phase of QCD for Tc⩽T≲4Tc, to finite quark chemical potential μ. The phase boundary line Tc(μ), the pressure difference Δp(T,μ)=[p(T,μ)−p(T,μ=0)]∕T4, and the quark number density nq(T,μ)∕T3 are calculated and compared to recent lattice results. Good agreement is found up to quark chemical potentials of order μ∼Tc.

Abstract:We discuss the renormalized free energy of a heavy quark anti-quark pair in the color singlet channel for quenched and full QCD at finite temperature. The temperature and mass dependence, as well as its short distance behavior is analyzed. Using the free energies we calculate the heavy quark potential and entropy in quenched QCD. The asymptotic large distance behavior of the free energy is used to define the non-perturbatively renormalized Polyakov loop which is well behaved in the continuum limit. String breaking is studied in the color singlet channel in 2-flavor QCD.

Abstract:We present the first study of the quark mass dependence of the heavy quark momentum and spatial diffusion coefficients using lattice QCD with light dynamical quarks corresponding to a pion mass of 320 MeV. We find that, for the temperature range 195 MeV $<T<$ 293 MeV, the spatial diffusion coefficients of the charm and bottom quarks are smaller than those obtained in phenomenological models that describe the $p_T$ spectra and elliptic flow of open heavy flavor hadrons.

Chemical potential dependence of the endpoint of first-order phase transition in heavy-quark region of finite-temperature lattice QCD

Abstract:We determine the location of the critical point where the first-order deconfining transition in the heavy-quark region turns into a crossover in finite-temperature and density lattice QCD with 2+1 flavors of Wilson quarks. Combining a hopping parameter expansion (HPE) of the quark determinant with a reweighting method, we evaluate the chemical potential dependence of the critical point. By systematically calculating the coefficients of the hopping parameter expansion up to a high order of HPE at finite chemical potential, we find that the higher order terms are strongly correlated with the Polyakov loop, which is the leading-order term, on each configuration. Moreover, their complex phases themselves, which are important at finite density, are also found to be strongly correlated with the complex phase of the Polyakov loop. Using this property, we develop a method for estimating the critical point incorporating high-order terms from calculations with only low-order terms. We report that the first-order phase transition region in the heavy-quark region becomes narrower exponentially with increasing the chemical potential. Since the hopping parameter of the critical point decreases exponentially as the density increases, the sign problem does not become serious even when the density increases, and critical points can be evaluated up to high densities.

Abstract:We consider propagation of heavy quarks in QCD matter. Because of large quark mass, the radiative quark energy loss appears to be qualitatively different from that of light quarks at all energies of practical importance. Finite quark mass effects lead to an in-medium enhancement of the heavy-to-light D/\pi ratio at moderately large (5--10 GeV) transverse momenta. For hot QCD matter a large enhancement is expected, whose magnitude and shape are exponentially sensitive to the density of colour charges in the medium.
